Barry Scott -Digest Editor

I would like to wish all of our members a Happy New Year and I look forward to a successful 2009 for all of us. 2008 is now past us and it was one of the more bizarre economic years that most of us have ever seen. We can look back at the past year, see what happened so quickly and although we cannot change anything from 2008, we can certainly learn from it.

When 2007 ended and 2008 began there was little difference between the passing of the two, although there were a few rumblings about the housing bubble popping and some possible recession rumors, everything else seemed somewhat normal. Then things changed very rapidly, early in 2008, the real estate market in the U.S. and Western Europe dropped, by April the recession was declared official in the U.S. and by September it was a global recession. The market plummets in North America in early October and most world markets dive before the end of October coupled with world wide bank collapses before the end of "08", recession was the word we all talked about at holiday gatherings.

It was not of course all bad news, there were significant changes and bailout packages that were put in place. Governmental change in the U.S. seemed to inspire rather than diminish hopes and the original forecasts by most world experts have started to predict weak economic growth early in 2009 for some countries and later this year for most others.

Ring in 2009! Most countries have taken an aggressive approach to their country's economy as well as looking at how this will also assist globally. As with any market, global or otherwise, trends will be the norm and I believe we had a wake up call that we are a global economy first and that each country contributes and relies on one another for its success. It is a time to be cautious but not over cautious! We have to kick start the economic growth by spending, waiting for others to spend and then jump on board will not do it. As with any era when a recession has hit money will still be made and the individuals who are spending are the ones making it.

As always any feedback or questions are always welcome, just click on my name below

Sincerely, Barry Scott Editor

Website Sins - Not Checking Your Search Engine Rankings

By Stefan Drew
Not checking your Search Engine Rankings is like entering as race and not knowing if you came first or last. How can you know if your search engine optimisation (SEO) is working, and that people can find your website, unless you check your rankings?

Clearly although we all aspire to be on Page One of Google we cannot all be there. It is especially difficult to be there for generic terms, however someone has to be on page one and someone has to be number one; and it can be you if you follow the rules.

Remember most people have little knowledge of the rules and you are therefore advantaged.

Your rankings can be checked in several ways. For example the Google toolbar, which you can download with no charge, contains a PageRank button that can rate any webpage you visit.

Alternatively Google relevant keywords or keyword phrases and see where you rank against your competitors.

Rankings are dynamic and change all the time. You might be on Page One today but if your competitors improve their pages you might slip back down the rankings. Should you not be as high up the rankings as you would like then you need to further optimize your pages.

Consider your page title, page descriptor, keywords, headlines, content, keyword density, incoming links etc and you will frequently be able to improve your page ranking for virtually any web page. Each one of these provide you with an opportunity to improve your search engine rankings; improve them all and you can be well on the way to improving your search engine rankings considerably.

Niche Marketing Secrets - What the Gurus Don't Tell You

By Heather Hyvarinen
If you are trying to make money online, you will have noticed that there are a lot of products out there that claim to show you how to make $1,000's of dollars online in just a few short days.

I will be the first to tell you that it is absolutely possible to make this kind of money online. I personally know people who make 6 and even 7 figure a year incomes online, and I myself make my living online.

However, what the Gurus don't tell you is that the best way for the great majority of people to make money online is through consistent, persistent effort. It's how I did it and how everyone I know who makes money online does it.

Here are my niche marketing secrets.

Niche Marketing Secret #1. Pick a plan and follow it.

Those Guru sales letters and pitches are appealing aren't they? I know I have bought my share of programs. And actually most of the programs that I have bought actually work. The problem with this approach is that it is very easy to become "a jack of all trades and a master of none".

Hopping from program to program will not often get you the results that you hope for, in fact it will probably just cause you a great deal of frustration.

So pick a plan that you like and that makes sense to you, and follow that plan, you're chances for success will skyrocket.

Niche Marketing Secret #2. Test, test, test

Without exception, every single person that I know who is successful in niche marketing tests lots of niche marketing campaigns.

Many Guru's won't tell you this, but it is normal to fail more than you succeed. In fact, one of the most successful marketers I know said that when he started out only one of 4 campaigns was successful!

So test lots of campaigns to find the golden ones. This is a great approach and if you follow it you will have no choice but to become successful.
