1.Who, Really, Was Attacked?
By Mark Joyner

Quote of the Day
=========================

================== Word from publisher ====================
Greetings All

Welcome  299 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

                                    ----===(*)===-----

I'm offering my deepest sympathies to all affected by the Tuesday's attack
and my  admiration goes to those who are helping with the rescue efforts.

I was postponing this  issue of  Adland Digest till today, as I didn't think
anyone needed discussions about how to run the business when people were
dying so close.
We had enough on our minds and only in the last couple of days I'm starting to
see
that life must go on no matter what happens.  Two weeks ago I returned from
the trip to Poland where I enjoyed my holidays with my kids. I have visited my
friends, family and some historic  places. One of the places was Auschwitz. I
was
debating with myself if I should take my 11 and 12 old daughters to show them
this place of the dark past.

I don't know how much these two  pre-teenage girls could understand what they
saw and heard from the guide,  but  I could see that their faces  were
expressing
sadness and showed some kind of fear  when clinging to my arms when we were
passing by some of the most graphic images of starved and crippled people.

In Auschwitz there are  written words on  the big  white space.

"Who is not learning from the history will have to live it over again."

Now we can see another madman trying to take over the world, destroy
prosperity,  make people cry and kill  their loved ones.
My kids  are witnessing their own piece of dark history.

Is history repeating itself again?

This is racial/religious war and it didn't start today or yesterday.
It started several centuries ago and now it has such devastating effect
due to access of the Arab world to large resources of oil.
And who is paying for this oil?

When I was pumping gas several days ago, it occurred to me that part of
my bill actually goes towards another terrorist attack. I'm in fact sponsoring
it.
What can I do about it?

Thank you for listening.

=================My condolence!=====================
From:Robert Szabo

Dear Bogdan and Fellow Adlanders!

This way I would like to send my heartfelt sympathy and deepest
condolence to all those who were affected by the tragedies that happened
in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.

I would also ask Bogdan to transfer my August AdlandPro Affiliate
earning (I know it is not much, unfortunately!) into a donation fund
and book it as paid out. I call all of You Members to do the same!
I hope the actual fund could collect a reasonable sum for any chosen
charity organisation this way.

Let's prove the globality of our community!

With best regards,

=================Some Sad News and a WARNING=====================
From:Louis

On Friday as I was watching the news, Peter Jennings stated that
there was a scam going on with the Internet.  He said the FBI
has contacted the major ISP's and told them to watch for anyone
who may be trying to collect money for the Red Cross or any
other organization over the Internet.  The Red Cross and Salvation
Army DO NOT solicit money on the Internet.  Anyone caught trying
to collect money for the Red Cross, Salvation Army or any other
organization for the victims of the attack on our Nation is in
serious trouble.

Yesterday I received an email from a group who publishes a news-
letter complaining that they had lost their ISP service and had
also lost their money they had in an Internet account because
they were trying to raise money to give to the Red Cross and the
victims families.

I have also received emails from other people who claim to be
raising money for the same purpose.  THIS IS ILLEGAL.

While I realize that most people are really trying to help, we
have certain laws we must abide by.  If you are sending out that
kind of emails I beg you to change them immediately.  If you are
turned in you will lose your privileges with your Internet Service
Provider (ISP) and any money you have in an Internet account.

There is also another type of scam going on.  People are putting
headlines on their ads about the attack, but when you open their
emails, it is only their advertisements for their business and
has nothing to do with their headlines.  That is very insulting
to me as an American.  I WILL ASK THE SENDER TO DELETE MY ADDRESS
FROM HIS LIST IMMEDIATELY IF I RECEIVE ANOTHER AD LIKE THAT.  It
is WRONG to take advantage of a tragedy in that manner.

Most of you feel the same way I do and I know you will back me
up, no matter what country you are from.  Please get the word out
to as many people as possible in order to keep our relatives,
friends and customers from being scammed or getting into trouble
with the law.

Thanks to all of you.  I sincerely appreciate your cooperation.

Robert,
You said:
"My main complaint is that most FFA pages ARE abused. If you want to
generate traffic to your web site using a FFA page, you would be better
off using one that does not spam people back. This FFA page does NOT ask

for your email address, so it is not there to be harvested by robots or
any other extraction program that finds your FFA page."

I agree that FFA sites have been abused.  This is why I question there
effectiveness at all.  With that said however if you use the correct
script such as the ones in Mats script archive the email addresses are
not kept on the site nor embedded on the page so there is not robots
etc. to harvest names that do not exist.  It is only used to send a one
time conformation to the list.  I do not see a one time conformation as
spam.  And again how is an FFA site going to bring more visitors to your
site (other then a possible search engine hit from the listings),
considering that 90% or more are from automated submission tools.  The
one submitting most the time never will see your site.  Is simply having
the FFA listing there somehow going to increase traffic.  I would like
to know how this happens.

Subject:FFA

Dear Bogdan:

I really don't understand the furor over posting to FFA sites and receiving
confirmation and reply emails. I have several FFA sites and on each one is a
disclaimer that clearly states that if you want to post you must agree to
receive email. How can you complain if you've been warned and have agreed to
receive the email?

To handle the email, I have several email accounts that I use only when posting
to FFA sites and I have received over 3,000 emails in one day at just one email
account.  I rarely ever read them so I either delete the mail every few days or
set up the filters to automatically delete them for me.

When I first started my Internet ventures, I read a lot of the emails I received
when I posted to FFA sites and actually learned a lot - usually what not to do!
I would visit the web sites, study how it was set up and study the pricing,
commission structures, etc. A lot of the web sites were really bad!

I expected to receive a lot of junk email when I started my Internet businesses
just like I expected to receive a lot of junk "snail" mail when I started any
other business and I deal with them both in the same way. Trash them!

Let's focus our energies on building our businesses instead of policing each
other's email.

Hi To All,

This is in reply to Nancy who wanted to know if anyone had found a program that
provides QUALITY leads...YES!  Check out LeadersClub.  They are one of the
oldest most respected lead sources in the Network Marketing Industry.

I was with another lead provider (very expensive) and decided to check around.
I think they're great!  Their plans are affordable, and you can choose from a
variety of e-mail leads, regular mail, phone or a combination of all.

They have a superior training program, and offer a 30 day money back guarantee
of satisfaction on your order. I have encountered very few REMOVE requests, and
very few bounces...out of 250 leads per month this averages about 10 tops!  Not
bad!  Had more w
ith my former provider.

Visit them and check it out.  While you're there, pick up a free cassette -

I know you are excited about finally having landed on program
that that you feel you are comfortable with, where I am
also a member (Six Figure Income)
http://www.quickinfo247.com/2418458.

Some thoughts on advertising:

In traditional forms of advertising, (newspapers,
magazines, Internet ezines, etc.), what you are paying for is the
Space, Circulation and Ad Frequency, (the number of times
your ad runs), that the publication provides you with.

By putting up your money to pay for those three
elements you can only HOPE enough responses (leads) come in to
make your outlay pay off.

For example, if you invest $200 in an advertising
effort and you get 10 leads, they cost you $20 each. If you get
20, they cost you $10 each. If you get only 1, (yes, it
happens), that single lead cost you $200. Sorry, those are the facts.

Although 95% of people going into MLM or Mail Order
ventures fail, success can be more predictable if you focus in
on three elements which MUST become an important part of your
life.

Advertise--Advertise--Advertise!

It's all about getting qualified leads -- finding
enough interested people -- each week -- to respond to your
offer.

Now is your chance to get 50 Leads free without
much effort and at no cost to you.

Subject: Does anybody have any sound advertising advise?

Hi Denise,

I like you have just about given up on FFAs and "safelists" for advertising my
DHSC business.

What I have started using alot recently are the many "surf4hits" programs that
are springing up all over the place. They are all free to join and as long as
you have some time to surf the sites, you can clock up quite a bit of exposure
for your site. I've been managing about 1 signup per day for my program using
just them.

The secret behind these various programs is building a good referral base
(downline) that will do most of the work for you.

I was beginning to despair after a while though because I had joined so many, it
was hard to keep track. Then I came across LifeStyleNetworker. It allows you to
promote and build downlines in over 15 of these programs....all from one site.
You just spend some of the time advertising the LSN site to build your downlines
and then once you have enough, you use it to advertise your business
opportunity.

If you go to my website, I have a banner advertising it at the bottom, along
with another similar site "PaidToSurfer".
http://transmigration.net/PagePromoPro/

Both programs are very new, only coming out in the last two weeks. I personally
think these types of programs (Traffic Building Downline Systems) are the future
for online advertising.

Cheers,

Richard

===========C o n t i n u i n g D i s c u s s i o n (5.1)=============
From:Laurie Rogers
Subject:Spam or Not Spam

Hi Bogdan and Hi Everyone

Well here we go again on the topic of Spam this seems
to be the most talked about topic there is online. As a
publisher I have undoubtedly heard and participated in
many conversations regarding spam and I've also had
my share of dealings with this so called "spam filtering"
software.

To clear up any misconceptions on bills or bylaws I've
included a quote from John Botscharow who is the
Executive Director of Ecrucible. It states:

"There is no FEDERAL law against bulk email or UCE.
There are only a few states that have laws regulating
bulk email or UCE. In NONE of those states is either
illegal. The only requirement is that the person sending
the mail provide one or more of the following:

full contact information, real headers, and a working
link for opting out. All of these are perfectly legitimate
requests and I doubt if there is a legitimate marketer
on the Internet who would object to those being made
Federal or even international law.

Let me repeat that so everybody understands: there
are NO laws in the United States on either the state
or Federal level FORBIDDING bulk email or UCE.
NONE." (you may read this article in it's entirety at:
http://www.freedom-is-not-free.org , click on Archives
and June 2001) ---end quote----

As for "spam filtering software" it is NOT being used
appropriately and in a lot of instances it is being used
by people who have NO idea HOW to use it properly.
And because of that there are a lot of people that are
being falsely accused of spamming.

Nor should any person who is filing a spam complaint
be able to do so without providing ANY valid contact
information. If you're going to file a complaint against
someone, you should at least have the guts to own up
to your claim. (Which Spam Cop completely prohibits
anyone to do).

How would you feel if the police walked into your home
and told you that you were going to jail and they didn't
have to give you a reason why? They took you away
from your family, your home, your business and there
was absolutely nothing you could say or do to prove
your innocence. Is that fair? No it's definitely not! And
that is what SpamCop and other anti-spam companies
stand for. You are guilty and there's no two ways about
it.

As a publisher I receive an enormous amount of spam
in a day. In some instances I will report it and for the
most part it's much easier to hit the delete key. I also
DO reply to spam and ask them to remove me from
their list and tell them, "if you do NOT remove me from
your list I WILL report you for spamming". And 90% of
the time it works for me.

Yes spam is time consuming, yes it is a pain and yes
for some people it costs them money when they have
to download it because their ISP charges by the hour
or whatever. BUT there are A LOT of other things that
the internet could do without, like child pornography
etc. Clean up the real garbage first and then you can
start on the not so important stuff!

To me having an Internet without Child pornography
and other garbage is much more important than all this
fuss about spam. It's time that we get our priorities in
order.

===========C o n t i n u i n g D i s c u s s i o n (6.1)=============
From:Rod Dufrin
Subject:SPAM / FFAs / eMail List

Fellow Adlanders,

I have been a member of Adland for almost 3 years and enjoy
getting my Adland Digest to see what others think. I have never
submitted comments, but the subjects of SPAM, FFAs, and eMail
List have prompted me to comment.

SPAM....Just like most of you...I hate it too. Unfortunately there
are many out there that harvest addresses and send you
their junk and hide behind the so called "Spam Bill". As it was
remarked in this issue, just send the email thru spam cop. DO NOT
reply with remove..it never works especially since 90% of the
return email addresses are fake anyway.

FFAs and SPAM......this has got to be the worst thing going.
First, FFAs are a waste of time. When was the last time you
actually went to an FFA site and clicked on any links on the
site? Probably never. We all know this is a fact. The auto-
response emails just fill up your in-box. As for me, in the past
when I didn't know any better I usually used a throw away
web email account address. If you are one who likes to waste
time posting to "zillions" of sites sign up for a freebie email account
that can be filled up with these worthless emails. This way
all you have to do is delete all the emails and never read them.

Which brings me to the next so called "100s of leads" scam that
seems to be more popular. You pay someone to actually send you
the collected email addresses from people who waste their time
posting to FFA sites. Sounds like a double deluxe SPAM sandwich
to me.....These idiots claim that you will get 100s of email addresses
a day so you can "SPAM" these poor people again. Because if the
person already posted to the FFA "network" an auto-reply email
was already sent to the sender. Now the sender gets more SPAM
email. INSANITY!!!!

Bottom line, don't waste your time on posting to FFAs and don't be
stupid enough to pay for these FFA "leads".

EMAIL LIST....Yes I belong to many (paid list), and yes my emails
get read as I use various means to track my emails. But the trick is to
get people to read your emails. If you have credibility on the web
and earn the trust and confidence of your visitors, and know how
to get your emails read, you will do ok. It is recommended however
that you have a means to collect email addresses from your visitors
to your web site(s). If someone trust you enough to fill in a form
to receive access to a "freebie", be it an ebook, report, software,
or whatever, you have already gained their confidence and trust.
One you have accomplished this, it is usually easier to send follow-up
emails with your offers or products. Try it, it works!

But beware...there are some idiots out there that try to get you
to pay for access to 1000s of email list. Do not waste your
money or time with this. Since so called "free" email list like
listbot, globeclubs, coollist, smartgroups, yahoogroups, onelist,
egroups come and go..usually go.....faster than they are created,
it is sensless that you would even pay for a bunch of outdated
list. True experience..... there is on idiot out there that is claiming
access to 4000 email list. Since this guy was using PayPal
for his payment method he was obviously not aware that the URL
for the access page for this "4000 email list" was clearly visible on
his PayPal HTML code. I "stole" his access URL (which is not hard
to do) and got ahold of his list. I started checking out his so called
"free" list. The first 50 were paid web based mailer email list, and
the next 100 or so free email list were no longer valid. NOTE : I have
accessed a few of these so called "1000s of email list" from a few
sites on the web and had the same results. I think these idiots just
copy and past the same darn list....and they are ripping you off.

My advise, do not pay for this crap! If you wanna join a "free" email
list, go to the list host web site and search for email list that you want
to join. There are plenty of them out there. All you gotta do is spend
a little bit of your time to find them.

LAST COMMENT on "free" list. Usually someone who is a
member of a "free" list, usually has a "free" email account, and either
has a web site hosted on a "free" web server, or has an affiliate web site
with a URL that is as long as your arm. Is this credibility? Think about
it.

If you want subscribers, then give them an incentive like a

HERE ARE NINE GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW WHEN SUBMITTING TO LYCOS
Add Your Site To Lycos

http://www.lycos.com/help/yoursite.html
1. Lycos doesn't use Meta tags and ignores Comment tags.
2. Alt Tags are used by Lycos to rank a page.
3. Image maps are not recognized by Lycos so make sure you
include other links for the spider to follow.
4. Lycos cannot analyze the content within your frames, but
any text in body of the NOFRAMES Tag section will be indexed.
5. Link popularity plays a role in the ranking. Sites with more
links pointed at them are be rated more relevant than sites
without links pointing at them.
6. Lycos looks for keywords near the top and near the end of
your documents. Make sure your keywords show up in the Title
tag, the first paragraph, and the last paragraph. Consider
having each paragraph have its own Heading tag with Keywords.
7. Lycos will not accept ANY punctuation. If your URL contains
any non-alpha symbols such as $, ?, =, trouble will arise.
Avoid special symbols in page names, although a dash "-"
or underscore "_" should be OK.
8. Your home page (Example: www.yourhomepage.com) will often rank
higher than your other pages (Example: www.yourhomepage.com./newinfo.htm)
regardless of your keyword relevancy. Keep in mind that your
home page has the best chance of achieving top ranking on
Lycos, so spend most of your efforts there.
9. Add synonyms of your most important Keywords. Lycos considers
synonyms of your Keywords and recognized plurals as synonyms.
Consider including your targeted keyword's plural form as
synonyms. It is very important that you have synonyms of your
Keywords in your sentences and in your heading tags.

BONUS TIP:

After you submit your site it is a good idea to write a
suggestion to Lycos that they review your site. Use the
form located at this page: http://www.lycos.com/feedback/

Hi, I am Colleen, a long time subscriber.  I've been reading adlands' digest and
I'm in the 90th percentiles of user rankings in adland pro.  I love how helpful
people are on this list and try to help when I can.  Now I'm ask ing the readers
a question:

Here is an old post from builderbuzz, and the response to it.  What I want to
know is just exactly what is the gaffe and why it will get him banned from
search engines.  Thanks:

Alex, it's a small comfort, but you can snicker at the fact that their new site
has some newbie mistakes on it. I notice this little gaffe in their home page:

<head>

<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 4.0">

<meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document">

<title>New Page 1 </title>

----------the response:

Thanks, I noticed that myself. Hopefully this guy won't get any hits on his
site. - Did I forget to mention that NetPrime went through to actually submit
his site using AddWeb to over 1500 directories & search-engines? Well we did,
but now that his meta tags are all messed up, he'll probably be banned from all
the major search-engines. We can just hope :-).

=====================Site Review Request  (1)===============
From:John Lundgren
Subject:http://www.garagesalebonanza.com

Hi Bogdan,
You had no request for a site review this last
time, so here I am requesting a review of my site at
www.garagesalebonanza.com.

My site is the result of many headaches especially
an ongoing one with the credit card people who lease
the the terminal software to me.  I will save this
ugly story for another day.

On a more cheerful note, my site is up and in need
of a site review.

    Thanks so much.  john Lundgren

Who, Really, Was Attacked?
ByMark Joyner

Dear Bogdan,

Last week's attack was not just an attack on physical buildings
- it was an attack on *your* business.  It doesn't matter where
you live - businesses around the world were attacked yesterday -
make no mistake.

Some fear this attack will be "the straw that broke the camel's
back" and send us spinning into a new depression.

I have to admit that yesterday, my first reaction was a poor
one.  Frankly, I was ready for war and even told people to
protect themselves for such.  Some people mistook my advice to
mean, "Take guns to the streets and riot."  Yikes.

After the fact, I realized that *the* most important thing was
to remain calm.  I quickly began urging everyone to do so.

However, now that we're all calm and collected, should we allow
this to lower our spirits?

Demoralizing our people and paralyzing our country is exactly
what the terrorists want.  Does it have to be so?

Yesterday evening I realized it was time to get back to
business.  I gave a friend of mine that advice and it was met
with great resistance.  My friend said, "Have some respect for
the victims of the bombings!  This needs to be a time of
mourning."

Hmmm...  I wonder.  Is that really the best thing?  I had to
respectfully disagree with my friend.

I told him that the worst thing we can do is to do nothing. Yes
we need to mourn, we need to grieve, but we also need to move
forward. I pray that those who lost their lives, their friends
and their families will not take this the wrong way.  They truly
have my deepest sympathies, and every fiber of my being screams
out for justice, resolution, and peace.

We all feel this way, but we need to pick up the pace of
commerce and industry again with a renewed sense of resolve.  I
don't know about you, but I refuse to let this cowardly attack
change my way of life or destroy my business - the business I
have sacrificed so much for in the last 7 years.

My business will move forward.  Next week we will release a new
product right on schedule.  Do not think for a second that
moving forward with your business is disrespectful of the
victims of this attack.

YOU were a victim of this attack.  This was an attack on your
freedom, with the aim of paralyzing your way of life and the way
you conduct your business.

Conducting business as usual is disrespectful of no one - except
the cowards who are responsible for these acts.

Here is my plan.  If you join me in this, you'll be doing your
part to get the economy - and our spirits - roaring back:

1.  Market your products today with no sense of shame.  Do so
with pride.  As an act of defiance, engage in your marketing as
you normally would... Better - do so with renewed enthusiasm.

2.  There is a purchase you've been putting off... Put it off no
longer.  Make that purchase today.

3.  Buy one product from one of your competitors.

4.  Buy one thing that you don't need, but have wanted for a
long time.

5.  When the markets open, buy a few shares with "going long" in
mind.

I urge you to begin again today with a renewed resolve.  Let's
show these cowards we will not be stopped.

Forward this message to all of your friends.  Join with me to
stop the virus of terrorism and spread the news of prosperity
and hope.

Let's do this.  Not tomorrow.  Not next week.  Today.  Right
now.

All the best,

Mark
