Editor's Comments

Barry Scott -Digest Editor

Did anyone get taken for a ride today being April Fool's Day? It seems to be somewhat of a lost art form, I don't hear about the pranks as much. I can remember getting nailed by those who remembered and as usual I had forgotten the date. I had a few good ones pulled on me, I think my favorite was some one handed me a message that a Mr. Lyon had called me, of course I called right away. The lady that answered was quite nice and politely explained to me that he was eating because it was feeding time, I was taken aback from those comments and then asked her to repeat the name of the company, she laughed and told me it was our local zoo! She told me that she had about 10 calls with the same prank that day and in fact she wasn't bothered by all the calls, she just played along more as each call came in. She didn't say it in so many words but I think she could see the embarrassment in their voices when the callers realized where they had called.

It can be aggravating at first, but it does bring brevity to the day and most of the time  you get a good quiet laugh to yourself.

What is Web 2.0?

By Kevin Lynch
According to Wikipedia (which itself is a Web 2.0 application)

"Web 2.0 is a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. With these advanced capacities, a second generation of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies, are evolving. As emphasized in Wiki's definition the most prominent feature of Web 2.0 applications is the ability to have interaction and collaboration among users.

Some of the most prominent Web 2.0 sites would include Myspace, which rumor has it receives an amazing 50,000,000 plus hits per day, Facebook and YouTube. Those are some of the well known sites but there are also millions of others that allow for the user collaboration including blogs, forums, and the social networking sites such as Stumbleupon and Digg.

What is really great about the Web 2.0 applications is the fact that they can help your online business, help you get more traffic and the best part of all, you can do it for free.

You can post links back to your website and post reviews about your business, you can elicit feedback and promote yourself or your business in a myriad of different ways. It's just a matter of how creative can you get. You can start discussions in forums, start a blog to promote your business and submit your site and others to the social networking sites.

Essentially as you get more and more people to see, hear, learn about and even discuss your business, the more chance you have at getting more and more traffic. And the key to any business be it online or a brick and mortar shop is to attract more and more customers. That is why using the power of Web 2.0 can benefit your business beyond the normal advertising means.

The boundaries of Web 2.0 are only limited by your own imagination.

Adlandpro Community Glossary

By Barry Scott

Here is a definition of each function in the Adland Community, this is just to give an idea of how each feature can assist you and make it a little easier to find what you may be looking for.

This is your Home page, it provides information that other members can view:

When someone clicks on your profile what you are looking at on your Home page is what they will see, this includes you picture (if you have uploaded it) and a general overview. There are other tabs in your profile they can look at which include:

Friends: List of all the friends you have made within the Community.

Ads: Allows you to create an Ad Forum, you can read over edit and delete the posts as well as be notified when there is a post to the ad forum.

Web Page: Allows you to list and hyperlink your web sites, you can also provide details about each site you have.

Stats: An overview of Forum, Friends and Feedback stats.

Forum: Lists any Public Forums you have submitted.

About Me: Your chance to tell a little bit about yourself. Again you do not want to divulge to much personal information, it is a way of letting people know your background and builds trust.

Blogs & Photos: Exactly like it sounds, you can post Blogs and or Photos for other members to view.

Of course the information you post here is up to you, however the more information you place here (without getting to personal or providing personal information) allows you to build trust with potential contacts.

This allows you to set up the Home page above through the Set Up Wizard or if you just need to make one change you can do that in the most commonly changed tabs.

Set Up:  Wizard that will allow you to set up most of the information on your Home Page above.

Photo: To upload your photo if you did not have it available when you went through the Set up or if you want to just change your existing photo and not go through the entire set up.

Personal: Allows you to post birth date, time zone, create your signature, mail settings, company URL etc…

Web Page:  Allows you to edit or make complete changes to your web sites with out going through the Set up.

About Me: Allows you to edit or make complete changes to your About Me with out going through the Set up.

My Interests: Allows you to show and select you Interests and Industries and whether they are for Fun and/or Business.

Buddy Setup: Participating in the Buddy Program is entirely on a volunteer basis and you’re not required to help every day. It does require you to register first.

All types of contact you can make through the Community, some of these may be limited based on your membership level.

Personal: (For use by All Members) Inbox/Outbox of all messages received from within the Community, including friend requests, Personal, Targeted and Direct Contact messages. Send one to one message contact with someone on your Friends list.

Direct Contact: (Adlander Basic and Plus Members) Send a Direct message by creating one message and sending to your entire Friends list.

Targeted Msg: (Adlander Plus Members) Send messages to anyone in the Community by Interests or Country or both. This message can be sent out based on the above criteria and are not required to be on your Friends list.

Chat: Start a Chat Room or Join an Existing Chat Room

SMS: By registering for this program you'll be able to send and receive SMS (Text) messages from other AdlandPro members.
Msg Reports: (Adlander Basic and Plus Members) Provides you with a message report of Direct Contact and Targeted Messages sent, this includes the Date and the Ad and the number of recipients it was sent to.

We will conclude the Adlandpro Community Glossary in the next Issue and in Issue #615 we will follow up with the Adlandpro Classified Glossary.

Adlandpro Tips

Some detail into Adlandpro's products and services for the new or experienced user.

Common Technical Questions

What URL are you asking for?

Your affiliate link is the web site address of the page on which you have placed your affiliate link?  Once you have placed your affiliate link code onto a page, it is the address of that page which you must submit to our system for approval.  The link is then verified either manually or automatically and provided the link is correct, as it should be if you copied and inserted the code exactly) then you will be approved.

Please note:  This does not necessarily have to be the website which you are promoting.  It can also be your Community Web Page, your Adlandpro Free Webpage if you signed up for and built one, or any other page on the internet.  The main thing is that your link must be there.

If you have any questions regarding email notifications or if we can help in anyway please contact us.
