================== Word from publisher ====================
Greetings All
Welcome 280 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.
----===(*)===-----
Many of Adland Digest subscribers might be not aware that they can
advertise in this newsletter starting at $15.
These mailings are being sent to over 23,000 subscribers and there are
only four ads in the entire mailing. Each day around 40-60 new subscribers
are joining this list and response from advertising in the digest is
just overwhelming if you are targeting properly.
If you have a product or service needed by
companies seeking to
promote their business on the Web, there's no
better place to
advertise than Adland Digest. There is still a
few spots still open in the
next few months, though spaces are filling up
fast.
Also many Adland Digest subscribers are individuals who joined it
after visiting Adlandpro classifieds. This will tell you that these
people either were posting ads quite often to promote their
business or advertised their affiliation with other businesses.
In short, demographics of this discussion list are people who
are business oriented and are interested in finding ways of
profiting from the internet.
To review advertising options and rates go to this page.
http://www.adlandpro.com/archives/Advertising.asp
Once your ad is posted here, it is being archived and
available for viewing.
http://www.adlandpro.com/archives/
This is almost like placing your own web page.
You will be receiving hits from it for as long as
your business is operational.
There are also tracking options available.

From:Doug Appleby
Although I have been a subscriber to Adland Digest since last September this is
my first posting to the List. At times I have been tempted to post an article,
particularly when in the first fever of promoting for referrals to a new program
or opportunity. Instead, the fever was worked off by posting to the Boards and
Clubs I belong to, and adding links to my websites.
By the time most people recognise that they are "impulse signers" to
programs,
it is almost too late to save them. They belong to everything, know little or
nothing about them, and their promotional methods are often spam (or the edge of
it) because they don't know any better. Their downlines are left untended and
don't grow because there is always another hot opportunity. What a tragedy to
see such energy wither and die, with the right support and resources, it can
flourish.
I see this Discussion List as an environment in which much can grow and would
like to suggest that those of you who find yourselves, at times, frantic
promoters to just slow up and look at what you have got.
Have a good look at the programs you are working to make money from, and the
resources and relationships that you are trying to establish.
Spend a couple of days visiting all the sites you belong to and note down the
ones that gave you any renewed flickers of interest.
Make an assessment, in your own way, as you go. Ask the questions:
Has this program moved forward since I have been a member?
Do my returns (or lack) from this program reflect my effort?
Do my returns from this program reflect my methods?
Is this program in my Top Ten list?
Then, concentrate a few days just working on your Top Ten. You may even find
that once you start promoting thoughtfully and purposefully, you will have
success getting referrals now that the program you are revisiting is no longer
being thrashed all over the Internet, and you are approaching it differently.
My personal objective is to become an internet missionary dedicated to saving
our signers and my goal, is to open an interactive clinic capable of diagnosing
and treating this fast growing global disease. If there are any subscribers,
particularly in the areas of programming and scripting, interested in
participating in the building of a content-rich site for this market, please
email me at:
doug.appleby@kiwithings.co.nz
I will be happy to discuss my development plan and concept with serious
respondents.

You also need to have a product or service that has REAL value, something that

I agree Tom, I have been on the Net for a few years and have always used it as a

It Amazes me how many people check out my business opportunity and say 'well if
I have to spend any money I don't want to do it".. BE REAL!
If everyone is signing up for Free how the heck is anyone going to make any

too? It
makes me sick that people Believe this Hype.
Whether you prefer Direct Sales, like designing web pages, or MLM.. get

I received the following mail and thought you should know this before you

ANOTHER RIP OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VISA REBATES !!!
YES ..... Neither VISA or MASTERCARD allow this practice.
Any bank offering such a service will be lose their facility.
The fact is ... VISA and MASTERCARD do NOT allow any rebates whatsoever to
the general public especially via a Multi Level SYSTEM.
IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT .... MAKE DIRECT CONTACT AND THEY WILL TELL YOU
http://www.visa.com
http://www.mastercard.com
Visa and MasterCard will NOT be involved in any MLM. They don't even offer
re-seller rights themselves to the general public.
You CANNOT earn money as a percentage of what others spend. It is viewed as
money laundering and it's NOT LEGAL .. you could have the authorities knocking
on your door !
If you have given your name and address to these people, all that will ever
happen is that they will collect your details and who knows what will happen
then.
You have been WARNED ..... If you promote a rip off, it's your good name that
suffers
ASK VISA REBATES FOR A COPY OF THEIR AGREEMENT WITH VISA !!!!
For the system to operate, THEY MUST HAVE THIS DOCUMENT.
NO EXCUSES .. IT'S EITHER YES OR NO.
A LEGITIMATE COMPANY WILL PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION.

Subject:Gateway /Mirror pages
Hello Marian,
I'll do my best to explain the use of mirror pages to you.
A Mirror Page is a web page that looks similar to and/or
points to your affiliate web site with your MLM company.
It's also called a "teaser" or "sizzle" page, where you
include
basic information about you and your opportunity or product,
and a link at the bottom to your affiliate web site.
The reason mirror pages are so important is because you
want to increase your chances as much as possible of being
listed high in search engine results. Since everyone else is
trying to do the same thing, your success is in the numbers
of mirror pages you have and the meta tags you use.
Search engines will only allow submission of the same URL
once every 30 days. If you submit the same URL more
often than that, you'll get kicked off or even banned from
submitting again. So, imagine if you had a dozen or more
mirror pages, all leading to your Main page. You could
submit all 12 URLs every month instead of just one! Mirror
pages are also a good substitution for those member pages
that have a ? or an = in them because those URLs can't
be submitted to search engines. I actually have 100s of
mirror pages, and make it my goal to create 5 or 6 every
month.
Mirror pages are very easy to create, and there are
hundreds of places to host them for free. The more
diversity you have in the free web space you choose, the
more exposure you'll get, even within that free-web
community. This means that you don't want to host five
of your ten mirror pages all on one Site or Host, for example.
You want to branch out to other free hosts.
Speaking about free web pages, you can find about
167 sites offering free pages for different interests group

Greetings Tony,
Gateway pages can be used in various ways as you have mentioned.
However, there is a better way of doing it. According to Dr. Ken Evoy,
the developer of Make Your Site Sell!, the most effective and efficient
way of developing your site and promoting your site is to do it right the
first time.....no tricks! The spiders get wise to tricks and then one
has to start over again because when they find the "tricks" they
simply
do not list your site. Therefore, wasted time and effort. So if you

In response to Robert Lee "Platinum Phenomenon"
The "true believers" are still here Robert (I thought the GP
discussion had run
it's course). All of the GP members I have been in contact with are still 100%
behind GP. Sure, we were disappointed the GPC didn't launch on Jan 15, but we
would rather see a product - yes PRODUCT - that has been over a year in
development launched bug free. If you would like to see a screen-shot preview of
the GPC go to http://www.goingplatinum.com/gpcpreview.html
The GPC will be free to join but there will be upgrade options where you will be
charged a small fee - each category in the GPC will have upgradeable features
that go beyond the usual standard offerings - ex. Free DSL, Free 1-800 dial-up
service, voicemail, paging, extended mailbox space in the Platinum Office,
Real-Time Quotes
instead of 20-minute delays in the Finance Area, Advanced Fantasy League
Participation in the Platinum Sports Area, Advanced Gaming in the Platinum Games
Area, etc....
Let me spell it out to you Robert, the GPC IS A PRODUCT - it is not
"air" - you
do not employ a team of software developers to make "air".
The compensation plan for participation in the GPC is based on the MLM business
model (although Alan Cantalan argues that GP is not an MLM company). MLM is used
by thousands of online and offline businesses. It is not illegal.
Robert, you've been throwing mud at GP for some time, and inferring that members
are fools and are being taken for a ride. I think it's time to, as we say down
under, "put up or shut up". If GP is a scam or in some way illegal
then report
them to the proper US authorities. Then let us all know when GP has been shut
down. If that day doesn't come then we'll know who the fool is, won't we?

In closing, this from Alan Cantalan (post to member's forum):
" What you must all understand is that although GP has become a part of all
of
your lives, IT IS OUR LIFE! It is all we do all day, everyday, and nobody wants
the site up more than we do. Our developers (myself included) have been putting
in 20 hour days every day with some stretches lasting 36+ hours without so much
as a nap just to get this thing off on time. Although it did not happen, it is
not for lack of trying or financing. There are
application servers that had not even been invented before we started this
project and because much of the technology is new, we had to create them
ourselves. The talent level of the GP development team is among the very best in
the world and they have been able to do so much that others just have not or
could not (please see Spielberg and Co.)
We WILL launch soon and I am truly sorry to have let you all down.
Alan"

It seems to me that you are stuck on looking at the GPAP part of going platinum
Robert. That is only one of over 400 sources of income for members. The product
will be Free ISP service. Pretty hard to give you the product, when it isn't
ready for consumer use yet. That's why it's called "prelaunch"....it
hasn't
launched yet.
Yes it's true I have made a fair bit of money already....but I do not
market
and promote without conscience, and have also helped make money for members in
my organization. It is NOT a pyramid....as my organization does not grow
perfectly
top to bottom, and left to right. Each time I complete a bronze round, I am
placed under the weakest member of my organization, to help them build.
I'll repeat myself, "you don't have to pay anything". Members
can join for free
and earn their way into the GPAP after launch with earnings in their GPC. They
can also decline participation in the GPAP after launch, and rely solely on
their earnings in the GPC.
Please look at the ENTIRE program before jumping to conclusions Robert. I
know
that there is a lot of garbage on the net, and don't blame you for being

Hi there fellow subscribers:
A couple of months ago I was asked to consider joining
Going Platinum.
After searching their webpages in pursuit of a product
or program and failing to find any substance, I went to
their application page.
The amount of information they wanted [but did not need]
from their applications rang a bell in light of what I know
about creating a shadow identification. This is where
a con artist steals the identity of another person , birth date.
address, personal security number and the point of it all--
their credit card number. They then go on a shopping spee
[Sometimes years] leaving the hapless victim the burden of proving-
that the con happened and their identity has been stolen.
The platinum application asks for all the necessary
details in order to fulfill the scam..
I e-mailed the platinum people explaining the above. Approx
four weeks later I received a standard reply that did
not address my concerns, In fact it was either a reply
from a autoresponder or they choose to ignore what
I had written..
Needless to say I did not join Platinum , I am watching
it to see how far it will evolve before it implodes.
Interesting posts from all.

This Comment is for "Shawn" and his "dissing" of the
DHS Club.....
My name is Shellie Langley and I've been a VIP of
DHS for 3 months now. I have enjoyed every moment of
my time spent there and I've NEVER met nicer people
anywhere than I have with DHS. This is NOT some
nameless, faceless, cold shoulder company. I have even
corresponded with the President, Dick Burke, himself
and he has proven to be VERY helpful!!
As for the "four figure check" "Shawn" was referring
to,
he talks like that was a one time payment!! Does he
not understand that this $4000 check is a MINIMUM,
guaranteed MONTHLY check for the rest of this
hard working recipients LIFE!!! The above "MINIMUM"
means that this person will more than likely receive
MORE than that $4000, but NEVER less than that
amount!!
"Shawn" needs to become more informed about things
before he goes off half cocked!!! I personally am glad
that he's not "wasting his time" with DHS anymore.
Sounds to me like he never even gave it a chance to
work and like maybe he doesn't stick around long
enough, or apply himself enough to the training that
was available to him, and everyone else that elects
to join the DHS Club.
If DHSC was as bad as "Shawn" says it is, why then are
they one of the only 3 1/2 year old internet companies
still on the internet, AND debt-free, to boot?? Why
are they seeing 1000's join everyday, and over
300,000+ members saving money on discounted shopping??
Also, how can they offer their VIP Members all those great
benefits (dental, vision, automotive discounts,
travel, etc.) if they aren't a healthy and prospering
company?
DHSC just saw their biggest and best month (December)
when December has traditionally been the slowest month
of the year!! They saw more VIP Members promoted at
that time than ever before in their history!
I'm sorry this is so lengthy, but it really makes me
mad that "Shawn" would so blatantly spout off about a
genuine and caring company like DHSC when he has
neither the proof or information to back up the wild
claims he has made!!!
As you can tell from Darrell and Virginia's comments,
as well as my own, this really does work!! It is the
first of many opportunities that I have found that is
honest, upfront and caring to their members and the
public in general.
As to your question to Virginia, Bogdan, the benefits
are WAY too numerous to list in a small publication,
you wouldn't print it due to space, but it is all
there to be seen at the dhsclub's website. Since joining is
free, it wouldn't cost you anything to see for yourself
anyway! There are NO Commitments, NO Obligations and
NO Hidden Catches!!
Thank you very much for you time.
God Bless,

Subject:Programs & Spamming
Hi Bogdan,
Thomas Deitz here, Your Discussions just keep getting better and better. I had
several comments to make concerning your Jan 18 issue #220 but I'll just keep
it to one in particular. -Vlassis- Subject: Programs & Spamming
I would definitely have to agree with Vlassis (Ouch the truth really does
hurt) concerning the issue about Spamming. I've been working extremely hard to
get my Internet business off the ground and everyday I receive no less than
50 to 100 Spam messages. Approx 80% are from "Going Platinum" members.
Vlassis comment that Spam really does work must be the truth because
"Stupid me" actually joined "GP" and I'm a paying member no
less. To date
I have yet to receive any "Real" value from my GP membership.
(and no checks either)
I do not like to cause trouble for anyone because I'm a firm believer that
what comes around goes around. But I've been hit with more than a few
E-bombs containing these Spam letters. I've made Several Complaints only
to find that I was wasting my time. I've found that the very best solution is
the Delete button.
Vlassis suggests that I ad these Spammers to my mailing list however I feel
that would drop me down to their level. I'm taking Roberts side on this one
because I to am getting very upset with the garbage overloading my inbox.
Until next time,
Best Regards,
Thomas Deitz

Subject:Who reads my newsletter?`
Welcome to the world of publishing Tom!
At times it certainly seems as though we're the lone voice in the wilderness
and there's no-one out there listening/reading. I don't know how you're
getting you're subscribers. If they're sending you a "subscribe
me" email
or filling in a form on your site that is specifically soliciting
subscriptions for your newsletter then it is a little strange. (to my mind
anyway). But then I've had people subscribe to my newsletter several times
in a week, using the same email address, and when questioned about it they
didn't reply. So there you have it - who knows what some people are thinking
when they subscribe to a newsletter and then don't bother to read it or
think that they are receiving spam.
Here's how I handle the "subject heading" for my newsletter. Like
yourself,
I indicate that it's from my ezine and what issue number it is. As well, I
usually include a headline or the name of the main article. I try to make it
as interesting as possible so that even if someone is bored or overwhelmed
with email that day, they can't help but be curious or interested. I know
when I'm hitting the nail on the head because that's when I get a rash of
new subscribers; most of my readers come from referrals from their friends.
Like other forms of advertising, I would chalk this up to the cost of doing
business. Not everyone that gets a newspaper, watches TV, listens to the
radio, gets your mail or email... is going to act upon your offer let alone
see it.

Subject:Any suggestions to increase my business flow .
I've been on the "sidelines" watching..
And learning I might ad. I signed up for a web site, then took my
advertising
to all areas.
So far, this newsletter is the best I've seen . I do use
http://powerpromotion.net/09629
for my advertising, as well as
http://thesimplesystem/at.
cgi124851/resellers.htm .
I have had problems although as far as visitors to my site.
Any suggestions to increase my business flow ? I do have several FFA sites. They
have helped. Unfortunately, I DO NOT have much faith in Going Platinum . Nor do
I have the monies to venture into something that's a gamble.
Thanks for the great Newsletters. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely, JoAnn Martin

Subject:Hamster
Hi,
I'm new to posting to this newsletter, so I hope I get
this right!
A good while ago, I joined an affiliate called
hamster.com It was a "pay per click" program. I lost
my password, and after many, many times of emailing
them, I got no response. I know I had made more money
than what they were claiming I had made. When I tried
to get them to send my password to check the status, I
never received a reply. I tried emailing them for
about 4 months. After finally threating to sue them, I
finally got a response, but I still didn't get my
password. I had to send two more letters about a
lawsuit before I was finally able to get into the
stats. They showed me with about a dollar more than
what I had 4 months previously. Which I know was
wrong, but I had no way to prove it. I finally gave
up, (which I should have done a lot sooner) and took
all of their banners off my website.
Now I just got an email from them saying they are
starting something new. To make this long email short,
I am warning everyone, please do not join this
program! They are rip-offs, and their support is a joke.
Their url is, or at least was....http://www.hamster.com
That's my 2 cents worth. I hope that if anyone else
gets this offer, that they beware!
Thank you,
Peggy

From:Adam Maines
Subject:http://AKFerretRescue.homestead.com
Hello everyone,
My name is Adam. I have been a subscriber for a
while now, but I have just
kind of "lurked" in the background. I've been trying to do things all
by myself
(big mistake). My wife and I run a ferret rescue in Central Pennsylvania. I was
wondering if readers could review our website
at: http://AKFerretRescue.homestead.com
and give me some feedback.
We have been operating for about a year now and have had our
website up
since September. We have only had 300+ visitors in all that time.
Any advice
would be greatly appreciated. Now that I've come out of my shell, I'm asking
for all the advice and help I can get.
Thank You, Adam Maines

=====================Site Review Response (1)===============
From:Edward "Mr. Ed" Mayo
Subject:http://thefishermanspond.com
To the Fisherman,
Well, this is a site that needs work. I compare this site to running
into the crash barrels when you can't decide which way to chose when
coming to a fork in the highway at high speeds.
As the name implies, it's a fishing site. But you get lost immediately
with the promotion of "fishing for opportunities" Serious
fishing fans
are going to be turned off immediately. People looking for
opportunities will not appreciate the site either. You are trying to be
too much to too many. If you want an opportunities site, then split it
off into another site and link the two together as sister sites. Focus
and you will have a better chance at succeeding.
Here are some tips:
Make it a fishing site. Try to create value by letting people submit
their pictures and stories (which you do, but expand it). Add fishing
tips that you have, as well as letting others be guest writers (may be
tough at first to get people, but use resources you know). Find new
fishing holes and highlight how to "angle" them. Let others share
their
expertise of certain fishing holes. Run contests or some sort of
promotion to get people to submit information. Find tackle and supplies
you can resell on the side. Make product evaluations and reviews.
These are ideas to think about. You can have a links pages called
opportunities, but don't make this site a focus on them. Fishing will
be your strength, so use it for this site.
Your reciprocal links idea is good but a form would be better than a
page with an email link. Also, the main page needs to be re-designed.
Use a standard sidebar menu layout with your main message to the right.
You want to allow the visitor to see what your site includes easily (the
links) and see what you have to say (main message) in the first screen
they see. Promote your reviews, products (fishing related), fishing
stories in this main section. The vertical format is hard to follow
with cantered text and unappealing due to lack of interest building
devices. Be short and concise. On following content pages, you can
lace them with ads and recommendations to generate revenue for
yourself. Even making references to your opportunities pages would be
acceptable. But don't be over-bearing with the promotion.
I enjoy fishing, but this site was little worth to me as it sits. Make
these changes and you will have a great site. Free scripts are
available to do some of the things I have mentioned. As far as design
tips, you can always ask for advice after you make these changes, but
don't use clashing colors. Darker earth tones, would be best and would
appeal to the target audience. After all this should be an outdoors
oriented site.
This is some ideas, so I hope you find them useful. I think this site
has potential for much more than what you have done so far. So, don't
be too discouraged by my review. A light burns at the end of the
tunnel.
A Friend,
Edward "Mr. Ed" Mayo

Subject:http://thefishermanspond.com
Why is it that people must know how "bad a review" they can generate
or "how
bad their web site is?" This list is definitely the place to seek advice
and
reviews or critiques; many of us have benefited greatly from this forum.
Many of us help out our fellow webmasters/netrepeneurs one way or another,
that we meet here. The vast majority of people here are not out to bash
anyone, so when you ask for critique please ask with confidence.
Confidence - It's what you must have in order to succeed in business. If you
don't have confidence in yourself or your product then why should anyone
else?
Now about your site. I really only have one comment and that is, you should
do some studying about the subject of Meta Tags. They aren't a magical
solution but without them you're seriously at a disadvantage. Here are some
resources to get you started:

=====================Joke of the Day (1)===============
A young man from the city went to visit his farmer uncle. For
the first few days, the uncle showed him the usual things -
chickens, cows, crops, etc. After three days, however, it was
obvious that the nephew was getting bored, and the uncle was
running out of things to amuse him with.
Finally, the uncle had an idea. "Why don't you grab a gun,
take the dogs, and go shooting?"
This seemed to cheer the nephew up, and with enthusiasm, off
he went, dogs in trail.
After a few hours, the nephew returned.
"How did you enjoy that?" asked the uncle.
"It was great!" exclaimed the nephew. "Got any more dogs?"
