Greetings All

----===(*)===-----
Spamming is very controversial issue and discussion in this issue of
Adland Digest is best example of it.
I myself never spammed, but was affected by this problem in several
ways. Mostly by people who abused my services through spamming
or those who are trying to eliminate spamming and are using
indiscriminate methods of fighting spam. Recently I was
contacted several times by one of my ISP's who told me to follow
up with spammer's ISP because he included link to my site in
his email. I spent several hours responding to my ISP' inquires,
contacting spammer's ISP and so on. Several days later the same
spammer used again link to my site in his email using another free
email
provider. I was contacted again by my ISP due to spam cops
report. I repeated all the steps. A few days later the same
spammer again included link to my site (one of about 30) using
another free email provider.
Does anybody see here any sense?
I have to pay for spammer's actions and he just gets another free
email as soon as he needs it.
Criminals can get away but people doing legitimate business are
asked to clean the entire mess.

Subject:Spamming & Spammers
Hi,
I agree that legitimate spam is a problem. But the
supposed cure is becoming worse than the disease.
Software programs such as spam cop and others have
made it too easy to post phoney claims.
I've been warned three times in the last week for
my articles being in ezines. Not for my ezine but
the ezines of others.
All the ezines where double opt-in so not only were
the complaints against them unjustified, but the
anonymous complainer can request that every url and
email address in the newsletter be warned.
There are authors right now setting up separate url's
to place in their resource boxes because of these
problems. Their are advertisers who have lost their
urls because their ads were in an ezine that was
turned in.
Their are small publishers losing their isp's because
they don't care whether there was actual spam or not,
they just shut them down.
The problem has been steadily increasing every day.
The best part is the real spammers don't get bothered.
It's the smaller marketers that don't know the system.
Spam cops position is it's not up to them to make sure
the reports are true, they just pass them to the isp's.
So if you want to fight spam come up with a valid system
that gives honest marketers a chance to protect themselves
from frivolous claims.

John Colanzi

Subject:Spamming & Spammers
Hi everyone,
I just read Peter Browne's feelings on spam, I had to agree.
People just hit the delete key and ignore spam.
But it must be stopped. You need to make an effort.
Are you being spammed?
It is amazing how many people actually have
no morals or business skills for that matter
and they spam you with stupid ads constantly.
Spammers are breaking the law.
One way to stop this annoyance is to report the
spammer. How? Easy. Report them to their ISP.
If you use AOL, you can also report them to AOL's
spam police and they will go after them also. To
report the abusers to AOL, forward the whole message
to: tosspam@aol.com, if another aol user is
spamming
you, you can also send to tosemail1@aol.com.
If you are being spammed by other ISP users, like
fake accounts at msn or yahoo, simply do the same
thing. Copy and paste the whole email including all
headers and all that junk at the bottom. Send the
total file to: abuse@yahoo.com or abuse@msn.com.
You can do this with most accounts even if they are
free accounts like we offer at XpectMore.com.
If this doesn't work, just send the spam to
webmaster@yahoo.com or service@yahoo.com
or
help@yahoo.com, etc. etc. You get the idea.
The point is to stop spam on the internet.
Many ezine publishers have been accused of spamming by
people who forgot they signed up for the ezine. So by
reporting real spammers, this will do some good for
legit ezines. With real spammers gone, people won't be
so quick to jump on legit mail that they forgot they asked for.
One great way to keep track of your ezine subscriptions
is to create an account just for the ezines.
We receive lots of subscribers who use words like
ezines@whatever.com or subscriptions@whatever.com
or
something like that. This way, they know all the mail
going to that one email account is something they
subscribed to and can easily keep track of.
We all need to help in the war on spam. Ignoring
the spammers is not the answer. I don't suggest that you
open every piece of spam and report it, although you should.
But why not take one or two today and report them to their
ISPs?

Whoa! hold up there just a minute Mr. Browne!
While I agree that some spammers are a problem, the analogy you use is almost
comically off base. What you describe is not the equivalent of traffic
(bandwidth) theft. Your analogy describes copyright infringement and fraud.
Those two issues are decidedly more serious than all but the most hardcore cases
of spam. A more accurate scenario would have been a new businessman slapping a
flyer on every car in the parking lot outside your store. In some cities there
are ordinances making that activity illegal. In many there are not. Just like
the spam issue. What is needed is a realistic definition of spam and enforcement
by the ISP's across the board. Leaving the decision to an end user (like
yourself) opens a Pandora's box of problems. Just suppose for a moment that you
received an email from me. Because we had not had a prior contact you choose to
report it as spam. You also choose to aggressively pursue what you have decided
is appropriate punishment. I get shut down. My business gets ruined. For a short
time you are happy. However, because I am the kind of person that will seek to
restore my reputation...I investigate what REALLY happened. Turns out that
someone had Hijacked one of my email accounts and was using it to spam. Well of
course I have something actionable with him, but now I also have something
actionable with you! and it is very likely your pockets are deeper than our
spammer.
Now I do realize that a professional like yourself would most likely do all of
the research necessary to insure that he reported the right person. But others
may not have the tools available or the wherewithal to use them. Throw in the
anti commerce vigilantes into the mix and this could actually create a bigger
problem than the one your trying to solve.
The real problem is that too many ISP's are taking the easy answer and letting
the end user decide what is and isn't acceptable. Then they kill a site when
someone complains. Problem with that is one man's treasure is another man's
trash.
What is needed is a specific definition of spam. Not the vague description (
reminds me of the Supreme Court's Ruling on Porn) we have now. And then the
ISP's to take the responsibility to monitor and restrict or terminate the
offenders.
Sincerely,
David Weed

Hello, In regards to Peter's SPAM issue. I agree that SPAM should be addressed
BUT I will never agree to shoot first then ask questions. Investigate it and
then take action. The father of the missionary family who lost his wife and
child due this type of action would agree with me. More action should be done to
educate new comers about the issue and innocent bystanders my be a little more
perceptive about spamming than the current procedures. What should be done is to
stop the selling of software that extracts addresses and those who sell those
millions of addresses to people who are not yet net savvy. Thanks all! Do not
SPAM!!

Subject:Spamming & Spammers
The SPAM issue has gotten way out of hand. All ezine publishers, and
anyone who
advertises in them are at risk of being charged with SPAM. Why??
Subscribers,
subscribe to ezines, agreeing to receive information from the ezine, then they
cry SPAM when they see a commercial advertisement.
I know two individuals who have been charged with SPAM, having their article in
an ezine with their sig-line, in which a subscriber charged EVERY SINGLE
advertiser in the ezine with SPAM. One of these individuals that had
written an
article, lost his webhost provider. The publisher of the ezine even
personally
contacted the webhost, but they still didn't re-instate his websites. This
is
plain ridiculous, when that subscriber, could have unsubscribed and could hit
the delete key.
This brings us to a better question. SPAM is supposedly defined as
unsolicited
commercial advertisement that comes in over the phone line to your inbox that
you didn't ask for. This is illegal. You can easily hit the delete
key.
TELEMARKETING, is unsolicited commercial advertisement that comes in over the
phone line to your phone, that you didn't ask for, and that TRULY interrupts
you, (I home school - and I get about 10 calls a day that interrupts us!), and
that is perfectly LEGAL?!! WHY??? How can we define SPAM as illegal,
and
TELEMARKETING as perfectly legal?? Shouldn't this be the other way
around???
Both advertisements are coming over the phone line!
Back to the issue of SPAM. I have set up a DISCLAIMER Subscriber Agreement
at
my site and in my ezines, updates and Solo Ads, that the subscriber WILL receive
commercial advertisements by subscribing to my ezine, and MAY NOT charge SPAM to
me or any advertiser advertising in my ezine, as they are agreeing to receive
the commercial advertisements and charging SPAM is not applicable under such
terms and conditions. They agree upon subscribing they have read the
agreement
and agree to it. This is a practice I suggest every ezine publisher to
follow
to not only protect themselves, but to protect their subscribers who advertise
in their ezines.
If the ezine publisher's rights are not clearly defined in the near future,
we're going to see the deterioration of wonderful ezines being produced, for all
publishers will be in fear to publish any longer. Ezine publishers, we
need to
band together and fight for our rights!
Let's take a stand against untrue and unjust cries of SPAM!
In His Joy,
Seqkat

Maybe this isn't the right place to write this but I am pretty much fed up. I
have tried a couple of the offers I have
found on the net and feel like I have been ripped off. I have three web sites
( I think!) and two of them I have spent
hours and hours in advertising on the net and have not made a dime, although
with one there was a money back

me to not get a refund or a

Subject:Any Ideas??
My message is to fellow marketers trying to etch out a business for
themselves on the internet. It seems to me, everything that has been
presented to me for promoting my web site is just going to other marketers
that either "seen that and done that" and delete it. To make short of
this
subject, because it could very well be discussed further with another 30
lines of text. It seems, that the old way of advertising anything is by
word of mouth, or classified ads in the newspapers, or a sign stuck in
ground in the front yard for passer byers to see are the way to get to the
mass public. A little TV or radio here and there would be very expensive
and that's,(let me check my pockets) yes, that, is not the way for me to go
on my lush promotional budget. I would like some advice from the "so called
pros" and please don't come up with the idea of standing along the freeway
entrances (fighting for a spot with all the POWS,and out of work, need
money sign people)I already got the sign in the grass in front of the house
laid on me.I have seen many of business opportunities out there, and there
are new ones, people are coming up with on a daily basis. Just a few offer a

Dear all,
I have recently set up a site that sells ads in multiple ezines at an affordable
rate. Beside the major search engines, GoTo.com and the like, I am thinking of
using the Goggle AdWords Program to market my site. However, Goggle charges
advertisers for impressions, not click-throughs, thus I hope to get some honest
input from those who have used AdWords before regarding Goggle's click-through
rate per thousand impressions.
I also wish to hear some of your experience regarding the hits to sales
percentage with traffic that originated from Goggle.
Of course, I understand that different businesses and different products and
services may experience different performance with the same kind of advertising.
Nonetheless, I believe all the information supplied by you guys can help me make
a more informed decision as to whether to advertise with Goggle or not.
Since my site sells ezines advertising, I would also welcome any suggestions
regarding the best way to market an advertising service to online marketers.
Thank you for your time.

Hi Teresa;
If you are making $3,000 per month, you are doing very well with affiliate
programs. I looked you site over and it is very good overall. You
have a quick
loading page and it is focused and easy to read.
I hate pop-up windows, but that is my personal opinion. Pop-under windows
are
less intrusive. Under your business opportunities link, I think you should
have
a longer description and a personal recommendation instead of one line saying,
join this. You start very well with a description and recommendation for
outsource 2000, I think you should do something similar for each of your
affiliate programs.
I doubt that you will get very many people to post their ideas on a board.
The
idea of having a board and a public forum is excellent. I don't think
people
will post their ideas, because someone else could steal them. You would
have
better results if you changed the topic.
You probably have the best site I have reviewed for the Digest. Your
business
services page should have a sales letter and a better description of what you
do. If you have some testimonials from past clients, place them on that
page.
Testimonials are powerful.

You Can Drive More Traffic To Your Website!
ByJohn Colanzi
Are you looking for a free method of developing a steady
flow of traffic to your site?
Dumb question, isn't it?
Have you ever thought about how many ways you can use
informative articles to increase your traffic? A good
article can get you a lot of mileage.
Put together a collection of articles and you've got a
method to draw traffic to your site for months, even years.
Most marketers think of using articles as content on their
site and for submission to ezines.
That is truly only the tip of the iceberg. Although you'll
draw traffic if you stopped there, you're using less than
half the power of good content.
Submitting articles to ezines will bring a short rapid
boost in your traffic, but that's just a short term
solution. Stop submitting new articles and your traffic
slowly begins to decline.
So how to you take advantage of the long term pulling power
of your articles?
There are four simple steps you can take that will have
your articles driving new visitors to your site for months,
even years.
1. Submit your articles to the announcement lists. Not
only will many ezines pick up your article, but there are
many webmasters looking at these lists to bulk up their
sites content.
2. Submit your articles to all the sites that specialize in
content for publishers and webmasters. I've had articles on
these sites that I'd forgotten I'd even written until a
webmaster or publisher notifies me they are using them.
3. Offer webmasters in your niche market the free use of
your articles to beef up their content.
4. Once you've got 10 - 15 articles compile an ebook of
your article archives. Give it a catchy title, allow it
to be freely transmittable and your articles will start
spreading all over the web.
Just by adding these four simple steps you've gone from a
one time spike in traffic, to a method of driving traffic
to your site for years to come.
Remember an article that's run two or three years ago is
still new to someone who's never read it. I've had
publishers contact me about articles that are two years old.
Take the time to develop a steady campaign of article
submission and you'll have your link on hundreds, even
thousands of sites.
What are you waiting for? Start developing your campaign
now! You'll be glad you did.
Wishing You Success,
John
