=========================== Word from publisher ========================

Greetings All

Welcome  108 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

                                         ----===(*)===-----

Recently I designed banner which has exceptional Click-thru ratio.
About 10%, which means that on 1000 impressions, this banner
gets  100 clicks.
Banner can be seen here and advertises affiliate program which
is oriented towards generating money.
http://www.adlandpro.com/adimages/customerday.gif

My question here is why is it so good when industry click-thru
ratio from banners are about  0.5 %.

When you look at it, you will see that it doesn't  provide any information
about the site behind it. In fact there is no information at all.
If you would like to respond to evaluation of this banner please
checkmark options below and of course add your comments if you wish.

-----
This banner gets good response because,

1. [  ] Hints opportunity
2. [  ] Comes from known source (owner of the site which I just connected to)
3. [  ] It is misleading and won't help advertiser
4. [  ] It has different shape than most banners.
5. [  ] It is visually appealing
6. [  ] Creates feeling of alertness
7. [  ] People know that it doesn't offer anything better  but they click just
         in case.
8. [  ] People like to be noted and be the  one and only one.
9. [  ] Everybody likes to be congratulated.
10[  ] Looks  like Windows interface
11[  ] It is on site which is about business
12[  ] It has small size (4K) and loads fast.
13[  ] It has dollar sign on it
14[  ]Other - Please specify.

From: Tonya Payne <tmpayne@mhtc.net>
Subject: Doorway pages

Hi Bogdan-
I read with great interest the last digest entries.  Thanks to the person who
mentioned checking out my results in Alta Vista.  I would like to say that when
I submitted the last email to you, those results were current at the time.
However, they change daily, and I have found that my listings fluctuate from
number 1 to number 8 on Alta Vista.  So the person (unfortunately they did not
give a name) would probably have clicked on a #7 ranked listing which was
correctly listed for auto financing as the rankings change every day.  Just
wanted to clarify that!

Also, I am involved in a business with uses replicated pages of their web
site...I have set up several lead-in pages on various free web space providers
and listed every one of those sites with the search engines.  (They all have
doorway pages, too!) <smile> And they are all getting some nice hits, much
better than the original replicator page.  I don't know if this works for anyone
else, but it is great for me!  All I do is set up the account with the free
provider, copy and paste the HTML from one of my other pages, and submit the
site.  It takes about 10 minutes tops for each new site.  If anyone is
interested in those free web pages and how my sites are set up, here are just a
few of those sites (I believe I have approximately 14 sites set up at this
point):

http://www.computersdirect.homepage.com
http://www.myfreeoffice.com/magicmarketing/computerfin.html
http://www.computersdirect.freeservers.com

These pages are all very simple (again, to help with search engine rankings) and
if you click on the "Apply Here" link at the bottom it takes you to an
application form.  This form is provided free by http://www.responders.net.  The
results go to me via e-mail, my autoresponder thanks the applicant, and I enter

the information on my replicator page.  This helps to keep track of my apps and
also pre-screen the apps according to the company's standards.  If anyone is
involved in an affiliate program such as this, I highly recommend this method.

I hope this can help others!  I would be glad to supply more information
(specific questions only) to anyone who wants to know more.  With the company I
am with now, if only 10% of my apps are approved I will bring home approximately
$600.00 per week...I owe it all to multiple pages. .I'll keep you posted!

Diana, are you talking about email addresses for you to make offers to
the people who are interested in business opportunities?  If so,
you may want to place some ads on Yahoo's Classifieds under the
"business opportunities".  Of course, there IS  a lot of competition
out on the Internet with everyone wanting people to sign up for their
biz opp  :)  Check it out at http://www.yahoo.com and click on
"Classifieds"  then click on Submit Ad in the upper right corner.

Just be sure to write compelling copy to make them prefer to visit
or write to you above everyone else out there.  You can also go
to http://www.dejanews.com and look for lists that deal with your
specific interest and join some to see if they allow you to submit
an ad to the list announcing your opportunity.

Hope that was some help  :)

Best regards,
Terri Robinson

My biggest hint is to make sure that your actual content and META
tags are relative. If there isn't good content on your pages META tags
won't be of much help. Likewise, if you have good content, you also
need to have relevant META tags.

The Course should begin the first week of October.

Although this SUCCESS program is designed for my Downlines, it can be effective
in promoting most websites. It is a progressive course, so subscribing in the
beginning will be of value to most people.

Some venues we will be covering:

Setting up your site attractions,
Why it has to be FREE!
Page Loading Time,
Killer one line ads,
Building your ad cycle,
Subscribing to the 'right ezines',
Working Mailing Lists,
Maximizing Banner Programs,
Working RAPID HIT sites,
The 80% that don't enter,
Free vs. Pay Submissions
Working Custom Directories

These are just a few of the issues and methods we will cover in the Massive Hits
Marketing Course's 30 day cycle. Above all you must condition yourself to accept
change as the norm of Internet activity. Many people like things to stay the
same after they've learned something once. NOT so on the Internet, half of the
stuff you learn in your first year is obsolete in your second year, online,
there is a never- ending
learning curve.

IF you finish the course you should have developed some excellent SUCCESS
HABITS!

We look forward to learning with you in the coming weeks!

We have only been on-line for 9 months now, but without a doubt the best form of
advertising that we have had to date has been our customer service. Sure it's
slower and won't give you a big rush of hits immediately but I am convinced that
"word-of-mouth" as is in real life business, is STILL the best form of
advertising you can get.
What it means for us is, (our hits are growing slowly but steadily each month)
but they are "quality hits". By this we mean repeat custom and often we discover
our new customers are referrals from previous customers.
We go to exceptional lengths to provide outstanding service to our customers and
as a result have some of our customers voluntarily carry our URL as their e-mail
signature and offer other forms of free advertising for us.
We add the personal touch to our customer services and our customers really
appreciate it. If anything ever goes wrong for a customer we will try to over
compensate to make amends. This results in not only us keeping a previously
disgruntled customer, but we usually find they have "told their friends about
us".
Both Joan and I measure part of our success by the number of new friends we have
made through our online business and feel "richer for the experience".

Site Review of The Home Business Network
http://www.homebiznet.net

Mike, you have done a wonderful job on your site!  It is easy
to read and navigate - great colors - very clean!  You are very
smart to put your newsletter sign-up box near the top of the page
so that visitors can see it easily!

Your ads are discrete and appropriate for your visitors, and you
used the "_blank" or "_new" to make a new window open up and not
send them off your own site.  Same with your graphics - great
job!

The only suggestion I would make is that you put META TAG description
and keywords in the "head" of your document for each page.  Make
it relevant to that single page and submit each page to the
search engines.  You have a wealth of information there that
the small business entrepeneur could use, but until it gets into
some search engines it may be like trying to find an address on
the curb on an unlighted street *smile*

I have bookmarked your site to check back and explore at greater
length!  Best of luck, Mike!  You have a winning page there!

Site review of AMS Team Gold
http://www.amsteamgold.com

Vince, I love the color combination you chose for your site :)
The picture is beautiful, but 60+K is a little hefty for most
visitors to wait for.  Lucky me, I have cable modem, so it
loaded pretty quickly for me *smile*  You can go to one of the
free gif optimizer places like MediaBuilder's at
http://www.gifoptimizer.com/index.html  where you can get the
gif "shrunk down" a bit and not lose the integrity of the picture.
You did great with using ALT tags and HEIGHT and WIDTH!

I noticed in your source code that you have META TAG keywords
twice with different keywords in each place.  I don't know
much about Search engines, maybe another expert here could
answer that, but I would think having it there twice might
confuse it and make it ignore your site altogether?

Your subject lends itself to you offering free articles about
health issues to your visitors too.  The more interaction
you have on your site, the more likely you will be to get
repeat visitors.  You might also want to offer some sort of
poll that allows them to offer an opinion about a health
issue.

You're headed in the right direction, Vince!  Good luck with
your business!

Thank you everyone for being patient with my "chatty letter" -
there were so many great things to respond to this time!

Best regards,
Terri Robinson

Ask me to buy your  product.
By  Robert Willmann

Do you actively pursue sales from your website, or do you just
list your product and "hope" that your site visitors will buy?
I've seen countless websites that had a list of products, but never
even came close to asking me to buy the product.

Direct mail marketers have mastered the technique of the sales
letter, and if you sell a product from your website, so should
you. There are several key elements that comprise a successful
sales letter, and these can be applied directly to online marketing
and website design.

1) Make sure that you plainly spell out EXACTLY what your product
consists of.

I know this sounds obvious, but I have seen hundreds of sites that
were so vague, it seemed the webmaster was almost afraid to say
what was being sold. Don't make this mistake. I use the header
HTML tags (<h1> etc.) to spell out in bold letters exactly what
I'm selling.

2) Do not be afraid to ask your customers to buy your product.

Have you ever watched those late night infomercials? If you're
up past 2:00 am. that's just about all that's on tv. These infomercials
usually tell you multiple times in one broadcast to "pick up the
phone and CALL NOW!". A call to action phrase is the specific name
for this technique. Use it. If you sell a product or service, don't
be afraid to "tell" your customers to order.

3) Use testimonials.

Once your product begins to sell, ask your previous customers to
send you a testimonial about your product. (This has been covered
in past issues of LED. Read the archives for more info on testimonials
and the power behind them.)

4) List the benefits of your product.

Many new website owners confuse features with benefits. To determine
the benefits of your product, ask yourself this simple question:
"If I was to buy this product, how would it help me?" Does it save
time? Money? Take time to brainstorm, and you'll probably come
up with a list of benefits for your product or service.

5) If possible, give a guarantee for your product.

In order to sell on the Internet, you must believe in what you're
selling. If you do, back your product by a guarantee. you'll be
surprised at how your sales will pick up simply by including a
guarantee.

And here's an amazing fact: Even if a customer doesn't find your
product valuable, many will simply never return the product. I'm
a good example. I got a watch one year for Christmas that I really
liked. It had a lifetime warranty, and when it broke, I simply
went out and bought a new one. Why? Because it's easier to go to
the mall and buy another one.

6) Finally, make sure that the visitors you're receiving are interested
in your product.

It doesn't matter if you get 100,000 visitors per month if all
of them aren't interested in what you're selling. To get around
this delima, try to target your market every time you promote your
website. (Read "Targeting Your Market the SMART way" for more info.)

That should get you started.

I've had tremendous success online selling my book, and it's largely
due to my sales letter. I never took a marketing course in my life,
but I was relentless when it came to reading about selling. Make
it a habit to surf the net and find reputable sources of information
on sales and marketing. You'll be glad you did.

If you want to really tap into online sales, start your own online
newsletter (often called an ezine). Ezines are one of the best
free promotional tools available. I actually started my own ezine
before my book came out so I could gain an initial prospect base
before-hand. And man, did it pay off. My ezine has been out for
about 3 months now, and I have over 3,000 subscribers. I learned
quite a bit about "selling" since then, and I have 2 pieces of
advice:

a) Test, test, test!!! - Try various techniques, and use your server
log to find out what technique does the best. There are no "secrets"
to internet marketing, just scientific advertising.

b) Ask successful web marketers to "fill you in" on what works.
Be prepared to wait a couple of days to get a reply, because most
successful website owners are really busy.

======================Joke of the Day=====================
Joke provided by
Laurie Delk <delk@columbia.total-web.net>

This 60 year old woman was walking along 5th Avenue when she heard a voice
from above "You will live to be 100."  She looked around and didn't see
anyone. Again she heard "You will live to be 100."

Boy, she thought to herself, that was the voice of God. I've got 40 more
years to live!  So off she went to the plastic surgeon. She got everything
fixed from head to toe.

When she left the plastic surgeon's office, she got hit by a bus, died,
and went up to heaven.

She said to God "You told me I would live to be 100. I was supposed to
have had 40 more years. So how come you let the bus kill me?".

God said: "I didn't recognize you".
