Subject: Reviews on internet marketing courses
Hi Bogdan and Adlanders:
In Issue #112 ,
Alan <skiestheweb@skiestheweb.com>writes:
"I have a question you might want to post in the
newsletter: I am searching for reviews on internet
marketing courses, free and paid and internet
marketing books. I would appreciate any reviews
anyone has and will exchange a free link if I post
their review on my site at www.skiestheweb.com. I
would like to know:
1) cost of program
2) effectiveness -- did it help you become successful?
3) Personal opinion and how it helped or didn't help
4) Recommendations"
Make Your Site Sell (http://www.sitesell.com/solution.html)
is the best value in marketing manuals today. At less
than $18US/$25CAN, with a free lifetime-no questions
asked-moneyback guarantee, you can't lose.
The author's credentials are spectacular. Ken Evoy is
a doctor, marketer and entrepreneur. He has had fabulous
success selling to a niche market. He is tremendously
respected by his affiliates and colleagues.
Ken's customers obviously love Make Your Site Sell too.
The testimonials come from college professors,
entrepreneurs, webmasters and start-ups. The consensus?
Ken is a great guy with a great program. I have had a
couple of opportunities to exchange e-mails with Ken.
He has personally and quickly answered every e-mail I
have sent.
I saw an immediate increase in hits to my site when I
implemented just a few of the ideas in Ken's book. The
best part is how easy it has been to translate many of
the ideas into my contract business. I have two new
clients I attribute to improvements I made because of
this program.
The electronic Make Your Site Sell manual has an extensive
help and navigation section. It is in Adobe Portable
Document Format, so any operating system can read it with
Adobe's free reader. There is a dynamite program newsletter
to keep you up-to-date on new ideas.
Skeptics can download a sample chapter for free. I have
always believed that try before you buy is a sign of someone
who knows you will want their product. Since you get an
actual portion of the manual, it is easy to determine
exactly the type of end product you will get if you purchase.
The program focuses on finding a niche and marketing to
it. While the program can work for anyone, its strength
is in helping the user customize their marketing for their
business. This isn't a One-Size-Fits-All program, it is
a Common-Thread program. Make Your Site Sell is adaptable.
It works with anything you want to sell on the web.

Subject: Dilemma - What to do??
Hi Bogdan and Fellow Adlanders,
I have spent almost two years learning the rules of etiquette,
marketing and promotion on the Internet. Often, I feel like I
will never learn all there is to know --- which is ok --- I really
do enjoy learning. I also enjoy helping other people which
is a major reason why I decided to add a Newsletter to my
website back a few months ago. I knew it would be hard
work but didn't really expect what has taken place. (You
need to know that I write my own articles in order to have
fresh content & give my own perspective on subjects. I also
am only doing this part-time in hopes that someday I can
do it full-time).
I have had many wonderful and encouraging comments from
my subscribers but of course every once in a while I get a
nasty or offensive comment (Goes with the territory - You
can't please everyone all of the time). I have learned to take
the good with the bad and try to remember that not everyone
in this world is nice, honest or sensitive to others. In fact,
from what I have seen on the Net many can be outright rude
and capable of flipping out much more easily than in the real
world where you would have a more direct one-on-one contact.
I am assuming that what has happened to me has happened
to many others - especially seasoned veterans of the Net -
what I need to know is how to deal with it - professionally and
personally. Here is the story......
Around the first of July a new subscriber sent me a request for
information on a program that I am involved in. Of course, I sent
out the info and have followed up a few times. Just yesterday he
sent me some questions about the program and included a Brand
New signature file. In his signature file he is using a large amount
of my logo for my newsletter and two ads that I have used in the
newsletter. One of the ads is verbatim, while the other is just one
line (verbatim) of the ad. The portion of my Newsletter Logo is not
quite verbatim - one word has been changed.
My Newsletter Logo is "At Home Working News" Your Doorway to
Joining the Work-At-Home Revolution.
He is using: "At Home Working NOW" is Your Doorway to Joining
the Work-At-Home Revolution. When I asked about his usage of
my materials this is what he had to say about my newsletter logo:
"I USE AT HOME WORKING "NOW" SO THAT
THOSE I CORRESPOND WITH WILL KNOW THEY CAN CONTACT ME "NOW"
pLEASE PARDON ANY SIMILARITY.
NO OFFENSE INTENDED."
And yes, that is a direct copy and paste from the e-mail he sent me.
He was rather rude - typed in all caps and acted as if I had no right to
question the usage of my own material and even told me to,
"COOL IT! WE ARE IN BUSINESS TO
AID EACH OTHER IN SUCCESS, NOT TO
MAGNIFY OUR PRIDE AND EXHIBIT OUR
COVETOUSNESS. MAY THE LORD BLESS
THE BEST IN ALL" (Another direct copy & paste from his email)
I have seen and heard a lot lately about others just taking material that
does not belong to them - completely ignoring copyrights and all!!!
This is distressing to me! I have worked long and hard to get where I am
and to come up with good ad copy, logos, & original content. The logo
for "At Home Working News" took me quite awhile to come up with.
As many of you may know it is not easy to build a good reputation &
have all your content be honest, decent and attractive. So to a certain
degree I am taking this very personally.
I get many requests for help from people I don't know and I have gladly
given the best info that I can to these people to help them - I have even
written ad copy for some (completely free of charge) just to help get
them started on the Net. But this to me is outright thievery and then
a complete denial of the entire matter.
Please note that his request for more info was in the form of direct
questions. Namely, if he should join the program would I be able to
supply him with effective ad copy or would he have to do it himself.
He also wanted to know how dedicated I would be to seeing to it that
he had a positive cash flow.
That just seemed to add insult to injury for me since he had already
helped himself to my materials anyway.
I gladly help people that are not even involved in a program that I am in
- I like helping people..... but to have this happen --- so blatant --- a
person with no consideration for other's hard work and basically asking
for everything to be done for them - as if they deserve the right to sit
back and do little to nothing while someone else does all the work for
them.....
I would really like to hear other's thought's on this type of thing as well
as hearing how other's have dealt with this type of situation - not just
professionally but on a personal & emotional level as well.
Thank You
Betty Ann Wilkins, Publisher/Webmaster

From: Albert Rios <aurios@email.msn.com>
Subject: Winning, totally changed my mind about affiliate
Hello,
I just found a site that totally changed my mind about affiliate
programs at http://www.activemarketplace.com/store/4671
I literally just "stumbled" onto this whole referral or affiliate
program thing, and freely admit I didn't have a clue to what it
is all about. Indeed, the little I'd seen was negative, given
the fact that at pay rates of 0.05 or so on clicks, the whole
effort seemed fruitless. I'd just disregarded the whole issue.
BUT THEN I started reading real stories of people who are making
money with affiliate programs. Right now, thousands are
profiting with affiliate programs, people who are no smarter
than you are, no more experienced, but who seem to know exactly
what to do.
They have discovered how to turn their Web traffic into sales,
and to generate enough traffic to get those sales.
When a seriously important thought or revelation happens,
I get that "feeling" on my neck... I knew I had to investigate
this further!
I read this book and understand what it takes not only
to generate sales, but repeat business. There is
absolutely no other, comprehensive marketing system
online like this.
It is not just the big companies that are profiting with
affiliate programs; many small Web Sites are making a living,
and profiting, by quickly testing what products they can move and
building their list of customers.
You won't read about these folks on the front page of Wired, but
you can find out about them, and much more at:
http://www.activemarketplace.com/store/4671
It really is worth the visit.
Sincerely,
Albert Rios
----------------------------------------------------------------
P.S. Here's a quote at the site from a small business:
"I just sold 360 books from my Web Site. Your techniques helped
me use my Web Site to sell books without a publisher. I want to
thank you for helping me share my father's story." Joey Korn,
Editor, Abe's Story--Georgia.

*Most* Online Entrepreneurs Are Failing!
...Simply
Because They Don't Know THIS:
(c) 1999, Dale Armin Miller
People always ask me, "What kinds of webpage presentations work
best?" And "How do I go about making the best banner?" "What
ads make the most money?" "Which press releases generate the
most traffic?"
I always answer, "The ones written backwards." They always
scream at me.
"What the hell does that mean!?!"
I calm them down and explain:
First, you need to find a large group of people that you know
you can get your webpage, ad, sign, TV commercial, banner, press
release in front of ... repeatedly ... for very low cost.
(They're all over the place; just pick one.)
Now, consider this group of people. What are they like? What are
their fears, desires, hopes? In short, what do they want?
Next, even if you don't need an ad, write an ad for it.
"An ad about what?!"
Telling them what they want.
"They already know what they want!"
Well, then, this is going to be easy: All you have to do is tell
them that you've got it!
"Got what? Where did I get it? I'm not even sure exactly
what it IS."
Precisely: You only discover exactly what it is while you're
writing.
"Are you drunk?"
Now you're being forward!
"I guess I didn't mean to be."
But I want you to try being BACKWARD.
And you do that by starting to write about what will excite your
audience, about what will ease their fears or fulfill their
needs. Make them salivate. Forget the grammer, ignore the
spelling; just write from enthusiasm. Not much more than a first
draft, mind you; but keep writing until the idea is so specific
that you're *certain* you don't have it.
"You're obviously GIVEN medication -- you're just not
SWALLOWING."
And make sure your copy is so exciting that even *you* want it.
Because then you're motivated enough to go out and find it, buy
it, join it, invent it, write it, make it, hire someone to do
that, ... or discover that you really had it all along, Toto.
(If none of that is possible, then start over again on another
idea about a different subject. Hence, "not much more than a
first draft.")
So, now you have an 'it' -- your Ultra-Web-Widget 9000, an
Employment-Opportunities-For-Hamsters Site, "Nuclear Arms
Negotiating For Dummies," or whatever. And you have the first
draft of your copy about it.
NOW you can maximize your copy's impact using benefit
translation, power phrases, branding, closing, repetition,
graphics, and all the rest.
But, as long as you began your idea "backwards," it will
actually be hard for you to not make some money from it. (I
know that it's made me a millionaire twice, and it's proving
itself again, now on the web.)

I just use IE5-if you put the emails in your address book-under a
group-like Adland subscribers-then you can easily put any amount of
people in there-the in the To column put just yourself-and the group
into the bcc column-this way people cannot "grab" the others emails.
Personally-I have not had any problems at all with any of your emails.
:)
If it is just double-spaced-that doesn't sound like a big enough problem
to complain about.

Site was VERY slow to load (I have a very fast cable modem also). ALOT
of the pictures never came through-just the little X's. I would put all
your awards on a separate page-with a text link in your column for
awards we have won. Same with all the banners-too many-pick 1 or 2 for
your front page-put all the others on different pages throughout the
site. Other than that I guess it sounds good if that is what someone is
looking for.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
<http://sites.netscape.net/mrjonz43/readitandreap>
LinkExchange html was showing on the site. I would make you font a
little smaller- and paragraphs-not ALL one HUGE thing. Your HTML and
TITLE tags are showing at the bottom of the page! Make sure you have
your brackets all there and end them. < > Also use <br> to end a
line-and use <p> to end a line-and leave a space. Once again too many
affiliate programs on 1 page-link to them on another page-or use several
pages with different info-to spread out your banners.
P.S. I did the exact program once-through the mail-for $10 gift-never
got anything.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
<http://www.apimage.com/>
Page looks GREAT! Loads fast-although it still has you scroll down-and
there is nothing down there-not sure why on that. But looks good! Should
get results if people are looking for that!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
<http://www.moneyearner.com/>
You have 6 or more different money making programs on your site-but the
way you have it worded it sounds like you are only talking about 1 great
thing. I would use horizontal lines to talk about each different
program-or use tables or something. The site design and colors
compliment each other-I like that alot. Good luck! P.S. I am already in
a few of the programs you offer-and I have not made a dime off them!
But-I just have them as links within my pages-I am not actively
promoting them. :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

WOW! This page looks GREAT! Everyone needs to see it-even if you are not
interested! they designed it REALLY well! This web designer is jealous!
Congrats! Plus, it did interest me because my father was an Air force
Sgt. when I was little and I was raised the first 3 1/2 years of my life
in Okinawa! My husband has always been fascinated in my dads stories of
our life in Japan-and he has always wanted to go there to visit! So I
have bookmarked this page! I also joined your list! :)

Dear Friends,
Our site www.kitto.com is selling three beautifully illustrated
original children's books. I believe one has to give to the customer us
much as one can and our site surely represents this belief. We have
modest traffic: an average of 150 visitors a week, but no sales at all.
There got to be a reason for this, for there is a reason for everything.
I just can't put my finger on it. If you could just glance at the site
and tell me what do you think is our problem. Your advice is greatly
appreciated.
Kind regards,

What Does YOUR Business Pay YOU To Do?
By Leon Brickey here.
I'v been working online now for about 19 months. During that time
there have been periods when I was pleased with my business' growth
and there have been periods when I have been Not so pleased with my
business' growth. In fact at times I've felt like I was stuck in quicksand!
During those times I have always found myself going back to this
thought?.What does my business pay me to do?
If YOU are a small home business owner you are the CEO/Owner of
your business. But it also means you are more than likely the accounting
department, personnel director, marketing department, purchasing
director, complaint department, and the maintenance department. As
you can see it would be very easy to become distracted and lose focus
when faced with all these demanding responsibilities. The fact is that
there are dozens of things that come up on a daily basis in business
to distract you and slow you down. This is an easy trap to fall into.
What I want to discuss is what your business pays you to do.
Most small businesses, home businesses, MLM businesses pay
you to do only a couple things:
1) Sell your product or service.
2) Bring people into the business and help them get started selling
and bringing in associates/distributors just like you are.
THAT'S IT!
Those are the only one or two things you actually get paid to do.
Those things DIRECTLY make you money!
Wouldn't it be nice if that was ALL we had to spend our time doing?
Unfortunately there are lots of other things you need to do that your
business does NOT pay you for directly.
1) Making copies.
2) Returning phone calls and emails.
3) Designing and updating webpages.
4) Going to training and meetings.
5) Writing sales letters, press releases, and articles.
6) Faxing.
7) Publishing a newsletter.
8) And many more!
All these things are necessary but they don't pay you directly.
These things earn you money indirectly. Right? If your business is
web designing or writing copy these activities pay you directly.
Otherwise they fall into the indirect category.
As a small business owner you will soon see that time is your
greatest "luxury" and your worst "enemy." You just can't be
everything to everybody. There are only 24 hours in a day, only
seven days a week, and only ONE of you! You have to spend
your time wisely or your business will "bog down" and come to
a screaching hault. In other words?you will FAIL.
So how do I control all this madness and spend my time as I
should Leon?
1) Unless you have a true emergency spend 75% of your worktime
for each day doing only what your business pays you DIRECTLY
for doing.
a) Sell your product or service.
b) Bring people into the business and help them get started selling
and bringing in associates/distributors just like you do.
This means advertise, Advertise, ADVERTISE!
Many of you may have already heard this little story about the guy who
was interviewing Ted Turner (billionaire, Turner Broadcasting Network).
The guy asked Ted his secret to success in so many words. Ted replied:
"Early to bed and early to rise. Work like hell and advertise!"
Advertise.
Enough said.
2) Keep this list of things limited to NO MORE than 25% of your
worktime for that day.
a) Making copies.
b) Returning phone calls and emails.
c) Designing and updating webpages.
d) Going to training and meetings.
e) Writing sales letters, press releases, and articles.
f) Faxing.
g) Publishing a newsletter.
h) All those other little things.
You can cut corners on a few of these things. Here are some quick suggestions:
a) Ask a family member or pay the kid next door to make some copies
for you. Your time is more valuable than that. You just need to check
them for accuracy.
b) Get voice mail or an answering machine for your phone. Return business
calls at a designated time every day (ie. From 3:30 to 4:00 pm daily return
phone calls). Make brief notes to make sure you ask all you need to know.
Keep it brief, polite, and professional.
Email: You may or may not agree with this but it's the only way I can exist.
If I don't recognize the name or subject title?"poof" it's gone. I get hundreds
of classified and link confirmations every day as well as hundreds of pieces
of spam daily. I CAN'T; nor do I WANT to read all this stuff. My ads, ARs,
salesletters, etc. are all coded till I can pick them out of the spams and
confirmations. I can also easily pick out the ezines and the discussion
lists I receive. Also, unless I work very late into the night the morning email
download is by far the biggest. I boot up start to download email and go
take a shower. No need to set there and watch 279 emails download. :-)
Do your first email download of the day while you are doing something
else offline or away from the computer.
c) Webpage designing and updating are a must. It doesn't take all day
to make a few changes or put together a new page. Unless you are doing
an html ezine or something that requires updating daily; a couple hours a
week should be enough once your site is initially built. Building a large site
from scratch is a different story. :-)
d) Training and meetings. If your business requires person to person
training that's fine. Not much of a way to get around that. Meetings are
not an issue with 100% online businesses usually. However, if your
business opportunity is also offline you very well may have to deal
with weekly meetings. It's always a chore to have to go these every week,
but you need to go as much as you can. It keeps you motivated and
proves you're a serious leader to your downline. If you have a guest
attending the meeting or downline members attending the meeting
you OWE it to them to be there. Otherwise..?your call.
e) Writing sales letters, press releases, and articles. Try to write
these on a regular basis. Read over them over and over again aloud
to yourself. Fine tune them. These are a very, very serious tool. If
you are terrible at it contact Dr. Kevin Nunley. He's excellent and
well worth it! Just for the record I'm not affiliated with Dr. Nunley,
just a fan. To pay $65, $75, or even $100 for a really good sales letter
is NOTHING. It will be worth many times more than that to your
business I assure you. It's just the "cost of doing business" if you
need the help.
f) Faxing can usually be done from home or office now so it
isn't a "biggie" usually; unless your business involves lots of faxing.
If you don't fax from home try not to have to make a "special trip" out
of the house to do your faxing. Do it while you are out to the post
office, grocery store, or something like that.
g) Publishing a newsletter. Newsletters/ezines are GREAT! But
unless you SELL your ezine it indirectly makes you money. A
good ezine takes some time and thought on a regular basis. MAKE
A TEMPLATE for your ezine. You can then just copy and paste your
articles, special offers, and classifieds into the template and "boom"
you are done. If I've got my articles picked out for my ezine I can put
it together from start to finish and send it out in less than 2 hours.
And that's not rushing carelessly.
If you want to increase your income DO WHAT YOUR BUSINESS
PAYS YOU TO DO!
Thanks,
Leon Brickey

======================Joke of the Day=====================
Joke provided by
Laurie Delk <delk@columbia.total-web.net>
"What is Sex?"
A little girl ran out to the backyard where her father was working, and asked
him,
"Daddy, what's sex?"
Like a good father, he sat her down, and told her all about the birds and the
bees.
He told her about conception, sexual intercourse, sperms and eggs etc...
He also told her about puberty, menstruation, erections, wet-dreams...
His daughter was somewhat awe struck with this sudden influx of bizarre new
knowledge.
Noticing her puzzled look, he asked, "So what did you want to know about sex
for?"
His little girl replied, "Oh, mummy said lunch would be ready in a couple of
secs..."
