Joke of the Day
=========================

================== Word from Moderator ====================

Hello to all.

Welcome 1,309 new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

Bogdan wanted some more time in his week to take care of things, so he
asked me to take over moderating the AdlandPro Digest and I was crazy
enough to say yes to him.

So, for a while you're stuck with me. I'll do my best. If I just get the
spacing right for the header...

For a while now, there have been many discussions about different MLM and
Network Marketing companies. Pro and con, and that's fine. Since this is a
Digest that is here to help you understand how to work, market and earn
online, talking about MLM and Network Marketing is understandable.

But more then once it has been suggested that the best way to earn online
is to have your own product, develop it and sell it. So, as a way of
getting some different information out to the list, I'd like to see some
thoughts on ways to earn online other then MLM or Network Marketing.

This might include developing your own product or service, affiliating
with different established companies through places like Commission
Junction and Link Share.

I see a lot of people selling their own soaps or candles for example. And
I wonder how well they are doing?

Do you have any thoughts on products normal people can make or develop and
sell online? How to market or develop a mailing list for those products?

Let's see if we can get away from MLM for a couple of weeks, shall we.

Enjoy and God Bless you and your work,

John Olson

Subject: Hi Guys, I'm New To This!

Hi Marion :)

You will probably get a whole lot of responses to your question. Everyone
has their own pet theory on how to best promote on the internet and they
will ALL promise you success. The truth is that only about 5% of those who
start an online business succeed. Most of them lose a lot of money in the
process. Am I frightening you? If you are not prepared to give 150% of
yourself to make your business succeed then I hope that I AM frightening
you!

Success anywhere takes three things: time, effort, money. You MUST invest
all three. Shortcuts will probably do you more damage than good.
Having said all that, I want to add that I realized long ago that even
people who apply themselves and invest on the three basic needs can go
very, very wrong on the Internet. This is not their fault, usually, it's
simply a matter of following the wrong advice. In my humble opinion, time
and effort are the first two things you must invest a LOT of. Learn all
you can about the various methods of promoting and advertising. Don't be
taken in by every "quick and glittering solution" that comes across your
desk. Research, research, research. Learn to build relationships with your
prospects. Learn to listen to THEIR needs and see if you can provide a
solution for them. Sound like a lot of work? It is. But like I said, there
are no shortcuts to success.

Marion, The best place to start in my opinion is with adland pro. It's the
first thing I started with and it gave me the tools I needed to learn how
to place ads, a free e-mail account, and a website for free.

Join a few safelists, get into a good program with the support of a fellow
networker you trust who will mentor you.

Don't spend money right off the bat. There are plenty of ways to do this
for free until you're comfortable with your new business.

And treat this as a business and not just a hobby.
Think of yourself as having already arrived and keep setting goals and
working on them daily.

Don't let people who say "you'll never make money on the internet" make
you quit or give up. Let those comments make you even more determined to
show them that you can do it.

Go to yahoo groups and look over a few group pages. Find some people who
share your interests and get into discussions. You're already doing that,
so you're on your way to success already!

>From John Olson
Subject: In Defense of William Jaroske

Kindra,

Well, I'm not going to lambaste William here, but I feel the need to
comment on what you wrote toward the last of your post:

"Here is what I have learned in my 5 years of Internet Marketing: If you
would like to make more money on the Internet, create your own system.
Lord knows, I am still stuck in the follower stage. I am an affiliate of
SFI.  At times I like being a SFI follower and at times I despise it.  I
use my experience with SFI as a testing ground for marketing techniques so
I can build my own system one day that will rake in profits that I can
retire off of.  For now I am content working on my website, helping
people, educating them, and educating myself in the process."

I want to warn you about becoming one of those "success stories" through
the trust of a lot of "followers" who blindly believe in whatever new
"system" you come up with. Unless you are extremely gifted, any "system"
you come up with, will cause many, if not most "followers" to lose money
so you can "retire" off it.

Oh, there will be some who will do all right. But most of the "followers"
of your "system" or any "system" will fail and lose money so you can get
rich.

Don't become a "I'm in it for me, and I don't care about anyone else" kind
of person. Money isn't everything. By itself, it's not a bad thing to
have, but it's what you do to get it, that can destroy your life.

I have been around long enough to know that there is NO System and Never
will be ANY System that can guarantee everyone will come out ahead. There
are always many losers and few winners.

I don't pretend to know what kind of "system" you're thinking of putting
together or if you ever will put one together. Just remember this, if you
make money because others lose money in your "system" you will lose in the
long run.

It's a sad comment on this industry, that many of the so called "Success
Stories" we hear about, were built on the losses of hundreds if not
thousands of "followers" who believed in the lies that were told them.
Don't think of "raking in profits" from the dreams of the "followers" who
believed in you, while they lose their profits.

Any job is a risk, especially any sales job, and that's what MLM is, a
sales job, whether we're selling the products or the dream. The sad thing
is, if ALL we sell is the dream, most of those who believe in that dream
will fail. There has to be REAL products to sell before those dreams can
be fulfilled

I wish you luck, as I wish William luck.

John Olson

"When I read Mr. Jaroske's post on Herbalife, I had to sit on my hands not
to reply. LOL Was I surprised? Of course not! Mr. Jaroske's domain
name, dumbexpert, says it all. Couldn't be more appropriate!

I wouldn't worry at all about his comments on anything. Sometimes an
"ignore" attitude when no ignore button exists is the best solution."
End quote

Well Mireille, once again you like ignoring the truth. And as the means to
hype your Melaleuca products once again.

Quote
"You don't sell anything and you
don't buy any product for resell. There are no distributors, no
salesforce. People buy directly from the company and the products are
shipped directly to them. It works somewhat like Costco, where you have
to be a member to buy from the company. The difference is with Melaleuca
you get paid to refer other customers, and the membership fee (US $29 or
CDN $39) is a one time fee, not a membership that you need to renew every
year."
End quote

If there are no distributors and no salesforce. How do you expect to make
money with it. I see nothing but contradictions here. Just more hype and
lies to tell. I guess you did not learn that much from our discussion at
the WWSN forum.

You don't sell anything. What a crock. But you do sell people the
melalueca opportunity.

Quote
"Most products are fairly competitive with comparable QUALITY at Wal-Mart
or other specialty store (such as The Body Shop), sometimes they're even
cheaper."
End quote

Some will say Melaleuca is far superior to anything. Which is another
lie.

How can it be competitive to Wal-Mart when Melaleuca products are much
more expensive than them? Does not make sense. Why do you continue in this
pipe dream?

The following case reports are from the FDA and it provides proof that
Melaleuca products are not safe as they claim since the products contain
tea tree oil. Which is known to be toxic.

http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/costop96.html

http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/dailys/01/Jun01/060701/060701.htm

Not to mention the company has a bad history of ripping people off and the
Ripoff Report has detailed reports on Melaleuca and their products. Just
type in Melaleuca in the search Box

Side effects reported from the use of tea tree oil on the skin are
generally mild and temporary at the site of application. They include:
Burning, Dryness, Irritation, Itching, Redness, Stinging.

William,

Since I'm moderating the digest now, I thought I'd get back to you right
away.

Briefly, What do you want for a free program? BuildReferrals is useful,
costs nothing and offers a lot. It's not the gold of Internet Marketing,
but it's not bad either. And for the beginner, it's not a bad place to
start getting your feet wet.

At the risk of giving William a swelled head for starting this, does
anyone else have comments, pro and con to BuildReferrals?

The program it is now, not what it was in the past.

As a former educator turned successful entrepreneur, I heartily endorse
the idea of training recruits, and looked at the webcast idea with
interest.

It recently hit me right between the eyes that all the text-only training
that people get over the internet severely limits our ability to train
others effectively.

People have different communication styles and they also have different
learning styles. Very few people are self-trained from handbooks, only.
Yet that is mostly what internet audiences get. Hence, they don't have a
very great chance of learning, well.

For my part, I intend to present my training materials multi media asap,
because I regard myself as a much better teacher than I have been on the
internet so far.

There seems to be several new multimedia type offers going around the Web
these days, which can be used to train. I'm wondering what your thoughts
are regarding these types of tools and offers?

I know that most people are still using a dial up connection, so even
making use of online Voice rooms becomes difficult for some. What are your

Need some CONSTRUCTIVE advice on new website

Hi folks!

I'm new to the online business world (old to the internet ;-)) I've seen a
few posts here already regarding critiques of websites.

I'd really appreciate any CONSTRUCTIVE advice about mine. My company (no
flaming, please ;-)) has standard websites to purchase for recruiting and
retail. Unfortunately, they cannot be personalized. So I created my own,
through Trellix.

I'm still building it, but think I now have the basics in place. I've just
checked with the company and apparently I can copy more verbatim product
photos/descriptions so I'll be adding those. One targeted content ppv site
has already rejected my new site since I only had one product listed and
then a link to my retail site.

Hopefully y'all can understand the point I'm trying to make. My brain is
fried from info overload! But I've seen some really good pointers already
on this forum and I'd sincerely appreciate any time you can spend scanning
my website.

Accomplish Difficult Tasks Easily
By Cathy Wagner

Is there something you've been meaning to do? If you're like me, you
probably have a long "to-do" list, but have you noticed that some tasks
come and go very quickly on that list while other things linger.

Look at your list now. Is there anything you can cross off today because
it is just not necessary anymore? Probably not. The long standing items on
my list are usually large, time consuming projects or difficult tasks that
I am unsure of the best way to complete.

It is much easier to stick with what we know and more rewarding to cross
several items off our lists in the course of a day than just one.

Are Your Difficult Tasks Really Important?

But, think about it. Why is each item on your list? Will it make your life
easier? Will it increase sales? Odds are if you do it once, it will be
over and you won't really have to do it again. And, if you do have to do
it again, it will go much faster next time, once you get the hang of it.

Where will you be if you don't do it? Will your sales remain sluggish?
Will you continue to be disorganized? Will you fail to get you project off
the ground?

Well, what are you waiting for? My tip today is to pick something
(anything)that's been on that list for a while and just do it.

How?

Do you need help? ASK! You probably know someone who has experience with
your particular task. Ask them. In most cases they will be able to give
you advice that will make your work much easier, but in some cases, you
may find that they will be glad to do it for you! You might even be
surprised to learn that they can use your help too. No one is expected to
know how to do everything and it is truly a sign of strength to ask for
help when you need it.

Building a business network or Mastermind Group is the best way to get
difficult tasks done. Interacting and working with colleagues will help
you to see your own strengths and more effectively accomplish your goals
using ALL of the resources available to you.

For example. I know a little HTML. I update my web site every week and I
can even create simple pages relatively easily. But, whenever I have a
more complicated web site related task, I always ask my web designer and
here is why: it takes me a week to do what she can do in an hour.

We have a mutually beneficial relationship, we work together and are glad
to help each other with simple tasks. Of course when I need a lot of work
she gets paid, but some things that seem huge to me are easy for her to do
in just a few minutes. She doesn't feel as inconvenienced as I would if
someone asked me to do the same thing.

But...

The first thing people say to me when I tell them this is, "But I don't
have any skills I can trade." My answer to this is "Rubbish!" Everyone has
skills.

While my web designer is a whiz with web sites, she knows relatively
little about online promotion, other than search engine placement. I keep
her up to date on other methods and I've given her a couple of tools that
she really loves. I can also proofread work she does for others and help
her test the functionality of her designs.

Think about what you CAN do and who you know. Talk to them, find out if
they have any needs you could fill. Then, make the time to help them and
get some of your more challenging tasks done!

Father Murphy walks into a pub in Donegal, and says to the first man he

The man said, "I do Father."

The priest said, "Then stand over there against the wall."

Then the priest asked the second man, "Do you want to go to heaven?"

"Certainly, Father," was the man's reply.

"Then stand over there against the wall," said the priest.

Then Father Murphy walked up to O'Toole and said, "Do you want to go to

O'Toole said, "No, I don't Father."

The priest said, "I don't believe this. You mean to tell me that when you
die you don't want to go to heaven?"

O'Toole said, "Oh, when I die, yes. I thought you were getting a group
together to go right now."
