                                    ------==(*)===-----

If you were feeling comfortable with usual html form of Adland Digest, this
issue might be some sort of surprise.

Couple of subscribers contacted me, telling me that they liked better
old form of Adland Digest and because this new html form forces
them to make an extra step to go to the site to read the article, they
actually read it less often.

So I'm sending this usual old form of the digest hoping that those
subscribers who stopped reading it after changing of its form,
will have a look at my notes and tell me if this is  real problem
or these are just few people who found the new form very
unattractive.

Depending on the response I will consider offering old digest
issue for those who whish to receive it that way.

=================3 Words That Sell Like Candy!=====================
From:Larry Dotson

1) Fast

Use the word "fast" in your ad. People want fast
results, fast delivery, fast ordering, etc. Nowadays,
we usually value our time more than our money.
For example, you could say, "Our product works
fast!" Another example, "Our product comes with
fast shipping options."

2) Guaranteed

Use the word "guaranteed" in your ad. People
want to be assured they are not risking their hard-
earned money buying your product. For example,
you could say, "Our product comes with a 90-day
money-back guarantee!" Another example would
be, "Don't forget our product comes with a lifetime
guarantee!"

3) Easy

Use the word "easy/simple" in your ad. People
want easy ordering, easy instructions, easy to use,
easy payments, etc. For example, you could say,
"It's the easiest way to lose weight!" Another
example would be, "It's easy to order - just click
here and fill out your information!"

=================Promotional Items Are Great Sales Tools=====================
From:Tom Falco

One of the easiest ways to promote your
business or website is through promotional
items. It's an inexpensive way to get
the word out.

Baseball caps, t-shirts, even bumper
stickers are great ways to get your ad
out and about.

Imagine all the people you see in a day.
If you had your web address prominently
displayed on t-shirt or baseball cap,
each person who passed you that day would
be reading the name of your business.
Whether they realized it or not.

I have done that on the subways in
New York City. Imagine the thousands
of people a day who saw my web address
right on my shirt. A captive audience.

Also, all the people on the streets of
New York read the shirt as I walked along.

If you gave out shirts or caps to friends,
customers or family members, each person
wearing the item will be advertising your
business.

Recently I received a promotional pen
and on the pen was a web address and
a code to receive 15% off any purchase
on the advertised site. That's a great
idea for new and returning customers.

The pen was in reality turned into a
15% off coupon. That's a great way to
attract visitors to your website.

One realtor I know has the web address
of his many listings on a pen. Each
time someone accesses the URL address,
they see what new listings he is offering.
The pens get around (no one throws out
pens, they just seem to magically
circulate), so many people see his ad
on the pens.

One car insurance salesman uses t-shirts
to offer free quotes. He says the ad
on the shirt does the trick. In fact, he
gives t-shirts with the same ad to those
who receive the free quotes, so in turn
they are walking around promoting his
business, as well.

Promotional items do work. Whether you
are wearing the item or giving it out
as a gift, your ad will circulate and
be seen.

Prices start very low and for pennies
you can be promoting your business like
the pros.

From:Amalia Sotiriadou
Subject:Advertising/Marketing

Dear Nora,

Your product (the SF/horror book) is not something that most mass
advertising organizations are equipped to handle. You must find your own
niche market. Here is my advice:
1. Build a content-rich website around your book. Besides your book, I
would suggest that you include other information that would interest your
niche market, such as information about the genre, historical information
on what else has come before, personal info about yourself, even a free
chapter from your book people can download. A newsletter would be a very
useful addition.
2. Cross-link to other sites that deal with your subject matter, or
SF/horror literature in general. If you are not sure how to do that, may I
suggest Link Partners (www.linkpartners.com) - huge selection of sites
that want to cross-link and it's free.
3. Optimize your site for the Search Engines with keywords that target
your niche market.
4. Use pay-per-click search engines for even more targeted traffic.

If you don't know how to do these things yourself, you might want to hire
an advertising firm to do them for you (we do it for selected customers at
TGeBiz for instance) but I warn you, it will have a price tag attached
that I'm not sure you will be able to recoup with only 1 book. On the
other hand, it may be worth it if you are planning to become one of the
"greats" in literature, and after all, you never know! (Harry Potter comes
to mind!)

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to email me at

Subject:Advertising/Marketing

Hi, Rick

I really don't know you and I don't know your products.
It would make it easier to comment on your questions.

But anyway, here's my own experience, and just take it for what it is and
don't go suing me for being wrong ;-)

In my opinion safelists are only good for getting leads. Make a good
headline and give something to your subscribers, a free report or ebook or
something. But be sure that it has some value to it. That gives you
credit. Don't try to send to safelist subscribers - it doesn't work.

And the next thing I would like to point out is that in my 2 years of
internet marketing, I have never made any money selling stuff, I had to
pay for! My best results has been with free affiliate programs where you
give something and get the prospect exited and then they go and buy the
hole package.

Actually I spend over 1000$ on mlm's and never made any money on it.

But the free affiliate programs made me a chunk.

And how did I do this. I bought solo ads in various ezines and for every
100$ I spent I made 300$ (aprox)

Someone made a mention of Ken Evoy (Sitesell) and I would recommend that
you take his advice and read everything Ken has written - it will be worth
it.

He will teach you how to get in the top of the search engines and if you
are in some niche business that would be the way to go.

And don't forget to build your list. Get Web Army Knife and make every
website  you have to a subscriber rocket.

And cultivate your subscribers- don't try to sell - make them trust you
and make them believe in you. If you do that, your list will be worth a
fortune. Give them something of value and share your expertise.

Well enough of my rambling - any questions just mail to
kfs@access-business.net

Best luck to you

this is for nora weston and everybody!
I believe that all internet businesses should consider
print advertising, I really don't mean your local news
paper or the classified papers, though that is an option, I am speaking of
magazines like the "star" and
the "enquire" .They are expensive to advertise in, but
they have been making people money for a long time.
Expensive like $10.00 a word with a 10 word minimum. I
believe that their is still alot of people who are NOT
internet crazy's(like us).  And to be honest I am on alot
of opt-in list's and I have yet to be offered your book.  You could just
advertise the book outright or/and send people to your website.  Also look
for magazines and ezine, that are about fantasy, poetry, horror.  I think
its best if you create your own
opt in list because this way your reputation is not
mixed with others and you can be sure that your people
opted in, because of the spam problem and because you
don't want to waste your time on untargeted traffic. I
don't know about anyone else but I haven't seen print
advertising for most of the business I see on the web.
That's a mistake alot of people are making,at least thats how I feel.

===========C o n t i n u i n g D i s c u s s i o n (1.4)=============
From:Cathy Wagner
Subject:Advertising/Marketing

Hi Nora,

First I must ask, why wouldn't the mainstream be interested in your book? I mean
science fiction, fantasy and horror are very popular among mainstream America,
aren't they? I know I wouldn't pick a book without the promise of at least one
of those qualities. :)

Free advertising should work for you. Think about it: there are literally
MILLIONS of people who use it. What are their interests? Are they only
interested in marketing sites? NO! Their interests range through the entire
spectrum of possibilities.

If Stephen King used free advertising to announce "There is a NEW Stephen King
book" you would say of course HE could get a huge response, he is Stephen King!
But, the same people who enjoy reading his books might also be interested in
yours.

Plus, free advertising is a great way to test ad copy.

You are looking for a response, like can you get people to your site and do they
look around, before you spend money. There is usually a free way to test any
kind of paid campaign.

As a writer you may think that writing ad copy is easy, but remember that great
ad copy should draw at least some response in almost any spot. Before you spend
money on an advertising service or program, I suggest you experiment with
several types of free advertising.

You need to use every marketing tool and method that you can to get your offer
to the maximum number of prospects. In many cases, when you do not see any
result from your marketing method, it is because you are not using that method
to it's fullest.

Experiment with your ad copy and keep track of your results. There is even a
free service now that will tell you which of your one line ads (read as subject
lines) is the best. Here is the link
http://QuickPayPro.com/x/qpp.cgi?adminid=2634&id=41560 (yes, it is an affiliate
link, but the free service is very good.)

To target your advertising, you could try college students or check out some
fantasy forums and message boards. The video game set might be another good
group for you, maybe you could trade links with a game site.

Look for more tips on how to promote your offer at my site
http://www.onestopinternetbusiness.com and remember to do and learn as much as
you can for free.

Have a Profitable Day,

Cathy Wagner

Subject:Startblaze sold off?

Hi Julie

This is all part of the selloff of the Mark Joyner "empire" - I think you
will find that what has happened is that the downlines of Startblaze and
Exitblaze have been sold to OWL - there is no mention of them continuing
with the traffic programs as such.

The source code to run Startblaze and Exitblaze is also being sold (2,000
times) along with the code for the Aesop Search Engine and other scripts
and programs developed for Mark, so there should be no shortage of copycat
startpage and exit page programs etc on the market in the near future.

ROIbot has also been sold to a "mystery" purchaser (that thousands already
know the identity of) to be named on 1st June, but the ROIbot source code
is not part of the sale of packaged source code making up the "Mark Joyner
Farewell Package"

In the company of around 1,000 others so far, I have purchased the source
code package which will increase in price from $997 to $1497 for the last
500 copies. The source code itself can not be resold but programs and
services developed from the code can be used and/or sold.

Any Programmers or Webmasters interested in JV development of code
modules, or anyone who requires more information about the pro's and con's
of purchasing the code package is welcome to contact me at the email
address below.

===========C o n t i n u i n g D i s c u s s i o n (3.1)=============
From:Mireille Carrier
Subject:Online Payment Systems

Hello Peter,

There sure isn't a shortage of programs on the internet!  Hype gets people
in quick but also gets them out even faster when empty promises don't
materialize overnight.

As for selling to sellers, it all depends what you're selling.  You need
to find your niche, your target market, and concentrate on them.

Recently, I came across this great program that helps new and even savvy
marketers advertise their business.  It can be used as a stand-alone
business, or a vehicle to promote the opportunity/business you're
currently working.

I was just too curious to pass it up.  At first I joined looking for the
catch because the cost was only $7.97 per month.  I figured it was a
pretty small price to pay to find out.  After two weeks of communicating
with the owner and looking at every resource/tool that this program
offers, I found it totally AMAZING.  Feel free to have a look
http://208.39.187.170/727/Adland , you can even sign up for a free
newsletter that will tell you everything you need to know over a 7 day
period to let you judge for yourself whether this is for you or not.

I have spent the last 3 years marketing online, from affiliate marketing
(Linkshare/CJ), another affiliate program (SFI) and Melaleuca (which I now
promote offline only).  Even if I make money in each venture, it always
seemed like I was missing something. I have finally found the online
program that is right for ME and that will help me promote my other
businesses as well.

You see, I really think this is the key to making money on the internet.
You have to believe in what you're doing, what you're selling, and trust
the people you work with.  Otherwise, if you don't have faith in your
opportunity and/or products/services, how will you be able to sell it to
others?

When you're excited about a product, service, program, it shines through
and you can easily sell it.  But if your enthusiasm is lacking, your ads
will reflect that, people will sense it, and you won't make a sale.  No
matter how good your product or business may be.

Just my thoughts, of course...

Mireille

--------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a no brainer for affiliate program,
you can't get better and you can't get cheaper. $7.97/month - $79/year and

Why don't you develop an exchange program or more precisely an exchange
business area.
Title of this area could be: Review Business Area, with sub-headings of
businesses offered. Object in mind is to give entrepreneurs the chance to
see what is available for them to combine with their present business
interest and also to introduce others to what they have to offer.
How to work it without to much insanity is to have a platform where you
can put down what you have to offer and ask those who are interested to
explain briefly why they are interested in joining in your business. It
becomes mutually beneficial,if the person who joins your program has their
own business that will create additional profits for you if you join with
them.
Registering in the Review Business Area, should involve complete openness
and honesty as far as this can be accomplished.
I sell nutritional products for two companies.I am interested in sharing
with people who are concerned with building large, successful, profitable
downlines with winners.Knowledge is power only when it creates success in
giving service and making money.Cooperation,in sharing knowledge, giving
freely what you learn about how products are bringing about tremendous
improvements in peoples lives, will create a larger market for these
products through this business review system. I always try something new
myself before offering it to the general public. Most stuff is pure
unadulterated garbage. But there is also spectacular products that are not

Subject:http://www.uniquepatrols.com

Well, do I feel totally "duh." When you asked for the review on this, I
thought your "hook" was similar in meaning to a book like "What color is
your parachute." I didn't realize until I went to your page that it was
actually about flying.
Once I got that straightened out in my mind, the rest was easier. The only
two things I wanted to point out are these:
The cover of your book doesn't show, just the dreaded red X. It probably
shows in your browser because you have the original in your files on your
desktop. That's a fairly easy thing to change.
Also, when I got to the bottom where you had the links in red, the color
was so bright and blurry it made my teeth hurt. Give us old folk with old
eyes a small break, OK?
I liked your site. It loaded quickly and I liked the homey feel of it.
Probably others will suggest that it needs to be more professional,
recommend you get rid of your little flying airplane, but I liked those
things. I just changed my site based on recommendations I got here, and at
iCop, and it's very slick and professional now, I guess. I'm happy with
the changes, but I still have people tell me they liked the old site
better. One thing I've found is if you ask 20 people, you'll often get 20
different answers.
However, I'm no design expert. Actually I'm no expert on anything so you
need to take that in to account when you read this. I would certainly
encourage you to listen to the other suggestions you get from more
experienced people.
Happy flying.
Sincerely, Cheryl

demand is slow for one product or service, the others usually
pick up the slack.

If you have a web site, and if you are trying to do business on
the Internet, this is a must. You can feature your diverse
offerings there. Strategically placed ads should point people to
your web site, and if you have diversification, an added
advantage is that your advertising is doing double duty.

People may be attracted to your site by an ad for one product or
service. When they get there they will see your other offerings,
and might purchase one of them, which may not be what attracted
them there in the first place.

But here is the real thing that everyone who has a web site must
realize. You seldom make a sale on the first visit someone
makes, and there must be a reason for them to come back. There
are a number of ways to get repeat visitors. Contests have
always been a big draw, and this can take several forms. Most
people can't afford to give away "high ticket" items on a regular
basis, but there are a number of low cost alternatives.
Informational products are always a good bet.

Sticky Web Sites are a hot button these days. So what is a
"sticky" web site. I guess an acceptable definition is one that
gets the people to "stick around" because there is good content
there. There are no real criteria for good content as that
depends on the focus of your site. The bottom line is that if
people like what they see they will return.

If you expect people to come back and be a repeat visitor, you
must not only have high quality content, but it must also have
changing content. Your web site must also be recognizable as far
as its name is concerned. Meaningful names today however, are
not easy to acquire. As Dr. Kevin Nunley reported, "A recent
survey showed that of the 25,000 words we commonly use in the
English language, more than 93 percent are already registered as
domain names."

This means we have to be a bit creative when registering your
URL. Forget about the long names that have no relation to an
actual company. I'm reminded of the following joke:

"Jack loved going to the Web, and decided to have his own web
site. His URL was "MickeyGoofyPlutoMinnie.com" and I asked why
it was so long.

"Because," Jack explained, "they say it has to have at least four
characters."

While this is a bit extreme, you get the point.

Some special characters such as a dash are permitted and so are
numbers. We recently registered http://www.1-webwiz.com. While
not the most creative name, it is easy to remember. As an added
bonus, we have a different server for this addresses so that in
the event one is down, or has a long term problem, it is an easy
matter to switch. All of these are tools at your disposal to sell
your product or service. Not only should your offerings be
diverse, but so should your method of delivery.

Diversification is important in any business, but in one as
"fickle" as the Internet, it is a must.

=====================Joke of the Day   (1)===============

A guy sitting at an airport bar noticed a beautiful woman
sitting next to him. He thought to himself, "Wow, she's so
gorgeous she  must be a flight attendant; but which airline
does she work for?"

Hoping to pick her up, he leaned towards her and said,
"Love to fly and it shows?"

She gave him a blank, confused stare and he immediately
thought to himself, she doesn't work for Delta.

A few seconds later, another slogan popped into his head.
He leaned towards her again, "Something special in the air?"

She gave him the same confused look. He mentally kicked
himself and scratched American Airlines off of the list.

Next he tried "I would really love to fly your friendly skies?"

This time the woman barked back at him "Man, what the
f... do you want?"

The man smiled, then slumped back in his chair, "Ahhh,
Air Canada".
