Greetings All
Welcome to all new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.
----===(*)===-----
There were a number of articles submitted this week on the subject of
"Smart Tags" - too
many to fairly attribute a single Author, but it is a topic that Website owners
should be
aware of. Smart tags are a Microsoft development included in Office XP and
Internet Explorer 6
which is due for release in October.
Microsoft state:
"Smart Tags are a feature of Internet Explorer that add smart links to
pages you view.
Smart Tags enable real-time, dynamic recognition of content on Web pages and
offer you relevant options
as you work. By hovering and clicking on these smart links, you can get access
to additional information
or perform convenient Web tasks. For example, a Smart Tag might detect the names
of major companies on
the Web and tag them, allowing you to access stock quotes and company
information."
The concern that is widely expressed about these tags is that this allows
Microsoft to add links to any
website that were not intended by the author and potentially divert website
traffic to websites
determined by Microsoft. The spectre of Microsoft control of the Internet rises
again and adds
further fuel to the arguments of the anti-Microsoft lobby.
However, it is not (quite) that blatant. For a start, web authors can add a Meta
Tag to web pages to
prevent Internet Explorer from adding the smart links to their pages.
The code to add is:
<meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="TRUE">
Further, the use of Smart Tags can be controlled at the browser by simply
turning them off or on
in the toolbar. Internet Explorer does not come with Smart Tags installed, these
must be
downloaded from Microsoft or 3rd Party developers of this technology.
If you want further information on Smart Tags, you can read the Microsoft
statements at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/preview/smarttags/default.asp
or enter "Smart Tags" as a search query in your favourite Search
Engine.
Have a good week
Doug

From:Judith
Subject:I`ve tried several ways with no results.
Hello Bogdan & Everyone,
In regards to Rick's post:
Having no clue to the business opportunities you promote I
would like to talk about marketing versus advertising. Do not
spend your money until you've been on the Internet for awhile.
The reason:
You will probably be wasting your hard earned cash which could
be better spent paying bills while you build a viable business.
I've been on the Internet for almost three years with two
businesses and have not spent a dime on advertising. There has
been no need because I spent the time learning how to market.
And I would like to share some of what I learned to be
successful:
1. You must have a product. This means one you make or
produce. Not one someone else produces as you are just
expending your time and effort to make them richer. True you
might make a few bucks from commissions but this is usually not
enough to cover your Internet expenses.
When you have your own product, any sales you make are 100%
yours. This is not as hard as you might think. The product
you make should be something you are "passionate" about because
the time and effort to promote it is going to require
persistence and if you're not "passionate," you'll get
discouraged and quit.
2. Next, you should have your own domain name and pay for web
hosting. The reason:
You are building credibility. But, more importantly, you will
save yourself a lot of heartache. Free sites either don't stay
free for long with ad revenues drying up or they cease to
exist. Imagine putting in 6 months to a year getting your site
listed in all the major search engines and suddenly there is no
site. All the time and effort you expended was wasted. You
are back to ground zero because there is no way to direct
people to your new site's address.
Also do not go for web hosting companies that offer their
services for next to nothing. You will end up with the same
results as the free hosting companies. Look for companies that
have been on the Internet for three to five years and pay what
they ask. I use http://www.jumpline.com
3. When you build (design) your site, you should read two
articles I've written before you submit to search engines.
They will show you how to get a higher ranking. You can find
read them at http://www.agoodread.com ,
click on the navigation
box and click on free articles. Actually these articles
entitled "Search Engine Similarities" and "Gateway Pages My
Patootie" should be used by anyone who owns a site.
I just wrote a ebook "Make Your Site Spider Friendly" but I
only offer it through my subscription service. There is only
so much you can offer free and stay in business.
4. Next, in your marketing, you should be finding lists that
let you announce your site. Join them, follow their listing
requirements and you will reach hundreds of subscribers. Not
all will click over to your site but the ones who do will be
"targeted" visitors. I'd rather have 100 "targeted"
visitors
primed to buy my product than 1000 visitors that "sort of"
might be interested.
5. Also, learn how to write good articles. I have link pages
on my site which offer free software, tutorials, useful sites
but more importantly, writing sites links which will teach you
how to do this. If you already know how to put two words
together coherently, all the better. By submitting your
articles to sites and lists where ezine owners go to get their
content, you will reach thousands of people who will click over
to your site because of the resource box at the end of your
article. Plus you will have instant credibility which equates
to trust in your product.
6. Go to search engines and find message boards which pertain
to your product and post. Not spam but post useful answers to
the person's question. These boards usually let you put your
URL. When others read your informed responses, they will click
on your link. Another added benefit -- the link shows as a
reciprocal link and ups your "popularity rating" for search
engine placement.
The key to success on the Internet is not being in a hurry to
make big bucks. You are in this for the long haul. Think
about it -- if have a good product, build and market your
site -- then the money will come. The entire world is out
there to walk through your cyber door. Do you need them all --
no, only a small percentage.
Marketing will produce this -- not advertising. Don't
believe -- then why were there so many dot com failures this
last year? They spent millions on advertising, used up money
that could have been spent on producing a better product,
customer relations and paying people to physically "market"
their sites on the Internet.
Sorry this post was so long but I am a writer ;-)

From:Valerie Tay
Subject:How do I effectively Net-Market Off-line?
Dear J Holmes and fellow subscribers,
J Holmes has requested for info regarding marketing
offline. Below is a list of tactics all can use:
1. Leave a Business Card everywhere you visit. I
leave them in my uni's library, in stores,
restaurants, and believe it or not, even rest rooms.
My friend is a member of SFI and SFI advises that
affiliates and members place their cards in each and
every outgoing mail envelope.
2. If the company you are promoting publishes any
print media publication, leave copies of them in
doctor's clinics and places where people will be
inclined to do some reading to kill time. Back to the
SFI example, my friend leaves a copy of the SFI
magazine that has a prominent label with his name,
contact and URL in a few crowded doctor's clinics in
his neighbourhood. Altough it didn't bring in hordes
of people to his site, the result is encouraging.
2. Stick on a bumper plate or a window decal on your
vehicle. This is an excellent way to advertise your
business and URL.
http://www.webdecal.com/at.cgi/142814
http://www.iditplates.net/new/4133/index.html
However, do NOT use long URLs with affiliate ID,
nobody will remember that. If someone keys in a
wrong digit on your affiliate URL, your advertising
effort will send the business to someone else! If
you don't have a domain name and need to purchase one,
go to:
http://affiliate.doteasy.com/index.cfm?M=red&B=1&T=497201&A=sitecafe
I chose this company because every domain name
purchase comes with lifetime FREE hosting WITHOUT ads
from the host. As you can tell from the link, I am an
affiliate of the company, but I recommend it not only
because I can earn credits, but more importantly
because I use and trust its services. In fact, my
friends and I have various sites hosted there:
http://adhomebase.com http://bossgetfired.com
http://ebooksincome.com
3. Postcards can be an effective tool, though they
may be too expensive for some people. Besides
thinking of innovative ways you can use them, you can
also consider deck cards services provided by MLM lead
generation companies.
4. If you are the vocal kind, you can consider
hosting a FREE seminar. At your seminar, focus on
giving advice about starting an internet business/a
home business. You can talk about the advantages and
the pitfalls and also the various marketing
techniques available. Market your products and
services, or programs only at the last quarter of
your seminar. This will make your seminar less like a
sales talk and more receptive to your audience.
Remember also to give out flyers to all participants
with your contact info, URL etc.
Smiles,
Valerie Tay

Rob Says: Isn't it awful about the collapse of http://theglobe.com?
They are now shut down and have removed all websites, since of course, the
servers will be sold as junk. Once the high fliers of the Internet Stock
craze, IPOing at US$12.00 and closing the first day of trading at about
US$300.00 (if I remember correctly), the stock is worth no more than
pennies, if even that.
I am deeply saddened.
TheGlobe is where I first became a member of the Internet Community. I
created my first website there. FTP'd my first file.....
To top it all off, I met my soulmate, Sheila, through theglobe personals.
And now they are gone.
And I wasn't able to connect and save that first website.... the founding
creation of my websites, once when all was new.
:-(
I am sad.

Subject:Exit Exchange
Hi Andrew,
This is actually one of those 'great ideas' things that does actually
happen, although I have to tell you, unless you have LOTS of traffic this
won't work for you.
Think of this as a banner exchange, since this is the closest comparison
available. You trade space on your website for space on someone else's
website to advertise banners. Banners are shown for your web site in
relation to how many people visit your web site and view other web site
advertising banners.
There is a 2:1 ratio of your popup ad being shown on the network with the
other half being paid advertisers. So: you show the popup 1,000 times, your
popup is shown 500 times somewhere else (unfocused/untargeted views) and
they sell the other 500 to earn some money.
Andrew, expected click-through rates on this type of advertising is 4 - 6%.
You can expect, at most 12 visitors for EVERY 200 popup ads that are
displayed from your web site. How many of those 12 need to buy something for
you to make any money? If you say 1, you are reaching for the sky. Even with
well-focused and targeted traffic you may expect only 1 or 2 visitors per
100 to actually purchase something.
So, let's take those 12 click-through visitors (remember this is per 200
popups on your site!) and multiply it by 10, for a total of 120 visitors to
get 1 (ONE) sale. To earn that one sale you have displayed 2000 banner
popups on your web site, of course that is only if you have the code on
EVERY page of your web site (which also means that you have COMPELLING
CONTENT that makes people want to continue through your site rather than
just clicking away after seeing all the banners you have posted) and had
your own banner popup shown 1000 times.
Andrew, be honest now, how many days will it take you to reach 2000 page
views where you have 2000 popups for this ExitExchange System?
To get ONE sale?
Now, I don't know what you're selling, so the numbers could be out of whack,
but next to selling porn, my numbers are very accurate. (Yes, porn does sell
better, but the target tends to be VERY targeted!!)
Of course, the ExitExchange doesn't allow for adult or other such
advertisers.
Well, there is my opinion.
But I do have to admit, I WILL be joining them to better advertise my humor
site, http://www.robrob8.com (165,00 page
views a month)
Entertainment sites make almost NO money, and this one proves the rule.
But it's mine and if I can get a few more visitors I will try this out. I
know what to expect. If it doesn't work as I expect, from what I have said
above, I'll end it and you can be sure that one way or another, by the end
of September I'll let everyone know how the experiment goes.

Binod,
I read your letter tonight and I thought I would give you the best advice I
can. If you are looking for a Company to join that really cares about it's
members doing well then you need to join Going Platinum.
I am sure you have heard about GP and may have some opinions about it. If you
have any questions just E-mail me and I will be happy to answer them. I don't
care who you join GP through. But you need to join. Even if you join some
other Company Please join GP too.
Joining is Free and you never have to pay anything out of pocket if you don't
want to. There is the $25 prepay option and there are good reasons to do
that, but if you don't want to, just join free. Then invite as many friends
as you can to join with you for free.
GP will launch and will be bigger then anything anyone has seen before. You
will make money with GP even if you never spend a dime out of your own
pocket. Plus you will have the best people on the Web to help you with
whatever it is you need. Our Members are great.
If you have questions E-mail me about GP or anything else you may find on the
Web and I'll look it over and give you my honest opinion. But please find
someone in GP and join.
Again, I don't care who it is, just join. I'm just trying to help you.

I highly recommend this to you:

The staff are highly experienced at MLM
DownlineClub, which is well-financed and
runs on very neat software!
The staff have chosen to just
be members like you or I.....thus the 100% payout to members!
The whole club is NEW and operates a
2x15 'forced Matrix' which fills quickly and
then SPILLS into lower levels. Great!
There will be free software offered, discount
shopping and maybe even free web hosting!
The best thing is that entry is FREE until
1 September, so that we all have a fair
chance to build up some numbers before
we have to pay anything!

For a free area targeted add in Yahoo:
1. Go to http://www.yahoo.com

3. Create an a/c if you don't have one with Yahoo. Then click on SUBMIT ADS
4.Place up to 10 ads where you want them (State & catagory) [it takes
YAHOO 2 days to place them]
5.Wait 3 days. Repeat steps 1 & 2
6.Click on "EDIT ADS, click on DELETE ALL
7.Go to step 4 and repeat steps 4,5,6,7
Get your share of over 10,000,000 visitors a day.
Your add lasts 60 days but may only be productive for a short time as in slides

Maybe just have a link called resellers.

Subject:DHS
Hi Adlanders,
I'm new to the Digest by way of doing some searching to check out the DHS
club. Google sent me to the archives back in Jan. 2001. I found a lot of
positive things about DHS. I'm considering becoming VIP, but I would like to
know if there is anyone out there that has signed up, worked it for at least
6 months and can say that it is not worth it. I found a couple of people that
will say bad things about it, but none of them had actually tried it. And of
those that are members, how much time per day are you spending VS. how many
VIP's you get to sign up each month.
Looking forward to your reply's
Tom K.

Subject:Spam-free FFA
Hi Doug,
I have something for you here and everyone else should check it out and send
in their comments.
I have found a free FFA (Free For All) links service that hosts your FFA
page and DOES NOT allow spam emails to be sent out to posters.
Take a look at:
http://post-me.to/ffaview.cgi?member=datingdating
This is my Spam Free FFA page where you can add your link.
Only the latest 99 links are shown and the nice thing about this is there
are NO spam email follow up letters. Visitors to your web site that add
their link to your Spam Free FFA page are not sent an annoying email message
thanking them for adding their link that is really only an excuse for an
email to be sent to them selling something.
All I ask is that you take a look and let me know what you think of it.

Internet2-A Future So Bright
Some months ago, a scam artist was attempting to
sell participation in the "New Internet". As it turned
out, the offer to secure yourself an e-commerce spot
in the next generation Internet was a scam.
But the Internet 2 is as real as it gets.
Launched in 1996, the Internet2 offers lightning-fast connections
to two fiber-optic backbone networks that ensure data arrives
at its destination without loss or delay and already connects
at least one university in each of the 50 states in the US.
Abilene, the Internet2(R) backbone network, is in operation
at speeds up to 2.4 gigabits per second, or 45,000 times faster
than a typical modem.
It was developed in partnership with Qwest Communications,
http://www.quest.net.nz/, Cisco Systems, http://www.cisco.com/,
Nortel Networks, http://www.nortelnetworks.com/,
and Indiana
University, http://www.indiana.edu/.
It currently provides nationwide high-performance networking
capabilities for over 180 Internet2 universities, which, in addition
to high speed, provides advanced networking services such as
multi-casting, IPv6, enables advanced applications such as
High-Definition TV, tele-medicine and remote access to
scientific instruments.
TV may soon stream into your home via your computer in a
quality and level never before envisioned. And the average
person may well be able to create their own TV shows right
on their own home computer.
Speed was one of the major reasons for the inception of the
"New Internet". Government and educational institutions
were beginning to get bogged down within the old Internet
network system. If the original vision was to be maintained,
a new system would have to be implemented.
At the moment, only government, universities and corporate
sponsors are allowed to participate. It is still in research and
the network itself is still under development.
For more information on Abilene please see:
http://www.internet2.edu/abilene/
One of the reasons individuals are not allowed into the club
are the monetary restrictions. Although many an individual
might be willing and able to plunk down the yearly fee of
$10,000 to $25,000, the cost of accessing the network itself
can run $1,000,000 or more.
What are the current participants getting for their money?
"This milestone in advanced networking opens possibilities for
researchers, students and teachers at universities across the
country to collaborate with each other and to access resources
in ways not possible using the commercial Internet," said Steve
Corbató, Internet2 director of backbone network infrastructure.
"Abilene provides a unique leading-edge network environment
that enables people to experiment with and test new capabilities
that can make their way into the global Internet."
Internet2(R) is developing and deploying advanced network
applications and technologies for research and also for higher
education, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet.
Internet2 recreates the partnership of academia, industry and
government that helped foster today's Internet in its infancy.
For more information about
Internet2, see: http://www.internet2.edu/
Internet2 is expected to go, "Public", in about 3 to 5 years.
That is when the average Internet surfer will have access.
However, no one is certain what that actually means.
If you were excited by the possibilities of the Internet,
the future is far brighter for Internet2. So get out your
best pair of shades and your thinking cap because the
new frontier just got even newer.

How To Increase Your Sales By 400%
Part1
Have you ever seen pictures of prospectors panning for
gold?
They have their little tool that looks like a big strainer.
It's made to allow the water to funnel though, but keeps
the silt and gold flakes inside. It's designed perfectly.
It keeps only what may make the prospector money.
Well you know what?
As marketers we're all prospectors panning for that elusive
gold dust. The amazing thing is most online prospectors
looking for the "motherland" are using the wrong tools.
The holes are too big and the gold is falling right through
with the water. We're looking to strike it rich and we
haven't even learned the value of our tools.
Its a known fact that the average reader has to see an ad
multiple times before they respond. It's also a know fact
that once a reader responds to your offer they need to be
courted.
Expecting your new prospect to buy on the first visit to
your site, would be the same as expecting everyone to make
wedding plans on their first date.
So why aren't more marketers following up?
Because they don't even know who their prospects are?
They hop on a program, place a few ads and pray.
What are their ads?
A link directly to whatever web page they're promoting.
Unless the program they're promoting offers an incentive
for visitors to leave their email address, they've just cut
their sales in half.
They might as well flush their money down the toilet!
Wouldn't you love to increase your sales 400%?
Better yet, wouldn't you love to quadruple your sales for
free?
I hope you answered YES!!
Here's how:
1. Offer something free:
<> An Online Course
<> A Report
<> Software
<> Ebook
Anything that would get your prospect in the "buying mood.
2. Have them leave their email address for your "Awesome
New Freebie."
3. Set up a follow up series on auto responder of at least
7 to ten emails.
I know what you're thinking?
What do I use for the follow up emails?
You'll find out in Part 2.
Wishing You Success,
John Colanzi

=====================Joke of the Day (1)===============
Three New Zealanders arrived at the Pearly gates and asked St Peter for
entrance.
"But aren't you the ones involved in all those robberies down there?"
asked St Peter
"Yes, we are" they replied, "but we have done our time and
repented, we have a right to come in>"
"Well, I'll just have to check it out with the Boss." said St Peter,
and left them.
After a quick discussion St Peter was told to let them in and went back to let
the 3 kiwis know. In
a moment he was back.
"They've gone he said"
"Where did they go?" asked the Boss
"No, not them" said St Peter, "the gates!"
