To M’L’M or not to M’L’M?
========================

Sorry about the weird spelling – apparently the acronym is considered s`pam by most
filters!!

M’L’M has become a “swear word” for many people that tried to work online… and
failed. As a matter of fact, the phrase “This is NOT M’L’M!” figured prominently on
a website I recently saw… as if this phrase alone PROVED that it was a good
program! It bothered me to see such a flagrant denial of a marketing system that, in
theory at least, levels the playing field and makes it possible for even the smallest
one-person, one-computer enterprise to gain leverage and grow.
You might prefer a straight-affiliate payment scheme. That will work too – for a
time. Until you can no longer work or you are no longer willing to sell yourself.
People’s main objection to M’L’M is the attrition rate on the lower levels. However,
if you have trained your downline properly to duplicate what you did and to become
leaders themselves, you will probably experience the lovely surprise of your
organization growing without you.

At any rate, those are my feelings. What do YOU believe? Is M’L’M still a viable
marketing system or is it obsolete?

Re: Are you overwhelmed by email?
From: Geoff Dodd

Am I? YES.

Partly because I've used the same address since 1997 and naively put it out there, on
web sites, in opt-ins, and joined FAR too many online services and businesses and
subscribed to an infinite number of News Letters.. all for 'learning' value!

For only ONCE checking a box to say you're interested in 'business opportunities' -
Hey, they'll rent, sell, loan, resell your poor old email until every marketer on 5
continents is Blasting your inbox... daily.

With 94% sp^m. Hundreds per day.

There are solutions. The software program Mailwasher Pro is excellent. Now at its
new home, www.firetrust.com (www.mailwasher.net)

I use it on my notebook computer and agree with:

"MailWasher makes it easy to distinguish between good email and bad email, simply
by using colours (which you can personalize to suit) and giving you the status of
each message."

"Since you can read all your email on the server before it gets to your computer,
you'll be better informed about your messages."

True, but Dr Ken Evoy has come up with a web-based solution that prevents you
from even having to SEE any sign of sp^m or viruses… SVBlast-It!
It features tight control of 'Whitelisting...' and sees life as black/white.

Early testing shows me this is The Way.

Re: Mail boxes and s’pam
From: Joan Smith

It is very tiring to open my email (I have 5 to 6 accounts) and have to spend 1/2 to 1
hour wading thru all the junk. If there is not an opt out on the email that works I
report it as spam. I don't hesitate... S’PAM!! and gone. When I can opt out I do. It is
ironic that some opt outs say it will take up to 30 days to opt me out. That really
makes my blood boil.

Re: What to tell a newbie!
From: Russ Wilson/Webintel

The web will over whelm a newbie...

There is so much information available, that it's easy to get overloaded.

If you are looking for a business opportunity:

1. Seek something that you already have an interest in.

2. Seek something you may already have some skills with.

3. Do not keep your wallet, or purse next to you; if you must go get it, it will give
you time to think about rather or not you really want the item.

4. Investigate thoroughly.

5. Relax, if the offer is genuine, it'll be here tomorrow, and that will give you the
time to investigate it, and arrive at a calm decision.

6. Choose carefully: ensure that the opportunity you choose contains multiple
opportunities for you to generate income within the one main opportunity.

Most importantly:

Do not get involved in every opportunity that you come across. Think of how much
time you really have to work a web business, and how much time it will take to do it
properly to success. If you involve yourself in one or two prime opportunities, and
2-3 support systems for those opportunities, you'll find yourself as busy as you care
to be.

Working a web business; should be fun as well as work, so don't overload yourself.

Re: what to tell a newbie
From: S. Moore

Don't buy everything out there that is offered because 99% of it is all junk or freebie
stuff you can get if you look around a bit. Don't fall for the over night get rich hype
that so many websites tell you about. Set yourself a limit as to how much you want
to invest and stick with it... stop throwing good money after bad. Remember these
people are out to make themselves money 1st not you. If the deal sounds too good to
be true....it probably is TOO GOOD to be TRUE. Use common sense not wishful
thinking. And last but not least... don't make hasty decisions... investigate first... if
the deal is that good it will be there tomorrow or the next day.

Good luck.

Re: What Would You Tell a Newbie?
From: Rebecca Beasley

Well, since I have the newbie forum here at Adland Pro I would tell them to go to
http://community.adlandpro.com/forumShow.aspx?ForumID=839 and read all the
posts first, and then post their questions.

A lot of people including newbies have posted some really helpful information in
this forum.

I would also advise them to take it slow and don't be in a rush to sign up for anything
until they fully understand what's required of them and know they can do it.

And the main thing I would tell them to do is learn how to write a good story, not an
ad, but a story about themselves, and start working to build relationships first and
foremost. Then once they're comfortable with writing, I would help them to set up a
newsletter, an autoresponder and a lead capture page.

But really, you never know whether a newbie is going to be interested in business
unless they tell you they are. Just because they're newbies doesn't mean they're fair
game for business opportunities, and I abhor people who jump on them and start
blasting one bogus thing after another at them just to pad their own wallets. I stick up
for newbies. I remember what it was like and I don't want to be the one who confuses
them and puts them on the wrong track.

So I guess I would say, do what you're comfortable with and learn how to use email
effectively first. Learn to use blind carbon copy instead of forwarding all your
friend's names, and learn to copy and paste, then if they want to be in business,
they'll have a few skills to start with.

Re: What I'd like to see in the digest
From: Russ Wilson/Webintel

I would like to see more information on automating your tasks on the web.

If you run a successful business on the web, time is a valuable commodity, and
everything from checking email, to placing ads takes up time.

Even surfing for hits takes time, and I have heard references to automating this task,
but not how to do it.

Time saving automation is a topic that needs covering.

Re: Comments on the Digest
From: Janice McAlister

I think the Digest is wonderful.

You might want to include more articles on subjects which are of great concerns to
Internet marketers. This current issue has an article on getting your email messages
through.

You might want to conduct a survey. Offer an incentive, such as a free download of
a good and useful software or information to find out exactly what kinds are
problems people are having with their marketing efforts.

I personally am having a hard time locating an inexpensive autoresponder which will
get my messages delivered. I'm sure I'm not alone.

More solid information on anything new and which is working well would be
appreciated. Oh, and don't charge for this information either.
What you do, is offer quality free information and people will be more willing to
purchase anything you offer for sale because the assumption would be that it most be
quality, because your free information is quality too.

Keep up the great work!

Many programs even have f’ree autoresponders included in their websites. (I know I

Re: General Commentary on Edition
From: Marion Stearns

Hi Amalia,

First and foremost, your description of where you live was great... thank you!
I agree with you that ezines and digests aren't dead. Not so long ago, many people
thought Habeas and re-verification would be the end of email. My last poll "check"
showed email still being a front-runner. HTML can't beat it. Blogs don't beat it so
far. Blogs may be fun but I think they seem better suited for in-house, corporate
communication.

Ezines and digests teach. I learned a lot from both of them. The curious mind needs
an education so I do feel optimistic regarding educational publications, that benefit
serious business people.

It surely does take guts to survive this place but with just about 7 years of experience
under my belt, operating and managing a lot of ezines, we're seeing growth and
making enough money to expand divisions. We help everyone, not just ezine
publishers.

My personal opinion about how all this email mess got out of hand was the way that
so many people expected a free ride. Too few people on the net truly have the respect
for email marketing as a career choice.
Seven years ago, I saw that as a real problem and I've done all I can do, to change the
free-for-all, mentality. It's like riding a wave never really knowing what to expect.
Those who survive the hardships have to be truly exceptional people. This isn't a
business for wimps. It is a business for those who really care about helping other
people. When mutual success is the common goal instead of greed, jealousy and
power struggles.... everyone can win!

Re: Search Results and P^or^n
From: Milton Southerland

Occasionally I put my name in a search with quotes around it to see what pops up i.e.
programs I am working. Recently, two p^or^n sites showed up in one of these
searches. I notified Google who asked for a screen shot of the page. I sent it and they
were very nice about it and took the two sites off the search. They also told me to let
them know if I was ever dissatisfied with a search result in the future. Now, that is
getting it done.
Note: to do a screen shot
1) go to the page, not the p^or^n site but the search result page
2) hit the Print Screen button top right on keyboard (nothing will show on your
screen)
3) go to your word processor and open a blank document (new)
4) right click on your mouse and paste
You now have a screen shot of the problem which you can forward to the search
engine folks.
Hope that helps a little for someone.

Re: In response to the misspelling of God
From: Leon Horton

It is my intention here to agree with the author in her writings about spirit, believing,
and creation. However, I find it offensive to see the name of God written in such a
fashion.

Those of us who actually believe in a higher power are actually the majority! We are
being led around by the nose by a few dissenters who are the minority. The fact that
the author chose to be "politically correct" was her choice. I believe that if we are to
profess our faith in whomever we believe that we should do so with pride and
without fear of reparation.

The Christians of biblical times were under a great deal of pressure to get the word
out. They did it bravely and took a lot of heat for it.
We are still being persecuted today by the minority of atheists.

God is God... no matter which one you worship. I think we should stand up and be
counted rather than roll over to a few who are speaking out.

Just my 2 cents worth!

Peace,
Leon Horton

Re: Suggestion.
From: James Kinney

Amalia,

So many members are having problems with learning how to do things in their AP.

This is probably due to their lack of knowledge and not knowing where to look for
instructions.

Do you think it might be helpful to place some of the instructions in the Digest?

You may want to let people know that when they place their ads (In Forums) that
they are limiting their marketing capabilities to the few members they have in their
Friends List.

I have seen where some members have only 2-3 people and they create a Forum to
invite Friends to view their (advertisement), expecting great results.

I have started to let them know that they are not marketing to their full exposure, and
recommending that they place ads in the Paid Ad section.

This way they will increase their exposure to 1000's and not to a few.

There are many ways for new people to find their way around the AdlandPro

some practical instructions on “how to do” various tasks. Now, I can help a bit, but I
don’t consider myself an expert. In this section, therefore, sometimes you will find

Following is today’s helpful article:

10 Highly Effective Ways to Increase website Traffic and Promote your Website for
Free. by Chileshe Mwape
============================================================

There are many ways to promote your website for free online. Here are 10 highly
effective strategies you can use right now.

1. Write articles or free reports for other webmasters to publish and put your website
address in the by-line. If you write good content, your articles will be published and
many readers who like your article will go on to visit your website.

2. Arrange a Joint Venture partnership with List owners and Webmasters.

3. Add your ad or website address to your email signature. This way, every time you
send an email, you'll be promoting your website.

4. Exchange Links with Other Webmasters. This is another effective strategy for
generating targeted traffic to your website for free. It involves contacting other
webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership.

5. Add a blog to your site and Ping weblogs.com and other search engines. Pinging
your blogs to the search engines is the fastest way to get the search engine robots to
visit your blog and attract new visitors to your web site.

6. Submit your blog address to blog search sites and directories. You can submit
your blog's URL to websites such as Technorati, Daypop, Blogdex and Popdex. For
a complete list of websites where you can submit your URL, go to
http://www.guidetorss.com/

7. Create RSS feeds for your site and submit the feed URLs to the major RSS feed
directories online. A good place to start is
http://www.guidetorss.com/ which provides a list of the top RSS directories.

8. Be an active commenter. Try to leave comments on the blogs that you regularly
visit. Most comment systems also provide a way for you to leave a link back to your
blog or website which begs a visit at the very least.

9. If you plan to have anything printed up, put your web address on it. You can print
your URL on business cards, stickers, leaflets, etc.

10. Add your web address to your forum profile signature. Every time you post or
respond to questions your ad will be displayed. If you post good content in forums,
people who read your threads will also check out your website.

Understanding the power of viral marketing online , by Chris K.
==============================================

The story of how Hotmail moved from zero to a couple of million subscribers in a
few months is one that is often told in many sites all over the net. However it is a
story that many do not quite understand. If they understood it, we would be seeing
many more online success stories and fewer online failures. Because the word has
also been over-used by hype peddlers, many times people associate the word viral
with spamming and other online activities bordering on the illegal.

Viral growth and marketing has always been with us

They fail to realize that viral growth and marketing is not something new to the
human race. In fact it has been there since the beginning of time. The human race
began with two people, Adam and Eve. Today the human race has filled virtually
every corner of this huge planet. Many religions of the world started with a single
person but were quickly “virally marketed” to reach millions.

Even the now World Wide Web started off as a few computers, mainly used by
researchers, linked together. But as they continuously enjoyed their experience and
as new software and technology was made available for more people to join this
small “web of linked computers” it suddenly started growing. The growth within a
very short time has been explosive and it has all been viral. So let us be clear that
viral marketing was not invented or created by the net, the net in fact used it to grow
to what it is today.

Viral marketing will only work with something useful

As many MLM and network marketing people have discovered, viral marketing will
not work with products that people do not find useful. Some marketing experts have
always turned to viral marketing in the form of MLM or network marketing to push
and clear stocks of a product that has totally failed in the market. Where they think
they have succeeded, they have only ruined their credibility and that of their
businesses as folks have ended up with massive stocks of some useless item stored in
their garage because they believed somebody who told them they would make a lot
of money. This is the chief reason why Multi-level Marketing (which is pure viral
marketing) has such a bad name with many people.

The internet is a natural for viral marketing

The reason why Hotmail was so successful so quickly is because the net actually
multiplies and speeds up the viral effect. In real life you may forget the name of the
movie you liked so much when you are telling a friend about it, or the name of the
book you read last year.

On the internet, forwarding an interesting article usually involves a few quick clicks
and even if you forget the title of the book, a quick visit to your favorite search
engine armed with the few keywords or just the name of the author will yield the
book for you complete with the current online specially offer price for it.

If you want to succeed online you can’t avoid thinking viral

Anybody who wants explosive growth and success in any online endeavour cannot
avoid thinking “virally” in all their marketing plans. Failing to use this powerful
marketing method, that has been successfully used since the beginning of time, will
be a very unfortunate thing indeed.

================JOKE OF THE DAY==================

Re: Joke of the Day
From: Doug Lindahl

Billy Bob and Rufus worked together in a Georgia clothing factory and both were laid off.
So, they went to the unemployment office to sign up for unemployment pay.

When asked his occupation, Billy Bob said, "Panty stitcher.....I sew elastic into ladies
cotton panties." The clerk looked up panty stitcher in her rate book, saw that it was listed as
unskilled labor, and put him down for $300 a week unemployment pay.

She then asked Rufus his occupation and he said, "Diesel fitter" which was listed as skilled
labor. She put Rufus down for $600 a week.

When Billy Bob found out, he was furious. He stormed back into the office demanding to
know why his co-worker got twice the money he did.

The clerk explained that panty stitcher was considered an unskilled job but diesel fitter was
skilled labor.

"What skill?" cried Billy Bob. "I sew the elastic into the panties and Rufus puts 'em on and
says, 'Diesel fitter!!'"
