The Marshmallow Study
In the 60's, Stanford University psychology researcher Michael Mischel wanted to
demonstrate how important self-discipline is.
A group of 4 year old children were seated at tables. In front of each child was
placed one jumbo, soft fluffy marshmallow. (a treat back then)
The kids were told that they can eat the marshmallow right away if they want...
but if they can wait 20 minutes, they can have two marshmallows.
- About 1/3 gobbled the marshmallow right away.
- Another 1/3 waited a bit, but couldn't last the full time.
- Roughly 1/3 of the kids lasted 20 minutes and got two.
Those kids were tracked for 20 years. As adults;
... the third that had waited the 20 minutes had more successful marriages,
higher incomes, greater career satisfaction, better health, and more fulfilling
lives than the other 2/3.
... the 1/3 that gobbled the marshmallow immediately were more troubled,
stubborn and indecisive, mistrustful, less self-confident, and still could not
put off gratification. They had trouble controlling immediate impulses to
achieve long-range goals, resulting in unsucessful marriages, low job
satisfaction & income, bad health and frustrating lives.
Incredible.
Are we "programmed" that young?
Is self discipline inherited or taught?
Can we develop self discipline if we lack it? How?
If so, why don't we learn it? (ie; the other 2/3)
Come see what I do;

How do
blogs help websites?
I was just asked, "How do blogs
help websites?"
I start by saying when you do a blog you are becoming a writer.
Blogs are popular because people keep adding to them fresh content and search
engines love fresh content.
So, how does this help your website? If you write an article for a particular
item or service from your site and pick relevant keywords in your article that
relate to your site you can 'hyperlink' the keywords to point to that part of
your site.
An example:
"Lately, I have noticed that certain styles of living tend to drift to a certain
blogging service over another.
Teens and young adults have built a 'blog culture' around one service that has
drawn major musical artists and groups in, keeping their music popularity with
this culture.
On the other side we have the business blogs drawing in more creative
business-minded people to use blogs to market and profit.
Blah blah blah ...
You get the picture.
Now just don't have all keywords pointing to you. Get where you have some high
traffic sites in your linked keywords as well, complimenting but not competing
with your products or services.
You want your name floating around with the big boys and getting popular. Don't
you?
The most important thing about blogging - be natural. Write like you talk.
People go to blogs for information. Not to read a sales pitch.
Where possible, write about a true life experience of your product or service.
Give quotes of people and their views if you can.
The more natural you sound the more enjoyable for the reader to read.
Your blog is a part of your personality. People are curious of other people. So,
the way you say things will impact your credibility.
Best thing here is - be honest. Don't be afraid to put a little negative in if
it's the truth. Don't write five paragraphs of bad to make a point. Short and
simple and then move on.
You also want the sound of happiness that this is a part of you. Your business
and your blog. Be grateful and show it.
There you go. If you have questions feel free to message me here at AdlandPro
anytime.

How to
Write Killer Marketing Copy
By Scott F. Geld
Written words are a powerful marketing tool. They have the
ability to
persuade, reason, explain & direct the reader to take
action. They can hold
someone's imagination and open them up to possibilities
never before
visualized. But used improperly or without due care &
attention they can
destroy all the good work you have done in one foul swoop.
Developing copy for your website is therefore a job that
should not be taken
on lightly. Here are 5 keys to help hold your readers'
attention and convert
them to sales and sign-ups on your site -
-
Your Headliner - It takes a
matter of seconds for visitors to form an
opinion of your site. Many factors will come into play, such as speed of
download, graphics etc, so you'll need to grab their attention quickly
before they click off the site. A few words that stand out from the
background, graphics and the rest of your text will draw the readers' eye -
this is your chance to make an impact and keep them on the site. It should
be something that compels the reader to want to find out more.
-
Develop Interest - Identify
with the reader and let them know that you
understand how they feel about the challenges they face. Hint that you have
a solution to their problem. This will hook your visitor in, and you can
enhance its effect by using keywords and hot buttons to fire the reader's'
desire to find out more.
-
Reveal the details - Show the
reader your solution and how it will solve
their problems and/or meet their goals. Then hit them with additional
benefits as to how what you have to offer will exceed their expectations.
Use testimonials that verify the strength of the product or service you are
offering. Again use keywords and hot buttons that appeal to the readers'
emotions, and remember people buy on emotion not logic.
-
Call to Action - No marketing
copy is complete without a strong call to
action. It is the final push to close the sale that should be lined with
incentives. The benefits should be highlighted and the reader urged to take
action. You could even mention the consequences of not taking action - a
deal always looks better when someone is taking it back away from you!
-
Be Professional! - In the
eyes of the reader, the professionalism of your
copy reflects the professionalism of its owner, and the more professional it
is the more confident the reader is of you and your intentions. Make sure
you run copy through a grammar & spell checker before uploading it to your
site.
