Re: What Sells Better Online
From: Cathy Wagner

Hi Amalia,
In my experience, right now, I think services are selling better than products of every
kind, whether they're tangible or not.
I think money is tight for most people, so luxury item sales have gone down. I
believe many people are hungry for information as they try to improve their lives,
but even better than an ebook is a seminar, consultation or coaching. My virtual
assistance sales are up right now too as people are ready to branch out but don't
really have the time or inclination to learn every aspect of online business. People
seem to want more than information today, they want help.

Re: What Sells Better Online
(Excerpt from Digest Forum)

From: Mark Wade

Hi Amalia,

Let's try to get something going here...

You asked this question in the last Digest - #415.

"In your experience, what sells better online, services or products? If your answer is
"products", are tangible products more salable or do intangible products (e-books
etc.) sell better? I'm interested in what sells on the Internet NOW, not 3 years ago, so
please take that into consideration in your answers."

Taking into consideration that you said "not 3 years ago" I'll still say that in my
experience online for 7 years the answer no doubt is ADVERTISING! Whether it is
ad submissions, banner ads, advertising space or anything related to advertising is
has got to be ADVERTISING!

What do you think?

Response from: Amalia

Mark, that is the answer I would have given myself a year or so ago. I'm not so sure
any more, however. Of course every single website, no matter what it provides needs
advertising to become known. On the other hand, most advertising methods available
today have been saturated, abused or become ineffective. People buy advertising,
don't have the results they expect and give up. Repeat customers are becoming
scarcer in the field of advertising. What is your experience?

Re: What Sells Better Online
(Excerpt from Digest Forum)

From: Mark Wade

Hi Amalia,

Well, since I'm involved in it every day I think it is still the number one.
I know there are many negatives like you mentioned, but my personal experience
leads me to believe that where one method may have fallen on hard times there is
always another to back it up and renew interest.
We have changed the methods with FAC many times. (We're a franchise in the
Megaresponse network). The membership continues to grow (over 92,000 as of
today) and no matter what method we install there are always purchasers!
In addition, I think that - though it is in the process of changing - PPC advertising is
an enormously effective method and will grow. The search engines are evolving and
more are being added. New engines are being designed around PPC advertising (or
new versions of PPC) and the folks who give up will be replaced by new additions to
the web (in large numbers!).
I'll add more thoughts later - got to pick up some materials for my new kitchen...

Re: How to promote premium rate phone service
From: Cathy Wagner

Hi Stuart,
Have you thought about getting some fun stores to put your flyers in bags with
people's merchandise when they check out or on the counter? A novelty store is the
first thing that comes to mind, but many entertainment spots might be willing to do it
for you. Maybe you could pass them out near a theater or night club as people are
coming or going. Even cars parked outside of some kind of entertain might be more
receptive than those at say a grocery store.

Re: Juiceboosted
From: Mike Watkins

Hello Everyone,

I want to personally address the "Juiceboosted" scenario. I will remain neutral at this
time until October 1st, 2004. Here is why.

I became involved with Juice about 30 days ago. Since then I have managed over
7000 visitors to my affiliate website. The issue is the last 3 weeks they have been
"suspended". I have received over 5500 hits to the site since then. I have NOT been
given even 1 single stat count on who has actually registered. I ask - what kind of
business is that??? I have been informed by "Onspeed" that Juice is a SCAM. Juice
has a website that is VERY similar in content. They are being investigated now.
Onspeed claims that Juice cannot be found in beta testing. That was 2 weeks ago.
Take a look at:

And see for yourself. YOU be the judge and then when the true facts come out and
the smoke clears on the hype. We shall see...

Re: Jaroske Free-Juice Followup
From: Mike Sullivan

William, remarks like this serve no purpose whatsoever.

If is not a scam, why is it listed on Seems Mike
did not make an educated business decision after all.

William Jaroske

First off, you are way off base, so it makes sense now why your web site URL
describes you. You make a remark about not making an educated business decision,
because I didn't look at the WWS MLM comic relief board?

Sorry Mr. Dumb Expert, but if you think everything on this site is true, then you
haven't been around very long.  I won't go into it here, but I can show you why I
have ZERO respect for this site, even though I do use it for a few laughs, I do not use
it for my due diligence as you obviously do.

Anyone who takes everything they read as fact on any site is the one I would
question.  My comments on the Free-Juice promotion were made well before the
banner even appeared on WWS. Now if you look real close on the Free-Juice banner
on WWS, you may have noticed that it was included with several other banners.
Now squint if you have to, but as of the day of this post, 10-18, there was no BOLD
RED SCAM logo over it as there was on all the others.

Now I don't know how you do your due diligence, but having a banner with no
BOLD RED SCAM logo on it would mean to me that it is merely on the watch list
given this is a MLM scam site, right?
Just about every MLM out there is on this site, so who would take it seriously until a
hard fact was introduced, not just a Free-Juice banner.

What I find interesting is that not one person has been able to define the so called
scam, but how all the scambusters love to attack anything that does not compute.  As
I stated in my posts, I am still researching with an open mind, and to date, I still don't
know if it is for real or not, but I certainly won't be so narrow minded to believe what
any anti MLM zealot might post.  If you want to believe all that you read, that is
your problem.

Free-Juice may end up as a hoax, impossible, whatever, but until I have all the
research completed, and it is proven, I will remain neutral on the subject, unlike you
and your proof it is a scam just because you saw a banner on some laughable MLM
hate site.  No, I put a lot more effort into my due diligence than you evidently do.

As I previously stated, we will all have to wait and see what Free-Juice is up to and
whether or not they have all of what they have promoted.  If they do, then great, but I
can see why the industry is out attacking Free-Juice since they will all be out of
business if it is true.  Think about it, if Free-Juice delivers, all DSL, ASDL and
BroadBand industries will be severely impacted.

I still remain skeptic, just as I am with all new businesses, as this is my specialty; I
like to research and analyze online businesses.
Having a technical background, I found statements too good to be true, just like
many, but unlike many, I have an open mind when it comes to new technology.

Looking back on the data transmission industry, I can remember 300 baud phone line
transmission speeds. Over the last 20 years it has progressed to 56K via standard
phone line computer modem, so are we to assume we have hit the wall?  56K has
been the standard for many years, and with all the breakthroughs in processing
speeds, is it so hard to believe data transmission speeds will never change?

There are so many advances going on that you would have to be an idiot to think that
data speeds are never going to increase.  Just look at DSL, ADSL and broadband,
these were unheard of by most five years ago. Now it is becoming main stream, so
never say never when it comes to technology.

As to the comments of how can Free-Juice can be FREE, this is easy if you had any
knowledge of the industry.  How quickly some forget how NetZero got started.
They offered free internet access, sound familiar?  Now they have millions of paying
customers.  Does giving away free service work?
Loss leader promotions have been used for years, so I know it works. I have used
this strategy myself, so I have to wonder how much due diligence you really did
before remarking on mine?

On the same subject of why Free-Juice is FREE, here is another reason.  No matter
what is being offered for free now, it does not mean it will be free for everyone.
They clearly stated this was a short term offer, and I might add, it is a smart strategy
in my opinion.  Loss leader marketing is extremely effective.

Now let's look at paid search engine revenues.
Funny, but Google proved that offering a free search engine to get established was
genius, yet I am sure they had a lot of critics and I know they were not taken
seriously when they began.  Now look who is laughing, it ain't Yahoo, Overture or
Microsoft, that I can assure you. Free-Juice also mentioned that this was another
option forthcoming, so revenues from this alone are worth billions, so what was your
point again about it being impossible to offer for FREE. LOL

If you knew anything about business, then you would not have posted your remarks.
I happen to think that a new higher speed transmission is possible over POT lines,
and I have seen many such claims by prominent researchers in this industry agree, so
yes, it is possible in my opinion to increase speeds significantly, but will Free-Juice
be the one?  Who knows, but I won't be as closed minded as you evidently are based
on your remarks.

Since this saga will be over in a couple weeks, one way or another, I will remain
neutral until I see proof on all the Free-Juice claims. Most here are skeptical, and this
is good, but with nothing to risk while we wait, I see no harm in registering and
waiting to see if it is for real, but like most, we will have to be patient.

I could care less either way as I certainly don't need another business, but I am
always interested in new technologies that can help my online businesses operate
more efficiently.  The saga continues for some of us here, for William, it is already
over for he has seen a banner on the WWS comedy club site. Dumb Expert, where
did you get this name from? LOL  Do your due diligence, take a closer look at

Peace, Mike

Re: Pay- Per-Click Tricks
From: Tom Falco

Some tricks to keep the costs down with pay-per-click search engines is to use
misspelled words.

Yes, you read right.

For instance, we sell stationery, but more people spell stationary (with an "a") and
this draws more business.
Since most pay-per-click users won't misspell the word, yet the buyers DO misspell
the word, you are receiving all those potential buyers.

Same goes for "calenders" rather than the correct spelling:
"calendars." And those foam can koozies can be spelled "coozies".

Many words are spelled wrong by accident, when typing fast, how many times have
you typed "teh" for "the"? So keep this in mind when using the pay-per-click search
terms. If you sell wedding items, try listing them as "weding" and "pet sitting" can be
listed as one word: "petsitting."

Experiment with this and see the results. But also, keep in mind; you still want to list
your site or items with the correct listings as well as the misspelled ones.

Promote your business on Calendars:

----------------------------GUEST ARTICLE --------------------------

3 Steps To Effectively Increase Your Marketing Response
(c) Copyright by Eva Browne-Paterson

It's well known that internet marketers are in the business of marketing. To become
successful in business, it's crucial to actively promote your business to gain new
customers. Let's face it... No promotion, no new customers. It's as simple as that.

If you've ever spent money on advertising before, you will know that it can be a
costly process. Whether the cost is measured in time, effort, money or a mixture of
all three - the one thing that counts the most is the results. A lack of results from a
marketing campaign can be a real disappointment.

More often than not, it is a case of hit-and-miss which leads to frustration and a
wasted advertising budget.

This article will explain three steps that you can take to gauge how effective your
marketing campaigns are and to rapidly improve the response rates of future
campaigns. It also brings to light some relatively unknown tactics that some
advertising companies are employing to rip-off their customers. I hope you're not one
of those customers... But you might have been already without even realizing it.

Step 1: T&T

You may or may not work out a proper campaign for your promotions, but let me
make a suggestion to you if I may? You really should be Tracking and Testing.
If you don't know how responsive a particular ad is, how can you possibly gauge the
ad's effectiveness? Not by guessing, that's for sure! It is essential that you T&T
because this keeps you in control of your earnings.

If your campaigns aren't creating the desired outcome - signups, sales, opt-ins etc.,
something needs to be changed. By T&T, you can make changes, retest and gauge
the results to repeat the process until you do generate the necessary effect and
therefore increase your profits.

Step 2: Tweaking

What areas need looking at? Here is a short list of questions you can ask yourself.
The answer to these questions should be "Yes". If the answer is "No", then simply
tweak the item and T&T to produce a better response.

Ad Copy:
Does it have an eye-catching headline? Is it well written with the correct grammar
and punctuation? Have you edited it over and over to create what you'd consider a
perfect advertisement? Does it use hypnotic words and phrases that grab the interest
of the reader? Does it make the reader want to click through to your web site while
pulling out their credit card? If you wouldn?t respond to the ad yourself, a rewrite is
a must.

Product Demand:
If you truly aim to make sales, your advertising needs to be put in front of the people
who will want to purchase your product. Have you carried out or have access to
market research data on the product you are offering? If it's a niche-target product,
are you targeting the appropriate audience? Have you polled your list or web site
visitors to find out what they really want?
Feedback is precious and should be taken into serious consideration.

Sales Page:
Does your sales page load quickly? Does it look good to the naked eye without
making you frown or close the site in pain? Does it have an eye-catching headline?
Does it appeal to the reader's sensibilities and rouse their emotions?
Have you used short paragraphs? Have you included bullet point lists? Have you
refined the copy over and over again to make it as sharp as possible? Have you made
it so there are no unanswered questions for the customer to ask?

Order Page:
Have you included a guarantee that removes the risk taken by the customer?
Have you provided several payment options where applicable? Have you made the
purchasing process as quick and simple as possible? Have you included your contact

If everything else appears to be set correctly but you're still not receiving the
response you need, consider revising the price and T&T. Use a split tester if possible
to see which price receives the better response (and it's not always the cheaper price
surprisingly). 100 is a good number to use for split- testing. ie: If you're testing two
pages, the first to receive 100 responses is the one to adopt.

Step 3: QA

Usually QA stands for Quality Assurance and it still does, but in this instance, it also
means Quality Advertising. T&T and Tweaking can be an ongoing process that you
continually carry out using free or paid advertising.

There are many forms of advertising available on the internet. Free advertising
methods are excellent for T&T because they can illustrate how well an ad pulls
through an ezine or solo ad. You can also gauge how effective your sales page is by
click-thru statistics in traffic exchanges etc. But for now, let's concentrate on the
effective, paid advertising methods. Why? Because paid advertising brings results...
Well it should -- but it doesn't always!

It is imperative that you gauge the effectiveness of the advertising vehicle that you
are utilising through T&T. If you don't, you could be throwing your hard-earned
dollars straight down the drain.

If you have paid for an advertising campaign through a company and the results are
less than you hoped for, you need to look into why the results were dismal.
How do you do that? It certainly pays to ask questions and dig deeper to see exactly
how your advertisement is being delivered.

In fact, I can save you some time and really open your eyes to some marketing
methods that you probably didn't even know existed! These are methods that are
being used quite frequently by some online companies who provide traffic and
advertising services.

You really need to know about them now so you don't fall into that trap. Most of us
have already and didn't even know it, until now...

Paying for Advertising".

If you utilize the 3 steps I've described above, you'll discover that your hard work
really does pay off. Increased profits can indeed be yours with the right work ethic
and the right quality advertising vehicle.

The Procrastinator's creed

1. I believe that if anything is worth doing, it would have been done already.

2. I shall never move quickly, except to avoid more work or find excuses.

3. I will never rush into a job without a lifetime of consideration.

4. I shall meet all of my deadlines directly in proportion to the amount of bodily
injury I could expect to receive from missing them.

5. I firmly believe that tomorrow holds the possibility for new technologies,
astounding discoveries, and a reprieve from my obligations.

6. I truly believe that all deadlines are unreasonable regardless of the amount of time

7. I shall never forget that the probability of a miracle, though infinitesimally small,
is not exactly zero.

8. If at first I don't succeed, there is always next year.

9. I shall always decide not to decide, unless of course I decide to change my mind.

10. I shall always begin, start, initiate, take the first step, and/or write the first word,
when I get around to it.

11. I obey the law of inverse excuses which demands that the greater the task to be
done, the more insignificant the work that must be done prior to beginning the
greater task.

12. I know that the work cycle is not plan-start-finish, but is wait-plan-plan.

13. I will never put off until tomorrow, what I can forget about forever.

14. I will become a member of the ancient Order of Two-Headed Turtles (the
