Joke of the Day

================== Word from publisher ====================

Greetings All

Welcome  180 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

                                         ----===(*)===-----

Happy Holidays  and all the best  in the new
year 2002 should this be the last issue this year.

It is also my thanks to you  for  being part of this discussion. Constant flow
of new subscribers gives me motivation to work on this newsletter, even
when sometimes I feel too tired or other issues would require more of my
attention. For the last three years I mailed to you  270 issues.
Even if the newsletter gets older, the topics discussed here are benefiting
newbies directly. Experts have option to get known through answering
questions and providing quality information.
Thank you to all gurus who took the time to answer questions
these past year and to all of you who reviewed sites of those
who requested it.

Adlandpro has strengthened its position during this year, even as we
all know many internet companies went down and more will disappear
in  the coming months. I want to tell you that, due to some restructuring
of our company, we will be able to provide more services starting next
year. We are also starting an aggressive campaign to get  more people
involved with our affiliate program which will directly  benefit affiliates
who already work hard to get most out of our program.

When I look back one of the most important things to mention, is the fact
that many advertising companies disappeared during the last three years
and many new ones were created but  their main flaws are that they try
to deliver advertising in a form of massive traffic, forgetting that all
we want is sales.

There were/are  programs which  can deliver quasi visitors through
pop-up windows, pop-under windows, auto hits,  lotto sites,
pay per surfing sites and advertising toolbars. What we finally end up with
is the fact that traffic produced by those programs are just empty hits,
which  produce few sales (if any). From my prospective this is just
unnecessary  use of bandwidth and hardware resources.
This traffic is, most of the time not targeted and, in many cases
not even seen by real people.

After a few months of using any of these methods, people stop and ask
themselves the question: I got hits to my sites, but what am I doing this
for? Is anybody actually seeing my site since nobody bought anything
from me?

What really works is what always worked and what always will work.
Everybody needs targeted traffic. I care more about 20 hits coming
from  a site recommended by my competition or  sites complementing mine
than 10,000 hits from any of the above mentioned programs.
Not only do I get sales but, also  my resources are not wasted for traffic
which nobody cares about.
If you care about sales (not hits), stay with Adlandpro and next year,
you will see a new  era of advertising and promotion for small business.

Be part of  a winning and focused team. Build on experience and  don't
get distracted by  false ideas which are just different faces of spam.

Go here to join Adlandpro affiliate program and get ready for the coming
year.

Yours in success, Bogdan Fiedur.

Amanda,
I understand exactly how you feel.  If it wasn't for spam my workload would be
perfect. I use a program call Postmaster that filters my mail.  All the spam or
reversed email goes into its own folder.  I like to go through it to see if
there is
possible something that I could use.  If you would like the link email me
at bigdollars@msn.com

Postmaster actually does the job for me.  There is no way to afford some spam.
I don't get involved with accusing people.  I have been accused of spamming.
I always keep the form or email that requested more information for backup.

Set up your filters and get back to doing your business

From:Mike Hills
Subject:Sick of Being Spammed!

Hi Bogden.

Notice that *amn spamming issue is back on the agenda.
So here's my pennies worth.

How to get your own back on Spammers!

First of all you have to ask WHY DO SPAMMERS SPAM?

The obvious and correct answer is SPAM WORKS!

Like it or loathe it Spamming does get results. That's why people Spam. The only
way to combat Spam is to get their Spamming results down to zero.

Look at it another way. Most spammers have everything Automated, they just pump
in a new Spamming address to send from, and you get 52 automated e mails back
over the course of a year.

Now say that spammer sends out 1,000,000 e mails out over the year ( most
spammers send many more ) and only 1 in every 10,000 sign up that's still 100
sign ups to their program. I've promoted some programs legitimately for a year
and had much worse results than that.

Here are a few suggestions on how to get your own back.

1) NEVER report the e mail address used for spamming.

Why? you ask.

Well if you report the offending address for spamming, all that will happen is
the e mail address provider will delete that account and the spammer will just
get another address and use that. So there is no point adding it to your blocked
list

2) As spammers usually only promote one program in their SpamMail.

Report them directly to the program they are promoting. Once they find their
programs and downlines are disappearing, they might just ask WHY?

3) If like me, because sometimes there is actually a good offer , you do read a
lot of your SpamMail. Don't click on the URL given.  Cut and Paste the home url
into another browser. That way the company can still benefit and the Spammer
loses out

4) Don't only block the e mail address that the SpamMail is sent from. But also

A) Add the from e mail address to your " Where the To line contains " in your
Rules section.

B) Block the address the SpamMail is sent to by adding it to your " Where the To
line contains " in your Rules section . Obviously if this e mail address is
actually your own Don't block that.

Anyway. Hope these help, and lets get those Spam Mail results down to Zero.

thanks
Mike Hills

From:B. Earl
Subject:Sick of Being Spammed!

I believe Amanda wanted to know if there was a way to advertise on the internet
without getting spammed...probably not. Sorry, but it seems to be an unwritten
rule of the internet that "if you advertise, be p repared to get advertised to."

I have learned to live with it, and use my delete button more often that any
other piece of equipment on my computer.  I would suggest that you get one of
those "free" email accounts, or open another email account under your current
provider, and when you advertise, use that email address. That way you can sort
through and delete your mail when you have more time, and can save your main
email account for important correspondence.

I would also recommend that you advertise in ezines ad newsletters, much like
the adland pro newsletter. This type of advertising is much more effective than
other forms of advertising offered on the net, and your "spam" is reduced to
only receiving w eekly copies of those newsletters and  ezines for which you
subscribe to instead of thousands of replies. You will also find useful tips and
articles in these ezines. It is also very cost-effective.

A friend of mine started an ezine service that makes this type of advertising
fairly easy to manage. It takes about 15 minutes a day, and you will be posting
your ads to 90+ ezines per week. Be aware that this is also an affiliate
program, but you don 't have to promote it. You can just use their services if
you want. My friend put my own newsletter on his list, but forgot to send me an
affiliate link, so I am including someone else's link in case you would like to
look into it. I do not know this pers on. But, I am familiar with the program,
and it is a good one for advertising:

John,

If you're using Start Blaze or any of the other traffic generators
you'll get some traffic, but the amount of traffic isn't as important as
the quality of your traffic.

You need traffic that is either going to opt in to your email list or
buy your product. Although these types of programs can get you traffic,
I doubt if there is a high rate of conversion.

To really make your traffic pay you need a direct response page designed
to get visitors to opt in to your list.

Here's a free ebook that explains the basics of traffic generation.

Hi  Mike

Thanks for signing up, it is a nice program, but I myself do watch the sites.

How I do it is when there is something that I can do while watching the sites,
like putting labels on packages or folding brochures.  I find something to do
while watch the sites.  I say to myself this is not going to work unless I put
forth an effort into it.  I would not want someone to do this to me so I feel
that I should not do it either. As you may or may not know, I sell coffee and
there are a lot of site that sell coffee, but I have been watching my stats and
I have RECEIVED ORDERS from auto hits.  I have also gotten some real good
software, ideas and other things from watching auto hits too.

For example this one program that I got was for doing advertising where as you
put you ads in this program and name it something simple and when you want to
use that ad you just type in your little simple name and types the ad for you.
Now if I had not been watching I would have missed that wonderful program.  So I
do make a point of viewing the site that come up. If there is site that you do
not want to view then you can click for the next site and not waste that persons
click throughs.  Like Robert said there are lots of programs out there but this
one is working for me.  So here is the link again for anyone that wants to check
out a program that is working for me.

Hi Francis,
Now I know why I haven't heard from you for a while, you've obviously been very
busy. I have just reviewed your site after seeing your request in Adlands and
here is
what I think....
I was a little confused at first as I thought your site had something to do with
travel.  Once I realised it was to do with health care it made a little more
sense.
I tried to click the 'free vacation' link but this went nowhere!!!
I clicked the 'more info' link and was led to another site with the same
information as on your first page just set out differently.
The sign-up section at the bottom of the page made me think I was signing up to
a newsletter, but on taking a second look I presume it is just an autoresponder
or such like to provide more info and a join link.
Over all, I think you should consider minimising the info provided on the
benefits and possibly including a link to the relevant section on the 'next'
page in the cute icons on the left.
Also, your heading should refer more to the purpose of the site as people get
annoyed when you waste their time - even though you have a good heading to
entice people to read-on.

Hi Viv,
I've just reviewed your site and here's my thoughts;
You have an enormous amount of information on the first page, to much in my
opinion.
You might want to just put the headings and main sources here then list the
other information for each heading in a pop-up text box  when users hover over
the link.  Or just on the next page.

Being an Aussie, I immediately went to the international link, only to find you
have as yet very little here and what there is, is hard to decipher.  I would
prefer to see this section broken down by country and city of the
college/institution or just by subject with a listing under each for the
available college/institutions.
For example, you have Study Abroad - USA, then a college (American College in
Dublin).  this makes me believe the college is in Dublin not the USA. then you
go on to tell us this is in Florida.???  Now I'm way too confused to bother with
your site

If I was really interested in studying abroad, my first thought would be either
a particular subject or a particular country.  I would like to be able to choose
one or the other and get all the relevant information immediately.

Keep working on it, you have a lot of potential and a great subject matter.

This page draws new subscribers daily. It's basically a no

If there's anything you see on there that you want to use as

Link Popularity - Movin' On Up..."
ByCarl Rosaine

Introduction

"Link Popularity" is a ranking criterion that search engines
use in their algorithms-both the sheer number of other sites
linking to your site and especially the importance and
relevance of the other sites linking to your site are
considered.  The more you know about "link popularity" the
farther and faster you can move your site to the top of the
   search engines.

This information is important to you because once you
understand how link popularity works, all your decisions about
your web site from the domain name you select-to the tightness
of its focus-to the way you list your site with the major
search engines-and right up to the number and quality of
linking sites you go after- will all snap into place.

In this article, we are going to give you 8 great ways to
increase your link popularity.  You will also learn how to
measure your site's link popularity and see how it stacks up
against your competition.  You will also find out about the
three factors that affect your search engine rankings and the
   two techniques NOT to use.

As search engines become more sophisticated, the old
techniques of "fooling" them to get a high ranking with "smoke
and mirror" tricks such as: keyword stuffing (repeating
keywords repeatedly): invisible text (the background and the
text are the same color, so the text is not seen by the
visitor) and multiple page submissions don't work anymore.
Even meta tags are losing some of their effectiveness.

Other dubious techniques such as free-for-all links and (some)
link exchange programs can even get your website banned from
search engines because these approaches may be interpreted as
   spamming.

Once you have the background information on link popularity,
we'll show you how to set up a super matrix-a series of sites
that all link to each other and to your main site.
Implementing this technique will reward you with consistently
high search engine rankings and leave your competitors
scratching their heads trying to figure out how you always
   manage to top them.

   I. What is Link Popularity and How Can It be Measured?

"Two years from now, it seems reasonable to assume that more
search engines will rely on link popularity and that the
importance of link popularity will be more heavily weighted
among search engines that use it now."

                       Mike Adams, President, WebSeed.com

Imagine you are CEO of a major search engine.  You know that
the only way you are going to stay popular is by providing
sites that match exactly what surfers are looking to find.
You also know that you had better provide quality sites filled
with great content on that topic.  Then you make an
assumption: If a lot of sites, particularly quality sites are
linked to a related site, then, chances are... it's a good
   site too.

Now, as CEO you are faced with a challenge.  All these clever
search engine marketing companies are developing software and
techniques to fool your search engine.  You don't like that.
And so, you call in your top staff and issue an edict, "Figure
out a way that only the best sites can get to the top of our
search engine and ignore the ones that are more concerned with
   ranking than content."

By looking at ranking from the search engine perspective, you
can now see that not only the number of other sites linking to
yours but more importantly the importance of the other sites
in terms of their relevancy become important factors.  If you
sell computers or software then having Microsoft link to you
would drive your site ratings right through the roof.  If you
sold chocolates on your site, then theoretically, the link
from Microsoft just counts as one more link.

To see how your site measures up in terms of link popularity
(on Alta Vista, Google and Hotbot) you can visit
http://www.linkpopularity.com.  Next, you can see a comparison
of your site's link popularity to your competitors and to
   other well-known sites at http://64.232.113.195/publinkpop/.

II. How does link popularity affect your search engine
   rankings?

Different search engines will use different weightings.
For example, one might use meta tags as the dominant
component and another might use quality of links. Another
might primarily consider the total number of links along
with the site design and keyword placement within the HTML.
You will want to cover as many of these components as
   possible.

Here are three factors search engines' algorithms consider
when determining ranking for web sites under each keyword or
   keyword phrase:

   1) Number of links - Sheer numbers count provided that they
are links from relevant websites.  The number of links is the
most important (but not the only) factor in getting your site
a high ranking on Google.  Other search engines such as:
HotBot, AltaVista, Northern Light, Inktomi and MSN also
include the number of links in their ranking formulas.

   2) Relevance - Are the sites that are linking to you
relevant, helpful and important to your visitors?  If you have
a car site, then a link to an auto insurance company is
relevant.  If that company is a national leader and a
household name then that is even better.

   3) Link Text - The words used to hyperlink other web sites
to your site "factor in" towards your sites link popularity.
That's why it is important you provide the specific text links
other sites use to link to you.  Do not leave this to chance
or to their imagination.  You want as many other sites as
possible linking with the same words to describe your site.

Let's say you sell the best smoky sausages in town and your
friends and family encourage your to start up your own
business and sell them on the web.  Here are the three text
   link formats:

The best would be the your top keyword or keyword phrase
hyperlinked to your URL. i.e. the best smoky sausages
   (hyperlinked to) http://www.Joes-smoky-sausages.com

2nd best would be any keywords linked to any of your URL's
   i.e. sausages (hyperlinked to)
   http://www.Joes-smoky-sausages.com

3rd best would be just your URL.
   http://www.Joes-smoky-sausages.com

III. Eight great ways to increase your link popularity.

   1) Build A Super Matrix of Linking Sites

A matrix is a series of sites that all link to each other and
to your main site.  The power in the matrix is that you
control the content of each site and exactly how the links are
set up.  Instead of having one general site that covers many
different keywords, separate each product or service you offer
into "keyword groupings" that climb separately and
independently from each other to the tops of the search
   engines.

It is much easier to get to the top with a tight focus than
by having a more general site. Let's take a specific example
of a web site that sells exotic birds, birdcages, birdseed,
books on birds and also operates a veterinary clinic to
treat tropical bird diseases.  On the surface, it looks
like the owner only needs one web site since each aspect of
the business complements the others.  The search engines,
however, treat each part of this business as a completely
   separate entity.

The owner should have the main site and then build an expert
site for exotic birds, another one for birdcages, another
one for birdseed, etc.  There is no limit to the number of
expert sites that can and should be built... as long as they
all "tie in" to the central theme.

Click below to view a Diagram of a Sample Matrix:
   http://www.marketingchallenge.com/chronicles/278/matrix.gif

The Concept: Build related expert sites that all link to the
"mother site" and to each other.  Each expert site covers its
own niche based on a core set of keywords or a theme.

Size: Each of the sites will be about the same size. We
   suggest around five pages.

Design: Do NOT make one design and then copy it.  Each site
needs to be unique and have its own "personality."

Hosting: Host each site with a different ISP to further
distinguish the sites from each other when the search
   engines are compiling their data.

Linking: Use the text linking strategies that we have
discussed in this article with each URL (domain name)
prominently featured on each of  the other sites as a "great
   site for..."

Relevancy: Each site should have a different theme but
yet each one is relevant to the others.

Separation: If you have a variety of services or products
on your main web site now, consider how you can create a
separate site for each one and then link them all together.

Submissions: Submit each site to all the search engines and
directories as suggested below in 2,3,4, and 5.

   2) Get listed in Yahoo!

Yahoo! is such a popular site that once you get your site
listed with them, it really increases your link popularity.
That's because other search engines give a Yahoo! listing
   considerable weighting in their algorithms.

Be sure to use the Business Express submit gateway at Yahoo
because this is the fastest way to get listed. Always keep in
mind that Yahoo can be a finicky directory to get listed in
but it's worth the money. A good listing in Yahoo can provide
your site with a significant amount of traffic.

   3) Get listed in Excite / LookSmaLookSmart - use the paid inclusion
   program.

Just like Yahoo!, other search engines believe that if you are
listed in LookSmart, your site must be worthy of listing with
them as well - and so listing with LookSmart will really boost
   your site's link popularity.

Submitting your site through the paid inclusion program will
save you time because this one step submits your page to both
Excite and LookSmart, which also supplies results to
   AltaVista, MSN, and iWon.

Their review/inclusion time frame is 48 hours, which means
that they will review your site within 48 hours and, assuming
it passes review, they'll include it in their directory.

   4) List your site in the top directories such as Open
Directory Project (http://dmoz.org/add.html), which is free.

   5) Submit your site to relevant databases in Search Engine
   Directory (http://www.searchengineguide.com/searchengines.html).

   6) Start an affiliate program.

Affiliates earn a commission when a visitor to their site
clicks the link to your sales page and then makes a purchase.
You could end up with 100's or even 1000's of virtual
salespersons linking to your site.  Best of all, you only pay
them when the sale is closed.

When it comes to link popularity, starting your own affiliate
program helps your site in two ways:

Number One: You will be adding site after site, which has
links back to your website.  Each link moves you're a bit
further up the search engine ladder.

Number Two: Assuming that you concentrate your recruitment
efforts on related sites, then this factor moves you even
higher.  If you happen to land some major, heavy traffic sites
in your field, their links back to you really gives your link
   popularity a boost.

   7) Build up your links focusing on linking to similar
high-traffic, quality sites one contact at a time.

   - Start by visiting http://www.directhit.com/ and
http://www.about.com/ to look for sites that serve the same
audience that your site does but are not competitive.  i.e.
wedding caterers and wedding photographers serve the same
   market but do not compete.

   - Contact the webmasters with a brief email saying that you
have visited their site, and see that you both share
visitors with the same interests and that you would like to
trade links to mutually benefit each other.

   - Check who links to your competition and contact them, as
   well.

   - When you send another site owner a link request or
reciprocal linking offer, let him know what you would like
your link to say. Suggest keywords in your link's
description. Also, include a piece of HTML code in your e-
   mail such as the following:

   <a href="http://www.yoursite.com">Your Keywords</a>

   8) Write articles

Become known as an expert in your field by writing articles
that you post to your site and then submit them to other
websites and ezines for publication. Include hyperlinks back
to your site embedded within the article or else include the
   links under your bio.

   Bonus tip

Now that you have other sites linking to you, submit the other
web sites' pages with the links to your site to the search
engines.  Then you will not only have your site listed on the
search engines but also the pages of other sites that refer to
your site will be listed separately as well.

Two techniques NOT to use in increase link popularity.

   1) There are many ways that are claimed to increase your
website's popularity.  The ones that seem too easy to be true
such as free-for-all pages on sites such as
http://www.freeforalllinkspages.com/ can clog up your email
box very quickly with all the spam email you will get back.

Assuming you open up another email account just to receive all
this extra email, that will be the least of your problems.
Search engines will recognize your site has a lot of zero
quality links that are completely irrelevant.  Search engines
don't like you spamming them with your free-for-all links and
they will have the last laugh when they ban your site.

   2) Another controversial way to artificially inflate the
numbers of links to your site is to join exchange programs
   such as found on:

   - http://www.lrsxpress.com/links.htm - an all text-based link
   with no banners.

   - http://www.linkstoyou.com/  - html links

   - http://www.linkme.com/ - others may come to your site and
   link without you even knowing

   - http://searchenginebase.com/sbfreeportal0.html - offers
   "invisibility"

Exchange programs are groups of webmasters who link their
sites to each other for the express purpose of using link
popularity to fool the search engines into giving their sites
a higher ranking. Your site can look very unprofessional, very
quickly if you have "visible" links covering your site.
That's why some of the programs recommend that you make the
link a one-pixel-square invisible GIF image.

*CAUTION*: If you do join a link exchange program, pick one
that gives you the control to place your site in a related
category. We do not recommend joining any of these programs
because if a search engine figures out where all those links
to your site came from, there is a possibility that they will
   ban your site.

   Conclusion

Many of your potential customers are going to find their way
to your site through search engines and hyperlinks-and that
makes link popularity doubly important to drive new visitors
   to your site.

The link popularity strategies in this article will help you
to pull in 1000's of additional pre-qualified (self-screened)
potential buyers to your site. It is important to use as many
of the strategies we have outlined as possible.   Each one
will help you get a higher search engine ranking.  The real
power of these techniques is in using them in combination, not
   separately.

If you follow our matrix system, you will have not one but
multiple streams of income.  Unlike other strategies and tips
in this article.this one is going to take considerable time to
set up. Realistically, you could set up your super matrix and
not see significant results for an entire year.but when the
results start pouring in.you will be well rewarded for your
   efforts.

=====================Joke of the Day   (1)===============

Before his daring escape from prison, an infamous criminal
had been photographed from four different angles.

The FBI sent copies of the pictures to police chiefs all across
the land, with orders to notify Washington the moment an
arrest was made.

The next day, the Bureau received a faxed reply from the
ambitious sheriff of a small Southern town:

"PICTURES RECEIVED. ALL FOUR SHOT DEAD WHILE
RESISTING ARREST."
