E-books are popular because they tend to be shorter and get their point across to the reader in a faster and more convenient way.
You can start writing your e-book by writing a few short articles and submitting them to the largest article directories. The best example of a large article directory is Ezine Articles. On this directory your article will get exposure to people searching for information on your topic, no matter where they are in the world.
Write several articles and see which ones are read the most. That will give you a good idea of how interested people are in the topic you intend to write about. Also, read other people's articles to see which ones are the most interesting to you. When you have written ten articles you will have the basis for your e-book. You can combine these articles into a short report to sell or give away. Then you can go back and expand your short report into a complete e-book.
