There are many ways of placing ads for your site. Since you are receiving
this newsletter, I am assuming that you have already taken advantage of
adlands free classified service. There are other classified services as well
that you can find listed in search engines, but I have yet to find one that
places your ad on as many sites as adland. I think we all owe them a big
thanks for the service they provide.

Another method you may want to use is opt-in list. Try going to
http://www.egroups.com and performing keyword searches on words such as
advertising, marketing, promotion, etc. You will find literally hundreds of
opt-in lists that you can join, many of which have 1,000+ subscribers.

What's the catch? Well, actually, there are two. First of all, in order to
get your ad displayed to the maximum number of people you will have to be a
member of as many lists as possible. This means that you could easily have
your mailbox filled with hundreds of ads per day. This problem is easy
enough to get around though. You can subscribe using a different email
address other than your normal one, which would make it easier to keep the
ads seperate from regular mail. Another thing to do is when subscribing to
the list, change the option from individual emails to daily summary. That
way each group you are subscribed to will send you one message per day,
listing all of the subjects, with links you can use to read the ones you
want.

The other big problem with this method is that even though your message will
be mailed to thousands of people, there is no way to really know if anyone
is reading it. Some people on the list are there because they want to
receive business opportunities by mail, and they will read your ad. However,
the vast majority of people that receive your message are only in the group
so that they can send out messages, and will delete all ads without even
opening them.

Overall this is still a new form of advertising for me, and even though it
seems to be a good idea I am not sure how effective it is. I would love to
hear some feedback from others who have more experience with these groups,
as to what their experiences were and if they were able to achieve
substantial traffic from the lists.

Thank you,

Jerry Garner

HI Bogdan and Adlanders,

In answer to Judith`s question about a way to take
payments on the web easy for buyers they can go to
ckickbank and use their services as they don`t charge to
setup and only take a small percentage of the money they collect.
The url is: http://www.clickbank.com
I won`t do a site review as I don`t feel I am qualified to do so.

Hi Bogdan:
First let me say thanks for having such a great newsletter.  It gives one great
peace of mind when you see all of the effort put out by both yourself and your
subscribers to help others succeed in this place we affectionately call the
"WEB"

I know you mentioned that we should not request a site review until our site is
fairly presentable, so I will not ask for that now, but I did want to reply to
the
inquiry from Judith Tramayne Barth, trabar@trabar.com  Judith requested
information on how her group may be able to sell their products on the web
with little expense.  Our site offers completely FREE fully E-Commerce
capable web pages to those that can author How To information.

I know most people's first response is that I'm not an author, but we are not
promoting professionally written books.  We are promoting Fun and Informative
articles that are short, to the point and useable.
Anyone that has a unique skill set or service that they provide, with a little
bit of thought, can create a simple How To article outlining a specific task
to be accomplished.

Our site is located at www.celebrityhowto.com it specializes in bring FREE, Fun
and Informative How To information to the web surfer.  The web surfer enters our
site, selects their area of interest, selects the author they would like to
receive information from, sees the articles from the author, then selects the
article of their choice, then views the article completely FREE of charge.

The author's  web page will:
- describe them / their business / their services
- list their articles.
- list frequently asked questions and answers
- display the products they sell.
- list their 5 favorite web sites. A great way
to promote your other sites, or link to similar information.
- have it’s own unique URL (Unique Resource Locator) address
they can give out to friends, family or future customers. We will
also be promoting every author’s web page.

This costs the author absolutely nothing, other than the time for them to write
some simple articles or a list of frequently asked questions.

The site is in somewhat of a beta form, used to display to prospective author's
what we  have to offer them.  We hope to be in full production mode early this
fall.

This seemed to be a good fit for Judith, so  I thought I would reply at this
time.

I hope this can be of help to Judith or anyone else within your subscribers that
are looking for a very inexpensive way to promote themselves, their business
or the products they sell.

Talk to you soon!

Subject: I'm auctioning off my website!

Hi there,

I have been lurking in this list for a while, and I finally feel that I
have something to contribute.  I am the CEO of Seet Venture Capital Group
(http://www.seet.com) that offers venture resources for individuals
without business plans, but with great ideas for Internet startups.

Recently we have been aiding one of our newest ventures "bidXS
Meta-Auctions" (http://www.bidxs.com) penetrate the market.  bidXS
searches all the major auction sites for the item that the user seeks - a
free service that has high demand.  The response has been fantastic,
particularly from bulletin board postings.

So I was thinking - who are the people who would use bidXS?  They
are the same people who use the auction sites, so what better place to
advertise than directly in front of them!  So that is what we are doing.
Well, of course Ebay et al. does not allow direct advertising, so we are
selling off bidXS for a very reasonable $3 Million, at the same time
garnering exposure for our site.  We also feel that this would make a
great story for any press that choose to cover it.

Hello Bogdan,

As an avid reader of the digest I have learn't a considerable amount on
internet marketing techniques and have tried many of the ideas put forward
by Adlanders, I have managed to get my traffic up to about 200 per day and
still climbing, but no sales.

I have spent, like most people, many long hours and late nights developing &
modifying my site to attract visitors and get them to spend money but to no
avail.

I would appreciate a site review by the seasoned knowledgable adland
members and would welcome any critisisms (constructive or otherwise) on
the site and ideas on what I can do with the site to encourage people to buy.

Nothing To Write About! Nobody To Publish It!
Liar Liar! Pants on Fire!
by Joe Reinbold

Does that sound familiar? You would like to write online to
get additional exposure and traffic for your site, name
recognition or increase your subscriber base. But you are
convinced that there is nothing you have to write about.
WRONG!!

Sit down, take out a pad and pencil and just jot down a list
of things that you have an interest in. Don't do it in any
order, just make a list. Maybe you have a couple of hobbies -
collectibles, woodworking, crafts, doll houses, sewing, etc.
Or maybe you have specific expertise in some work related area.
For instance, you may specialize in marketing, advertising,
real estate, stocks, communications, word processing, baking,
cooking, or book reviews. You get the idea! On the other hand,
maybe you have no hobbies or interest, you're a couch potato!
Well, guess what, maybe you know where all the great programs
are on TV, you are an expert on soaps, classic movies, sci-fi,
or sports. Write them down.

Now go through the list and re-arrange it, listing them by
the ones that you have the most interest in and the most
knowledge of. Get on your computer and go to one of the
major search engines like Yahoo and do a search for
"ezine lists". You will come up with a number of listings
such as: John Labovitz's Ezine List at
http://www.meer.net/johnl/e-zine-list/
or eZINESearch at
http://www.site-city.com/members/e-zine-master
Use the keyword process to find ezines that might cover the
topic that you are interested in. If you don't find anything
about the first item on your list go to the next. There are
1,000's of ezines on the Net covering all types of topics.

Another good source for finding publishers who need articles
is Gary Christensen's Writer's & Publisher's Connection
Newsletter. Each issue has a list of publishers looking for
articles on specific topics and writers offering articles.
You can get a free subscription at: mailto:writers98@aol.com
You can also get a list of over 400 ezines, the majority
dealing with online marketing and promotion by sending
an email to: mailto:ezines@homebizlink.com

So you found a topic and you have written your first article.
Make sure that you spell check it and format it so that it
appears professional and the publisher can take it and insert
it in his or her publication without too much trouble.

I use about four articles each week and many of them are from
other publishers/writers. I received one last week that I was
interested in using. It was about eight paragraphs long which
was great for my Tip of The Week section. But when I pasted
into my text program where I draft my ezine it came out to
be eight lines. Each line stretched about six screens to the
right. Why? Because the writer just kept typing and let his
text wrap at the end of each line instead of using a hard
return. So I would have had to go through each line and put
a hard return and format the whole thing. I didn't have the
time so I deleted it and used another.

When preparing my articles, I try to make them about 60-65
characters per line with a hard return at the end of each
line. This is a good length since many email programs read
mail differently. There is nothing worse than a article
that has long lines and short lines of varying lengths every
other line. Looks sloppy and unprofessional! It is also a
good idea to use a similar guideline if you publish an ezine.

With each article you send out, add a resource paragraph or
signature paragraph of about five or six lines. Don't get
greedy and add one with 12 or 15 lines. Keep it simple. Take
a look at mine at the end of this article.

Once you are ready to send it out, get your list of publisher
addresses ready, make sure you save the list so you can add
to it and use it in the future. We have our list of publishers
who we send out articles to regularly saved as a separate
email list in our email program and just have to paste it into
the email and it goes out. You also want to have a short
introductory paragraph offering the article for their
publication, the topic and I like to add in the approximate
number of words, so they know right up front. I have found
that between 600 and 800 words is a good size article for a
lot of publishers.

So make up your list, do a little research, and get
writing!

feet and spanked him on the bottom to get him to take his first breath.
