=============NEW Tidbit==========================

Can you “smell” a scam?
==================

Well, that last tidbit was fun! Now, how can I top that?? Hmmm…

O.K., let’s try this one:

I was almost taken in by a scam this week. The website was written absolutely
beautifully and tempted even an old hand like me to proceed with a small payment
just to see what the final offer was. What the “products worth $X00” were, was a
package of scripts that you could find anywhere offered for free. I was then advised
to make a second payment to get more of what I suppose were the same and see the
opportunity offered.
I angrily wrote to the owner that he was running a scam and that it was illegal to
offer free scripts not owned by him for a price.
He refunded my money (which was an OK gesture) and said that he was not running
a scam and had a group of people making money from his offer, to which I again
responded with an educational letter as to what constitutes a scam.

I got out of that one unscathed, but I wonder:

In the chaos that is the Internet, how can you tell if an offer is legitimate or not? This
person was preying on newbies that had no idea of how the net works with a very
provoking sales letter and no substance behind it.

Have you ever been “caught” in a scam or can you “smell” them from a mile away?

Re: Humor gives life
From: Patrick Christensen

Humor is high on my list of must haves. It is not emotionally cheap to get, but it does
last a lifetime.
I have to wonder about anyone who can't tell any kind of a joke, or laugh at the
simple tings of life. Warning! You are taking life too seriously! Lighten up!
Humor is a great ice breaker and can help your listener to refocus if used properly.

Re: Sense of Humor
From: Shelly Hargis

Hello, I am like you when you refer to not remembering a joke. My Dad is a
Walking Jokebook who knows a Billion of them and as soon as he tells me one, I
laugh and then...Gone Forever until I hear it again. It is Funny (excuse the Pun) that
you bring this subject up after I had Posted a Private Forum Just for my Adland
Friends Last Night. I wanted to reconnect with the ones that I may have neglected in
the last couple of weeks and Felt that was Important. I told Everyone that we should
Always try to keep in touch with each other and I ended the Message with this little
Statement that someone else had Posted the other day. (somewhere else).
I thought it was Cute:

LIFE BEFORE THE COMPUTER

Memory was something you lost with age

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity

A keyboard was a piano
A web was a spider's home
A virus was the flu
A CD was a bank account

A hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived

And if you had a 3 inch floppy .

... you just hoped nobody ever found out!

Thanks and Always Have a Sense of Humor. To make someone Smile or Laugh is a
Power of Humanity!

Sincerely,

Re: Am I Someone You Would want to Associate with?
From: Kimberly Gordon

Yes, Absolutely! Why?

Because I, like you, always try to see the best in every situation.

I like to look at the glass half full with room for more instead of half empty because
it's about gone :-)

I also like to try to see the good in everyone instead of just the bad. Sometimes their
good out-weighs their bad.

Last, but not least... Positive energy generates positive things in our lives. Negative
energy generates negative things. It is far better to be an Optimist and happy, than a
pessimist who is truly miserable at heart.

Re: Post- Do You Like People?
From: Merle

Great question! I've done customer service for almost 5 years for a major insurance
company via the telephone. Let me tell you there are days I feel like humankind has
taken a real downward turn. Many people are rude and nasty, they scream and yell
and I've been called a multitude of bad names.

The funny thing is all of this exposure to people has taught me a few lessons. Always
use a person's name when speaking to them and always be kind. They are not the
company, they just work for the company. Whenever I call a business with a
problem I know that by being "nice" I'll get further then if I throw a temper tantrum.
I know this because I'm much more likely to go out of my way for a civil person then
one who is trying to make my life miserable.

Life is short. Don't be negative..... it won't get you very far and what you put out
always comes back to you one way or the other.

Who REALLY Postulated The 1# Rated Business Model for Internet Marketing?
From: Judy hortin

Isn't it a bit fatuous for people to make those claims, when the Internet is only about
ten years old? "Fanny Hillman" made the best postulation for business on the
Internet that I have heard, in her cartoon book "Memoirs of a Jewish Madam."

Fanny leans over the balcony of her expensive ranch house, watching her assets at
play and exclaims. "This is Business. You have got it. You sell it. You have still got
it!" I doubt if anybody can go wrong if they follow Fanny's business strategy.
Electronically delivered products that you can use, enjoy and sell over and over
again are sure-fire winners in this digital age. I have over 70 digital products and
over 100 e-books from one source, which I can present from completely different
perspectives on one page in my website. I use Fanny's business model to show that
anybody with a spark of common sense could do the same.

I was unable to use that simple strategy to promote the Adlandpro opportunity, so I
had to use a few more brain cells before something became obvious. I presented
Adlandpro on five pages of my main website from a slightly different perspective but
there was one angle that showed Adlandpro in its best light.

What makes Adlandpro one of the best bets on the Internet today is the corporate
image! It is one of the few successful on line business that has a democratic
management style. Businesses with an autocratic management style nearly always
streak ahead of the competition in the short term but after five years or more, a
democratic management style pays dividends and it overtakes the ones with the
autocratic management style. If any of you have done any psychometric testing or
been tested with Belbin's Team Roles, you will be familiar with his research on this
subject. Democratically managed businesses are likely to streak ahead of the
opposition in the next ten years.

Some of the programmes that claim to be democratic in their management style are
not. They are paternalistic. These programmes got the majority of new recruits in the
early years. Plenty of beginners were drawn by the image of Big Daddy and they felt
secure in an organisation, where they had Big Daddy's encircling arms to protect
them. Do many these recruits develop or do they remain obsequious Big Daddy
fans? The Internet is a jungle. Young bucks should be biting Big Daddy's heels and
challenging him! If Big Daddy become a pontiff instead of a warrior, his power and
influence will wane! Some programme owners have a circle of elders to manage
their new recruits This is oligarchy. Can anybody envisage an oligarchy lasting for
more than a year or two on the Internet?

My advice to my website visitors is get out of programmes that do not have a
democratic corporate image. Can anybody suggest any other programmes that look
genuinely democratic in their management style? I have just joined ScrubTheWeb.
It is early days but it looks as though this programme has all the right ingredients for
survival over the next ten years. http://www.scrubtheweb.com/id/qAmXtCjePq/

Not All Questions Answered
From: Kim Snyder

I have been so busy trying to get my site just right I haven't been posting, but I have
a question. I was talking with another site owner and she said that I didn't have
enough keywords in my meta_tags now what I need to know is: Is there a limit of
keywords that are used in meta_tags and are FFA pages really all that bad? I am
trying to understand that one, I hear they are bad and yet someone else says that are
good. What is your take on FFA sites? If your ad is submitted daily is it possible to
still get business from them?

How’s that for questions not all answered? LOL

====================GUEST ARTICLE =====================

The Big Bang Publicity Campaign, by David Bell
====================================

Famous is as famous does and the famous get known through publicity. Yes, that's
right, fame doesn't discover you, you create it through strategic campaigning. What's
more, the techniques for increasing your exposure isn't as difficult to attain as you
might think. A great publicity campaign starts with courage, then planning, and
lastly, it succeeds through persistence. If you’re not sure why you should seek fame,
consider fortune because the two go hand in hand.

Fame will bring your business into the forefront of your target audience faster than
any advertising campaign can hope to do. It solidifies you as an expert and creates a
deep, abiding confidence in the consumer. It makes you a shining star with infinite
possibilities. So what are the steps you ask? Well paste a gold star to your forehead
and let's get started.

1. Press Releases: Increase awareness through a press release. Yes, I know, press
releases have become quite the popular little tool around cyberspace with releases
being blasted hither and there, but is it working? Probably not. Blasting your press
release will bring blasted little results. Instead, thoughtfully put together a very
dynamic one page press release and target publications that would be most interested
in you and your business. Don't drone out the details; make that press release sing
your praises. Then send it to a real live editor and follow up with a phone call. In
other words, let the press release be the invitation to your follow up phone call.
Begin making connections with the media. Be polite, be excited, and be patient.

2. Create A Press Kit: A Press kit is basically an exaggerated press release turned
into a package. It's more complex, tells more about you and your company, and is all
pulled together into a nice neat folder. Of all the questions I receive, first is, what is a
press kit? Simply, it is a folder of information about you or your business. It should
contain:

• An Introduction Letter
• One or Two Press Releases
• A Fact Sheet (This contains the facts about you or your business.)
• Bio Sheet (Which is a biography of you and your accomplishments.)
• Copies of Published Articles
• Company Literature
• A Business Card
• Send your press kit when an editor, publisher, or producer wants to know
more about you.

3. Newsletters Offline. Don't forget that a whole world exists offline. Locate
newsletters or smaller print publications offline and submit articles. This can be a
very dynamic way to increase your exposure as well as add to your press kit. You
can locate newsletters in your subject area by visiting the local university library
reference section. Ask for a directory of trade newsletters and do your research. Once
you have been published, it's easier to step up to the larger publications. Fame starts
small and then snowballs onto itself.

4. Speak Up! Yep, that's right. Start giving speeches on your area of expertise. Start
locally at civic clubs and local educational programs. Then find the local talk radio
shows and make your case to the producer. It's surprising how many talk radio shows
are actively looking for new speakers. Once you have achieved Talk Radio, the
opportunities will start coming to you.

5. Publicity Pitches: Put together several dynamic article ideas. Just the ideas, not the
actual article. This is called a Publicity Pitch. Take those ideas and then pitch them to
editors of targeted publications. This can work very well as it saves Editors time and
puts the outline right into their hands. As a past Editor I know how well this works.
Editor's love ideas, especially ideas that are completely outlined and correct for their
readership. This means don't send pet article ideas to cooking magazines. Send pet
articles ideas to pet publications. Seems like a no brainer, huh? But you'd be amazed
at what editors see that don't apply to their own publication.

Fame comes from planning and persistence. It has its rejections, but if you can learn
not to take it personally, it will eventually work. Remember, once you start, keep
going. Once you stop, you have to start all over.

I hope this helps in your future marketing decisions.

================JOKE OF THE DAY==================

Lion tamer
========

A man told the ringmaster that he was interested in joining the circus as a lion tamer.
The ringmaster asked if he had any experience and the man said, "Why, yes. My
father was one of the most famous lion tamers in the world, and he taught me
everything he knew."

"Really?" said the ringmaster. "Did he teach you how to make a lion jump through a
flaming hoop?"

"Yes he did," the man replied.

"And did he teach you how to have six lions form a pyramid?"

"Yes he did," the man replied.

"And have you ever stuck your head in a lion's mouth?"

"Just once," the man replied.

The ringmaster asked, "Why only once?"

And the man said, "I was looking for my father."
