==========F e a t u r e d P o s t=============
From: Steve Hartung <lowcost@bouldernews.infi.net>
Subject: All visitors are NOT created equal.

Bogdan,
Greetings Bogdan and adlands digest readers.
IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE 40 MILLION WEBSITES trying to earn a profit.
This might be of help to you.
The first study of actual online behaviour released earlier
this week by McKinsey and Media Metrix shows that only half
of online consumers are active users, logging on at least
once a month. Furthermore, among those active users, six
distinct segments have emerged: Simplifiers, Surfers,
Connectors, Bargainers, Routiners and Sportsters.
McKinsey's John Forsyth said that marketers who try to reach
all six at once, or approach them as if they were all alike,
"do so at their peril," hence the title of the report - "All
Visitors Are Not Created Equal."

Here are some details the report provides --

Simplifiers use the Internet to make their lives easier, and
tend to log on with a specific purpose in mind and they want
to do it quickly and easily. Although Simplifiers spend just
7 hours per month on the Web, they have the longest tenure
online (49% have been online for over 5 years) and account
for half of the total online transactions.

Surfers constitute just 8% of the active user population,
but they account for 32% of online time -- far more than any
other segment in the study. They access over four times as
many pages as the average user, and move quickly among the
domains, continually seeking new experiences.

Connectors are relative novices, seeking reasons to use the
Internet. Although Connectors account for 36% of the active
user population, 40% of them have been online less than two
years, and just 42% have made purchases online (versus an
average of 61%). Connectors often use the Internet to
"connect" with people through e-mail and chat rooms.
However, they hold great potential to expand their use and
become members of a different segment.

Bargainers are fiercely devoted to one aspect of the
Internet: the quest for deals. Though they represent only 8%
of active online users and spend less time online than the
average user, they represent 52% of eBay visitors.

Routiners and Sportsters go online primarily for content.
Only half of Routiners have made purchases online, and just
6% have made five or more online purchases. They visit fewer
domains (typically news and financial sites), but spend
almost twice as much time per page as average users.

Routiners want superior content and the sense they are
getting "something special." Sportsters (just 4% of active
online users) act much like Routiners, but focus on sports
and entertainment sites. They spend just 7.1 hours online
each month (versus a 9.8 average), and are drawn to fresh,
colorful and interactive sites.
I hope some of you can use this information to adjust your advertising to
meet
the needs of these 6 segments of internet users. Good luck to all of you...
Personally,
I gave up the website and product selling some time ago. Competing against
40 million websites is 39.9999 million to many for me.
I now give away a "free Email service" that pays cash everytime i send or
receive regular daily email. Billions of email are exchanged everyday! Iam
getting a big piece of that pie  and earning cash.

Thank you Bogdan and thank you adlands digest readers.

In issue #171...New Posting #3 (From: "Robert Lee"

Subject: Free promotion! )

Robert told us about a place he found:

>Hi Bogdan,
>In my forever search for really free and worthwhile promotions, here is one
>for the members of this newsletter:
>is offering free space in their shopping area. This is essentially a
>shopping search engine, but it looks great! Everyone should take a look and

to
>promote your business in a great selling atmosphere.
>e sure to take a look at this one!
>Robert Lee.

Well, being that I am always looking for ways (FREE ways, I might add!), to
promote my little custom made floral service, I immediately went there to
check it out!

I signed up and I am in the process of getting things started as we "speak"!
One great thing about the FREE area is that you can create a new storefront
and link to it from an already existing website. Pretty Neat, Hugh? Bring on
those CUSTOMERS!  LOTS and LOTS of useful stuff for FREE!

Thank you, thank you Robert! If you come across any more places like that,
just keep us all informed, PLEASE?

This newsletter is the greatest for getting helpful info from its readers!
Thanks to all of you who contribute!

From: Sharon Badke <bestyet@smartisp.com>
Subject: One more FFA links comment

I have also submitted to the FFA links pages and am very disappointed
with the results.   In the last year I have watched a steady
deterioration in this type of marketing, not because it isn't a great
way to get and give information but because spam has taken it over the
edge.

Several  months ago I advertised heavily for about a week and then
decided to hold off before submitting again because the spam was
overloading my mailbox.  I'm not talking about 50 or 100 emails, instead

there were 400 and 500 a day!  Now, people will tell you to get an extra

mailbox,  which I did,  but any mailbox you have needs to get cleaned
out  periodically and just deleting takes a good deal of time.  I truly
accept the fact that if you are going to post an advertisement then you
need to expect to get some email responses but not hundreds a day for
months. Yes, I am still getting email about my  postings, even today.

It's a shame.  A year ago I used to enjoy reading the FFA links pages
where I found free WebPages, interesting opportunities, new programs,
and true bargains. Today, there is no control over what is put on them,
how many times the same person posts to them, or how much spam is sent
to anyone who does post.  Soon FFA link pages will be a thing of the
past because no one cares enough to make the necessary changes and the
link pages are useless the way they operate now.

To all of you FFA link spammers:   If you read our posting then send us
an email - ONCE!  and if we don't respond the first time we are
obviously not interested in what you are selling so please don't tell us

about it again, and again, and again.  Save the FFA links before it's
too late.

From: "Robert Chalmers" <robert@chalmers.com.au>
Subject: : FFA site advertising

Hi,
like others, I initially thought a while back that FFA was a 'good idea'.
To say that it has proved worse than useless would be an exaggeration. I
have come to this conclusion after running a traffic experiment with it over
some 6 months or so.

Initially, I just kept the thing in place with a link from my main pages
pointing to a "Trash & Treasure" market. Which just about sums up such a
listing. I ensured that clicking on links in the listing would open a new
browser window, so users would not be taken away from my site, but could
return to the main site pages - or leave - when they chose to.
After watching the logs for over six months, no more than half a dozen
people clicked on the "Trash&Treasure" link, and about the same number
actually clicked on any of the links in the links.html page. FFA sites are
an utter waste of time and bandwidth.

What has finally prompted me to remove my links.html pages all together was
a watch I did on actual traffic generated. The bandwidth it consumes is
quite incredible. If you are running an NT machine, grab a copy of Languard
from www.languard.com and just watch the site that carries your FFA links
page for a while. At an average, each request to the page creates 130
packets in, and 190 packets out. A total of 320 packets for each request. If
your FFA site has been 'UP' for a while - like six months, it's very well
known to all the engines out there, so your requests will probably average
one per second over that period. Believe me, when you start watching it,
there is a HUGE amount of network traffic generated. Those figures give you
19200 per minute. That's a lot of bandwidth in any persons language. Which
is probably costing YOU.

So unless you are actually selling FFA membership, it can only be costing
you more than you are making. The other problem that arises, is that even
when you down the site to remove the traffic, you still get the incoming
traffic trying to connect to the FAA link page. It probably takes an equal
amount of time - six months - for your site to disappear from the FAA
databases. I suspect it never will disappear from all of them. Given the
number of illegal copies out there, a lot of the databases never get
updated. So even though you may have removed your links page, you are still
going to get bombarded with traffic trying to get to it.
You can of course capture the email addresses of the incoming requests, and
send requests to the originator, asking (telling) them to remove you from
their FFA databases. Good luck with that one!

Robert

Subject: Re: Credit Card Merchant Accounts

Bogdan,
I've been reading the various posts about accepting
credit card payments online.

I had a merchant account but they were refusing to
take payments for online services. Specifically they
were refusing to take payments for advertising in my
newsletter.

After looking around, the best service for my needs was
clickbank. http://hop.clickbank.net/?johncolanz

They charged a small fee to set up my account, but
that investment was returned in the first day and
I haven't looked back.

The best part was they allowed me to set up a reseller
program for my newsletter and the reseller didn't
even have to sell anything.

They could give Free ads for new subscribers and once
someone subscribed,they would receive 40 %
commissions if the new subscriber ordered paid advertising
within 90 days of signing up using their reseller link.

It's a win-win situation. They didn't even have to know
how to sell. They only had to give away Free Ezine Ads
and I do the rest.

The reller details are at: http://www.johncolanzi.com/adbroker.html

This system can be used for selling e-books, advertising, password
protected access, there's no limit to what can be accomplished on
a shoestring budget.

John Colanzi

Subject: Any Suggestions

Hi Bogdan and Fellow Subscribers:

I am embarking on what will hopefully become a successful Internet business
venture. I have designed a gateway page  for the product sites and submitted
it to all of the major search engines, but am getting very few hits (and
even fewer sales).

I don't really have a lot of time to spend on the net advertising.  I
originally tried some FFA programs, but got a lot of junk mail in return.

I think that the products are marketable.  My wife and I are using
information from one of the CD's (Start Your Own Business) to help a friend
of ours start her own business.

Any suggestions of advertising for someone on a tight time budget would be
helpful.  Also, I would welcome any constructive comments regarding my sites
and the products.

Thank you.

Dear Bogdan:

I have an online children clothing store at www.dugs.mb.ca retailing the
type of clothing needed by children just about anywhere in the world.  (I
was born in the Caribbean, and there were many mornings as a child that I
would have welcomed a sweat shirt to shield myself from that sea breeze.)
Sales results are dismal,  I'll admit that I just went up March 10, 2000.

I have joined banner ad programs, exchange banner program, used an automatic
submitter to various FFA links, search engines, message boards etc.

I know that there is more to be done, but can someone tell me what are the
best promo tools out there..I am not ready to give up I just want my efforts
to be productive!

Thank You,

Subject: Tips for Ezine Publishers

Hi Bogdan,

No doubt many of your readers  realise the benefit
of, and publish, their own Ezine. So here is an idea
that they may wish to copy or adapt.

It's a pity to lose all the valuable content you
may have written in past issues of an Ezine.

You could archive each issue (some mailing lists allow
you to do this automatically) but your reader then has
to plough through countless tiresome web pages entitled,
for example, Volume 1V issue 39 to get to the good bits.

What I have done is put every issue of my newsletter
(SuperTips Ezine) on a separate web page, not as a straight
text copy of the Emailed issue, but as a well designed
web page.

I then have an index page listing each issue
highlighting the key tips and articles.

Here are some benefits of doing this:
- If you are asked for a sample of your Ezine you
just refer to the index page. Useful for
promotion in ezine lists or ad swapping.

- You can submit the archives to the Search Engines
  resulting in more subscribers

- You can let potential subscribers at your subscribe
page look at past issues to help decide whether
  to join

You can see how I have used this at
 <www.supertips.com/ezine/>

Any comments from your readers are welcome and I
will feed them back to the list.

Harvey Segal

Keep Doing What You've Always Been Doing and You'll Keep Getting
What You've Always Been Getting!
by Leon Brickey Copyright 2000

Have you ever asked someone if they are satisfied with their
current financial status? If you asked more than a couple of
people I'm sure you heard some NOs! Almost everyone would like to
have more financial income. Some folks would like to have just a
few hundred dollars extra per month while others would like to
have MILLIONS.

We all could use some extra money from time to time. Some more
than others. Money isn't everything, but I kind of stand with
W.C. Fields on this one - "I've been rich and I've been poor and
believe me RICH IS BETTER." Money isn't everything, but it can
sure make a lot of life's worries and stress disappear.

So how do we go about improving our financial status Leon?

Well, the very first thing you are gonna have to do is CHANGE
what you've been doing up till now. It doesn't take a "rocket
scientist" to see that when it comes to life, your business, or
your job; if you keep doing what you're doing you are more than
likely going to keep getting what you've been getting.

If you want to make a change in your life for the better you've
got to come out of that COMFORT ZONE.

Keep clocking into that same "rut" of a job and doing the least
you can get by with, and things will stay just as they are.
You'll keep doing just enough to keep from being fired and
they'll keep paying you just enough to keep you from quitting.
Over 90% of the work force exists this way. Keep setting in front
of the TV from the time you get home till bedtime and your
financial status won't improve at all!

I'm sure many of you have heard the little saying that "JOB"
stands for "Just Over Broke." Typically there is a lot of truth
in that. I've never personally met anyone who became STONE COLD
WEALTHY with a job. If the person is wealthy; and it's not old
inherited money or lottery winnings they probably got it in
business. Not from a job. A job pays you "Just over broke" till
you turn 65, then pays you 50% of "Just over broke" till you die!
Not exactly something you can count on.

YOU can break this unending cycle of just getting by from payday
till payday, but you have to be willing to make some changes in
your life.

With a job we trade our time and efforts for money. Nothing wrong
with that concept, but it can't continue on indefinitely.
There'll come a time when we no longer want to work or are no
longer able to work. With a job, if you stop working you soon
stop getting paid. That's not necessarily true in business. With
a business you can get paid for what you START, not just what you
DO. In addition to that, with a business you can get paid on the
efforts of many, not just your own efforts. And best of all you
can get paid over and over for the efforts you put forth just one
time. I LIKE that! I REALLY like that!

So if you want to stop being "Just over broke," here is what you
do:

1) Look at what's available to you.
Start checking out various business opportunities that are
available to you. Look at businesses that you have some knowledge
about. Automobiles, computers, health foods, telecommunications,
etc. It doesn't really matter what industry you are interested in
as long as it's an ethical, honest, well established company.

Look at MLM, commission sales, services, etc. They all have
advantages and disadvantages.

Be a guest at business opportunity meetings, check out local and
national publications, and check out opportunities available on
the Internet. Once you find something appealing CHECK IT OUT!
Check with the Better Business Bureau, speak to high and low
ranking officials within the company, have a more experienced
business person look into the company for you, etc. Check them
out as thoroughly as possible. If you have ANY doubts or concerns
about the credibility of the company STAY AWAY! If it's not a
company you can be PROUD and EXCITED to be affiliated with DON'T
JOIN!

2) Make yourself a plan of action!
If you don't have a plan of action you may as well sign up for
The Boston Marathon and then shoot yourself in the foot right
before the race starts. You'd stand the same chance of
accomplishing your goal. If you don't have a plan of action, GET
ONE!

Once you start to put your plan of action together you'll see
what an awesome task you have undertaken. This is where YOU
become very important! You have got to put forth greater effort
than you put into that 9am to 5pm job. You've got to put your
VERY best efforts into YOUR business. It's YOUR business and if
YOU don't take care of it I can promise you nobody else will.
You have to work longer, harder, and smarter than you do on your
job. But the rewards are worth it! I'll bet you can't work your
job REALLY hard for 5 to 10 years and retire, but you can with
your own business.

3) Work your business CONSISTENTLY!
Most folks who start into MLM opportunities or home business
opportunities quit before any significant money starts coming in.
If you aren't working the opportunity you can't make any money
from the opportunity. Folks work a dead end job for 30, 40, or
even 50 years; but when they don't make $10,000 the first or
second month in a business opportunity they get discouraged and
quit. That's not the winning attitude, and that's not how winners
are made. If you aren't going to commit to a business
opportunity for at least a year, don't waste your time and don't
waste your sponsor's time. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither
will a successful business be.

Of course there is an alternative - Keep Doing What You've Always
Been Doing and You'll Keep Getting What You've Always Been
Getting!

======================Joke of the Day=====================
Submitted by Virginia Harlow

True story, on tech support voicemail, a distraught young women left this
message.

"Hello, Virginia?  I don't know if I did something wrong?  Have I broken
this computer again?  I was sitting here doing some work, and had the
WordPerfect program running, and just left it along for a few minutes to do
some other work, and when I turned back to it....it was, well, there was
something UNDER the screen...like I could see the WordPerfect ok, but there
was something pushing it up in places, and MOVING, all around, making the
thing bulge like a ball or something, and....is it broken?  What did I do?
Do I need a new monitor?"  After I got control of my hysterical laughter, I
called her and told her about screensavers.

I've enjoyed reading each issue so much, but the joke always seems to be
missing.  After spending then entire weekend struggling with tech problems,
this phone call was just what I needed.  I've been laughing all day.  Best
regards to all.
