Greetings All

Welcome  280 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

                                    ----===(*)===-----

I have received several messages from subscribers asking
if they missed any issues of Adland Digest in recent days.

The answer is NO. You didn't miss any issues. Last digest
was sent on Jun 12.

I guess one could call it growth of business what is currently
happening here. There is more things to do that I'm able
to  take car of and digest had to be postponed a bit (although
this is not done by choice).

I hate to  interrupt  flow of discussion but I'm feeling that
situation is getting slowly under control as one more
person will be helping me starting next Tuesday.

Please consider this longer break as I would call it
"change of gloves"

=================Looking for Assistance URGENT=====================
From:Peter G. Browne

Hi Bogden,

I have a small request that I hope you might be willing to help with
and to see if your readers might help to make a difference.
Everyday children in North America are reported as missing and
some are found while a great percentage of them are not.
What we need is help in determining who a little girl is (was).

There is a murder case out of Kansas City that is not very
nice but then, when is murder ever nice. What makes this so
different is that nobody seems to know who this girl is. I will
not list the details of the crime here as not everyone might
want to read them as it is a very horrific case.
This little girl has been dubbed "Precious Doe" and the FBI
along with the Kansas City Police are trying to find out who she
was.

Somebody knows her either a relative, a neighbor, a friend.
If people would just go to http://www.preciousdoe.com they will
see a mock up of what Police think she might have looked like.
Yes a mock up if you want to know why a mock up then please
read the newspaper article links that you will find at the site.

As I said, I do not want to include the details of the crime in your
newsletter but ask that everyone look and that they send one other
person to look and ask them to send one other person etc. This
poor angel needs our help. We all talk about the POWER of the
Internet and how it works and now we have a chance to prove it.
Help solve the mystery of Precious Doe.

PLEASE NOTE : If you are not familiar with this case it is not pretty
but your help is needed.

I would like to thank everyone in advance and hope that we,
as people doing business on-line, can actually make a difference
and put the effort of making money or complaining about Spam
aside for a few minutes and help this darling little girl to find peace
in her demise.

Remember this child has not been reported as missing that we
know of and I for one have looked at over 2,000 images of missing
children looking for a match. Get people looking, use the power of
the net. If it makes a difference to people there is, I believe, a $10,000
reward being offered but if you want to try and get it you will have to find
out how. I just to solve this mystery and give this girls soul "peace in rest".

The owner of the site (one of my clients) is not making a penny from
this, he is trying to help, as we are now asking all of you to do.

Thank You All,
Peter G. Browne

Hi Bogdan,

I would just like to air my opinion on the Ad issue, which has arrived
of late. Firstly, we cannot escape Ads, they are everywhere. Secondly
how many of us buy products which we did not see from some kind
of an Ad? I have no problem on Ads being displayed on this list, quite
often  have I found myself buying certain specialist software on the net

by means of an Ad.

One recent purchase was Neo Trace Pro, it cost $29:00 to download
and register, and boy was it worth it! The reason for this purchase was
to find out and judge exactly what people and where they came from
and the pages they liked most amongst others, were linked to my web
site: http://www.thelosthaven.co.uk  it seems that I am being hit by
42 different countries and regular as well. A lot of these are also
responding to my Ads on my site. So, like everything we must move
on each time, and if Ads are to be attached , then hey! you have my
vote.

All the best,

From:Randolph M. Getchell
Subject:Paid subscriptions

Dear Bogdan:

I'm sure you don't recognize my name, but awhile back I was one of
those who got ripped off by the guys in Illinois guaranteeing substantial
incomes by just sending them a few hundred bucks for their website marketing
package.  At the time, I wrote you about it and I know that you were as much, if
not more, dismayed than I was.  I'm sure you remember that scenario.

Personally, I sincerely encourage you to keep your publication a free
subscription, with ads, because I never felt that Adland Digest was in any way
to blame for what these guys pulled even after being long time advertisers with
you.  I believe that those out there who feel that they have to put blame off
onto whoever they can, just because they came across a bad apple should fully
realize that there is just no way of knowing these days, when someone is going
to  jump ship with all the marbles.

Additionally, I doubt seriously that you will find anyone blaming the
Editor-In-Chief of a major magazine, or newspaper if the advertised product they
saw in their publication didn't pan out.  It's high time everyone needs to take
full responsibility for their actions and decisions.  In my case, I bought into
an advertisement that promised the world for a few hundred dollars.....and it
didn't work.  The boys flew the coop as they say with a bunch of money.  I have
only myself to blame, and have simply charged it off to education, and purchase
less and less from so-called "E-Merchants" selling anything online.  E-Merchants
all seem to be right there with their guarantees and secure payment forms to get
the money immediately.....yet if someone has a problem later....they all too
often disappear into "Cyber-Space".....somewhere, out there.  Their motto seems
to be "Just buy this package Jasper, it works!  I guarantee it!"

If serious on-the-level marketers have a problem with this attitude,
they might offer their sincere thanks to people like these fellows from Illinois
I speak of.  In the meantime, they might also create some solidarity between
themselves through associations and come up with some form of "Truth In
Advertising" authority and focus their attention and  some of their profits
toward making the Internet a more trustworthy marketplace.  The Editor/Publisher
of an ezine, newsletter or anything else should not be held accountable for what
individuals elect to put in their ads.  Keep up the good work, I find Adland
Digest a quality publication.

Sincerely yours,
Randolph M. Getchell

particularly informative.  There will always be complainers and whiners.
Goes with the humanity territory.  But, I hope you do not make any

suspect the vast majority don't either.  Like one of your contributors
said, just UNSUBSCRIBE. What's the problem here?  Thanks.  Sam

Hello Herb, I'm with you. What most people don't even
mention is the fact that when you turn on a cable or direct
T.V. set or rent a movie or DVD, go to the theater, you are
"FORCED" to sit through the commercials, ads and lame
attempts at humor to sell everything from aspirin to sex
hot lines. And then you probably pay through the nose for
lousy service to boot! Do you have them shut down? Do you
call their ISP and complain? When was the last time you
called Carls Jr. about that terribly gross commercial
regarding "if it doesn't get all over the place" ads? I
like burgers but when I am eating a steak and I see this
person being a pig it makes me want to throw up. Is this
reason enough to have Carls Jr. pull everyone of their ads
off my T.V set, so I do not have to look at them? No! How
long would the battle be? Do people think they would win??

I really appreciate a quality e-zine like Adland and I
would like to keep it free. I have so little money to spend
on advertising and keeping online and the hosting, that I
would not be able to pay for this, And would miss all the
great information and products I have gotten from this
e-zine. E-zines are better than T.V and all the rest,
because if I am not interested in receiving it anymore I
simply unsubscribe or delete it. Simple and deadly
quick compared to calling all the lawyers hired by Carls
Jr.

Question: Is is a fact that there is to much advertising in
E-zines on the web? Or is it a case of people are just
plain tired of not having a voice offline and have found
that their index finger holds a lot more power than they
thought online, Like kids with a new toy have yet to figure
out how to control it, so they over use and abuse it,
forget that there are real people on the other side of the
message that will be hurt by their actions.

Well Herb, I could continue to agree with you on this but I
think my point is clear. Offline, we are all the little guy
at the mercy of the big burgers. But online? My delete
finger is itchy! Don't make me click it! The power is mine!

Real warnings have the URL of an antivirus vendor.
Real warnings are not sent on all caps and do not

They have already paid the affiliates for me, and the set up Charges

From:Pamela Freeman
Subject:Multi-Level marketing is a very legitimate form of marketing.

I rarely write in regarding anything, as I honestly just
don't have the time, but after reading Ms. Caroll's post
I felt I had to speak up as she is perpetuating a problem
that affects my ability to earn a living.

Please don't get me wrong, I fully believe Ms. Caroll and
everyone else is welcome to their opinion. But to
wholesale cut down an entire industry because she
has had a problem with a few people that MAY have
been involved in that industry is akin to refusing to
speak to a couple from another country that moved
in near you or refusing to shop at a store because
the new check-out attendant is handicapped.

It is a form of discrimination based on a lack of
knowledge. Plain and simple.

Multi-Level marketing is a very legitimate form
of marketing. Just like any other form of business,
it has people that has abused it. However, if we are honest
with ourselves, it doesn't take much looking to find
bad eggs in EVERY type of business there is.

Could it be Ms. Caroll has had a bad experience
with someone from this field? I'm sure she has. Her
chosen form of business puts her in the lime light and
since the chosen headlines and titles on her site sound
exactly like many of the ads placed by people in
the MLM field, I'm quite sure she has a larger than
average percentage of contacts from people in the
industry.

Even Ms. Caroll's chosen profession has it's bad
apples. I sadly learned this from personal experience.
But does that mean I go around bad mouthing
site designers? Perhaps I should start.

I have personally been ripped off by car repair men,
the people that installed our fence, air conditioning
people, pharmacies, insurance agents, etc. Even
Walmart and Kroger are known to overcharge or sell
a bad gallon of milk or spoiled steak at times. If everyone
in business were honest and legit, there would not
be sites on the internet where you can post your
complaints about companies.

Sites such as screwedcentral.com, complaints.com,
planetfeedback.com, the Better Business
Bureau and others could not exist if there were not
lots of problems in every type of business.

I personally believe every business should at least
look over ads before they post them. A little common
sense goes a long way in preventing problems.
But to discriminate against an entire industry and
at the same time use extremely similar attention
getting tactics, is discrimination at it's worse.

Thank you
Pamela Freeman

Subject:Pay per lead vs pay per sale affiliate programs.

I have been promoting affiliate programs for a while and I am switching from pay
per sale affiliate programs to pay per lead programs when possible.  My web site
is about real estate, so I have a page where people can obtain a mortgage and
hopefully save money via the Internet.

When I first started promoting mortgage affiliate programs, I chose pay per sale
because I saw those $300 and $500 commissions and thought that was a very good
thing.  I have yet to collect one of those commissions.

I found a mortgage affiliate program that paid $12.00 US per lead and I have
collected three of those.  I am not the sharpest pencil in the box, but I'll
take $36.00 US over zero any day.  I am an Adland Pro Affiliate as well as Free
Bonanza affiliate and I like the fact that you pay per click as well as per
sale.

The Adland Digest is the only newsletter I read word for word and I have learned
a lot from the Digest, but the Digest has become self absorbed lately.  The
Digest is almost becoming a thing of its own instead of a teaching and sharing
tool.  I have noticed that most of what we discuss in the Digest lately is the
Digest.  I am sending this in to try to start a discussion that will benefit the
new members of the Digest.  If someone hasn't been around for a while, they
might think all we do is argue and never say anything worthwhile.

Bogdan, I know this has been a challenging time for you with spammers and all
the upgrades to Adland Pro.  I really like the changes to the Adland Pro site.
The free ad tracker for Free Bonanza affiliates is wonderful.  I want to thank
you for all your past and future help.

Keep up the good work.

AIM, YIM, member website links, the ability to send a message to all members
from within by the administrator, filtering of "bad" words, multiple categories
with multiple boards in each, etc.... Lots more too. It is template driven from
a few cgi scripts and very very easy to get up and running.

Subject:Looking for a fair and honest Webmaster

Hello Bogdan and AdLandPro Subscribers,
I am in need of your assistance. My background is marketing and advertising.
However, I decided to have an affiliate ecommerce website built to offer my
services. The problems is, I did not take my own advice (don't you hate when
that happens!) I did not research the company I decided to use to build my web
site. The one website they showed me that they built and their "reasonable cost"
were the deciding factors to use their services. To make a long story short, 9
months later I have an incomplete website--one page. No one is returning my
emails or my phone calls (one returned email in three months, June 7th was their
last email). They have an 800 number that now gets picked up with voice mail
only. I am at the point of threatening them by filing a complaint with the BBB
and the Attorney General. How can I contact their ISP provider to further my
threat and to let them know I am serious? They've been paid and I have no
website. I don't want anyone else to suffer the same problems with this company
that I have, as they are still promoting their services all over the net. I have
two request,
1) what can I do to resolve this or at least get my money back.

2) Does anyone know of a professional webmaster that is reliable, can create
self-replicating websites, banner rotations and all the necessary
functionalities of an ecommerece affiliate web site. And can do this in a
reasonable amount of time at a reasonable price?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ronald Webb

Subject:Without the firewall I wouldn't ever found out about this attack

Just to let everyone know that sometimes the GOOD-GUY can still win, I would
like to share with you a mail I received from a friend from Germany this week.
............
"The hacker attack from the 5th June was very serious. This guy tried to
steal all my affiliate ID's and passwords to direct my commissions to
himself. Thanks God, the police caught him. I had to change all my
passwords. On the 28th of June I have to witness before Court against this
criminal.
My system was seriously damaged. I lost a lot of data and all my Javascript
was screwed up. My ISP was also attacked by this guy. T-online is the
largest ISP here in Germany. They also lost a lot of data and about a third
of their servers had to be placed out of service. So my DSL-connection is
not as fast as usual.
The programmer of my firewall got a serious crisis. The firewall tracked the
guy all the way back to his home, but it was not able to block the attack.
We now work on this matter. My firewall was even better than the one my ISP
used! The police was very happy that the firewall located this criminal .
They were really fast to arrest him. 70 minutes after the attack he was in
prison! I think that is where this guy will stay for next four or five years.
They found data from at least 500 victims. It is so sad, that such a person
can hurt so many people.
Without the firewall I wouldn't ever found out about this attack and a lot
of money would have disappeared.
So my advise is, protect Yourself against such criminals.
We stay in contact. take care of Yourself and always keep smiling! :)
Your friend
Stefan

show's that you can never be too careful, and that it doesn't matter how 'big'
you are, these days we are all vulnerable.
Keep safe,

Subject:Finding Absolute Gems in the Forums

I find that the best place by far to get
an immediate response to any question is to
use one of the numerous marketing forums.

You can ask for advice on a marketing tactic,
a software tool, an affiliate program,
HTML, search engines, Ezine publishing
... in fact anything.

Also by posting a response to a question you
can of course promote your site with an
effective signature.

The number of useful tips I have picked up is
beyond measure.

But there's one problem.

You can spend 24 hours a day engrossed in
the postings.

Thankfully one enterprising lady, Lesley Fountain,
had the brilliant idea of searching through all the
forums for us, selecting the best postings
and publishing them twice a week.

She has been doing this for 9 months as a free
service but recently announced a paid subscription
- which will allow her to provide an even better
service, if that's possible.

I joined immediately.
It's one of the few times I have gone to a site
having decided in advance that I would make a
purchase without even knowing the price.

I am listing here my affiliate link

Take a look at a sample issue - but remember
to get back to your work.

Subject:The New Buzz Word Is "Mini Sites"

Mini sites are becomingly increasingly popular
and for good reason.

A typical mini site will focus on one particular
theme. If you provide plenty of useful information
you will start to become known as the expert in this
field and you will find other sites linking to you as
a useful resource.

It is essential to have a domain name which is
both memorable (so that visitors will return and
refer it to others) and relevant (i.e containing
keywords which fit your theme).

The future trend for search engines is to give
higher prominence to pages at a site which have
a common theme.

In addition the editors of the submission directories
(Yahoo, Looksmart, Open Directory) are looking for
such information sites as opposed to blatant ad pages.

And how do you profit from such a site ?

You include links at the appropriate points in your
content to products which you either own or promote
as an affiliate.

A more drastic example of a mini site is where you
just have one page - an order page. This page
concentrates exclusively on getting your customer
to make the purchase. There are no other distractions,
no external links to other resources, no unnecessary
graphics.

Such a site deserves a special sort of hosting
system. The key requirements are a simple tool
for a beginner to create a web page, reliability
(uptime) and security.

You don't need lots of other extras and in particular
you don't need massive disk space. There's no point in
having 30Mb storage if you only need a hundredth of
that for your one page so ideally you should be able to
pay a corresponding fraction of the price - but this is
not the case.

This anomaly has so far proved a deterrent for
those who want to set up a simple one page mini site.

At last however one company has identified this
need and have produced the first system geared
only to Mini Sites.

It's well worth a look at

Hi,

I have a personals site at http://personals.thehot50.com and
would like for Digest readers to review it. I am prepared for
bad as will as good. :>)

The digest is a great resource, however I would have to give
it some thought in regards to a paid subscription.

Subject:http://www.searchezee.com/

Hi,

This is in response to Anil's site request.  I LOVED it.  This is where I
will go from now on when I have a search and will certainly tell all my
friends about it.  What a convenience being able to just pick what search
engine you want without having to leave the site.  However,I would make the
search box a little larger.  It took me a minute to find it.  Some may leave
the site.  I guess we are all used to seeing a large search box and when it
isn't there it throws us a little.  Again, I thought the site is great.

Are You Guilty Of Being An "Information Overload" Junkie?
ByMary Holzrichter

If you're like me, perhaps you've been on the internet for
less than a year.  For those first few months, you pretty
much just surf around absolutely dumbfounded by all the
information available in cyberspace.  Wow!  After a while,
you actually feel yourself becoming addicted, and you
can feel yourself being transformed into (Oh, no!) a
"Mouse Potato".

Since you love this internet thing so much, you decide you
may as well earn some money while manoeuvring that mouse.
What a great idea!  My own home business!

You join as many freelance "work at home" job sites as
possible, sending out your resume to all of them, and
hoping that you'll land that perfect administrative-type
job.  Well, it appears that those jobs are few and far
between.  For every job opening, there are literally
thousands of applicants.  Unless you're a transcriptions,
have website design or techie skills of some sort, they
are next to impossible to land.

So, it's on to a new quest!

By now you are definitely determined to make money on the
internet.  So you go into a manic search for the perfect
affiliate program.  After an exhaustive length of time and
a few bad judgments, you settle on one or two that you
feel are right for you and that you believe in.

Onward!

In the meantime, you have it in your head that you need a
website.  When promoting your affiliate program, you
suddenly start noticing thousands of ads for information
on internet marketing.  Many of the ads are for marketing
newsletters.  Oh, my, look at all this information.  So you
start signing up for just about every newsletter.  Hm-mmm!
How to design a website, how to work the search engines,
how to get your ad to 600,000+ per day, how to write
effective ads, how not to write ads, how to make your
website sticky, how to publish your own newsletter, how to
be one of the 5% who make it through the first year, how to
not be one of the 95% who don't make it through the first
year, how to use autoresponders to run your follow-ups, how
to keep from having your ISP shut down by people yelling
"SPAM" at you, how to handle customer relations, how to do
viral marketing, how to brand your business, how to go about
campaign marketing, how to produce website traffic, and the
list goes on and on.

And I ended up spending most of my time reading them.
Sure, I learned a lot, but I don't even have a website yet!

Uh-Oh!  Now look what has happened!  You've got mountains
of printed out information on every imaginable subject,
your bookmarks are overloaded, your email folders are bulging,
AND you find you're not using any of it because you've got
SO much, you've forgotten about any of it specifically.
I won't even mention all those "had-to-have" eBooks.  The
heaps of paper are piled so high that it has become an
insurmountable task to go through them, and the bookmarks
have strange titles which don't ring a bell, some of the
emailed newsletters are still setting where you put them
to read more in-depth later, and you get to the point where
you wonder,

"What the hell am I doing?"

Sometimes you get so frustrated, you just want to drown it
all out in a flood of tears!

Time Out!

Has your mind become paralysed?  Have you lost all sense of
priorities?  Have you entered the "cyberland of no return"?

No, I don't think so.  There's still hope.

I realize I've painted myself into a corner.  I have to
leap over the wet paint to get out of this predicament.
I'm going about this all backwards.  I should only be
gathering that information which I need for building my
website.  The rest of the information can wait until I
reach that point.

And, YES, I'm an "information overload" junkie.

Here's what I'm going to do.

1.  Unsubscribe to any newsletters, no matter how good they
are, and face the fact that maybe I don't NEED that
particular information yet.  When I do, I can re-subscribe.
Anyway, I hope they'll let me do so!

2.  Get rid of all those bookmarks.  Only keep the ones I
recognize and use.

3.  Clean out my email.  If I haven't read it after six
months I'm never going to.

4.  Read only those eBooks I've downloaded that are relevant
to the actual building of a website.  The other ones can
just set there and wait.  Delete the ones I'll never use.

5.  Actually, start physically building my website.
Concentrate ONLY on building my website.  Stop just thinking
about it, and DO it!  I can always change it as I go along.
No one says it has to be the greatest thing since sliced
bread!

6.  I MUST get organized.  My computer room looks like
a tornado went through it.  When someone comments, "How
do you FIND anything?" my reply is, "As long as no one
touches anything, I know exactly where everything is".
And I "usually" do.  But since I'm going to "clean house",
I think I'll give the organization bit a try.  Who knows,
maybe I'll like it.  I'll keep the printed material that
is relevant to my needs, punch holes in it, and put it in
binders.  The rest goes in the car trunk to the recycling
center.

7. I'll even make a schedule for myself such as an allotted
time to read the ezines I'll continue to subscribe to.
An amount of time to work on my website.  An amount of time
to place ads.  An amount of time to read email and respond.
Oh, and only certain times to hit that "get new messages"
button.

Hopefully, once I've "cleaned house", I can get rolling
"forward" instead of "backwards" with a cleared-out mind.

No more "information overload" for me.  I've recovered!

=====================Joke of the Day   (1)===============

Did you hear about the teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students
put his boots on?

With her pulling and him pushing, the boots still didn't want to go on. When the
second boot was on, she had           worked up a sweat.

She almost whimpered when the little boy said, "Teacher, they're on the wrong
feet." She looked and sure enough,    they were.

It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on.

She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on --
this time on the right feet.
He then announced, "These aren't my boots."

She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, "Why didn't you
say so?" like she wanted to.
Once again she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off.
He then said, "They're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear them."

She didn't know if she should laugh or cry. She mustered up the grace to wrestle
the boots on his feet again.
She said, "Now, where are your mittens?"

He said, "I stuffed them in the toes of my boots..."
