From: "Dan Farrell" <jdfarrell@hotmail.com>
Subject: Online Marketing Techniques and FFA links

Hi y'all:

After dabbling on the net for over 2 yrs with promoting, selling  various
programs, mlm's to affiliates, I have come to the conclusion (nobody said I
was a fast learner!), that very few businesses will be able to be successful
ONLY online. By that I mean, very few product/services lend themselves to
the Internet environment alone. Unless you have a lot of money, and I mean a
lot!

Some of the product/services that might be successfully sold are
information, of course sex (which is the bane of the Internet), books,
music, i.e., CD's..,

Otherwise, most successful online biz have an offline store or company or
they promote heavily offline. My point is, carefully determine your best
marketing plan/strategy before you even start! Make sure that what you are
selling, if exclusively online, is cogent to an impersonal sale and devise a
plan that will give you the biggest bang for you buck. As one who has a
limited budget (as in hardly any extra $), be wise and prudent with whom you
give it to in your effort to sell product. The net is rife with those with
less than honorable intentions.

For those who might be interested in who I feel is upright and honest, send
me an email.
jdf39@gate.net

I also feel that FFA's are a waste of time, as well as most classifieds. I
have a list of ten classified ad sites that will provide a good return on
your time and are free! You don't have to do what I have done, place ads by
the hundreds to find ones that work.  Email me and I will send you the list
as well.

My belief after much trial and error, frustration and some exhilaration is
that nothings replaces the human touch, whether a phone call, personal visit
or networking. People are too cynical and/or suspicious to place their hard
earned bucks with someone they don't know, aka, trust. It is a time
consuming effort to build that trust online unless you name is IBM, Bill
Gates...

My thoughts only!

Subject: Re: Falsely Accused (Spam issue)

Dear Bogdan,
Thanks so much for the great digest. I appreciate everyones feedback on the
spam issue. I didn't mean to open a can of spam :-0 The thing that really
upset me was the fact that I've never bought bulk email, I don't go to the
classifieds and send people offers and I usually don't send bounce backs. I
merely sent an email directing this individual to my free marketing resources
page as a gesture of good will. I detest spam and my email accounts are
constantly full of it. My good reputation was nearly ruined and I felt
humiliated by having to argue my case with the manager of my ISP. I'm just
warning people that your ISP will terminate your account and your business may
very well go down the drain with that.
Thanks Again

From: Greta <webmaster@team-man.de>
Subject: Re: Falsely Accused (Spam issue)

Hello!

At de.admin.news.announce  (Newsgroup)  started the first discussion about a
so called "Usenet Death Penalty for AOL", stating, that especially AOL opens
and forces doors for SPAM through their weak terms and not paing attention
to complaints since years.

Now I read the digest for the first time and I was wondering, that the
discussion about "SPAM" in Adlands Digest #99 narrows down to quite "normal"
(although very very annoying - do not get me wrong!) spamming and does not
mention AOL or the unbelievable matter, that MICROSOFT as company for ITSELF
seems to cause SPAM and promote SPAM their way.

So -  HOW sould one act against GIANTS - when they even start SPAM working
for themselves?

I agree and I think it is alright, if I use someones Linklist, that he puts
his offers in the confirmation mail - as mostly - lets be honest, you really
do not take to much attention to their page, unless something really
attracts your eye.

What starts frightening me, is that kind of VIRUS - the upper level of
Spam - which is going to fill your mailbox, saying Microsoft pays you for
each of that letter or so, if you send it to 5 other people. The adresses,
which sent them are none of the names of FFA-Lists known to me. Replying why
they send me this letter (all in english - never received a german yet)
resp. where they got my e-mail-adress from takes too much time for me - a
letter sent to Microsoft Germany 1 week ago had no reply until now.

I just cannot believe in times everybody talkes about providing and killing
Spam - Microsoft comes up with that "great" Idea.

So, I hardly can believe, this is really Microsoft4s work???

If somebody defenitely knows it is - is there a newsgroup or action against
it? Please let me (us?) know, where to protest against it.

Greeting from Germany
Greta

Subject: How to stop junk Email (SPAM).

Bogdan,
I love your ezine. It is a good one! I know from reading your zine that
ALL people who subscribe HATE SPAM and do not want junk email jamming up
their private Email box. Do not forget that all of you that recieve
unsolicited junk Email are to blame. You left your private Email address
somewhere in cyberspace and a SPAM ROBOT found and harvested your
address. To effectively stop spam, NEVER, EVER use your private Email
address when surfing or doing business on the internet. Instead, do what
i do.
DUE TO UNSOLICITED JUNK EMAIL (SPAM)...
My personal email address now remains very "private" and "hidden"
against spammers and spam robots. I only give my private email address
to friends and websites I trust. However, you may easily click on my
6-digit "PROXY PAGER" number and leave a message. I will respond.
Because of the built-in checks and balances of my PROXY PAGER i cannot
receive or send junk email (Spam). Thanks for helping make the internet
a spam FREE enviroment.

I would like to create a legal site ( I am a lawyer) but I have been tearing
out my hair trying to get a focus. I have worked in criminal and family
law-General Practice, Criminal Law 2 years, Personal Injury Law 5 years,
Business formation and agreements 5 years.
My Ideas:
Is just consultations unlimited too broad?
Maybe Internet legal consultations?
Something like: Internet Contracts or Internet Agreements (The thought:
drafting contracts for and between on line companies)
Legal Document Assembly Online?
Legal Forms Online?
I can't seem to get a feel despite a lot of surfing at legal sites as to what
people would want. Afterall, I am semi-retired (medical) and I still have to
make a living. Any input would be appreciated.

I am a beginning web designer and have been working in the MLM area
with natural supplements for 1/2 year (Ionx Resource).  My biggest concern now,
is to be seen.  I have made the submissions to the "larger" search engines as
well as some of the more obscure.  I do not want to "cheat" the search engines
as some suggest that I do by inserting the hot search words .  I would hope to
have my web site seen for its content and not because I have inserted some hot
terms into the metatags.  I have tried the banner ads (free and not free alike).
We hear how the internet is the hottest way to get to the audience, but still my web
site suffers from visitors.  Help???????

From: Stephen Serracino Inglott <ssi@maltanet.net>
Subject: Combining the 'Alladvantage' concept companies

Dear Adland,

In previous issues a lot had been said about the new concept of
earning money for your time spent watching ads online while you
surf the way you normally do.

It was thought that AllAdvantage was the first of its kind, coming
up with the great original idea. That was not the case. The idea
was copied from two other established companies already paying
their members, namely NetFraternity and TopBanner. These are
both italian companies, keeping the italian tradition of being
pioneers. The main difference is that Alladvantage combined this
idea with the power of MLM, where members earn commission
on referrals.

As some of you might have already thought, Why not combine the
3 companies services and get checks from each? This IS possible
as their software does not conflict, and the amount of screen left
for browsing is still reasonable, especially with a 17'' monitor.

Now, most webmasters have a link on their site to Alladvantage,
to get as many referrals as they could. This proves to be the easiest
program for which to get referrals, mainly because its free,
rewarding, and its target is the whole world of internet users.
Already 1000's sites are listed under the keyword 'alladvantage'
in the main search engines. This is shear proof that offering free
stuff and especially cash and its MLM combination on websites
will increase the number of hits. Unfortunately this is not always
possible.

Stephen Serracino Inglott

From: Terri Robinson <queen3@home.com>

Hello again Bogdan and Adlanders!

Bogdan, thank you so much for bringing us Linda
Carroll's article "Of Rhyme & Reason of Associate
Programs"! This is one of the best articles I
have seen in a long time!

I too went to review the site from issue #99 request
I believe:
>2.)http://www.myfreeoffice.com/aaainfosource//Affiliates.html

only to find the same thing that Peter did - I was not
able to access the site.

>From: Peter G. Browne <pgb@swdomains.com>
>
>4.) http://www.momsnetwork.com/suites/countrysuite
>On a personal note I went to look at the cows and what did
>I find? Although what I found was pleasing to the eyes I
>really wanted to see the cows :) .<< attempt at humor >>
>
>

Peter, this was so hysterically funny to me that I clicked
over immediately to find out about those cows! <grin> Alas,
I didn't see ANY cows, so I went into the Store to browse
around. Perhaps it is my browser, or it could be that
the .gif images are not named the same in the directory as
they are in the HTML code on the page, but I couldn't see
ANY of the product pictures. The descriptions are great -
seems like these could be products that a lot of people
would like to buy - but they will want to see them first :)

I think this site has a great beginning. I am not sure
what the delay in loading is caused by because the layout
of the page is clean - using links within the description
is very good - gives the author's opinion and a sort of
testimonial to tell the visitor what they will find there.
I liked that.

Perhaps dividing the main page into two pages - one for
business related and a link to the personal pages. I
think it depends on what you want the main purpose of
your page to be. I loved the graphics!
Good luck!!

Best regards,
Terri

PS. as you are doing site reviews would you check out
http://business.fortunecity.com/bechtel/692
it is a site promoting the use of free web space to create income from
affiliate programs. It is incomplete as yet but is getting a fair
response. Also I notice considerable disdain for ffa links pages in your
ezine. I find it a little odd because i get about a third of my best
responses from ffa links. I think that proper use has more to do with
effectiveness than anything else. I am currently doing commercial web
design plus holding down a full time day job designing jewelry hence the
incomplete site I refer to above. When I get it complete it will link to
several example sites and some marketing tutorials as well. Please let
me know what you think.

5 Reasons Why Your Online Marketing Fails
by: Rafael Aguilo

You have found what you think is a great
product, or thought about a new service
that "everybody" needs. Your mental wheels
start spinning and soon you find yourself so
involved and convinced of your future riches,
that you jump right in, thinking that this is
a "no brainer".  No way you can fail.  Soon
you'll be the next Millionaire.  You don't even
bother to consult anyone. "Full Steam Ahead!"

You make your Website, admire your work of
art, register it with the Search Engines
and sit back. That should do it! Right?

Soon, you begin to wonder how long it will take
for the money to begin rolling in. People should
be beating a path to your Website, fighting for
the privilege of buying from you.

What Happened? NO SALES! -you say?

Why Don't People Buy From Me? - you ask?

The reasons may lie in one or more of these
Bad Marketing "Sins".

1. Did you Identify your TARGET MARKET,
and Can they AFFORD what you have to Offer?

In other words: Make sure you offer the
RIGHT Product or Service at the RIGHT Price
to the RIGHT People.

Case One:  Lets assume that you produced a  video
about  "How to improve your golfing technique."
It has valuable information, and golfers are sure
to benefit from it. Your price is "X". You decide
to put an ad in a software programmers newsletter
(they have thousands of readers, and they should
play golf, right? ),or you pay for a mass "Opt-In
EMailing"

Most likely result? Very low sales, if any.  Why?
The readership is TOO GENERAL.

Case Two: Same product, same price. You look
for the MOST likely people to be interested in
your product: GOLFERS. Can they AFFORD your product?
No Doubt. What would be the most likely venue to deliver
your sales message? A GOLF related publication, newspaper,
newsletter, etc.

Most likely result? You'll make plenty of sales.

But wait, you're not out of the woods yet.

2. Did you find out if the golfers WANTED to buy
that type of product? Did you do ANY kind of RESEARCH
first?

Let me explain. Lets say that the vast majority of
your prospects would rather buy your product
in a computer multimedia format (a CD ROM). That
way, they would have the advantage of applying
your techniques under actual conditions. They
would have the CD ROM loaded in their Laptop,
while practising in the field. But you have made
it available only on video.

Bummer! You find yourself with a stock of product
that nobody wants.

3. Did you make sure that the benefit(s) you promised
is(are) actually delivered by your product?

Is the product NEW, Exciting, One-Of-A-Kind? Or it's
just of a "Me-Too?", boring, "nothing new here" kind?

4. Let's say that you have done all of the
above the right way, and still, results SUCK,
BIG TIME!  What kind of sales message have you
delivered? Have you made your prospects WANT to buy?
Do they understand how your product will HELP THEM?

Remember that people buy what they WANT, and
not what they NEED! How many times have you
seen that? A deluxe pair of sneakers, a luxury
car, first class travel, pay-per-view
programming. All bought by people who WANT the
"benefits", real or imagined that these items give
them. It makes no difference there are other alternatives
that can fill their "needs" nicely.

5.  Last, but not least: Have you made it easy for people
to BUY from you?

Do they have to jump through hoops to order and pay for
the product? How many steps they have to go through?
The harder you make it for them to ORDER and Pay, the
Less Sales you'll have. Do you take Credit Cards, Checks, etc?

Remember: They are doing YOU a FAVOR when they buy from you;
not the other way around!

Make sure you don't commit these Bad Marketing Sins, and
you should enjoy good sales of your product or service.

GOOD LUCK!

======================Joke of the Day=====================
Joke provided by
Laurie Delk <delk@columbia.total-web.net>

Camping Trip

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip. After a good meal and
a bottle of wine, they were exhausted and went to sleep. Some hours later,
Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend.
"Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see."
Watson replied, "I see millions and millions of stars."
"What does that tell you?"
Watson pondered for a minute. "Astronomically, it tells me that there are
millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I
observe that Saturn is in Leo. Timewise, I deduce that the time is
approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, I can see that the lord
is all powerful and that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, I
suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?"
Holmes was silent for a moment, then spoke. "Watson, you idiot. Someone has
stolen our tent."
