How Do You Improve on Success?

Nothing that is great ever started off that way but you can bet that at some point, it was improved.  Well, we've made a change in the digest and we're sure you'll find it even better to read now that we've done it.  Our Experts, through unanimous decision have chosen one of two distinct roles which they feel better describe them and their level of commitment and experience.

Some chose to stay on with the new Advisory Panel which is now tightly focused on the specific areas of E-Business such as Marketing, Promotion, Site Design, Affiliate Programs, and more (formerly known as the experts panel) and some decided they would migrate to the Power Members group for lighter discussion on a broader range of subjects.

I know you'll find the new idea easier to follow and enjoy.

How Super Affiliates Do It: Affiliate Success Checklist

According to emarketer.com, online sales are predicted to hit 26.2 billion between
Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2005. Thats over 8 billion dollars trading hands per month,
not including travel, finance or ticket sales. A fair chunk of that will be earned
through affiliates - who will be paid accordingly.

Heres the shocker. 98% of affiliates earn little or nothing.

  • According to AffTrack CEO Scott McNulty, 2 percent of affiliates make 98 percent of the commissions.

  • Wendy Salomon, Vice President of Account Management for LinkShare said about 20% of affiliates actually do any good business for a given company.

  • The Internet Affiliate Marketing Association estimates that fewer than 5 percent of Internet affiliates earn over $100 a month.

For the parent companies, when 2% of the affiliates are already making 98% of the sales, its simply not cost effective to hand hold the 98% that are only earning 2% of the revenue.

So, its up to you to learn what works.

Checklist for Success;

The following seven strategies are used by the majority of super affiliates. How many of
them do you use? Check the strategies you use to see where you could improve your
affiliate strategy.

  1. Super Affiliates choose their market first, their products second.

Whether you choose to sell dog products, kids products, or health products doesn't matter. What matters is that you choose your market first, and your products second, based on your chosen market. Otherwise, you risk ending up looking like an online flea market. When choosing product, make sure they pay a viable commission, too. It's pretty hard to make a substantial income if you only earn pennies per referral.

  2. Super Affiliates know their market

Many affiliates fail because they don't know anything about their market. For example, if you sell internet marketing products, but you've never sold anything online, can you really compete with people that have and do? Maybe you should sell something else first to learn how its done?

  3. Super Affiliates have a website and domain name based on their market.

Content drives sales. You may be able to get away with just a blog, or at least start with one, but you need a web presence. An ad or an affiliate link just doesn't say youre serious about building a business and making sales online. Hobby effort equals hobby results. Fun, but no money.

  4. Super Affiliates mask or cloak affiliate links on their website.
Its estimated that 80% of unmasked links will be stripped of your affiliate id and you'll never get the sale. Unmasked links are great branding for the parent company, but don't do much to help you make sales.

  5. Super Affiliates build a mailing list or other conversion system.
Almost no one buys the first time they see a product. A mailing list is the easiest way to achieve repeat contact. If you don't want a mailing list, you need some other method of achieving repeat contact with your visitors or you'll have nothing but hit and run traffic and little or no sales.

  6. Super Affiliates write and distribute articles and product reviews

The number one reason that super affiliates sell as much as they do is that they are credible in their industry. Writing articles and reviews can offer that credibility. Of course, if you offer the thumbs up to lousy products in your reviews, you'll lose any credibility just as fast.

  7. Super Affiliates promote and strive to become known in their chosen market.

You don't make any money being invisible. Super affiliates spend 75% of their time promoting and marketing their websites they don't do it by cramming affiliate links down peoples throats. They promote their content, personality and expertise in their chosen market.

As retailers rake in millions a day over the remainder of 2005, will you be earning a substantial income or will you be left wondering why affiliate programs don't work for you?

Copyright and Your Website!

First off let me make it clear that this information should not be construed as legal advice in any way what so ever. I am not a Lawyer nor do I claim to be providing any legal advice.

The purpose of this article is strictly to act as a guideline in regards to websites and copyrights.

First: Everything is Copyrighted!

This is the safest assumption to make. The moment anything is placed into a reproducible form, it becomes copyrighted information under the law. A website is considered a reproducible form. It would take scads of money to launch a lawsuit but in the end is it worth the risk?

Did you know when you go to a website and see a copyright notice posted on the page that it is not legally required to be there in order to show copyright. View it strictly as a courtesy. There are also acceptable ways to list a copyright notice, so if you want to place a copyright notice, DO IT RIGHT! The proper format for a copyright is a C within a circle , a C within parenthesis will not cut it. You should also include the word Copyright along with the year the website was created. Seeing as you are going this far, also include the term All Rights Reserved. This can afford some extra protection in the International Markets where they may not adhere to the Berne Convention.

Graphics and photographs are a couple of the greatest sources of copyright infringement. Many people think that just because they took a photograph that they automatically can use it as they see fit. Where this becomes a real big problem is with a celebrity or person of some notoriety. Just try to use a picture that you took of a Hollywood celebrity, especially if you use it to try to promote a product. Once there is a perception of profit, then there is a perception of endorsement.

If you hire a photographer to take a photo the photographer owns the copyright to the photograph, unless you get it in writing that they release all copyright to you. You cannot take a photograph you paid to have taken and just use it commercially without a release.

If you take the picture yourself, you own the copyright to it and have certain legal rights:
You may sell the photo.
You may produce them on a website.
Unless, you are using them to commercially, promote or endorse a product or service where normally, the subject of the photograph would be paid for such an endorsement. This holds true for any photo, it does not have to be a celebrity; it can be a photo of any person on the street. Have you ever seen them shooting a movie? They stop pedestrian and vehicle traffic when shooting on location so that they do not have pay the people walking or driving by for an appearance in the movie. That is why they hire extras.

Do you know the one thing that celebrities have lots of; Lawyers, lots and lots of them. Always play it safe Dont Feed the Lawyers.

Website graphics are also a big problem. People see a graphic and they like it so they just use it. You might have paid to have a custom designed website made and then one day you see a website that looks the same as yours. I have seen this happen on more than one occasion. The whole website was copied and put up on another domain. So, what can you do about it, the person that stole it knows you will not come after them with a Lawyer, the cost is just to high. The best you can hope for is to contact the hosting company and explain the copyright infringement in a clear articulate voice, and hope that they will see this, and remove the site. Dont hold your breath waiting, as they are making an income form hosting it. However, sending a registered letter might make then take more notice as you can now show a Lawyer your request, as it was made to them and the hosting company knows this. Never rely on e-mail for this, as there is always a chance that they might not get the e-mail.

In regards to graphics, there is another issue of interest, when you just link to a graphic on another website and load the image on your website another type of theft is happening. Bandwidth theft, you are using the resources of the other host and website to load items on your website. You didnt steal the graphic or picture, you just hot linked to it. This is still theft and can actually have the other web site owner facing higher bandwidth charges, until they realize what is going on.

There are many things one needs to consider in regards to copyright and the legal speak around it, can be so confusing. We are dealing with intellectual property laws as well as fair use policies. There are times when we might confuse copyright law with trademark law, another area that you really want to avoid if possible.

If you have a website and you ever feel that your rights have been violated, check with an Intellectual Property Lawyer. If you are looking at creating a website, always use the golden rule, when in doubt, get written permission to use, copy or modify copyrighted works Always assume everything is copyrighted.

You can get more information on copyright law at http://www.copyright.gov/

Copyright has become a huge problem on the Internet and has brought about the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Even the major search engines are playing along with this one. You can see Googles stance on this by going to http://www.google.com/dmca.html.

Now you might think, How can I get caught? There is just way to many websites for that to happen, there is no way that the persons article or content I stole and used as my own can find out. I mean they cannot surf every website out there. Can they?

They do not have to; there is a wonderful website that does that for them. Smart people will use something in their copy so that even if you change enough of the copy to make it look or sound different, you will want to leave this one particular sentence or paragraph in tact, then all they need to do is use http://www.copyscape.com. This is just one tool available to them.
The result is you are BUSTED!

One final note of interest, I have seen people talk about and use other company names in their META TAGS. They think this will somehow help to elevate a website in the search engines under the same terms as some of the larger competition. You might find the following to be of interest: http://searchenginewatch.com/resources/article.php/2156551

Always play it safe and use original content on your website or hire a professional that considers all of these issues and more as they develop your web site.

Blogs Blogs Everywhere There Are Blogs!

What is a Blog? Definition: A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts, ideas, business matters etc. and Web links.

A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in a person's life, their business, and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people.

People maintained blogs long before the term was coined, but the trend gained momentum with the introduction of automated published systems, most notably Blogger at blogger.com. Thousands of people use services such as Blogger to simplify and accelerate the publishing process.
_______________________________________________

You cannot afford to close your eyes to Blogs, because they're simply the most explosive outbreak in the information world since the Internet itself. And they're going to shake up just about every business on the Internet, including yours. It doesnt matter WHAT you are offering, blogs are a phenomenon that you cannot ignore, postpone, or delegate. Given the changes barreling down upon us, blogs are not a business elective. They're a prerequisite. (And yes, that goes for me, too.)

There's a little problem, though. Many of you don't visit blogs -- or haven't since blogs became a sensation in last year's Presidential race. According to the Pew Research Center Survey, only 27% of Internet users in America now bother to read them.

Since there are over 900,000,000 users on the Internet, this means that: your Blog has the limited potential of being visited by only TWO HUNDRED MILLION USERS! Ahh well you cant have everything!

In case you havent entered the World Of Blog yet, let me take you into the world of blogs by delivering this story. There are approximately 9 Million existing Blogs, and over 30,000 new ones popping up each day. Some discuss poetry, others constitutional law. And, yes, many are plain silly.

But even assuming that 99.9% are off point. So what? That leaves some 30 new ones every day that could be talking about your business, and giving you the latest and the best on the web.

Even if you have NEVER been known before, Blogging your ideas, your unique story or perspective announces you to the networking world, the buying public, and your fellow entrepreneurs!

Admittedly, most Blogs are painfully primitive. That's not the point. They represent power. Look at it this way: In the age of mass media, publications print the news. Sources try to get quoted, but the decision is that of the publication.

The same is true with letters to the editor. Now instead of just speaking through publications, people who want to be heard can blog. And if they master the ins and outs of this new art -- like how to get other bloggers to link to them -- they have the potential to reach a HUGE audience.

This is just the beginning. Many of the same folks who developed blogs are busy adding features so that bloggers can start up music and video channels and team up on editorial projects. The divide between the publishers and the public may simply collapse turning the mass media upside down. In essence, it is creating The Media of the Masses.

How does business change when everyone is a potential publisher? Whoa, talk about change, and the laws pertaining to or covering fairness, advertising, and libel? They may not exist anymore! A shift in power unlike anything weve seen in decades may be occurring! Think about it.

Will companies and publishers get back the power theyve lost? Not entirely. Not when bloggers now realize that THEY can:

  1. Blog For Bucks by selling advertising
  2. Do a book review. Existing affiliate programs will allow you to do a review and link to Amazon and when someone uses that link to buy, YOU get paid.
  3. Use Adsense it is FREE
  4. Market your own wares and save the cost of a website.

In blogging, there is no limit except the one you set for yourself. Did I mention that many Blogs are FREE and with sound? Will wonders never cease?

The Science of Advertising

It's all about getting visitors to your site, customers through your door, and everyone remembering who you and your business are.  Class is in.  I'm your teacher Mr. Page.

Who Do You Want?

This article is based on the idea that advertising is the most important business task you will engage in and that it is the number one reason people fail on-line.

We've all heard the adage of testing your ad copy and then repeat the process over and over again... ...until you find that ad that really works well.

It's true... testing is key, but the question is when on a limited ad budget, how do you test your ads without going broke or spending your children's inheritance? We will ponder a solution to developing those powerful ads and while you're testing, do it for FREE!

Sound good enough for you?

Okay, before we start, we must agree there are three parts to an effective ad campaign that includes:

- The Headline or Eye Catcher
- The Assurance Message
- The Incentive

This article will take you step-by-step in developing and testing your ad headline copy, assurance message and incentive techniques to achieve results of 30% or more (we average 60-70% positive response).

... and the best part, it will cost you nothing to:

- test unlimited eye catcher headlines...
- test your assurance message...
- monitor the ad results...

There are three equally important factors when developing an effective ad campaign.

There is more to your advertising than posting an ad, or a great headline that pulls traffic. You must see your efforts as working a campaign and that campaign is to cultivate as many people from a resource to grow your own audience or downline of interested prospects.

The example used in this discussion is a web service where you can post unlimited ads that consist of an eye-catching headline and a solo webpage that showcases your sales (assurance) message and a link to your website. A person would click on your eye-catching headline then read your sales message. If you've done your job well, they will click the provided link to visit your website.

You are able to post your ad using credits that they give you in exchange for you visiting other posters' website as in the above example.

Since success on this type of ad board is really based on who's using the best eye-catching headline, it is critical to develop a powerful headline that WORKS for a specific audience at a specific TIME!

WARNING... The point above, a specific audience, proves that what might work on one service or at a given hour may not produce the same results elsewhere. Each resource will offer unique differences to cultivate.

So to develop powerful pulling headlines, you must take the time to study and identify patterns within a specific resource which is the act of watching what their audience is doing (the ad posters). You have to identify these critical patterns when developing a Powerful Headline to increase your success.

How To Identify Opportunities...

The first thing to do is map out the patterns within a given service that are time sensitive. There are two patterns that will emerge from any online ad posting service and are grouped in cycles of days and hours. When an ad is posted you will notice a date and time stamp when the ad was posted and the name of the person posting the ad.

When I map out a service I group a day into blocks of three hours. That divides each day into eight blocks (3 hrs each).

I've found three hour blocks are best as it narrows my focus down to a smaller period of time to study for any patterns within that small block of time. Patterns can vary greatly from hour to hour and there is a pattern to be mapped (identified).

I then start watching for those blocks of time that receive the most posts (more activity) and make a note of those blocks that are most active. In other words, I can tell when a large number of members are logged into that service and posting their ads/messages by looking at the times that the ads are posted.

Now that I have identified when a large group of people are online posting their ads and, get this, READING (checking) their new ad posted, would SEE my ad if I posted it at that time also.

So I post my ads when a large number of people are posting their ads, and believe me, you'll find people, like myself, who have a schedule wherein each day within a few minutes, will post their ads like clock work.

This group of people is the group you want to capture the attention of and you'll find your downline growing by the tens of hundreds at a time.

But WAIT!

Identifying blocks of time to post your message is ONLY one step of three steps you need to take to increase your success 30% or more. I realize an average 60-70%% success when applying the three steps in this strategy.

BUT... let's make certain we understand that it took me time, a lot of time, to test, test and test and sometimes starting over. Many people may think that is a lot of wasted time but I know settling for less than a 30% success rate is a waste of effort.

I see claims from advertising agencies who are bold enough to tell you that with only 1 or 2% success you could be very successful and making millions of dollars. WHAT! They must think people are foolish to believe that 1 or 2% success can be considered anything other than TOTAL FAILURE! I can imagine trying to run that by a school teacher that getting 1 or 2% of the test questions correct was a passing grade!

Okay... back to the point of discussion.

Once you have identified a block of time when a lot of members are posting their ads, you will start placing your ads also so your eye-catching headline is read by other posters (members are the ones that are online and using the service).

So you have identified the best time to post and start testing your ad, but now let me ask you a question.

Who will be reading your ad posts?
Other members who are posting their ads, yes, that's correct.

Members of what?
An advertising service. Hummm,
Place your nose ((( H E R E ))) to smell the aroma of opportunities!

To identify the opportunities afforded you, you must answer the following two questions to draft what the purpose of your ad will be.

First...Identify the one main interest that is shared among all those members who are posting their ad?

Second...What do they have to offer you besides the product or service they are promoting in their ad?

<B>For the fun of it, let start a little interaction here.

I will continue with the "rest of the page" when a few comments have come in.... hey, why not invite your friends to stop by and check out the thoughts and be a part of building a source of useful information and applications for greater success.

Have a great day!
