Web 2.0 Gives a New Life to Online Business

By Christopher J. Freville

With every passing day, people are waking up to the potential of the Internet in the business of social networking and communicating. With the advent of robust search engines, blog sites and spammer protected social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, more and more business personalities are turning to the net to reap the true fruit of their efforts. Suppose a manufacturer spends a fortune in making a commodity which will be of utmost benefit to the customer and he also sees to that it goes through a rigorous quality check so that there remains, virtually no scope for customer queries or complaints, then isn't implicit that he should look for an effective means of publicizing his product.

If he just limits his market potential just to the knowledge of newspaper reader, radio listeners and television viewers, then he is digging his own grave. In the twenty first century, one must look for publicity that comes cheap and also delivers the product idea to the consumer in a jiffy. In order to do that, more and more business firms and global entrepreneurs are gradually starting to exercise there creative skills on an infinite potential platform called Web 2.0.

What exactly is this infinite potential platform like? Why is it coming with an auspicious tag like version 2.0? Did anything come before it that was less advanced compared to this one? To put it simply, devoid of net savvy lingo or jargon, Web 2.0 is the process of seeing the Internet as a complex platform upon which there are no limits, instead of a single-level tool. This ability to visualize and utilize a single software or a platform in an infinite number of ways to suit one's personal goals and needs, is like every marketers dream come true.

Let us look back a bit. Web version 1.0 did not have such a flawless architecture to handle advanced java scripts for websites, company websites continuously crashed under the burden of too much data to be handled. Neither was there a social networking engine, which ensured such a wholesome of global connectivity where any message about any new product, launched in the market, reached its niche of customers at the click of a button. Nowadays, in the Web 2.0 templates, customers get to know about their favorite company's latest gizmo, while they are busy checking their email or chatting.

Apart from giving better looking website, you can be assured to get higher quality of technology exceeding CSS, HTML, XML and scripting that is from the server side. Some of the well-known strategies of web 2.0 are SOA architecture, mash up technology, web services that are well-organized for extended application and so on.

Web 2.0 allows you arm space for innovative measures like using a larger company logo, highlighting important keywords with larger font size, varying deep and inner layouts, color versatility and contrasts, and mind blowing special effects for better business promotion by increasing the visibility of your company.

7 Top Reasons For Writing Or Not Writing a Business Plan

By Niall Strickland

Many entrepreneurs and small business owners have never written a business plan and really do not see the need for one. Here are 7 top reasons why you should not, and 7 top reasons why you should, write one.

7 top reasons often given for not writing a business plan.

1. Written plans are only for big companies

2. I am in control of my business and do not need a plan

3. I do not have the time to waste on such luxuries

4. I can always do one next year

5. My bank has never asked for one

6. I will only need one plan if I want to attract external investors

7. The business is too small to need one

7 top reasons why you should write a business plan

1. The simple process of writing a plan forces you to analyse where your business is right now

2. Involving team members helps you to understand some of the mistakes you are making as well as some of the things you do really well

3. The planning process encourages members of your team to contribute ideas on the future success of your business

4. It allows you to understand where you are heading to and to communicate this to team members and gain their commitment

5. It allows you to do a gap analysis on where you are now compared to where you hope to be in 3 or 5 years time

6. It allows you to set and agree milestones that chart the progress being made over the life of the plan

7. When you write things down, there is a far better chance of making it happen

On balance, there are many compelling reasons for writing a business plan and very few objections that cannot be knocked down with a little bit of rational thought. A business plan is a road map for you and your business to follow. It is a living breathing document that should constantly evolve with your business. It helps to ensure that you do not take wide excursions off the highway. The quickest way between two points is a straight line. Let your  plan become the straight line that you follow to success.
