We can never assume that we have done everything we can to market the product or service that we are offering. The dictionary definition for the word assume; to pretend to have or be; : to take as granted or true. My point? That being cognizant of our marketing and advertising efforts to a degree of not assuming but rather knowing it works is one of our most important functions as a business.

When we find a market or new media company to advertise on, do we run a few ads and if there is no response declare that market as dead and move on? This is again an assumption, we should be trying to advertise with different looks until we get it right. There is always going to be a sale in every market you advertise in or on, it is up to you to make sure it works for the long run. 

There are only so many places you can advertise on. What do you think will take longer, continuously looking for new places and creating a few ads and leaving if it flops or finding places of potential and working on it until you achieve success? I prefer the latter, but of course that is just my opinion.

Small Business Marketing Strategy - Website Structure

Getting Rid Of The Brochure Mentality: Many business owners and entrepreneurs build a website without understanding the fundamental reasons for doing so. As such, they create what I call a 'brochure' website. You may have done this already.

Well don't be upset, it's a pretty natural thing to do. For some reason we decide to follow the lead of the majority, thinking if everybody is doing it, it must be the right thing to do... WRONG!

So, going against all conventional wisdom, why do we put up a website? What is the best way to use it?

The Fundamental Reason for Being

Why do you need or want a website? The answer is LEAD GENERATION. Lead generation will lead to small business sales! How is your web site structure important when it comes to lead generation and marketing for small business?

Landing Pages

Well, in order to generate leads you will need to make offers. Offers need to be tweakable. Therefore, you need to be able to update your content easily and quickly. More importantly though you must have a specific page for your offer. These pages are called 'Landing Pages'.

Let me explain...

Lets say you have a website where you are selling weight loss products. One of your supply companies is running a marketing campaign and you think you can make more sales while the campaign is running. Would you send your visitor to the home page of your website, hoping that they find the specific information about the sales campaign? That's not going to going to be a very effective marketing campaign!

Or would you send them directly to the promotion?

You'd send them directly to it and make the offer very clear, being very specific about that offer and nothing else.

No matter what you do online, you must be able to make clear offers to visitors in order to generate leads and sales for your small business. You do that by sending them to specific pages, which we call landing pages.

Hopefully, you will be able to edit these quickly and easily, so you can tweak your offers and get the best response possible.

Search Engines Want Content

They love to suck it up! The more content you have the better! There's a saying 'Content is King!'. Its true.

The more pages you have the better. The more often you add and update content the better.

Did you know that the way your pages are linked together is very important? Your internal page linking strategy is as important as your external links strategy. I can hear you thinking 'strategy, shhhhhmategy! this is getting technical, I don't want to know about this'. That's fair enough, it is technical. And while you can put a website up and link it together any way you please, if you want a good search engine ranking, it pays to have your site built by a professional who knows about this stuff.

By the way, what you call your pages and the physical directory or folder structure of your website is petty important too! So if you've got a site that has pages named page1.html, page5.html etc, you should start thinking about keywords for your page names! That's an important strategy too.

Your small business marketing strategy must start by getting rid of the brochure mentality. You must start thinking lead generation. Everything starts with lead generation!

Fortunately, for a very little cost, you can have a software that allows you to do visitor tracking and it comes with a web traffic analyzer so you'll not just know how many people have clicked or viewed your ads but why and why not.

How to Succeed in Forum Marketing

The first thing you need to consider on in forum marketing is not to join a forum and immediately insert signature links in your signature file and begin submitting posts, this will only give the impression of spamming instead of genuinely contributing to the forum.

The proper way to join a forum is to first introduce yourself and engage in some conversation and make about 5-10 posts with genuine content. This will appear to the forum members that you are providing value to the forum and after a few days you can now insert your signature file. Also you should never post any links that are self promoting in the body of your post: this will label you as someone who spams and eventually you will be banned from the forum.

Now, let's get into what to look for when joining a forum. Typically you should choose forums that have a large community; this will insure that you will be getting plenty of traffic to your signature file providing that you are active in the forum. You also should be consistent with your posts; about 5-10 posts a day should be your goal, in a month that's 150-300 posts and remember to be consistent month after month.

Another factor that you should consider in Forum Marketing is never argue with a forum member no matter what yours or their opinion is, if you want to keep a reputation of providing valuable content then you must follow this rule.

There are six tasks you must perform if you want to learn How to Succeed in Forum Marketing

1. Knowing when to insert your signature
2. Provide valuable content
3. Always avoid spamming
4. Submit 5-10 posts per day
5. Never argue with forum members
6. Be consistent

You will, over time, become noted as an expert on various discussions and themes in the forum. People naturally will go to your website and see what else you have to offer through your signature file.

Common Technical Questions

                                                               
I was applying to be your Affiliate but I received an email with a heading "Adlandpro Affiliate Error URL Notification" why was my Affiliate URL rejected?

These are the most common reasons as to why you received this notification and what actions need to be done to resolve it!

Submitting a URL which refers to Adlandpro - The purpose of the program is to divert external traffic into Adlandpro.com.  If you are submitting a URL which refers to Adlandpro.com then traffic is not coming from outside the site and thus defeats the purpose of the program.

Incorrect or Invalid User Linked - Make sure that the code you used refers to YOUR UserID.  There is a portion of the code which appears like "?ref=281002"  the portion after "ref=" must be your UserID.  If not, this must be changed. 

Submitting a non-English Character Set URL - Because the vast majority of our user sites are in English, affiliate sites must be in English or will not be accepted.  We do not have international subsidiaries at this time.  If your site was rejected, make sure the character set is not in a different language.      

Page Not Found - This is pretty self explanatory.  The page which you submitted is non-existent and our automated system cannot access it.  Make sure the URL you submit is correct. 

Time Outs - Sometimes servers will be down for whatever reason and we understand that this happens from time to time.  When we get this error message on URLs you submit, we try them once more the day after.  If it is still down, we suspect a greater issue is responsible and thus remove the submission from the database. 

Link is Banned - There are a lot of websites out there which use simulated clicks to divert traffic to websites.  We watch for these carefully on our Affiliate Links.  Make sure you are not using a site which uses pop-under, spiders, robots, or any other auto-surfing technology to create activity on your Affiliate URL. 

Inappropriate Content - We will not approve any websites which link to, distribute, or is in any way associated with Adult-Related or Pornographic material, pirated software or copyrighted material, Questionable Content, or any subject or theme which may be considered offensive in nature.
