Greetings All

Welcome  (120)  new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It seems like some of you received only subject part from last mailing of Adland
Digest Issue #112. I spotted the problem and quickly fixed it but I believe that
about 1000 of you didn't get it. I apologized for that .
Here you can see link to missed issue.
http://www.softfornet.com/archives/112.htm
There are very interesting reviews in it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently I had again few complaints that digest comes disorganized to some
subscribers. Since I wasn't able to simulate the problem, I'm going back to the
old way I used to send digest, which apparently didn't have the problem.
I would ask for feedback those who used to get this mailings either
double-spaced or disorganized and let me know if this is better.
The disadvantage of using of this older methods is that It is  harder to track
those who want to remove themselves from the list with the address which
wasn't used t o be subscribed.
Since header of the message doesn't contain email address of receiving party
I had  to use different tricks  to convince that  person to provide me with
her/his  other email addresses to see if this was it.
I had a case when one person was trying to unsubscribe herself for three months
after each  mailing with wrong email address till I developed  better method.
She wouldn't give me her other email address.

I also welcome any suggestions on  good list software which  would allow on
attaching of subscriber email address to the message, had possible interface
to  databases e.g. through ODBC , good anti-spamming defense mechanism
and be capable of handling larger subscriber  list.

I am searching for reviews on internet marketing courses, free and
paid and internet marketing books.  I would appreciate any reviews
anyone has and will exchange a free link if I post their review on my
site at www.skiestheweb.com. I would like to know:

As far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong), I own the only
Internet Marketing Training Website that offers a free and
COMPLETE  Internet Marketing Course, that is geared towards
newbies, and that teaches the basics free. No bait and switch, is
loaded with free reference materials that are off the beaten path,
and offers a combination of viewpoints from many experts in the
field. It's all based on the "learn at your own pace" format.

I used the SAME material to learn, and use it on an everyday basis.

Yes, I offer other courses, in what can be considered as higher
education or next step, to those who are really serious about
increasing their knowledge.

The comments I've received so far are encouraging, and tell me that
it's going in the right direction. Some have gone as far as telling me
that I must be crazy by putting "all this material" FREE.

It's my purpose to make this site, the FREE Training Site of choice
for the person that wants to start learning Internet Marketing FREE,
and without the turn-off of high pressure sales tactics.

Membership, as well as the course are FREE.

All are invited to review and join.

Subject: List of discussion boards, moderated groups and more

Hello Bogdan and Adlanders!

While visiting my favorite discussion board tonight, (Wanda
Loskot's "Success Connection: Referrals Unlimited"
http://www.loska.com/successconnection/discussion/ ) I found
a fantastic list of discussion boards, moderated newsgroups, and
mailing lists for small businesses on Dien Rice's Entrepeneur Web:
http://www.entrepreneur-web.com/index_1.htm#discussionboards

I had to pass this along to you because it is so comprehensive
and includes so many things that the Netpreneur can use, and
it isn't all bogged down with Affiliate Programs and "fluff".

I also wanted to respond to Alan's question on reviews wanted.

While he doesn't sell what a lot of others consider "internet marketing
courses" per se, Peter Kent's Poor Richard series are the best books
I have found to teach you everything you need to know to market your
site on the Internet.  I have done a review on my site of Peter's
book "Poor Richard's Internet Marketing and Promotions : How to Promote
Yourself, Your Business, Your Ideas Online (Poor Richard's Series)"
No hype - just jam-packed with ideas and links to resources, he also
maintains pages that contain all the links in the books at his
web site which he updates frequently, making the value of these books
go on and on!

If you would like to use this review, Alan, you can find it at:
http://www.recruit2hire.com/internet-mktg.html .  Of course I
would appreciate a link to my site  :)

Bogdan, I thought you would also like to know (if you didn't
already *smile*) that Brian Garvin has Adlands' Digest listed
right up there with LinkExchange Digest on his List of Popular
Discussion Groups page at:
http://www.garvinweb.com/discussion_groups.shtml    Though
personally, I think Adland is better than LE <grin>

Take care everyone!  Thanks for sharing all your great ideas
here!

Best regards,
Terri Robinson

Subject: The Best Method Of Increasing Traffic

The Best Method Of Increasing Traffic

There seems to be alot of hype out there lately about what actually is the
best method of creating traffic to your web site. Most people who try to
make themselves out as an authority on the subject seem to be divided
between those who claim to manipulate search engines and those who are
supporters of opt-in mailing lists.

To begin with, we have to face the fact that search engines aren't all that
great, and anyone who tells you that the appropriate meta takes will get you
listed in the top 10 of any one search engine (much less 5 or 10 like some
people claim) is filling you full of hot air. Most of the larger search
engines to utilize the latest data-base technologies, but the thinking that
goes into their programming just isn't innovative enough for keeping up with
a something that changes as constantly as the internet.

Opt-in mailing list are a good idea, and will give you some degree of repeat
visitors, but unless you already have a considerable amount of traffic to
your site to begin with, you will find that it takes longer than you
anticipated to build a quality mailing list. Many people find that they only
get enough new subscribers to replace the addresses that become invalid, so
they really aren't growing at all even though the numbers would indicate
otherwise.

I have found the best method of increasing site traffic significantly is to
offer something for free, and then use classifieds to announce what you are
giving away. The best way would be to find something that can be associated
with your site, so as to generate quality traffic of people who will
hopefully explore the rest of your site rather than just grabbing the gift
and leaving. For example, on my site, the CasinoNow Gaming Resource Center,
I give away two free items. The most popular is a free cd of casino style
games, and the other is a free issue of Casino Player Magazine. Alot of
people do come to my site just for these free items (which cost me
absolutely nothing to give away), but they are also from targeted groups who
display an interest in the subject of Casino Gaming, and are therefore
perfect for my site.

Another method you can use is giving these as prizes for joining your opt-in
list as an incentive to join. For example, while the free cd I give away can
be claimed by any visitor, you must join my mailing list in order to get the
magazine. Provided that the gift you are giving away is something that can
be related to the content of your site, this will help you keep a high
quality list of people who you know have an interest in your product, as
opposed to having a low quality list of random surfers who joined the list
and never return to your site again.

Keeping this in mind, and integrating it into your future market strategies
should help you increase traffic on every level, from initial visitors, to
return visitors, to those who will actually visit you sponsors or purchase
your goods/services. The real key is to giving them something that your
targeted demographic would want. This could be a tangible item that you mail
to them, or it could be an interactive feature such as video games, movies,
or music that they can access for free from your site. Just remember, no one
can turn away a free item, and they will have to go to your site to claim it
(and isn't getting them there what it's all about?), and it will leave a
positive, lasting impression of your company in their minds, and even if
they don't purchase anything themselves they will most likely refer your
site to a friend.

Subject: Japanese site needs feedback

Sir/Madam

I have just received an email reply from a Mr Bob Cortez  after asking him
how I should go about getting a Web review done on the site that I have made
for my company.
He suggested I write to you and ask for my site to be reviewed.  My job here
at NASPA is to increase the number of non-Japanese guests coming to our
hotel, hot springs and ski resort.  The Web site address is
www.naspa.co.jp/english .  The resort is upmarket and the target market is
mainly expatriate businessmen and their familites living in Tokyo and the
surrounding regions - we are very well located just 70 minutes from central
Tokyo.  In Japan, there are few country resorts in the mountains that are
English-speaking friendly, and so that is a point that we wish to
emphasize - there are also very few ( if any ) comprehensive English
language resort sites in the country.

I am particularly interested in opinions on the general design of the site -
navigation, ease of use, graphical contnet and download time - and any ways
that the site could be improved in these areas.  If a review was done on the
site I would be extremely grateful.

I hope that you will be able to either do a review or let me know of someone
who would be able to provide such a service.

Many thanks

Hi Adlanders!

As with many others, we love our Adland Digest.  We started our Internet
learning curve 2 months ago and have been sitting on kitchen chairs in
front of our little screen for anything up to 10 hours a day, 7 days a
week and to be able to read other newbie problems and sucesses has been
one of the great reliefs!!!  We now have our website up and running, ads
placed all over the place, all with autoresponders, but we seem to get
mostly spammers, is this the norm?  Could someone please review our site
http://www.moneyearner.com as we are starting to get some traffic, but
few conversions.  We are desperate for some constructive advice as our
initial excitement is fading fast, someone please throw us a rope!! -
(but not to hang ourselves with!)

Looking forward to your response.

Hi Guys,

I would be incredibly grateful if you could review my site at

which I have just re-vamped after reading all the great info in this
newsletter.
I believe I offer a unique service, unparalleled on the net.  I personally
find guys a match for only $100 as opposed to computer matching or expensive
agency matching.
My site also has many. many pages of useful information from a guide to
finding love on the net to a guy's guide to women and shyness, etc etc...

Many thanks

How To Prepare Your Battle Plan
By John Colanzi

Your business should be planned like a well thought out battle.
If you haven't got your plan in place you'll suffer casualties.
You won't suffer loss of life, but you will suffer losses of money,
time and missed opportunity!

Just as the well honed warrior prepares for all possible occurrences,
you must be prepared to last through the slow times, and be just
as prepared to capitalize on the times when it appears you can do
no wrong.

The first step on your march to the flag is to decide who you are.
In the immortal words of Shakespeare, "In brief sir, study that which
you most affect."

Know your strengths and know your weaknesses. You'll never
be truly successful until you've first made an inventory of your-
self. You can study all the How-To's and you may even make
money, but to be truly be successful you must have your Why-
To's in place.

Once you've decided who you are and listed your strengths and
weaknesses, the next step is to determine how much money
you have for your war chest.

Only use money you can afford to lose. As any professional
trader or championship gambler will tell you, "Scared money
never wins!"

Don't mortgage your house or max-out your credit cards because
you've got the million dollar sure-fire winner. You'll be so busy
worrying, you won't be able to think clearly.

Take money you won't miss and test-test-test. Your thinking
will be much clearer and when your testing finally hits on a
winning formula you'll be ready to capitalize.

When you've got your winning formula, you should pyramid
your profits to expand your business. A minimum of 50%
of your profits should go back into your business in the first
6 months. If you're only been using money you can live
comfortably without, you should place 100% back into marketing,
you'll have plenty of time to enjoy your victory!

The final step in your battle plan is to keep a log book.Just
as generals study battles from the past and chess players
study strategies from the old masters, you must begin your
own manual.

Don't rely on your memory!!

In your manual keep every advertising campaign you've waged.
Be as detailed as possible. What worked and what hasn't. Key
your ads to determine where your profits are coming from.

Test media used, actual ads and sells letters etc. Sculpt your
business. If your business is based on profits, the best way to
insure profits is the same way you'd carve an elephant out
of granite. "Remove everything that's not an elephant!"

This is article is just to get you started. The only person who
can guarantee your success is you.

In the immortal words of  Ali, "WEEEEEEEE, MEEEEEEEE!!"

Wishing You Success,
John Colanzi

======================Joke of the Day=====================
Joke provided by
Darryl A. Warriner <admin@dragonflymarketing.com>

President Clinton finished his time on Earth and approached the
Pearly Gates of Heaven.

"And, who might you be?" inquired St. Peter.

It's me, Bill Clinton, formerly the President of the United
States and Leader of the Free World."

"Oh, Mr. President!  What may I do for you?" asked St. Peter.
"I'd like to come in," replied Clinton.
"Sure," said the Saint. "But first you have to confess your sins.
What bad things did you do in your life?"

Clinton bite his lip and answered, "Well, I tried marijuana,
but you can't call it 'dope-smoking' because I didn't inhale.  There
were inappropriate extramarital relationships, but you can't call it
'adultery' because I didn't have full 'sexual relations.'
And I made some statements that were misleading but legally accurate --
you can't call it 'bearing false witness' because, as far as I
know, it didn't meet the legal standard of perjury."

With that St. Peter consulted the Book of Life briefly, and
declared,
"OK, here's the deal.  We'll send you somewhere hot, but we
won't call it 'Hell.'  You'll be there indefinitely, but we won't
call it 'eternity.' And when you enter you don't have to 'abandon
all hope', just don't hold your breath waiting for it to freeze over."
