Why People are Not Making Money on the Internet
 By Alan Cheng

Joke of the Day

================== Word from Moderator ====================
Welcome to the 806 new subscribers since last time.

My Friends,

This is the last Digest with me as your moderator, I have passed it
back to Bogdan. I probably shouldn't have taken it on in the first
place, but I was honored to have been asked and I am grateful
to have had the chance.

The truth is, my life is going in another direction. I just don't have
much interest in Marketing or Promoting anymore. Oh, I'm not
pulling a Mark Joyner, I'm keep my sites and my Marketing
Course going. But very passively.

As many of you may know, I am a Christian, and the Lord is
calling me to do something different, something for Him. Marketing
is not where He wants me. A few months ago, I started writing a
book about my late wife and that is what He is calling me to finish.
So, that is where I am going to be spending my time. After that, it's
up to the Lord where He wants me to go. My life is in His Hands.

My heart is just not in this game of online marketing anymore.

I want to thank all of you for your support, thoughts and prayers.

And, since I asked in the last two Digests about your mistakes, I
thought I would let you in on some of mine in this last post as

Mistake Number ONE: Believing everything that was written on
a Website about how easy it would be to make money if I signed up.

Number TWO: Believing someone who called me and told me how
much he was going to help me if I laid out the cash for his program.

Number THREE: Believing online Gurus or program owners when they
told me and others how great it was going to be for everyone Soon.

Number FOUR: Believing that just getting hits to a site will turn into
sign ups and cash. And not understanding that quality is better then

And so, there you have some of my mistakes. Not the only ones to
be sure.

And now I take my leave of you. Oh, I may post a reply sometime,
you never know. But for the most part, I'm going to be working on
my book and studying the Word of the Lord.

Take Care and God Bless You,

John Olson

Subject: Mistakes

Hi John,

I'm not surprised you didn't get much response to your question
last week, my guess is we're all still trying to forget them!

I know I have made many mistakes along the way and it's
embarrassing! While my rational brain knows it is not really true,
my irrational brain thinks that the whole world has seen my
mistake and is pointing and laughing at me. lol

Let's see, one of my biggest mistakes was not getting the account
information when I first registered my domain. That may sound
silly to some, but as a beginner I had no idea how to register
a domain name or what I might need the login information for.
I had my host register it and everything worked fine, great!
Eventually, when I wanted to change hosts, I started to think
about how to access my registration account. I had to ask the
host and luckily they gave it to me with no problem.

Another early mistake was uploading web pages with graphics that
included the wrong path. I know a lot of people do this when they
start. :) You try to include a graphic from your hard drive, you
select it and it looks gorgeous so you upload it the page.
Unfortunately, people online can't see it because the web page
is looking for it on YOUR hard drive! Worse is when your helpful
computer supplies the image from your hard and you don't realize
that the rest of the world can't see it!

SPAM. Almost everyone sends some SPAM when they start, mostly
without even knowing it. Replying to ad confirmation emails is
not allowed, who knew? And buying a list to send ads to is SPAM,
too. Those people didn't say, "Cathy, send me your ad," so they
cannot be considered an "opt-in" list. Again who knew? Outblaze
STILL won't let my mail get through to some domains! To this day
I wonder how list sellers can get away with it.

How long did it take you to realize you must always include list
addresses in the Bcc field? Not long for me! I had people
writing me hate mail immediately and one kind, but snide, person
clued me in to using the Bcc field.

How about posting an ad with no URL? Come on! You've done it!
I've done it, too. :)

Less common mistakes I've made include editing a bit of ad copy
that had finally made it to the first page a huge site. That
little boo-boo put me at the end of the list, totally burying
my ad again.

I tried a loading page once. One that said "Please wait while
the site is loading" so that viewers would see the complete page
at once instead of loading bit by bit. BIG MISTAKE! Nobody ever
bothered to wait. :(

I've changed hosts and forgot to include subdirectories when
I uploaded the site to the new server.

I've had various bugs, bad URL's and web site snafus that are
really too numerous to mention. I have grown to hate cgi.

I don't know if this is really my mistake, but it sure looked
like one to a brand new client. My hard drive crashed right in
the middle of emailing back and forth with him. I never heard
from him again.

I hope this is the kind of food for thought you were looking
for John. And I hope that readers are sympathizing with me
rather than just getting a good laugh. ;)

I would like to add that these kinds of mistakes are the
reason why I started my web site in the first place, to help
people avoid them!

Have a Profitable Day,

Cathy Wagner

Subject: Mistakes

Finally a topic I could write a book about. Mistakes! (;

I really could fill this entire newsletter with my past mistakes and
thanks for the opportunity to write about them because I would have
saved a lot of grief as a new marketer if someone had told me about
them in the first place.

I'll try to keep this as brief as possible but I think the two areas I
made the most mistakes are follow up and follow through

Follow up

This is key as a marketer. If you send out a letter or respond to
someone with information always follow up a few days or weeks later.
You never know if they misunderstood your information or filed it away
and forgot about it. Since they are already a 'warm' market for you a
gentle prodding may move them from ineffective to effective for your
ultimate goal. Don't do it more than twice over a few weeks though.
You don't want to become annoying unless it is an autoresponder ad.
Then you can let it follow up many times. Also, follow and follow up on
your ad campaigns. Many times I've had companies 'forget' to put my
ads through because they were too busy. There have also been times
when companies did not deliver what they promised and so it is
imperative to track everything you do.

Follow Through

Follow through is also important. If you have a plan follow it to it's
logical outcome. Many times I have made plans for advertising and
either didn't do it or didn't follow all the steps only to see my
campaign fall flat on it's face. If you have a successful plan put it down
and make sure you follow every step every time. If it isn't worth writing
down it isn't worth doing and it's a LOT easier to forget.

One final bonus tip. Always be thinking about ways to improve your
business and always carry a little notepad with you. ALWAYS be
student of the game! I have some of my best business ideas when I'm
usually miles away from the computer screen. It quite often comes
from ideas I get while out in the real world or while I have a few
moments to think while waiting in line or something like that. The
reason I say carry a notebook with you is because you will probably
forget it by the time you get home. I have tested this myself. I have
written an idea I had and put it in my pocket. A few hours later I
couldn't remember it for the life of me so WRITE IT DOWN!

Wait! Here's another bonus bonus tip. NEVER QUIT and KEEP
growing and changing. You never know when your idea could be
yesterday's news so constantly keep up with the changing needs
of the marketplace and keep reading fantastic resources like Adland
digest(do I kiss up well or what? (;)

I hope you got something from that,

If you did then WRITE IT DOWN!! (;

Subject: About Us

I just read another disappointing "About Us"

I say this because as far too many of these "about us's" is that they
are NOT "about them."

It is just more "selling" about the site and/or the company.

To me, a real "About Us" tells us
about the people who are behind the website and/or the company.

What are their names?

Do they have any experience relative
to the business, or whatever their website is about?

What is their street address?

Phone and/or fax Number?

If they are asking for money and do not provide that information, they
would never get a penny from me.

And even if they are not asking for money and still do not provide that
information, what are they trying to hide?

Can they be trusted?

As someone said, just my 2.5 cents

Why People are Not Making Money on the Internet
 By Alan Cheng

Are you one of those people that is succeeding with their
business? Or the type that's losing money every month
buying e-books, joining new affiliate programs and purchasing
new software. If you are the latter type, have you ever thought
about why you're not succeeding?
Well I can tell you that the majority of people I know deep
down does know why they are not succeeding. Its just that
its Human Nature that we try and block out the answer from
our brains and we try and not to confront it.
I bet even you've more than once avoided things
in your life which requires effort and took the easy path.
While at the same time you're giving yourself reasons or
should I say excuses for just plain laziness.
One of my classic examples is Ill do the dishes after I
finish browsing this topic on the internet. But after finishing
the surfing, I'll do the dishes after reading the newspaper.
Oh damn, its nearly midnight, oh well, Ill do the dishes
tomorrow since I have to go to work the next morning.
No big deal in not doing the dishes tonight, right?
Yes, I bet you have similar instances like me ;-)
And this process goes on and on and on.
Same with your business on the internet. You go for get rich
quick programs because they are quick, attractive, don't
require much effort from you. After a few months you've
lost a lot of money but continue to join these programs.
Losing money every month. Aha... but there are guys
advertising that they are making a slaughtering with such
programs? But who are these people? Well, they're the guys
advertising the programs and they're the guys who own the
So why don't you join real online programs that really work
and earns you money for your advertising and work?
The answer is because:
a. it takes you ages to get rich unlike the get-rich programs
which require a few months of your time
b. it needs you to work and you don't think you can do it.
You have read this far in the article so please remember:
- Having a business on the internet is like a having a normal
business. You have to put work into it. There is no FREE lunch.
Anyone who tells you its easy and different is an absolute liar!
- Get rich quick programs don't work. Where the hell is all the
money coming from if everyone is earning? Do you know
anyone who is rich from get-rich quick programs?
- Confront yourself. Why are you not succeeding or making
money? Have you really advertised enough? Is your product
really attractive?
Oh, and by the way, in case you're guessing I have
experiences with get-rich quick programs (guaranteed signups,
guaranteed earnings with no recruitment etc..) and I've been
burnt badly many times. So I've been there and done that. I'm

=====================Joke of the Day (1)===============

These are cute - - -

1. Dear God,
Please put another holiday between Christmas and Easter.
There is nothing good in there now.
2. Dear God,
Thank you for the baby brother but what I asked for was a puppy.
I never asked for anything before. You can look it up.
3. Dear Mr. God,
I wish you would not make it so easy for people to come apart.
I had to have 3 stitches and a shot.
4. Dear God,
If we come back as somebody else, please don't let me be
Jennifer Horton - because I hate her.
6. God,
I read the bible. What does begat mean? Nobody will tell me. !
Love, Alison
7. Dear God,
How did you know you were God? Who told you?
8. Dear God,
Is it true my Father won't get in Heaven if he uses his golf
words in the house?
9. Dear God,
I bet it's very hard for you to love all of everybody in the whole
world. There are only 4 people in our family and I can never do it.
10. Dear God,
Did you really mean, Do Unto Others As They Do Unto You?
If you did then, I'm going to get even with my brother.
11. Dear God,
I like the story about Chanukah the best of all of them. You
really made up some good ones. I like walking on water, too.
12. Dear God,
My Grandpa says you were around when he was a little boy.
How far back do you go?
Love, Dennis
13. Dear God,
Do you draw the lines around the countries? If you don't, who does?
14. Dear God,
It's O. K. that you made different religions but don't you get mixed
up sometimes?
15. Dear God,
Did you mean for giraffes to look like that or was it an accident?
16. Dear God,
In bible times, did they really talk that fancy?
17. Dear God,
What does it mean you are a jealous God? I thought you had
everything you wanted.
18. Dear God,
How come you did all those miracles in the old days and don't
do any now?
19. Dear God,
Please send Dennis Clark to a different summer camp this year.
20. Dear God,
Maybe Cain and Abel would not kill each other so much if they
each had their own rooms. It works out OK with me and my brother.
21. Dear God,
I keep waiting for spring, but it never did come yet. What's up?
Don't forget.
22. Dar God,
You don't have to worry about me. I always look both ways before
I cross the street.
23. Dear God,
My brother told me about how you are born but it just doesn't
sound right. What do you say?
24. Dear God,
If you watch in Church on Sunday I will show you my new shoes.
25. Dear God,
Is Reverend Coe a friend of yours, or do you just know him
through the business?
26. Dear God,
In Sunday School they told us what you do for a job. Who does
it when you are on vacation?
27. Dear God,
In school we read that Thomas Edison made light, but in Sunday
School they said you did it first. Did he steal your idea?
Sincerely, Donna
28. Dear God,
I do not think anybody could be a better God than you. Well, I just
want you to know that. I am not just saying that because you are
already God.
29. Dear God,
It is great the way you always get the stars in the right place. Why
can't you do that with the moon?
30. Dear God,
I am doing the best I can. Really.
31. Dear God,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you
made on Tuesday night. That was really cool.
