From: Alan L. Hippleheuser <skiestheweb@skiestheweb.com>
Hello!
I wanted to share this success story while it is so fresh and so new.
As of this month, this success story will have an approximate return on
my dollar investment of $400 of about 2330% == that means I will receive
almost 23 times my initial investment, of course, not counting the 80 or
so hours it took me to build the website.
The website's name is www.anycreditmortgage.com. It is a place that
customers with stressed credit can find a mortgage for a new home or a
refinance. I have had over 1500 visitors and received over 50
applications in the last 5 weeks. That's INCREDIBLE for anyone in my
profession!
How did this start? Well, I have completed about 85% of my masters in
marketing from University of Chicago. My love of marketing and
communication gave me an intense desire to fnid a way to test out my
newly trained marketing ideas. Also, working out of my home and on
entrepreneurial ideas with my computer has been a dream for a long
time. I was trained in technical fields and also editor of my school
newspaper, so I picked up html relatively fast. I went out and bought
"HTML for Dummies" and "HTML Goodies" by Joe Burns as reference
guides.
The site was up and running in about 3 weeks.
Here are some things I have learned along the way: I bought an advice
guide from www. scrubtheweb.com on how to program the html code for Meta
tags. I believe this guide to have been invaluable. I can tell you
that about 90% of my visitors come from the search engines and in this
order:
Excite, Netscape, aol netfind, searchalot. A few visitors come from
lycos, alta vista and some others. Check out my listings -- I am in the
top 10 or 15 under "bruised credit" in most of these search engines. It
makes me wonder what would happen if I ever got listed in Yahoo. I have
submitted there twice and still have no listing (it has been six weeks
now).
There are several other tricks I have learned - follow up follow up and
follow up.
If you visit the site you will see it is a combination of factors that
work. In my business, good communication skills on the phone are what
really get you the deal. But the leads are impressive and amaizing in
their number and quality.
I was so impressed with this success, that I am starting a new site
called www.skiestheweb.com -- in conjunction with my experience that the
sky really is the limit on the internet. Skies the web, among other
things, offers the most competitive rates for web hosting, both virtual
and domain. It also offers a webmarketing course. In fact, you can
link to the scrubtheweb advice on meta tags product through my website.
It is my hope that in the next few months to make this an extremely
valuable resource on the net for newcomers -- to help them get up and
running with their web sites with the littlest time, the littlest cost
and the highest success. So come visit www.skiestheweb.com and let me
know what you need! We will try to provide it!
Thanks for this forum and I hope some of the ideas work for others in
every field but mortgages!

Des,
You will find there are Pros and Cons on the use of free classifieds.
Most free classifieds, in my opinion, are worth what you pay for
them.
However, there are some very good Free classified sites out there,
they are few in number. Following is a list of free classifed sites
that I have personally had good success with:

From: Bruce Ian Coy <minotaur@soltec.net>
Subject: Safe Lists
First, let me apologize for not answering your response to
my post in Adland #95 a few weeks ago. I have been buried
in work, as I guess most of us usually are. (One
parenthetical comment about quick, easy, riches: I've
noticed that most of the people involved in credible
programs to "get rich quick" show all the signs of
workaholics!)
Let me reiterate my original point: There are, no doubt,
spammers who pretend to have a legitimate connection with
you through a "Safe List" when no such connection exists.
This duplicity is the fault of the spammer, though, not of
the specific safe list that he cites as the connection, or
of safe lists in general. Spammers lie all the time about
where they got your name (and what their message is about,
etc., etc.) - you really can't blame third parties that are
mentioned in their lies. If you've never joined a safe list,
then that helps you to hit the "delete" button all the
faster.
As to your question about why I would want to be on a safe
list, I think that the same question was asked by Lori
Giuffre in Adland #96. Why join the list, if it's just a
bunch of people sending "all the old stuff" to each other,
over and over. We're all just going to hit the "delete"
button a thousand times, right? So what makes us think we
won't be deleted ourselves?
Well, you and Lori may be right. I'm willing to give it a
try because I look at all the posts myself - if it's "the
same old stuff", I delete it quickly; but, sometimes there's
something new and interesting. I've tried to set up a
method of posting that will give people a reason to want to
read my information each week. Some of the more thoughtful
members of the list do the same thing.
Finally, you ask how Dave Everett distinguishes "what is
spam what not", and the answer to that is simple. If people
have paid up their dues, they can post anything (within the
usual limits - no hate, porn, etc.), and he will mail it out
to the list members. It isn't spam because we've all agreed
to receive it. I might think that some of it's useless
clutter, but I can't complain that I've been spammed, if the
message was sent from "Dale Safe".
I can't argue the case for safe lists better than Dave
Everett himself, so anyone who is interested in looking into
the subject further should hit the autoresponder in my sig
file.

Hi Bogdan,
As you can only have limited room for site reviews in your
newsletter may I suggest to your readers an alternative
method. Just ask your web site visitors to offer their
comments.
I have written an article explaining a very effective way to
do this and at the same time promote your site and turn
those visitors into customers.

From: "Steve Parnell" <stevep@writeme.com>
Subject: Have you been posting ads and getting no response?
Have you been posting free classified ads and getting no response? Here are
a few things you should do.
1) Go to the last 3 sites where you have posted. Find your ad. If it
includes a link to your site, click on the link and see where it takes you.
If it does not go to your site, it is usually a result of manually typing
the URL in the ad. Use the copy and paste method instead ... if you are
unsure what this is, contact me and I will help you with it.
2) How many ads are you posting? Our top enrollers are posting from 100 to
150 ads per week. If you break that down over 5 or 6 days, that is 30 or
less ads per day. Posting ads once a week is usually not productive as you
never know when someone is going to be looking at ads to work at home.
3) Are you posting to Classified ad sites, FFA links, Ezines, Opt-in lists,
Newsgroups, and Search Engines? It takes a combination of all of the above.
Some people seem to have more replies from certain types of ads than others
.... experiment and see where you have the best response. Our top enrollers
represent all areas .... remember that the average person needs to see an ad
6 to 8 times before responding. You can find links to Free Classifieds,
FFA's, and Search Engines at: http://earnathome.hypermart.net/freeads.htm
The classified links have been screened and those that charge for business
ads have been eliminated (I hope!)
4) What headlines are you using? Remember, the headline must entice the
reader to look at your ad, just as the ad must entice the reader to click to
your website.
5) What categories are you posting your ads to? We recommend "Home
Business", Work at Home", "Business", "Internet Related" as
the best places
for your ads.
6) Don't fall into the trap of purchasing "Prime" or "Top of Page"
ads. It
is true that they stay at the top of the page, but our experience has been
that the Free ads produce just as well, particularly when they are used as
part of an ad program that includes all the resources listed in #3 above.
Readers like to scroll through a page and often miss the Top of Page ads,
assuming that those ads are the webmaster's way of advertising his or her
own favorite program.
The 3 keys to becoming successful (and staying that way) with an online
business are:
Use professionally written ads.
Post them consistently.
Repeat.

Note from Editor.
I usually don't try to take advantage of the fact that I publish this letter
and can voice my opinion to promote my business. But this time I need
to enter at this point because I think that point 6 in above posting is
totally misleading.
I like suggestions 1, 3, 4 and 5 though.
One of Adland's Classifieds feature is top-off the page advertising.
This type of promotion is main stream of revenue and I can tell from
my experience that this is only sure way to get inexpensive traffic.
I have advertisers who are renewing their orders before previous one
is over and they are asking me for more impressions per day.
Effectiveness of advertising on the top of the page or bottom or in ezines
is not dependent as much on positioning but on the quality of site and
targeting. Best positioning is not going to give you any results if visitors
coming to the site or section of it, are presented with banners or ads
having nothing to do with their interests.
I was already showing this previously and I'm going to show it again.
This advertisers CTR is 17% . Which means that for every 1000 impressions
his ad is getting 170 visitors.
http://www.adlandpro.com/BannerAdvStat.asp?rep=piyb3&days=20&page_id=3
and this advertiser CTR is about 5%
http://www.adlandpro.com/BannerAdvStat.asp?rep=cash&days=20&page_id=3
Now if you calculate how much you have to pay for this 170 visitors.
The price is about $7 and if one of this visitors buys products from you for
$10
you made $3.
This is the approach you should have. How much of your investment is coming
back and what is your profit.
You need tracking for your campaign and you need to test it in different places.

From: Marianne E. Payton< MPAYTON224@aol.com>
Subject: Which browser should I use
Hello Bogdan and Adlanders:
I have been reading with interest all of the good information given by the
members and have enjoyed all of it.
Now, I have a really important question. WHY do you see different when you use
Internet Explorer 5 in comparison with Netscape 4?
I built my complete website with IE5. This weekend I began experimenting with
Netscape 4 and all of a sudden, my website looks TERRIBLE! This has really
taken me for a loop....why do I see two different things? My banner, which I
really, really like appears to be damaged when I look at it through Netscape,
yet looks fine with IE5. There has to be a happy medium somewhere. Other
banners on my site appear damaged also. I really need someone to explain to me
what is happening. Is this something that happens all the time? I have my
banner out in a few different spots - in fact, one at Adland and Bogdan you have
to let me know if I have to change it. No one warned me that there would be
differences. I am still having a hard time believing it. Is there any remedy?
I haven't the slightest idea how to repair a banner. I had them made for me.
No wonder I get different reports from different people. Which is the accepted
browser? Or, as I assumed, everyone used their choice, but what about the
search engines and people who evaluate your sites? I received a very bad report
about bad links and banners and I had no idea where they were coming from. I
checked out all and found everything fine. Now, I am CONFUSED......H E L P.
You guys have many more years of experience than I - I think I have been on
about 7 months now and just found out about this. WHICH BROWSER SHOULD I
USE????
This is very frustrating after all of my work. Thank you for considering my
problem and hopefully someone can come up with an answer. Gee, I'm working on
page four, but now, I'll wait.
Keep up the good work Bogdan and all of you Adlanders out there.

The Importance of Promoting YOU On the Internet!
By Leon Brickey
Have you noticed the tremendous amount of information on the
internet about how to promote "your product," "your service,"
or "your opportunity?" It's incredible! Some of it is good solid
advice and some of it is pure trash. What I would like to discuss
here is the importance of promoting YOU on the internet. Not
your website, not your affiliate programs, etc?. YOU!
If you promote YOU your business is guaranteed to grow!
Here's the proof?.
Look at a few of the top online marketers. The ones we all
know the names of if we've been involved in internet marketing
for any length of time. Jim Daniels of bizweb2000, Jeffrey Lant
of Worldprofit, and Allen Says of the Internet Marketing Warriors
site are all quite well known in most internet marketing circles.
They have large mega websites, they all write articles for their
sites and ezines, they all have multiple business programs and
interests.
Besides these things what ELSE makes them stand out???
People know who THEY are!! They have a large following. Their
names are known more than their website's url in most instances.
The people who are involved in their programs or downlines feel
like they know them. When these guys join or start a new
associate program they bring hundreds if not thousands of
downline members with them right away.
How would you like to have influence over several hundred or
several thousand people who trusted your judgement enough
to want to be in business with you? What if you had a following
with such loyalty to you that if you told them all to start
selling?."Barbie dolls"; they would do it.
There are people in business who have that kind of credibility.
It's not a gift. It's earned! And if it's abused it will be lost forever.
Folks may forgive, but they rarely forget. If folks don't trust you
they just won't buy from you or get involved with you.
OK Leon, "so how do I promote myself as a credible person?"
Don't come across as someone trying to sell something just for
the sake of profit. If you will feely give help and advice as you
participate in message boards, discussion groups, and forums
you will gain a reputation as someone who is there to help others
to succeed! Believe me, you will definitely gain from this! Your
readers and business contacts will be MUCH MORE likely to buy
from you or join your programs if they see you as someone who
is honest, dependable, helpful, and open to suggestions. If they
see you as sarcastic and selfish; you may become successful to
a point, but it will eventually backfire by negative word-of-mouth
advertising.
As marketers, when our program isn't working as well as we would
like it to; we wonder what's wrong with the program? Instead of
wondering what's wrong with the program; look into why your
prospects don't believe your offer is as good as you say it is! If
you are marketing anonymously for some reason behind a fake
name and/or email address you have NO CHANCE to build credibility.
You may make some sales for a while, but eventually things will
fizzle-out on you.
I know there is some concern about using your real name or
address on the internet. If you are talking about a 15 year old
child in a chat room they definitely should NOT use their real
name or tell where they are. But as a business owner you've got
to have a name, phone number, email address, and mailing
address. Just that lends SO MUCH credibility. If you ran an
ad or article in a newspaper you would give contact info. If
you printed up business cards you would put contact info on
them wouldn't you? It's no different on the net. Just for the
record when I say contact info I'm not talking about only a
Hotmail email account. You need to use at least 2 sources
of contact and 3 is even better!
In addition to being as honest and sincere as possible, other
ways to promote yourself include testimonials, partnerships,
and personalization. When people are satisfied / happy with
you and your products, they will send you testimonials to thank
you. Show your appreciation by posting them on your site and
in your related publications! They will respect you even more
and are more likely to recommend you to their friends and
associates! Word-of-mouth advertising is a very effective way
to promote yourself so please take advantage of it.
Lastly, personalize your email/fax/letter communications with
other marketers as much as possible. Use sincere compliments
when replying to other marketers and include your name as much
as possible. When emailing offers, try to personalize the ad by
addressing it to your prospect by using his or her name, when
possible. This does not apply to broadcasting an ad to opt-in lists.
However it does apply to replies to business offers. A significant
percentage of my downline has came from personal contacts that
I have made during the time I have been marketing on the internet.
Thanks,
Leon Brickey

On this morning a woman and her baby were taking public
transportation. As she entered the bus the driver says "Wow
that is one ugly baby."
The woman deeply hurt just continued on the bus and found a
seat next to an elderly man. The man asks "What's wrong you
look mad?"
She replied "I am. That bus driver just insulted me."
"You shouldn't take that from him." the man replied. "He's
a public worker and should give you respect. If I was you I
would take down his badge number and report him."
"You're right sir I think I will report him."
The elderly man says, "You go on up there and get his badge
