Joke of the Day

================== Word from publisher ====================

Greetings All

Welcome  450 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

Make Adland Digest your own advertising space.

Does this sound unreal?
Well!!  Here is the idea.

We have done a lot of changes to our system recently, and
one of them was to give more value to our advertisers here
in Adland Digest.

We accept paid advertisements to support this publication.
We include several ads mixed with the content,
and then letter is sent to the list.

As long as this letter resides in the user mailbox, there is
always the chance that advertiser can  receive some clicks.
Once message is deleted from the user box, this means
end of advertising spot.
Actually not quite. All of Adland digest issues are archived
here and we know
for a fact that they are quite frequently visited.
Try this search at Google.
There is about  3,710 entries.

What if you had advertised in Adland Digest a year ago, and you
are still receiving hits due to this ad from our archives, but the link
is either outdated or you don't promote this opportunity anymore.

Here is a new concept.

All archived digest issues dynamically will display ads which
were posted in them.  This means that every time the page
is opened, we will go to our database and retrieve the
information for the user who paid for the ad in particular
digest issue. I hope you see the point.
Even one year from now, you will be able to take advantage of
money spent on the promotional idea which was good then.

You will just update your ad using your Adlandpro
account and traffic will flow free to your new website
or another page.

Get your ads here.

It has shortcuts to Adlandpro internal links, login boxes to
user accounts and other places of interests and of course
switch-able popup blocking button.
If any of this links is used, affiliate who promoted the
toolbar gets credits. If we sell any of our products,

You can get your free Pop-up blocker here.

If you would like to offer Popup blocker toolbar with links
to your own business, we can build one for you.
You will just need to provide us with your logo and links
you wish to be included.  The price can range from

Hello Jeff,

My friends, Warren, has shown me a site that can be easily duplicated and
involves nothing but the use of free tools, resources, and programs. In
all of the programs listed, I've built the majorities of my downlines
through this website.

Take advantage of this. Based around nothing but free and useful
information, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

As on getting traffic, this site helps me generate at least an extra
200-300 hits a day.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the website or if
you need help building it.

Jeff should use free article posting and free and low cost value ads, to
build his business. In cases where a marketer feels
awkward to write, a ghost writer can be used. Ghost writing isn't free but
it can cost less than some types of large scale advertising.

Ezine publishers like fresh and unique content so article posting is a
great way to get a biz message out. For the cost of one ghost written
article, an article can be submitted to a ton of ezines, for free
exposure. For those who can write their own articles, it is usually free
to post them individually, in ezines.

Once a marketer reaches an income level that allows paid advertising....
then good, guaranteed, multi-post, value ads are a smart way to go. Fee
based article "posting services" can also save time, submitting articles
into ezines.

I am sure some list members can refer Jeff to a ghost writer, if he is
interested in having articles written for him. I won't post my business
here because I am a ghost writer.

Jeff, Request a site review here at the Digest.  It doesn't matter how or
where you advertise if your site doesn't sell.  Get your site right first
so when people arrive you have the best possible chance of making a sale.

After your site is right, then make sure you are advertising to people
that will buy what you are selling.

Go to and take their free training.
I recommend all of their products but if you are broke, just take the free
stuff until you make some cash.  They will teach you how to get traffic
from search engines which is free and targeted.

That keyword or phrase then needs to appear in your

All the keyword-focused pages on your site need to

This is the BASIC mistake most beginners make. Unfortunately, it's not
enough to put up a site and expect that people will come to it. You are
competing with billions of websites on the net... How will people "just
find" yours?
When you decide to go into business - any business - you must have a good
promotion plan and some capital. Imagine this in the real world: You
opened up a tiny store in a back alley in the city of New York, without
even a sign or a shingle. I suppose SOME people might find you by chance
or by word of mouth if you have friends recommending you, but chance
traffic? Forget it!
Like any business in the "real" or the "virtual" world, if you want to
make a success of it, you should have a promotion budget. I'm not talking
about thousands of dollars here, although admittedly that would help! I am
talking about a moderate monthly budget of $100-$200.
There ARE free ways to promote your website - start page exchanges,
safelists, but as with everything, you get what you pay for.
Internet Marketing, like any business requires a lot of work, dedication
and some capital. If you are not prepared to give these things to your
business, perhaps it would be better if you stuck to your day job.

Jeff, As far as I can see the only way to get traffic is to get your
web-site listed in the search engines. Especially a web-site just starting
out. If no one can find you you will not get any hits. This is a long and
tedious task. You need to have your site listed among the group on the
first 3 pages of the listing of what-ever you use as your key search
words. I concentrated on one set of key words and it really took about 2
years to start getting enough hits to not be able to count them on one
hand per day.
You need to use the key words in your kind of like I did.
META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="lawn mower,lawn mowers,lawn mower repair and
so on.
I concentrated on lawn mower repair as the key words I type in the search
engine as that is what the site is about. You will need to figure out what
your site is about and concentrate on these 3 or 4 words.

Well, first off let me say, I feel for you.

But you blew it...

Blew what?

You want traffic to your site but you didn't give us your site address.
It's kinda hard to advise someone when you have no idea what kind of site
they're trying to drive traffic to. And the fact that by giving us your
site address, you would have gotten a lot of hits from Adland readers
wondering what it was all about. So, you blew it.

Write back, and this time, give us your link.

As for any low cost advice now, have you tried E-zine advertising? Is your
site Search Engine friendly? Does your site have a "Links" page?
Exchanging links with other sites is one cheap way to help your ranking in
the Search Engines and there by getting more visits.

I'm sure some helpful Adland readers will come back with some ideas, but
without knowing what your site is all about it's kinda hard for me to tell
you much more right now.

Subject:Joyner has "unretired"

Hi Bogdan and all,

It has been a while since I've taken time to respond to any comments, I
have read most of the issues though. When I read the latest about Mark
Joyner I felt compelled to respond :-).

Personally, I wouldn't trust Mark Joyner as far as I could throw him. He
will never erase the stigma of "Cash Evolution" - need I say more ???

I will say one thing good about his latest venture, he has found the right
company and products to promote.

I guess he figures he has a big enough "flock of sheep" to follow him into
Life Force International, create a nice residual income for
himself,(already made Life Force 'Platinum' qualification), and then he'll
be off to another venture. The thing is with this company is that if he
continues to buy products every month, and those in his downline
organization do too, he can walk away with a nice cheque every month AFTER
he walks away from the business.

If you want to build a solid, stable residual income with Life Force
International, have committed leaders WITH Ethics AND Integrity, leave
Mark Joyner alone.

I don't deal with HYPE too well. He has some of the best written hype
available online, and that was one of the reasons I never unsubscribe
from his autoresponder e-mails :-). I liked to see when he would lose it
with one program and move on. I still receive StartBlaze, Roibot, etc.,
even "My Free Agent Path" e-mails now, too :-).

True, his marketing ploys did make money for him and a few others, but, I
don't believe the income they created was of a 'residual' nature, so when
sales slowed, time to move on to the next program, scam or scheme. I
receive e-mails from a few other 'gurus' whom I look at the same way.

To create and maintain a business online AND maintain your credibility
takes a lot of hard work, just ask Bogdan :-). I'm sure he could enlighten
you :-). He's had his share of problems over the years. He's weathered the
storms because he's committed to his business, and he is still here
stronger today and growing stronger every week. That's why I'm still here.
After 4 years, I'm only now starting to see a difference on the plus side
in what it costs me every month to what my cheques add up to each month
:-). From here on in, it just gets better :-).

Fast money does not last - here today, gone tomorrow. Creating a business
for life takes hard work and dedication. Don't forget, it takes a few
dollars too.(Something I never had in the beginning). It takes money to
make money - you need leads, advertising, etc.

Maybe he calls this "Free Agent Path" for a reason. Once you sign up and
start making him money through your autoship purchases each month, he
walks away from it and you become a "Free Agent".

Just a thought :-).

And what is he really offering in the way of making money?

What he's built is nothing more then a fancy Downline Club and the hook is
his name and those who joined him offering to talk to you.

Like all Downline Clubs, you will be asked to join this thing and that
thing and pay your hard earned cash to do so, all with the slim hope
everyone else in the Club will do the same. You will be hit with E-mail
after E-mail begging you to join whatever it is you need to pay for and to
call, encourage and beg those above you and below you to do the same.

And do you have a say in what they are telling you to join?

Of course you don't. They make that decision and they make the MONEY. Most
of the sheep who follow Mark and the Boys will not make a dime. And the
few who do make a little will be left out in the cold when this mover and

greatest piece of garbage.

But you can bet Mark and the boys will make out like Bandits and laugh all

Subject:Free Safelist advertising other ways

I own a safelist now and I'm having some success with it, so far there
aren't a lot of members so everyone is pretty responsive.
I started out by offering free and pro and giving away some of the pro and
just charging $1 per month to the first 300 pro members.
Once I get the first 300 members I plan to get more bandwidth start a
platinum membership as well, for maybe $5 a month.
I also use traffic exchanges quite a bit and other free safelists to
promote mine. There are some that have a lot of members and are really
responsive because they put click links in them that you have to click to
get points to be able to send out the e-mails more frequently.
I also use these in combination with a tabbed browser that allows me to
load several of them at a time and I can either do the click exchanges or
autosurf while I send out ads or do something else.
This frees up a lot of time and I'm able to relax a lot more and spend
more time with my husband.
Another thing that I just started learning is how to work with the paint
program and making my own banners for the banner exchanges.
I've met some really great people lately who have taught me how to do a
lot of things and have even sent me some really nice programs through
instant messenger.
There are all sorts of ways to turn time into money and to save time doing
it too.
You have to be creative.
I look at it like this.
When you cook a meal, you make sure that what takes the longest gets put
on the heat first and the thing that doesn't take as long gets put in
last, and then everything gets done at the same time.
It's the same thing with marketing.
Do the tasks that take the longest first, and get them done, then you can
concentrate on the smaller less important things and everything gets done
at once.
Setting up an autoresponder was the one thing that terrified me. I had
tried it once and ended up sending out all kinds of e-mail and had no idea
what I was doing. But once I sat down and really paid attention to the
training, it was easy, and after doing it once it got easier.
Whatever it is that you dread doing the most, or are afraid that you can't
learn, make yourself do it.
Then practice it until you get it down pat.
It takes lots of time to learn all that has to be done, but so does being
a wife, a mom, a dad or a husband.
Everything we do takes practice.
As long as you keep going and don't quit,  you'll eventually succeed.
And if anyone needs help with any of this,  you can always e-mail me.
I'm online a lot and I love to show people how to do things the easy way.

I took a look at Alice's site. I do think she has answered her own
questions. It is very difficult to showcase this many companies and
service providers, without having information overload. Organization of
the offers is paramount. Having several hundred merchants and making no
money to advertise, is counter-productive. The site needs a major
overhaul. I suggest that Alice make friends with an experienced webmaster,
in order to make the site more eye appealing and visitor friendly. Until
she can afford paid webmaster services or get the skills she needs for
this type of presentation, she will be spinning her wheels with the set-up
she now displays.
I know this list has at least 2 members

Dear Alice,

Cut them loose your merchants.  Your site looks like a zoo and no wonder
you get no sales.  Even if you have money to advertise, that money is
better spent on creating mini-sites.

First of all, try to use alt tags for all of your pictures. You miss a
golden opportunity to add more keywords.

Secondly, you have nbsp;nbsp all over the second paragraph. Check your
html coding for missing a quote.

Pick 1 product that you 'LOVE' or a family of products that have the same
theme and make a website for them.

Do not skim on web site domains.  Have one domain for one theme and on
each page, put links to the rest of the theme family.

Focus, focus, focus, focus ... On the Internet, if you are not focus, you
are not only getting zero sales but you go crazy as well.

concentrate on a few good programs and/or services.

I found I did much better when I utilized a few programs and followed

Quality programs and services are better than a million not-so-good

First of all, the site is too wide for 600 x 800 resolution, which I think
is still commonly used so you might want to try to make it narrower. There
is also an error in your first paragraph
(      ).

On the pages listing the merchants I think you should make all the links
open in a new window. Let the customer keep browsing your site while the
stores are loading.

As for whether you should cut back on the number of merchants, it's hard
to say. If you feel they are all quality sites then you should probably
keep them.

Otherwise, I found the site easy to navigate and enjoyed the images you
used. Good luck to you.

Several things I noticed when I visited your website,
remember I'm no guru so you can take my comments for
what it's worth.

Right off the bat, you have several popoups and non of
them was a subscriber box to cath your prospect's email address or any
free giveaways that I noticed.  After
seaching.  There's an error on your ad copy on the
front page which you need to fix, it's an html code
for hard returns.  When I click on several category
links, I didn't see any actual products, just banners
after banners.  Maybe you should replace the banners
with actual products since banner ads click thru are
around at dismal 0.12.  Why not ad your picture on
your About Us page with your home address so shoppers
may feel comfortable who they are dealing with, just
like John Olson site, (handsome guy would you say?.)

I don't know if you know this but your site has a page
rank on google of 2 out ten which is not bad, if anyone
wants to reciprocate link with you, you can tell them
that.  Basically your site needs alot of work, just try
to keep it simple and show more products instead of

I got on the site & immediately another page popped over the top.  I think
that could lose you visitors before they get to read any of your home

Might be an idea to have less merchants, too much choice can overwhelm or
visitor spend too long browsing & never gets around to actually buying

Try replacing banners with a few lines of personal recommendation.  e.g.
Wicks End candle suppliers.  Their products look great, if you had some
text such as "Wicks End really is your one stop candle shop.  They have a
huge variety of beautiful candles. From A-W(Aromatherapy to Wedding),from
candles for special occasions, or gifts or to enhance your living space.
My personal favourite is their hand made scented pyramid candles which
come in 22 different fragrances. (The appleblossom makes the house smell
like spring).

If you can make the links so they open in a separate window, your visitor
come back to your site after looking at the merchants, rather than get
lost surfing.

That means they could then click on another of your links & more change of
a sale for you.

Hope this helps

Oh boy... Where to start....

First off, I want to thank God I now have Cable Broadband so I didn't have
to wait while all those banners loaded. Thank you Lord.

For the rest of your visitors, I wish them luck and patience. They're
going to need it.

Next, the page is to wide. I have a larger Monitor and still had to close
out my favorites in my IE browser to view the whole page.

What to say next....

Well, this comes to mind... Every page needs all the Navigation links. And
you should also have a second set on the bottom of every page. No one
likes to back up to the page before so they can continue shopping. So, get
the navigation links on every page, side and bottom. You're visitors will
thank you.

Oh, and please kill some of those pop ups. Your pages are going to take
long enough to load as they are and the pop ups will only slow them more.

Now, most of your pages have the same white background, but some of them
don't. And there was one page that didn't have anything on it. Please,
keep the pages looking the same, it will help your page load time.

And what makes shopping at your Mega Net Mall different then shopping at
any other Mega Net Mall site? As someone who also offers affiliate links
to shop from, I must say you've got a long way to go. At least I try and
limit the number of banners on my pages and I keep them small to help the
load time.

Read this and learn from it, NO One is going to sit at their computer
waiting for all your Banners to load so they can go to another site and
Shop. And here's another tip, your Home Page needs to Load faster then
just about any other page on your site. It's the one most will enter your
site through. And if it sits there while all those banners load, your
customers are going to click off to some other site and shop with someone

And to answer one of your questions, "Should I cut Back on the number?"

Yes, and focus the site more toward one thing, Camping, or Travel, or Pets
or Home Improvement or whatever you know a little about and tailor your
merchants and affiliates around that. Offer good tips on whatever you
focus the site around and good content and you will start seeing more
sales and more visitors.

I am sure there will be more advice coming so I'll stop now. Good Luck.

=====================Joke of the Day   (1)===============

A man goes to the doctor and tells him that he hasn't been
feeling well. The doctor examines him, leaves the room and
comes back with three different bottles of pills.

The doctor says,

"Take the green pill with a big glass of water when you get
up.  Take the blue pill with a big glass of water after lunch.
Then just before going to bed, take the red pill with another
big glass of water."

Startled to be put on so much medicine the man stammers,

"Jeez doc, exactly what's my problem?"

Doctor says,

"You're not drinking enough water."
