There are several good utilities available free from sites like tucows.com
and freewarehome.com that STOP pop-ups. Caution: on some of them
if you set the value to extreme, you will not be able to view pages that
are set to a window such as _blank.

Hello Adriana,
I'm sorry to disappoint you but FrontPage 2000 is not a program to
create your banners with. What you need is either a simple graphics
program for static banners (like paintshop pro 7, demo is available at
http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp?prod=001
) or a gif-animator
if you want animated text . At the same link, you will also find a
program called Animation Shop for download. This one can do the
job if you want to create an animated banner.
My personal first choice for creating (animated) banners is the
program Gif-Animator by Ulead ( http://www.ulead.com/ga/trial.htm).
You have to create a sequence of pictures using the text tool and
you must set a time frame how fast the pictures should change.
Then, all the pictures combined can be saved into one animated
gif (the banner) .
The finished banner can be placed as a normal gif picture on your
webpage with FrontPage 2000...

First I hope everyone had a GREAT holiday season. This is
regarding the message the Mutinda had posted in the last
issue: "Anybody seen this site warning about Pay Pal?

As with any large business online you will always find a lot of
negative that tries to out weigh the positive. I went to the site
you had posted and read some of the comments listed. One
comment suggests that phoning Pay Pal and that finding the
number is next to impossible. I have personally, just recently
had to phone Pay Pal (on New Years eve I may add) my call
was answered promptly, I was not rushed off the phone and I
had no difficulty finding the number provided on the web site.
Sure there are policies listed at Pay Pal that I do not agree
with, but heck there are a lot of other businesses policies I
don't agree with either. It certainly does not mean that they
are BAD company and I appreciate the fact that in life I will
NOT always agree with every single business policy I come
across.
The benefits of using Pay Pal FAR out weigh any negative
commentary and it didn't cost me an arm and leg to set up
either. If it weren't for Pay Pal my business would have had
a hard time even getting off the ground because at the time
I certainly could not afford to buy a "real" merchant account.
And by using Pay Pal as my "sole" payment provider it has
enabled me to accept money, I wouldn't otherwise have had.
( I think that statement holds true for a lot of others out there
too)
Maybe some of the "stories" posted are true, but there are
ALWAYS two sides to every story.

I wanted to state how much I enjoy reading your publications. Few get my full
attention as yours does.
Marketing for over 20 years, I have seen many advancements and new technology
implemented. Some nifty new tools are helpful but always remember the true ole
"tried & true" methods still are applicable.
Each day you must expend energy to promoting your business/opportunity.
Each day you must expend energy helping others duplicate your proven effective
methods. You must have a marketing system in place that benefits your customers.
They become your partners!
There are a few I have personally found to be more effective than older methods.
Newspapers no longer yield a higher quality of leads. The audience is smaller
than using the Internet to get high exposure.
The Internet offers a wider audience in many fields. You are less limited as to
your target base.
Learn terminologies linked to services. They do differ which can make all the
difference in your marketing dollars and returns. Leads are not welcome to you
if
they are not targeted. That is, related to your field that you seek to promote.
You will have a hard time selling engines to someone who is nutritional based,
etc. it makes sense. Nor do you want to spend your hard earned money for
someone to send your message/advertisement out to an abstracted email address.
They need to truly be opt-in. Who can yo u trust?
Do your research carefully, and learn to recognize hype and false offers from
real fact.
I have personally found a select handful of cost effective and results oriented
services to positively generate positive prospects. They be of help to you.
Advertisement and Marketing trough Direct response is a real plus. Finding a
Company that will close a deal for you on your behalf is a smart method of
marketing. I can recommend one for that also.
Try these and see what they have to offer. They should ideally provide you the
tools, materials and live support on your behalf for your success to be
trustworthy. I have found them to be all that. You may to. Stay away from FFA's,
unless of course you plan to be the owner. That way your message goes out to all
who post, rather than you getting their message everytime you post to get your
ad seen. makes sense.

Hi Barb and Bogdan!
First of all, you're right Barb, I can't even view your
site. I'm a Netscape viewer. Love it because I'm
not such a target for all the viruses. I have Norton
anti-virus and happy. If you don't care to do business
with we Netscape viewers, so be it.
I love Netscape because of the ability to escape many
viruses. Why use Bill's program and have to fight it
constantly?
Windows is your choice, and if you feel comfortable
with it, I say use it. Just don't expect me to visit your
site. I can't.

Hello Barb Badder,
my first impression of your web site is not too bad with regards
to the design. But if I go a step further and take a look at the source-
code (HTML-code) then it looks all messed up. If you really want
to have control over your webpages then you should consider using
an editor like Dreamweaver (for best HTML-coding) or Frontpage 2000
(code needs to be improved manually) . Then you are not dependent
on a site building tool anymore.
I don't understand the two boxes at the left side of the bottom named
"country" and "comments" together with the two boxes on the
right.
It looks like you wanted to create a feedback form ? The HTML-coding
within the box belongs into the source code of your web page but
should not be visible . And you need a button named "Send" or
something like that with a proper "mailto" - coding or you won't
receive
any messages....
Concerning your questions of search engine placement I could tell
you lots of things but the easiest thing would be if you take a look
at the article I've written about it for my ezine. It is available at

and will answer most of your questions. You should not submit
your pages to the major search engines more often than once a
month.
But one final remark: If you really want to sell your products, you
will definitely need your own domain name like

or something like that.
Because using a free hosting service will not boost your sales and
it is the first impression that counts. I can only speak for myself but
I would never order from someone who has his pages hosted on Tripod,
Geocities, Fortunecity or any of the other free hosting services....

What I am about to tell you may fly in the face of everything you
have read about Meta-Tag optimization. The reason is simple.
The focus of virtually all articles on the subject is how to get the very
best search engine placement-- in the top 10-- for the hottest words.
In other words, how to be a BIG FISH IN A VERY BIG BOWL.
Now, assuming you could do everything right and get in the top 10
for "Internet Marketing," for instance, is your site really able
to handle
this much competition? Are you big enough to swim with the
sharks
and barracuda? If not, this is one of the fastest ways you can

Using another offline analogy, would your site more closely resemble
a major department store or a boutique? Are you trying to sell
every-
thing to everybody, or are you specializing in a few key items or
services that target a particular audience?
If your business is not producing, look for ways to be a BIG FISH IN A
LITTLE BOWL. What are you good at? What can you give
customers that the mega-sites can't? Success for a small
business
is found in specialization. If you have not written a mission
statement,
now is the time. If you have problems writing it, you need to spend

Once you have a clear mission, you are ready to trim your site of all the
excess links and non-related items that will frustrate your prospect.
Your visitors are looking for something in particular. If it is not
readily
available, don't expect them to search for it. They won't. They will
take
the path of least resistance-- the 'Back' key.
Once you have a clear mission and your site is ready, your meta-tags
need to be altered accordingly so that you can attract your targeted
audience. A great way to find the right meta-tags is by using Overture's
Search Term Suggestion Tool. Just enter in words that best describe
your site, and ta-da!

Big fish are interested in the words at the top (and so are you--read
on!).
Small fish scroll to the bottom. Keep repeating this process until
you find
very targeted search terms. Use these FIRST in your meta-tag key words
and description, followed by the more popular search terms found at the
top. Then submit your site to the search engines!

Amanpreet was just a little sucker. No more than 5'3" and
100 pounds soaking wet. That's why he avoided
confrontations at all cost. He became a bus driver thinking,
"Now, here's a job that will keep confrontations at bay forever."
One day, though, Preet's little secure world came to a close
when this big sucker got on the bus at the "A" street stop.
Seven feet, four inches tall, arms like tree-trunks. This guy
glared at Preet, then boomed out, "BIG JOHN DOESN'T PAY!"
Big John walked right past Lizard Pecker and sat in the back
of the bus.
Amanpreet was upset about this, but what could he do? John
towered over him and would break him in half if Preet
protested, so he let it go.
The next day, same route, same stop. Big John gets on the
bus, glares at Preet, and booms out, "BIG JOHN DOESN'T
PAY!!!", turns and sits in the back. Amanpreet is ashamed
that he doesn't do something about this.
When Amanpreet gets home that evening he calls the local
gym and schedules three months of training. He calls his
boss and tells him that he's taking a three month sabbatical
and will return in 90 days.
He goes through a grueling regimen with a sadistic instructor
for those 90 days. He bulks up, tones up, develops muscles,
takes Karate, Judo -- in short becomes a lean mean Big John
Eating Machine.
On that next Monday, Amanpreet steers his bus confidently
right to the "A" street stop. Big John gets on, once again, and
booms, "BIG JOHN DOESN'T PAY!!!"
But this time Lizard Pecker jumps up and says, "AND WHY
THE HELL NOT???"
With a surprised look on his face, Big John replies, "Big John
has bus pass."
