Did you Know?

I have not done this for a while on the Digest and we all have to take our minds off the stresses of work from time to time so I hope this enlightens your day and or gives you something to discuss with others. There is something to the statement "Truth can be stranger than Fiction". Just take a look at the assortment of facts below.

Nature: Hmmmm, could this be a trend? Global Warming! 65 million years ago the earth was hotter than now. 15,000 years ago there was the Ice Age, with temperatures about 7 °C colder than today. From 800 to 1300 AD it was hotter again, melting the sea ice, allowing Vikings and other groups to cross oceans and colonize lands; it is referred to as the Medieval Warm Period. But from 1300 to 1900 it was colder again, that period dubbed the Little Ice Age. And now we are getting hotter again.

Animal Facts: Anger management issues? The hippo is the third biggest land animal, slightly smaller but heavier than a white rhino – the elephant is the biggest. But no animal has killed more people than the hippo.

Fire that water can't put out! The spices in most of the hot foods that we eat are oily, and, like your elementary school science teacher taught you, oil and water don’t mix. In this case, the water just rolls over the oily spices. What can you do to calm your aching tongue? Eat bread. The bread will absorb the oily spices. A second solution is to drink milk. Milk contains a substance called “casein” which will bind to the spices and carry them away. Alcohol also dissolves oily spices.

Are You a Needy Networker?

By Erin Currin

When I made the jump from a corporate accountant to an entrepreneur, Networking and a Sales Conversation were the two things that had me perplexed.

In my career, I've never had to "Fill my funnel" or "Feed my pipeline." My inbox was always overflowing with things to do! And my paycheck kept coming.

So, I never really had to learn.

In fact, I was so clueless about the whole process of prospecting and selling that I was one of those people who HATED the idea of a sales conversation or of being one of those poor losers who have to go deal a deck business cards at a morning coffee clutch every week.

When those "needy" sales people would darken my door, I experienced a combination of fear and dread. I didn't want to get taken, so I was never really open to what many of them had to say.

When I turned the tables on myself and quit my job, I quickly began to experience what it's like to be out there hocking my wares and having to feed my own business in order to pay the bills.

I was lost, clueless, and oh so NEEDY!

What's your flavor?

Being at a breakfast or a happy hour can feel kinda like being at a middle school dance. Everyone is busily buzzing about. Some people know what to do. While so many others don't.

At a typical event, a few people will introduce themselves to anyone and everyone, others gather in cliques talking only with people they know, and still others stand off to the side looking fearful and dejected.

You can usually tell who a person is by how they approach the room.

The Clique

The person who hangs out in cliques has a comfortable business going. Maybe they've been coming here forever and everyone who is anyone uses his or her service. They don't feel a need to stretch beyond their normal group because there isn't any NEED. They are usually cordial when someone new is introduced. Sometimes they can seem overconfident or superior. Often, they just don't feel motivated to take the initiative to expand their circle.

The Wallflower

The people who stand off to the side hoping to get noticed is usually either new or desperate. They don't know anyone and have no clue how to approach people. They don't understand the rules of the game and so they sit off to the side waiting for someone to take pity on them. If someone does speak with them, they usually "throw up" information all over that poor soul and lose any chance of ever doing business. Eventually, they quietly fade into the background and eventually stop coming, either because they give up on the idea of networking or they go bankrupt.

The last group, those daredevils who are bouncing from person to person, come in two flavors.

The "Card Shark"

The first flavor are the networkers that are the reason for the stereotype so many have. They burst into the room with a fist full of business cards and hit anyone who can fog a mirror. They shove a card in your hand and give you a quick snapshot of why it would be so GREAT to do business with them and then quickly depart to the next victim. In the olden days of networking, they rarely asked for your business card, but now, they do just to put you on their email list. They don't care whether or not you are a "fit" for their solution. What difference does THAT make?

The Pollinator

The second flavor are the bees that pollinate the group. These are true networkers in every sense of the word. They arrive and greet everyone, even the lady at the registration table, with a warm smile and a firm handshake. They work the room, creating conversation with anyone they connect with. But they aren't frivolous. They have an agenda. They know who their prospects are and guide conversations to understand whether the person they are connecting with is a good fit... or not. These savvy connectors recognize that while the person in front of them may not be a good candidate now, he or she may be later or may know someone who is. This busy bee is cultivating relationships that will blossom into leads, sales, and profits for years to come.

Take a moment...

Think back over your networking experience.

Are you cliquish? Perhaps you're a wallflower? Maybe you're a card shark?

Or, are you genuinely concerned with contributing to the life and the business of the people you come in contact with? Are you creating a garden that will produce fruit for years to come?

Are you getting the training you need get the leads your business needs?

People will tell you that networking is essential to a thriving business.

The thing they don't tell you is that it's not just about throwing your pitch and waiting for someone in the group to catch it.

Networking is an art..

Two Steps To Become An Expert Marketer

By Larry McCullough

Are you looking to become an expert marketer? Not sure what steps you need to master in order to become an expert? If so, this article on two steps to become an expert marketer is definitely for you. Everyone who is in business is in marketing. Having the knowledge and ability to market and sell yourself, your product, or idea is a crucial skill to master in order to find success and build the business of your dreams.

The moment you are no longer marketing is the minute you should close up shop and but an out of business sign on your door. Remember marketing never stops! Here I'll go over a few key steps one needs to master in order to become an expert marketer.

Learn how to shine in a competitive marketplace

If you've taken the time to create a product or come up with an idea then you need to make sure your offer for the product or idea really stands out. A great way to achieve this is through positioning the offer. You'll want to go through whatever it is you're promoting and find ways to add value! You'll be able to accomplish this by discovering what your product is missing from it or by creating the perfect bonus to add as a companion to the original product. Now when it's time for people to decide on who to buy from they see your offer and the unique reasons why they need to buy from you instead of from your competitors. By marketing your product in a way that makes it seem unique or better than other similar products you've separated yourself from the competition!

Analyze your presence online

In today's world if you want to get the most out of your marketing efforts you need to have a solid web presence. Be sure to join social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to further build your brand or product. Also join and become an active member of a few of the many social networking and professional online communities like LinkedIn. You can make important contacts and build future marketing relationships without ever having to leave your computer.

Remember marketing should be showing you where you're wrong and right. In order to be successful you need to learn from your mistakes and turn them into future successes. Hopefully, this article on two steps to become an expert marketer has shown you a couple key things to focus in on and implement into marketing your business.
