My recent writing in this section caused many posts in reference to
Sep 11-th events in America. Majority of the posts were reflections
about what happened and follow ups to what I wrote. Due to the nature
of this publication I won't start  thread about  recent events in New
York as I don't feel qualified to run this kind of discussion nor this
is the place to discuss this kind of issues. On the other hand due
to the magnitude of this problem, I can't stay away from it and will
include here at least one article/post which  in my opinion gives good
prospective and contributes to our general knowledge about what
is happening now.  Mostly I'm interested in articles which can help
spread awareness about people/nations  which are affected by this
conflict and  ways of helping them.

One such article is printed below. Please take a moment to read it.

=================BEYOND RUINS=====================
From:Tamim Ansary

I've been hearing a lot of talk about "bombing Afghanistan back to
the Stone Age." Ronn Owens, on KGO Talk Radio today, allowed that this
would mean killing innocent people, people who had nothing to do with
this atrocity, but "we're at war, we have to accept collateral damage.
What else can we do?"

Minutes later I heard some TV pundit discussing whether we "have the
belly to do what must be done."

And I thought about the issues being raised especially hard because I
am from Afghanistan, and even though I've lived here for 35 years I've
never lost track of what's going on there. So I want to tell anyone
who will listen how it all looks from where I'm standing.

I speak as one who hates the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. There is no
doubt in my mind that these people were responsible for the atrocity
in New York.
I agree that something must be done about those monsters.

But the Taliban and Bin Laden are not Afghanistan. They're not even
the government of Afghanistan. The Taliban are a cult of ignorant
psychotics who took over Afghanistan in 1997. Bin Laden is a political
criminal with a plan. When you think Taliban, think Nazis. When you think
Bin Laden, think Hitler. And when you think "the people of Afghanistan"
think "the Jews inthe concentration camps."

It's not only that the Afghan people had nothing to do with this
atrocity.
They were the first victims of the perpetrators. They would exult if
someone would come in there, take out the Taliban and clear out the
rat's nest of international thugs holed up in their country.

Some say, why don't the Afghans rise up and overthrow the Taliban? The
answer is, they're starved, exhausted, hurt, incapacitated, suffering.
A few years ago, the United Nations estimated that there are 500,000
disabled orphans in Afghanistan--a country with no economy, no food.
There are millions of widows. And the Taliban has been burying these
widows alive in mass graves. The soil is littered with land mines, the
farms were all destroyed by the Soviets. These are a few of the reasons
why the Afghan people have not overthrown the Taliban.

We come now to the question of bombing Afghanistan back to the Stone
Age.Trouble is, that's been done. The Soviets took care of it already.
Make the Afghans suffer? They're already suffering. Level their houses?
Done.
Turn their schools into piles of rubble? Done. Eradicate their
hospitals?
Done. Destroy their infrastructure? Cut them off from medicine and
health care? Too late. Someone already did all that.

New bombs would only stir the rubble of earlier bombs. Would they at
least get the Taliban? Not likely. In today's Afghanistan, only
the Taliban eat, only they have the means to move around. They'd
slip away and hide. Maybe the bombs would get some of those disabled
orphans, they don't move too fast, they don't even have wheelchairs.
But flying over Kabul and dropping bombs wouldn't really be a strike
against the criminals who did this horrific thing. Actually it would
only be making common cause with the Taliban--by raping once again
the people they've been raping all this time

So what else is there? What can be done, then? Let me now speak with
true fear and trembling. The only way to get Bin Laden is to go in
there with ground troops. When people speak of "having the belly to
do what needs to be done" they're thinking in terms of having the
belly to kill as many  as needed. Having the belly to overcome any
moral qualms about killing innocent people. Let's pull our heads out
of the sand. What's actually on the table is Americans dying. And
not just because some Americans would die fighting their way through
Afghanistan to Bin Laden's hideout.

It's much bigger than that folks. Because to get any troops to
Afghanistan, we'd have to go through Pakistan. Would they let us?
Not likely. The conquest of Pakistan would have to be first. Will
other Muslim nations just stand by? You see where I'm going. We're
flirting with a world war between Islam and the West.

And guess what: that's Bin Laden's program. That's exactly what he
wants.

That's why he did this. Read his speeches and statements. It's all
right there. He really believes Islam would beat the west. It might
seem ridiculous, but he figures if he can polarize the world into
Islam and the West, he's got a billion soldiers. If the west wreaks
a holocaust in those lands, that's a billion people with nothing left
to lose, that's even better from Bin Laden's point of view. He's
probably wrong, in the end the West would win, whatever that would
mean, but the war would last for years and millions would die, not
just theirs but ours. Who has the belly for that?
Bin Laden does. Anyone else?

Note from Editor.

I have to refer to this message  and maybe start new discussion which
needs to address guaranteed click-thru programs which
http://www.startblaze.com/ is.

For last two years and a half  I run an affiliate program which pays my
affiliates for bringing  traffic to Adlandpro.com .  Paying for traffic is
only one form  of rewarding my affiliates
(full details here http://www.adlandpro.com/Affiliate.asp)

Since I pay for traffic to my site, I had spent great deal of time analyzing
clicks coming from various programs.  About 2 years ago I came to the
conclusion that traffic from  sites which offer guaranteed clicks thrus, was
worth nothing.  I was receiving clicks to my site, (sometimes several
tens of thousand hits per day ) which ended on one page and no visitor
would go any farther. I had to pay  for bandwidth to accommodate
this kind of traffic, my advertisers were paying for empty displays
of their ads on my site and I never recorded any sales from the visitors
of those programs. Believe me, hits don't mean anything if you can't
sell your product or service.
Today I don't allow for sending of traffic to my site from sites
like  http://www.startblaze.com/

I have affiliates who send daily to my site  20-30 visitors and
2-10 of them buy something and I could get 10,000 hits
from any of those guaranteed click thru sites and no one
visitor would view any of the other pages.

If you would like to know how to drive qualified traffic to your site,
you need to get latest edition of Site Sell  2002.
http://www.adlandpro.com/redir/MYSS.asp

Don't waste your time with pretending that you are receiving traffic
to your site. Start making sales. Instead of engaging in some
useless traffic generation programs, get your copy of Site Sell 2002
and spend next week on trying to understand it and slowly implementing
its principles.

Subject:Anyone Had Any Luck with Adtrack

Hi Bogdan - Long time no e-see!  I hope you are  well and
prosperous.  This time a headline caught  my attention.
It was submitted by Brian Page in the last issue.

RE:  Anyone had Any Luck with Adtrack?

Hello Brian Page and Adlanders All,

Let me answer your question regarding Adtrack. I noticed that
you did not really elaborate on Adtrack Free Classifieds to any
significant extent. Since you left the subject a bit "shallow" I
wanted to answer the question from my experience.

My Adtrack site has generated thousands of targeted visitors
to my site, and to the affiliate sites I advertise  through the 5
banners I rotate on the site. My "top of the page" test ad is one
of the best in the system, advertising the "Startblaze" system.
Take a look at how I have it set up at this url:

http://www.adtrackclassifieds.com/index.cfm?u=3680996
(I am not trying to self-promote here - just look at the ad)

I have signed up 1,932 sub-associates on the Adtrack system,
and the vast majority of them simply host my banners because
they are not willing to pay the $97 upgrade fee to become a
full banner member. So, I am the happy recipient of TRAFFIC
from the click-throughs to the banners I advertise on their free
Adtrack sites.  I get a 11.3% click-through rate on my text ad,
compared to 1.9% on the Adtrack system as a whole.  My
banner click-through rates are not that high, but for banners
they are very good and results are the final determining factor.

Of course I would love to have the commissions from all those
1,932 members purchasing the upgrade, but heck, who cares?
My text ad has helped to bring in most my 100s of "Startblaze"
sub-associates in that program, and I realize affiliate site traffic
and SALES due to the banner rotation.  The final result for me
has been increased income and traffic. So, in answer to your
question, Adtrack has been very good to me, and I do not agree
that it is the same as other classified sites. It is "anything but"
the same as most of them!  How's that "FAT CAT" thing work?

September 17, 2001

Re: Red Cross DOES Collect Online Payments! Please learn the facts before
posting incomplete information!

The comments about there not being any legitimate internet sites collecting
money for the Red Cross online is not entirely true. While there may be some
scam sites out there, many good ones do legitimately and legally collect
donations online. Not only does the Red Cross itself collect online donations
(http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-wtc2/), many other companies are also
collecting money on their behalf (Amazon.Com for example -
http://s1.amazon.com/paypage/PKAXFNQH7EKCX/107-8815525-0747745).

Of course, it's pretty stupid for anyone sending out an e-mail newsletter to try
to actually "collect" money for these relief organizations - especially if you
don't know the rules. It seems fairly obvious that this could appear suspicious
and "smells" like a scam (which is why there are rules in the first place). It's
better to just direct your visitors to the sites directly by using links like
the ones above. There is no need for you or your company to be associated with
the donation - just direct the kind hearted donator to an appropriate and
legitimate site.

Thank you,

Stephen Rinaldi

John, the purpose of this type of FFA site is that it is not appealing
to automatic script services that will post your FFA site to their
engines so that you can have thousands of additions to it and thousands
of confirmation emails sent out. Someone actually has to visit the FFA
page you have set up and add their URL. The magic being that they don't
add their email address and thus they do not expose themselves to spam

From:Steve Humphrey
Subject:FFA

Hi All,

Here's my 2 cents worth. If you use an FFA network and actively
promote it you may end up with a large number of sites in your
downline. If your site's link is *permanently* listed on your FFA
page AND those of your downline, your "link popularity" is increased.
It's increased still more if the downline sites have many sites linking
to them.

This will make your site fare better in the search engines. It's one factor
and there are many others. But it *is* something you can build up by
your own efforts. So, check out how an FFA network really works. If it
has the behaviour I just outlined, it can be worth a shot.

I can't promise that it will do more than this, and SPAM is still an issue.
Again, check the FAQs, rules, etc. before you join. If it won't work for
you, don't bother with it. I make no recommendations as to any one
network; investigate with due diligence on your own part.

I differ on the subject of ffa's.  They are not perfect but I personally
read some of them and I know others do too.  Not all the time but at least
once a week I read some of my 5 or so ffa pages.

If you have millions of people on the internet some will see your links.

I know because I've been a Musician's Friend affiliate for over a year.

I was up at one time to 4,000 page impressions and 250 clickthroughs every 6
days for a long time and some good commission sales.   Between that and
clickbank programs I was making about $350.00 a month - with hopes for a lot
more.  I have 5 websites but haven't advertised them much so all my traffic
came from ffa's I posted.

However lately - Recession, whatever and now the WTC crashes - my income,
impressions and clickthroughs are way, way down.   At the moment - $100 a
month is all I'm making.

This email is in response to Rod Dufrin's post "SPAM / FFAs / eMail List" which
was posted in Adland Digest #256.
Rod, I totally agree with some of your comments about SPAM. It truly is one of
the most annoying aspects of running an internet business.
However, I simply MUST disagree that FFAs don't work! Posting to FFA pages WILL
get you hits; it just depends on where you post. I have found that FFAs provide
instant visitors. Of course, FFAs aren't the only way to accomplish this, but
they definitely help!

Here are a few FFA pages that I use which work for me:

This is a friendly warning and nothing more.

You will no doubt be receiving plenty of spam and of course
it gets frustrating, no, it's a downright nuisance!

I just wanted to warn you against a site used by spammers
called removeyou.com. You will see this advertised in messages
such as this:

##################################################
We strongly oppose the use of SPAM email and do not want
anyone who does not wish to receive our mailings to receive
them. As a result, we have retained the services of an
independent 3rd party to administer our list management and
remove list (www.removeyou.com). This is not SPAM. If you
do not wish to receive further mailings, please click below and
enter your email at the bottom of the page. You may then rest-
assured that you will never receive another email from us again.
http://www.removeyou.com The 21st Century Solution.
I.D. # 032950
###################################################

I always wondered whether I could trust them as they were
associated with the web's worst spammers. I made the mistake
of giving them the benefit of the doubt and inserting my email
address to be removed.

Since then, the spam has increased 40 times over.

Why?

Because all you do when you submit your address to them is
confirm that you have a valid deliverable address to send spam to.

Try unsubscribing again and you'll get a message that you are
not on their lists ...even though the spam you just received came
from a user of their service (they guarantee you will not be
contacted again once removed).

Moral?

Report all the spam you receive and DON'T make the mistake
of adding your address to removeyou.com's list!

Hi Bogdan,
You had no request for a site review this last time, so here I am
requesting a review of my site at www.garagesalebonanza.com. My site is
the result of many headaches especially
an ongoing one with the credit card people who lease the terminal
software to me.  I will save this ugly story for another day. On a more
cheerful note, my site is up and in need
of a site review. Thanks so much.  john Lundgren

Hi John,
I took a moment to visit your site:
Your site is easy to navigate and fulfills the promise of having
available the information you say you will provide. I am impressed.
Specialty sites such as yours have a very good chance of doing well as
long as you do not lose focus as to what your goals really are. And that
should always be providing related information as you have accomplished.
If any changes would need to be made, I'd recommend losing some of the
amounts of white space you have on the inside pages. All of your text,
tables and graphics are very vertically aligned and you do not use the
area of the page well. Too much white space allows for a lot of
scrolling to find the information your visitors will be looking for.
Make it easier and condense some of the white space you are using.
You may also want to change the color of your default font from black to
another dark color, navy blue or something.
It will help to remove some of the black/white starkness of the pages
and soften their appearance.

Overall, John, you have a nice site. Good luck and happy selling!

Robert Lee

A famous comedian in the 1950s used to ask people, "Got a
banana?"  The question might make sense if asked in the right
situation, but he asked it everywhere.  I've forgotten the name
of the comedian, but I still recall his question.  Why?  Because
it's strange.

As I write this, I am creating new business cards for myself.  I
decided to add a confusing line to it.  After some fun
brainstorming with my girlfriend, I settled on, "Ask me about
the monkey."

Why is "Ask me about the monkey?" worth putting on my business
card?  As with my father's question and the comedian's question,
it stops your brain in its tracks. It makes you pause.  It makes
you focus on ME.  The theory is that once you stop someone with
a confusing line, you can then implant a hypnotic command right
after it.

In other words, if I write something like, "Apples desk fly
dirt," and then follow it with, "Read my new ebook," the chances
are very high that you are going to want to read my new ebook.

Why?  Because the first line jammed your mind, and the second
line slipped into your brain while you weren't looking.  I've
just upped the odds that you will buy my new e-book.  And if you
don't, of course, it doesn't matter because I never really told
you to go buy it. See?

The same thing will happen on my new business cards. Since I'm
now known as "The World's First Hypnotic Marketer," I wanted a
strange, confusing line on my new card.  When someone sees, "Ask
me about the monkey," and then asks me about the monkey, I can
simply point out that I practice hypnotic selling and I just got
them to do what I wanted.

The Japanese practice this "hypnotic confusion," but probably
unknowingly.  A friend of mine who flew to Japan reported to me
that the English phrases on all the Japanese products were
bizarre.  A tube of toothpaste might say, "Green days you not
sing."  A box of cookies might say, "Wood above fish."

How can you use this secret right now?  Don't be afraid to be
confusing.  People tend to sort out whatever you say anyway and
make sense out of it using their own terms.  If you are
describing your product in great detail, be willing to toss in
something odd.  It may increase sales.

If not, swirl up!

=====================Reflections(1)===============

Tuesday Morning

Did you hear the things I heard Tuesday morning?
I couldn't believe my ears.
Two towers of steel in the land of the free,
were knocked down to their knees.

Could you hear the screams of those dying?
Did you see the fear in those still alive?
Cold birds of steel with souls behind the wheel,
thought god would bless them to kill and die.

Do you feel the anger in your heart boiling?
Have you asked why a soul could do such acts?
I feel in my heart that day the world fell apart,
seemed I was looking in Satan's eyes.

God I pray to you today
to help my sisters and brothers.

God I pray you will help me today,
     to know the right way.

Should we be the ones to bring justice?
Will we be doing Gods will?
Will an attack bring those souls back?
Will a war mean terror will be no more?

I pray we don't act out of anger.
I pray we don't act out of hate.
Is this what is meant by an eye for an eye
or is this just  hate?

Will the deeds of a few mean death for many?
Because of these acts do others have to die?
My heart is hurting too, but I feel we are being used,
will we be like they are?

God I pray to you today
to help my sisters and brothers.

God I pray you will help me today,
     to know the right way.
