Productivity Should Be Measurable

First off, a big Thank You goes out to Roger Bjornerud for sending me an email and letting me know that the movie, "Field of Dreams" which I mentioned in last week's Digest was not Mel Gibson but was in fact Kevin Costner.  Good eye, my friend.

I couldn't help but put this posting the Linda Caroll, our Internet Profit and Newbies Advisor had placed into her forum.  If you find yourself relating to the person in this article, it may be time to change your approach or re-focus your efforts.  Definitely gave ME something to think about.

Kenneth R Sword, CEO of Bizzyblogs.com brings us an insightful article about "Blog Blasters", what they are and why you shouldn't use them.  The only people making money with auto-submitters are people who create them and sell them.

Last but not least, Jeff Schuman of Team-Schuman.com brings us a complementing article titled "Don't Mistake Activity for Achievement".  He'll give you some tips on how to plan a productive day and stay focused.

Article: Are you going M.A.D.D?

I didn't write this article, but it was so funny that I wanted to share it with you. It was written by Andy Henry of http://www.moneyandmotivation.com/

After reading it, I realized that many people who are trying to make a profit online don't realize that they are affected by this "M.A.D.D." disorder. Heh. Read on...

=============================================
I was recently diagnosed with M.A.D.D
(Marketing Addiction Distraction Disorder)
by Andy Henry
=============================================

I was recently diagnosed with M.A.D.D - Marketing Addiction Distraction Disorder. This is how it manifests:

I decided to create a sales page. As I switched on my computer I noticed two drinking glasses. I decided to take the glasses into the kitchen.

The cats meowed for food. I put the glasses down and fed the cats. I put the cat food tin in the trash. Noticing the trash bag was now full I thought I'd take it out to the wheely bin. Since I was at it, I thought I'd empty the other waste paper baskets from around the house.

While in my bedroom I noticed my minidisk recorder. I knew I'd need the minidisk recorder that night so I picked it up.

The telephone then rang and I answered it. While I was on the telephone the doorbell rang. I put down the minidisk recorder and went to the door. At the door was someone collecting for charity. I went to find some change to give them.

While looking for change I found a memory stick that I'd been looking for. I remembered the telephone and went back and made my excuses and hung up. While sorting through the coins I'd found I put down the memory stick.

I gave some money to the charity collector.
I then remembered that I was turning on the PC.

When I got to the PC, it was at the Windows desktop. Microsoft Messenger was open in two windows. Two friends were asking me questions. After 15 minutes of typing I closed MSN. Out of habit, I then checked my emails. One of the emails was for a new product that I had to buy today or miss out on. After 15 minutes of reading the sales page I had a look around my favourite forums to see if anyone was recommending this program.

I saw several posts asking questions I had answers to. 30 minutes later I read a positive review of the product. I went and paid for it by PayPal. Once it was on my hard disk I opened the program and played with it for 45 minutes.

Then the telephone rang. It was a friend asking how I was. "Great!" I said, I'm busy doing things for my online business.
"It sounds like you're getting a lot done" said my friend. "That's right" I said.

Then I hung up the telephone and went to bed.

My Sales Page wasn't done.
I can't find my minidisk recorder.
My memory stick is missing.
The trash needs putting out.
The glasses need washing.
I haven't done anything to increase my income in this time.

BEING 'BUSY' IS FINE.
BEING 'PRODUCTIVE' IS BETTER!
REMEMBERING TO CHECK WHICH YOU'RE DOING = PRICELESS!

And while we're on the subject, I found another good article about "Time Termites" at a fellow Adlander's site.

The article was written by Anne Alexander, and I found it at [Adlander] Jon Schmedt's site. Incidentally, Jon's site is an article syndication and feed so if you need website content, or are a great writer, you might want to get to know Jon.

Jon's site is at:

Blogs and Blog Blasters Don't Mix ...

I wanted to bring forward the idea of blogs and blog blasters.

There are several programs that have been promoted over the past year to blast ads onto blogs. They all have done a great job ... at making blog writers mad. Many bloggers write with a passion and their content is can be very focused.

An example. You write an article on dyslexia: symptoms and cures. Fantastic article. You are set to recieve comments from the public on it and several people with the same interest do comment. Then comes along someone blasting an ad into your comment area reading: Make MILLIONS $elling Cell phone chargers!!! Within a week you can be on easy street amking HUGE amounts of cash with our new patented charger. Go to ......

You get the picture.

Not only does this NOT belong here but has nothing to do with 'commenting' on the person's article. It's rude and says alot about you, too.

Since the creation of these blasters it has provoked many bloogers to turn off commenting and/or block with filters what is coming in. There has also been added the opt in step to place comments on blogs and the security code needing entered to guarantee it's a human posting.

So, if you want to succeed in business and NOT have a 'black eye' to your name stay away from blasters.

Do they work? They used to but now are either blocked or continue to make bloggers mad.

Happy Blogging.

Don't Mistake Activity For Achievement
Written By Jeff Schuman 2004
http://www.Team-Schuman.com

I remember watching an NBA Basketball Game on t.v one
night. The Miami Heat were playing the New Orleans Hornets.
Miami was all over them yet when you looked at the score
New Orleans kept pulling ahead.

Bill Walton made the comment "Don't mistake activity for
achievement." I'll always remember that. Just because Miami
was playing hard didn't mean they were playing smart.

This can apply to our everyday lives and more directly to
our internet marketing careers. As we all work hard to make
money online and make money at home you should ask yourself
this question everyday, "Is what I'm doing right now going
to help me move my business forward?"

I am as guilty of this as anyone. I check my email over and
over clicking on the send/receive button looking for new
messages that say something like "Congratulations You Have
Made Another Sale."

It is so easy to constantly log into a program and check my
stats over and over. What's the point? If they do change it
isn't enough to even merit the time it takes to do it over
and over.

How about this one. Reading posts in forums until your eyes
are blurry. That's o.k if you are involved and making some
posts as well. You might as well get your link out there
and posting is a great way to learn something as well as do
that. But you have to post once in awhile too.

Here's the key to getting yourself past the activity mode
and into the achievement mode.

Write down 5 specific things you want to accomplish
everyday to help you make money on the internet. Here is an
example of this.

1. Make 5 new posts in forums
2. Trade links with 5 quality websites
3. Submit my article to 5 article websites
4. Place my ad in 5 free classified sites
5. Call 5 of my home business prospects

Now what is the key to these 5 things on my list? Well for
starters they are written down. Next it is an advertising
and marketing driven list.

If you aren't spending 80-90% of your time on advertising
and marketing your home business then you have no right to
complain when you aren't making any money. It is that
simple.

You have to write down action items for the day and the
majority of those action items have to be doing something
to advertise and market your business.

Every one of us has different amounts of time we can spend
everyday working to make money online. It isn't how much
time you spend, but how you spend it that will determine
your long term success.

"Don't Mistake Activity For Achievement."
