Editor's Comments

Barry Scott -Digest Editor

Notice the theme and holiday decor in the malls and stores? They are not just putting it up to celebrate the season as a favor to their shoppers, it is a well known fact that it inspires buying. If you haven't done so already, now is a good time to get your website into both of these festive spirits (Holidays and Sales) because Holiday decorations inspire the consumer to buy.

Adding a few decorations may not seem like much but it can produce sales just because it's there. Do not worry about the naysayers who say keep it clean or politically correct. Celebrate the holidays the way you would like or make it multi-cultural if that is what you feel comfortable with. Your customers are not likely to resent it either way.

It will create more of a buying atmosphere and by placing a few decorations it may inspire a sale or two. It has been working very well for years by the Shopping Malls and Big Box Stores.

As always and feedback or questions are always welcome, just click on my name below

Sincerely, Barry Scott Editor

Simple Steps to Wiser Web Sites

By Julie D. Thompson

A business web site is a must, but if it doesn't accurately reflect your business and brand, it can do more harm than good. This critical sales tool must be created thoughtfully and updated consistently. Review the following tips to see if your web site is in need of a marketing makeover.

1. Personality Plus - Your passion and personality should shine through in both design and copy, and your brand message should be consistent. When your site appears, that first impression should set the appropriate tone for the content they're about to browse. For most people, hiring a professional designer and copywriter is a worthwhile investment, saving hours of frustration and lost customers. They'll channel your personality and enthusiasm into materials that speak to clients and prospects, and provide the necessary objectivity.

2. Copy Right - Keep copy to the point, enjoyable to read and don't send mixed messages. For example, if you're an attorney, your web site needs to convey your experience and professionalism, even if your friends think you're the life of the party. Those in creative fields need web sites that make it clear you have a great design sense, but also know how to integrate design with the best online business practices. Provide frequent paragraph breaks, and if visitors have to scroll too far down the page, consider major editing or moving some of this copy to an additional page. In general, less is more.

3. Buried Treasure - You may have great content on your site, but can visitors find it? Logical navigation and easy-to-find links and buttons go a long way in keeping visitors on your site and not clicking off in frustration. In addition, link to pages that are referenced in the body copy. Many sites include video now, but they keep it hidden and provide no reference to it. Have a designated space on your home page for your latest video or a link to it. Video has a high "stickiness" factor, so if you have it, make it easy to find!

4. Proof Positive - Edit, edit, edit. There is no easier way to tell visitors and potential customers that you don't run a tight ship than by having typos, misspellings and grammatical errors littered throughout your site. You may think it's not that important, but it is often these small details that give visitors a reason to doubt your professionalism. Put your high school English class skills to work (or hire an editor) and clean it up.

5. Linked In - Ditto for links. Make sure they work and actually take visitors where they think they'll go. Test them frequently using both a Mac and a PC, and at least the major browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. Again, if a visitor encounters a broken link, it's far too easy to move on to the next site or task.

6. Background Check - Why wear out visitors as they try to decipher your 10-point white text on a black background, while the animated logo rotates in the corner? Use a light-colored background, dark text and keep the bells and whistles to a minimum. Your visitors will thank you (and spend more time on your site).

7. Sound Advice - Use audio with extreme caution (trust me, most people don't think it's that cool), and don't ever have audio start unexpectedly. Make the surprises on your site pleasant ones. A great use of audio is with podcasts that visitors intentionally click on to hear what you have to say.

8. User Friendly - Okay, that great Google ad brought a visitor to your site who skimmed your content and decided that yes, he does want to sign up for your newsletter or purchase your product. Hurray! Don't blow it by making the sign up or purchase process too cumbersome. Newsletter sign ups shouldn't require a lot of personal information. Retail sites should make it easy for buyers to determine the total cost of an item by providing tables or quick links to calculate taxes and shipping. Frustration is generally followed by a quick click off of your site.

9. Call Me - Playing hard to get may be your dating strategy, but it's a terrible web site strategy. Put your business contact information on every page where it's easy to find. In addition, you need a contact page that provides all the methods people can use to reach you. Make it easy for visitors to contact you, and then listen and respond to them when they do.

10. Objective Eye - Ask someone whose opinion you trust (who doesn't work for you or share your bank account) to review your site, and listen to their comments without interrupting or getting defensive. Some things may be hard to hear, but it's the best way to catch potential problems before you lose visitors forever. Like any creative endeavor, you're too close to it and have reviewed it too many times to be objective. If possible, host a focus group with several people who resemble your customer base, and prepare a simple questionnaire for them to fill out as they review your site.

A few simple changes can take your web site from ho hum to humming along. Refer to this list every few months and do the necessary maintenance to ensure your web site is working as hard as possible to convert visitors into customers.

How Can We Increase Google Crawling Rate?

By Abhyudaya Tripathi

Sometimes people face the problems with their web sites like web pages not being indexed for a long time. That's why they all wants to know that how they can increase the Google crawling rate or Google crawl rate.

But before explaining you to how to increase Google crawling rate, I would like to tell you that what determines how or with what frequency Google crawls your site

• Relative importance of your site

Relative importance of your web site can be measured by two metrics:

• Number of web pages within your web site
• Number of links to your site

Now, I am mentioning the methods which will help you to get my post crawl faster by Google:

1. Turn on Pingback and Trackback option ON for you blog.

2. Now when you write any new article or post try to include relevant link with proper Anchor text to your older article or post that are already indexed/ crawled in Google.

3. Pingback/ Trackback helps Google crawler to locate new links and by adding Pingback from your new post you are directing Googlebot to crawl your newer post.

4. One thing also I want to tell you that apart for this Google webmaster also have option to set Google Crawling Rate.

You need to remember one thing that the more important your site is, the more often Google will crawl your web site. Google crawling is required by a large content-rich portal more often as such portal is likely to add new content whereas a low-quality outdated web site would be a waste of time if Google crawled it quickly. If have pointing more quality links to your web site then Google will give higher values to your site and crawls it with higher crawl frequency.

I hope my all tips will be remembered by you.
