1.The Craziest Internet Business Idea in History
By Mark Joyner

================== Word from publisher ====================

Greetings All

Welcome  450 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

                                ----===(*)===-----

Hello everybody.

This was the longest period of time between the issues of Adland
Digest since its inception.  As some of you might already know,
we had problems  with bandwidth recently due to spammer and
consequences of ISP action and recently there were more new
problems with another ISP who due to configuration problems
disabled traffic to our sites from certain locations and our traffic to
those locations like sending email. In addition this all happened
during major upgrade of the AdlandPro site and physical move
of the office which will be completed  on 16th of this month.

This should be enough to explain absence of Adland Digest to
loyal subscribers who started to inquire recently what happened.
To cut it short and save some bandwidth, Adland Digest will
resume regular activity after move to the new location of
our office equipment after 16-th of April.

Since we are still  experiencing bandwidth limitations, I'm just
providing link to the current  issue of Adland Digest.

Till next issue

Subject:Tracking Software

Tom Ceely (issue 236) asked for
"a software program or anything similar that will
help me keep track of my advertising without
 having to join another program"

I can recommend two which I have listed
in my article
"How to track your website visitors"
http://www.supertips.com/r/adland.htm

You'll notice that the above is a tracking
Url which will allow me to view details
at any moment in time of all hits resulting
from this posting - such is the power of an
ad tracking system.

And it took about 10 seconds to set up !

Subject:Free Hosting

I heartily agree with you "Mister ED".

Free hosting is a reasonable place to test the waters. It is however not a fair
test. I have been actively working (full time) on the Internet for 5 years. I
started when html was really easy but very limited.

When someone opens a business in town, do they look for a store that rents for
free. Even Flea Markets charge for a booth. The big issue is credibility. Unless
you are willing to invest in your online business, no one is going to believe
you are successful.

Good hosting is so inexpensive these days. Shop around. I know where you can get
an excellent hosting package (800 megs) for $1.00 US for the first month. I will
not use the digest to advertise, so if anyone wants to know more, just email me.
(rkeating@inetimage.com)

I offer a free homepage on my site. I do this to get people interested in
starting a business. I have looked at all of the sites as they are created. How
does anyone expect for someone to believe that they are successful and want to
buy from them when they are too cheap to create a professional site?

Just my opinion.

Reply to Alan Armitage (Philippines)
for a free webhosting company....

I believe you won't get this anywhere else on the net.  Free 75mb webhosting
with full cgi, ssi and pre-installed cgi scripts for guest book and intra-search
engine.  Price:  free  Down side:  You have to get at least 500 page hits a day
in order to upgrade for more space.  If you don't meet this term, they would
still continue hosting your site but they won't offer you the upgrade for more
web space.  By the way, 75mb is A LOT of space to work on a relatively
new site so you can put in as many pictures  and web pages as you can.

If you don't have a registered domain name, opt for a short sub-domain.

If you happen to get in touch with Daniel, the webhoster, let him know I
recommended you.  I do not receive any monetary compensation for referring him
and am doing this because he gave me a sub-domain on the very day I requested
for one.  Fast and easy set-up.

I am still waiting for namezero to release my domain name for the present
webhoster.  Full details at http://ezine.ajunksiteofresources.com

From:Melody
Subject:Gateway pages

Debra Glinsey asks in Issue #236:
"Is there anywhere that you can learn how to write gateway pages?
I would like to know what to put in the title, I know the key words I
would use but what kind of subject (title) should be used.  Should
you just make a title that contain your keys word or what, or do you
use a title at all on the gateway pages?"

I don't like gateway pages in the traditional sense of creating one
page as a gateway for each search engine/directory.

Which sounds better to you...
-- Creating individual gateways for each search engine permutation?
or
-- Creating targeted pages that will do well in many search engines/
directories, AND with your customers.

Personally, I find the second targeted approach to be much easier
to start with and saves a lot of time.  If you have tons of time to learn
about search engine algorithms and other concepts needed for true
gateway pages, that's great, but my guess is most AdLanders are
small operations that are already overworked.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1.  Don't think "gateway" -- think "targeted" instead.
The idea is to keep every single aspect of that page focused tightly
on one idea or concept.  Don't try to convey everything your site has
to offer on this page, that's not what it's for.

2.  The TITLE and DESCRIPTION tags are the most important.
A strong title and description supported by the text of the page is key.
Definitely use a title.  Repeat the title and use either Bold or a Heading
tag at the top of your HTML.  Repeat the description in your HTML too,
as a abstract of the page, or work it into your introduction.

3.  Pull out KEYWORDS from the actual text.
If it isn't in the text, it doesn't belong in your keywords.  Think about
that "targeted" concept again.  Pick a few words/phrases that you are
trying to convey with this SINGLE page, not your site, that one page.
These words will probably be in your title and description too.  If not,
work them in to the title or at least the description.

4.  Include LINKS.
Link out to your homepage and at least one other page.  Link in to
this page from no more than one level deep on your site - either from
your homepage OR from a sitemap (that is linked on your homepage).
Stand alone pages do not do as well.  Search engines/directories
love links in and links out.  Do not be afraid to link to related sites,
especially if they are quality -- you can use that later to try to get a
reciprocal link from them which will also help your ranking in many
places.

How it has worked for me:
My homebiz website was approached by Inc.Magazine for a link and
listed as a "Site of Interest" in return.  Why? Because I rank well for
several related terms and have several targeted pages they liked
http://www.inc.com/about/site/sites_of_interest/0,7467,,00.html
I'm also a home business resource at About Entrepreneurs:
http://entrepreneurs.about.com/cs/homebusinesses/index_2.htm
and other places like Idea Cafe http://www.ideacafe.com/

So, don't worry so much about gateways as you do about targeting.
There is always time to create gateway pages after you get the
simple targeted pages created.

Melody

Subject:Question on advertising

Dear Terry,

I remember when I was a kid (how many decades ago was that?!) that I LOVED to
look at the ads on the back of the receipts from grocery stores.  Absolutely
adored it.  I think the only reason that I don't continue such a practice now is
that because no one in my area (College Station, Texas) does it.  I think it's a
fabulous way to advertise offline.

I must point out, however, that just because people see your ad does not
necessarily mean they will immediately buy from you.  If you are looking to
advertise as a way to increase your sales, you might be disappointed.  If you
are looking to advertise to increase you public exposure, I think it's a great
way to go.

Best wishes,
Kristen Clancy

Subject:More hits?

I visited your web site (great site!) and have a question regarding getting
more hits - actually I have two questions:
(1) I have recently had a friend recommend to me a website traffic program
called clicks4u.com and was wondering if it were so great
(he says it is rated the best traffic program by webmastercentral.net - 5+ stars!) .
Why you do not have the program mentioned on your webmaster links.
Do you think it would be worth joining or are there better programs around?
(2) Do you have any suggestions where can I find a full
list of programs that will help me increase my traffic?

=====================Site Review Response  (1)===============
From:Andy Sparks
Subject:http://www.nutritionsuccess.com

Hi Florence;

Its Andy, your friend in the balloon bursting business.  Actually you are on the
right track, you just are not there yet.  I looked your site over and in my
opinion you need to make some changes.  I would like to start with the good
stuff.  You have your own domain and you have no graphics to slow down your
site.  You have access to a secure server/shopping cart, that is a very good
thing to have.  Overall, I liked your site, but I don't think it will sell
vitamins like it is.

Your site is written from your perspective and you are telling people about your
product.  Telling is not Selling. The first thing you see is Nutrition Success
at the top of the page, that does absolutely nothing for anyone, neither you or
the buyer benefit from that.  You should have a question is large print there.
Would you like to improve your Health? or an affirmation like, We can help you
reach your goals!

Is March going to be marvellous for you when I buy something?  Unless I was going
to deliver products free and in person, I would not mention delivery in my
welcome message because it reminded me of shipping charges.

Your next paragraph is a classic and very common  mistake in sales.  You tell
who the product is for and then you tell them what to do.  Ask them a question
that reminds them of a problem and suggest a solution using your products.  Are
you so busy that you skip meals or eat junk food?  Are you aware what you are
doing to your body and general health when you skip a meal?  We have products
that will provide excellent nutrition without costing you a minute on your
busiest day!

Then ask another question and resolve that problem with one of your products.
Where you have a numbered list, you should use the same process as above. Do you
have to threaten your children with physical violence to get them to take their
vitamins?  You  children will beg for our yummy fruity chewy delicious Dinomins.
(that is a little over the top but this is an example)

You have one very serious problem that is a deal killer and most likely stops
you new customers cold.  You have two different links that promise more
information.  A catalog link by its own nature promises an item description and
you have a text link that says Click Here to find out more.  Both links take you
straight to an order page where the new person has no idea what they are buying.
I have no idea what a gold double snack pack is and why is it worth $77.70?  I
won't buy until I know.

If you are going to have a catalog, then make one.  Have a description of the
item and its benefits (not its features) and a link to the order page.  When I
click on the catalog and then click on weight loss programs I should get a
description  and maybe a thumbnail picture of the product before you try to
close the sale.  Go look at Amazon.com after you search for a subject you get a
description and maybe a picture of the book and an opportunity to buy.  You can
keep your same shopping cart page, just make a catalog page in between.  It
shouldn't be elaborate, just good.

Never put under construction on any page ever.  Go join Bogdan's affiliate
program with Adland Pro and Free Bonanza, then send the people from your tips
page to Free Bonanza or Adland Pro Free Classifieds and Bogdan will pay you for
the traffic.  Wait a minute, sign up under me!  I almost forgot to make a sales
pitch!

http://www.freebonanza.com/partner.asp?ref=16277

If you sign up for one you are in both.  If you are already a member, you know
what to do on your tips page.  I feel like I hammered you but my intentions are
good.  If you try my ideas and they don't work, I will give you a one year
unlimited real estate advertising account at

The Craziest Internet Business Idea in History
ByMark Joyner

So, you've got a great Internet business idea. Yeah, I'm talking
to you. You know who you are. You have this great idea that
you love to brag about. You tell all of your friends how it's
going to make you a millionaire.

And to you, oh great generator of ideas, I say:

So what!

I know (literally) hundreds of people that come up with million
dollar ideas on a daily basis. I can count on my hands, however,
the number of those people that have actually achieved a
respectable level of success with those ideas.

What about you? Are you sitting there feeling good about
yourself with that great idea of yours or are you actually doing
something about it?

Now, before you answer that question, be honest with yourself
about what you want. Some people, it seems, are satisfied just
having people pat them on the back for having such a great idea.

What about you? Is the pat on the back enough? If so, stop
reading right now. I'm just going to waste your time if that is the
case.

However, if you're one of the elite few that genuinely has what
it takes to turn that idea into money, read on.

--- Point of No Return Starts Here ---

Still with me?

OK, then. Let's get started.

1. Pick one idea.

Decide right now that you want to turn this idea into money and
try not to get bogged down in other ideas.

You're going to come up with hundreds of other ideas before
you see this one to completion. Resist the temptation to treat all
of them equally. You will be tempted to pursue every single idea
you have. This is the kiss of death. You need to narrow your
focus. That's the key to success.

2. Stop rationalizing.

Somewhere along the way you're going to say to yourself: "This
idea isn't working because it's not the best idea. I should have
picked another."

Rubbish! This is the lazy part of your mind trying to give you an
excuse for quitting.

Don't quit. You don't know that the "other idea" is better.  You
*can't* know this.

Drive on.

3. It's the marketing, stupid.

You should spend more of your time marketing than on any
other task. In the course of running your business, it's easy to
get caught up in a million idiotic things.

For example: "Which color paint do you think would look best
in the ladies room? Pink or mauve?"

Who cares! Make little decisions quickly, or pass them to
someone else.

If you are not spending 90% of your working day on marketing,
something is wrong.

Fix it!

Now, you can say to yourself: "Of course he's right -- I don't
need Mark Joyner to tell me all these things" and then forget
everything I've said.

Or...

Or, you can get started right now. I think you know which path
leads to wealth and success. The question is, do you really want
it?
