Tracking Performance

Tracking your ads is one of the most important things you can do. The numbers are there and these are essential in determining your success rate. When you are running your ads in the Impressions or Traffic Exchange you are supplied with statistics that you can use to determine what's working and what's not working. Even if you are running free ads or Renewable Ads and you have selected the option of being notified by email, you will receive an email telling you your ad had a visitor. This can be used as a stat tracker to determine how well your ads are doing.

We usually use a CTR% (Click Through Rate Percentage) of 0.25% or higher for Impression ads and 0.40% or higher for Traffic Exchange as a measurement of success. Classified ads are a little tougher to determine based on the competition in a certain category and the fact that they are amongst other ads. However you can get a feel for this based on the emails you receive from us when you ad is clicked on in the classifieds.

Please always remember that by constantly tracking your ads' performance if you have an ad that is not performing well after a month, it's likely this will not change and the ad should be edited or replaced to bring better results.

Sincerely, Barry Scott Editor

Why Business Ethics Are So Important

By J. Must

Asking why business ethics are so important is much like asking why does the sea need water. If you or anyone you know, expects to have a business for very long without having good business ethics then I suggest you start baling today. Good business ethics will allow you to deal fairly and honestly with your customers, clients and staff so that you have a business. Without people, you may end up with a lot of "stuff" and no sales. No sales equals no business and you and your family will probably go hungry for the foreseeable future.

Ethics are one of those intangibles that are not easily defined or quantified but if they aren't present, the lack of them will hit you immediately. Humans seem to have an innate sense of right and wrong built into their psyche and when they meet someone who is trying or doing the wrong thing to them, most people know immediately. So, is a degree of ethics already built into our human DNA structure?

I like to suppose that they are. This means we can be guided from a baseline and it then is up to each of us as individuals as to whether or not we accept this guidance or whether we choose to over-ride it and do whatever suits us at the time. Perhaps this is the free will that the Bible says man has been given? Why do some people chose to over-ride this baseline ethical guidance is more often than not, done for personal gain of some sort.

Personal gain can spiral into greed and seems more likely to do this for unscrupulous business people. Perhaps they have more opportunity to practice greed than the average employee or perhaps this is an adjunct to whatever stirred them into their own business in the first place and not being an employee. People are very complicated and business ethics get tested and re-tested on a daily basis.

Having a good moral code to guide a business person is essential if the business is to gain a good reputation and prosper. Without good business ethics any business is unlikely to proper or grow. In fact, it is extremely doubtful if any business will survive if they don't show they are an ethical business.

Lets examine an imaginary retail store selling household china and home wares. If your business was a wholesaler, and this make-believe retailer asked you to supply and deliver a shipment of goods on consignment to them for a period of one month. At the end of this month suppose they were to pay you for what they had sold and return all unsold items to you.

Now lets suppose at the end of that month, you receive a check for just over half of the goods and they say that the rest of the shipment arrived broken and unsaleable. Rather than pay the freight on the broken items, they expected you to believe that they had thrown away all the breakages. Would you believe them?

More importantly, would you ever do any business with them again?

Any business, whether they are a retailer, wholesaler, internet marketer or jumbuck dealer, would never want to do business with such an unethical business operator again. Without honesty in business there can be no business transacted.

Having good business ethics online and off-line can improve your business reputation and keeps small businesses in business today.

How to Write Headlines - 7 Tips for Writing Effective Marketing Headlines

By Megan Tsai

Learning how to write headlines is crucial for marketing success. Whether you're writing a headline for your brochure, a title for your white paper or a subject line for your e-mail marketing campaign, you need those first words your prospect reads to be catchy and intriguing.

These seven strategies will get you thinking about the creative headline options you can use next time you need an attention-grabbing headline. The examples (for a dog food called Healthy Paws) following each tip will help you understand exactly how to apply each strategy to your writing.

1. Appeal to your prospect's emotions. A little tug on the heartstrings is sure to get your potential customer's attention. Example: Is your dog's food harming his health?

2. Tailor your message to specific customer segments. Every customer wants to be unique. By appealing to each customer group's interests and affinities, you'll connect on a deeper level. Example (targeted to fitness-buff women): You care about your health - what about hers?

3. Be the teacher. People are always on the lookout for useful, relevant information. Offer to provide the information they're searching for. Example: Seven ways to help your dog live longer.

4. Ask a question. Open up a conversation with the reader by asking them a question they'll want the answer to. Example: Why does Healthy Paws have dog tails wagging?

5. Make an offer they can't refuse. When you have a great offer to deliver, don't beat around the bush. Tell them upfront what the offer is with a direct, to-the-point message. Example: Get your free sample of Healthy Paws - today!

6. Share the news. Prospects are drawn to things that are fresh and new. If you have a new product, or if there is recent news relating to your product, try incorporating it into your headline. Example: New study shows Healthy Paws dogs live longer.

7. Make it personal. People love to hear about what you can do for them. Include the word "you" or "yourself" in the headline to make sure they get this message. Example: Help your dog live longer - here's how.

Placing any new ads will just remove oldest ads if you exceed the 20 ad limit. Updating your ads on regular basis will ensure that your ads do not have broken links and will move them a little closer to the top.
