True Story - Shorten Your Steps to Success!
Some people often wonder if it is possible to shorten the time it takes to
achieve a degree of internet success. This true story can give you some
insight and helpful hints on how to do just that!
Robert, the main character had been in mail order for years. He had no computer
experience but knew the marketing world was racing past him. When he finally got
his first computer just six months ago, he was off and running.
Like so many others before him, he found one of the free web sites. He started
with a template style page and filled in the blanks with some ad copy. It
didn't
take him long to realize that he was going to have to learn a little HTML code
so
he could have more control over the outcome of his web page. He began by
doing some searches and found some simple tutorials on HTML. He took some
notes and then tried out some HTML on a Windows Notebook editor. It soon
became apparent that HTML was easier than it looked. With notes in hand, Robert
could type up headlines, body copy and text with links to any web page he wanted
them to click to.
On June 7th, while placing classified ads, Robert found an Adland Classified
site. He became an affiliate and uploaded his free classified ad page to his web
site. Using his new knowledge of HTML (notes still in hand!), he began adding
a headline and text. Later after joining some other affiliate programs, he also
added some banners.
Now Robert was ready for some visitors. He tried submitting his page to search
engines but never could find his page. How frustrating it is to find everyones
page except your own! While doing some searches on how to get a better search
engine ranking, he found a site about Web Position Gold and downloaded a trial
version.
The program makes simple web pages that help you rank high on the search
engines. Robert submitted these new pages to the search engines and in a few
days started showing up on the first few pages of AltaVista and Infoseek. By
using the same keyword phrases in the title and discription, Robert found that
he could move even further to the top. In fact, on some keyword phrases, he
found his page listed at number one! Persistence does pay off even for the
internet beginner!
In less than 60 days, some 2,000 people had found this newbies site.
By August 10th his Adland Classified page ranked #13 out of over 3,000 other
Adland sites. In Robert's first 60 days he is earning money from four internet
companies. This goes to show that an internet beginner can begin to see some
degree of success in a very short period of time!
Just remember that it all started when he became an Adland Affiliate! An Adland
classified page will draw the traffic you need. They come to his site for free
classified ads but before they leave they are buying everything in sight! A

I thought the response my colleague Frank contributed might be
of interest to Adland's audience too. So here it is:
Hey, this is not only your problem, Karl, I'd bet it's the problem of
about 30 - 50% of the the Internet population<g>
Since the Net is US dominated - at least up to now -
almost every online bank, merchant account provider, and
credit card processing company offer solely US$ settling.
My listings of 142 merchant account providers show
- 117 accepting exclusively US citizens/US companies
- 23 accepting US & Canadians
- 5 accepting global customers
- 2 accepting USD & CAD
- 1 accepting USD & GBP
Somewhat odd?
However that may be, it's frustrating for the "rest of the world".
Knowing this particular problem through numerous requests
received from our clients in 60+ countries my inventive boss
(the well-known netrepreneur Joseph Jobst) has contacted
hundreds of banks and international financial institutions.

Hi all
Tarnisha Garvin-Rivera was asking about advertising,
firstly,
the search engines take 2 weeks or more to index a page you submit.
They will not accept urls with certain characters like ?
which are used on some affiliate sites and self replicated pages.
Secondly, make sure you have a *good* headline in classifieds
and remember most are very low traffic or used only by other posters.
Try e-zine ads and safe mailing lists (opt-in) do not buy lists of
email addresses as most are not clean.
Also Paul Barnes asks about Credit Card processing, The old
favourite click bank springs to mind. http://www.clickbank.com and
they will allow you to set up an affiliate program for whatever you
sell, plus pay you to refer their service to others (the url won't work
in email so I am not getting any credit for this ). It is ideal for starting
to accept credit cards without the cost.

It gives me great pleasure to read the article and view the results of the
"banner test" because my lil ole homemade banners outpull those of
people who are supposed to know what they are doing...:) I amk upset
with a CTR of 30 : 1 !
Also to the person who laments that they are getting no response to their
advertising though they have posted to search engines, directories, etc.
I have this to say: Isn't it obvious ? Rewrite the ad. Find one that pulls.
And leave it. "Nuff said.

Editor Note.
Being in the advertising business for last two years I'm really amazed by your
statement which says.

You should know that current statistics worldwide in regards to banner
click-thrus are around 0.5 % which means that you are getting about 5
clicks per 1000 impressions.
At AdlandPro there are some good results like CTR 14.4 which is considered as
very high and it can be seen here

I would suggest that you re-evaluate the way you make your statistics.
Also if your CTR is so high, what is your conversion ratio of visitors to
customers?
You can write any ad or make banner which generates clicks but what
actual sales?
Your second note to Tarnisha Garvin-Rivera question about help regarding
results from posting ads and your term "laments".
This forum is meant to help and answer questions to those who post them
here. Stating that ad should be rewritten is not helping at all.
You don't know what ad was Tarnisha posting before. It would be helpful if
you would ask what ads Tarnisha is posting and how to modify it to obtain
better results.
If everybody who knows the answer would reply here with statement that
this is obvious we wouldn't need forum like this.

engines weekly for month and have only been recognized by altavista i about
the 40's. i have heard about the doorway pages but can not find a site that
can tell me exactly, (i need step by step instructions) on how to create these
pages. i saw an ad 4 or 5 months ago about creating pages for you for 137.00,
but have not been able to find this bargain again. (most have offered to do
this for up to 1300.00). is there a site that gives specific instructions, or

Now URL`s don`t come much shorter than the latest deal to
hit the scene. Just three little words. (And two of those
remain constant making URL`s even easier to remember)

Your site can be any name you choose followed by SPEDIA.NET.
And yes, the URL is correct. You don`t need the www. prefix!!
In return for the shortened name, you have to "suffer" a
Tripod-style pop up ad window. But even that is turned to the
surfers advantage in several areas.
Every banner that is displayed in the pop-up window earns you
"ad points". The window also features a "GO TO" URL window and
again, each time someone uses this feature, you earn a point.
Similarly, you can amend links on your page so that when the
surfer clicks a link, they see a short ad before being
redirected. Again, all click-thro`s earn you points.
As "Surf and Earn" type programs seem to be the vogue at
present, these "ad points" are translated into cash at the
end of the month. I won`t be holding my breath waiting to
make my fortune from this method, but if it does pay up,
well so much the better. Even if it doesn`t, you`ve got a
short memorable URL into the bargain.

extractor software. Then I looked at your questions and I still though that
this was an announcement.
Just in case I'm wrong, here are my responses.

Since when wording can be used to fool recipient that actual posting is
not spam but some sort of previous correspondence or announcement.
Do you believe this is ethical?

If you ask me. NO.
I would never send offer to person who didn't request it or haven't used
my service which does it as an automatic confirmation when one of my
services is used.
So this software doesn't have any value for me.

I'm sure that are other companies which don't know how to make
money in legitimate ways and are taking advantage of newcomers
who use any techniques till they get some angry responses or
termination of their ISP services.

The first impressions are good, the site looks professional
and loaded fast on my old Pentium with 28.8k modem.
Your category list is most extensive but my sites deal with
relatonships and dating etc and, as with many directories,
you have no category for such sites.
On checking your "What's Cool" I was swamped by the huge
list. I checked 10 and found great sites and decidedly 'uncool' sites.
I take 'cool' to mean above average in design, information or
entertainment. I could not find information on how you 'cool' a
site or how my site may qualify to be 'cool.'
Your "Top Rated" had no listing yet (that's okay) but neither did
you give any information on how a site might become 'top rated.'
Likewise with your "Random Link." One listing with no explanations.
I believe categories such as 'cool' and 'top rated' should mean
something and your readers should know why you place sites in
such categories.
I had the impression you were leaning toward 'adult' material
(possibly as a means of income) and as a family person this
would prevent me from 'bookmarking' your site.
Those minor things aside I was very impressed.
You could try "clickbank.com" for your merchant account. It is
free and no commission deducted. They have a limit of $50.
