Well, Bogdan's back and this will be my last issue as your humble
temporary moderator. It was a pleasure to again moderate this digest.
This list has grown greatly and all of you as members have a great
opportunity to participate in a very excellent digest. It will provide
you a medium to build community and when you utilize it correctly you
will reap great rewards. To reap greatly one needs a very well
structured signature line. There are many of you who are joining and
may be just coming on the internet as well and don't know all the
ins-and-outs of appropriating this list. Since this list is structured
around helping the novice, the newbbie as well as the intermediate
webber, it is your privilege to jump in and ask any and all questions.
There will be someone else who can help you. There are about 3000 of
you now and that is a lot of help. You can check the archives as well
for past issues on topics where you might need help. Until next time,
good selling for 1999. Dave

Happy New Year everybody.
I'm back and eager to tackle new challenges in 1999 after three week
of vacations.
For the last month digest wasn't as regular as I wished, but
some of you know that I was on holiday and my
replacement David had some technical troubles with his computer.
Digest grows with 1000 new subscribers per month, so at the end
of 1999 it should have at least 15,000 subscribers and I think it will have
around 30,000. This is impressive number and gives lots of potential
for good discussion.
Just to restate to new users who subscribed recently, this discussion group
focuses on web marketing and promotion for low or no budget sites.
You can ask here basic questions regarding your new business on the internet
or send some good ideas or feedback to those who ask.
Send all your messages to adland@softfornet.com
Almost each digest contains featured article with free helpful hints
intended for new and intermediate Internet users.
In next digest you will learn how to get 100-200 hits from a
free Yahoo Classified AD over & over again!
I would like to also mention that Adland Affiliate program was revied at
AssociatePrograms.com. To see review go here

Hi,
I've just created a new poetry site and would like some feedback on
the site and, of course, the poetry. The website url is
http://www.angelfire.com/va/clairescorner
and Papo's Poetry can also
be reached through my main site http://www.clairesadv.com.
Thanks in
advance for your comments.
Sincerely,
Lewis & Claire Jackson

(Moderator's Note: Lewis, you sent two requests for review. One was
for the listing above, the other sounded like a site but not the same.
The minor problem is that you did not list the site for review. If
they were merely a duplication, then we have you covered above. If
not, then resubmit the other site. Thanks.)

To the ADLAND audience,
I would like a review of my site The Meeting-Place
http://meeting-place.8m.com
The site is a index of singles dating services available on the
internet that I have searched out and decided that they would be worth
the effort of someone who is trying to meet that special person to go
and visit. I met my current girlfriend on-line and we hope to be
married in early 2000. I looked in many dating services, but found
that they were not up to par for what they offered and what I was
looking for, thus the inspiration for the site. Some of the sites are
affiliate programs, but that is not the deciding factor of getting
listed, you will see that when you hit the review pages. Reviews are
slow going, I am walking a tightrope in accurate reporting of
features, as well as waiting on return e-mails for answers to
questions that are not always readily available on the site in
question. All gifs are created myself, except for the banner ads, and
I have kept things small to keep download times fast. Please be
brutally fair. Thanks, Rob L. e-mail to attitude@cheerful.com

Subject: Consider Partnerships for a
Better Community (PBC)
Consider the following:
A site on the internet that permits daily no-cost
charitable contributions to any nonprofit of a person's
choosing anywhere in the world simply by clicking 5
times on advertisers' sites. The site also permits
shopping at its Store, with part of the profits earned
being returned to that same charity of your choosing.
At year's end, you might have accumulated $50 to
several hundreds or even thousands of dollars of
support for your organization, and you may be joined by
many others who choose to support the nonprofit, as you
are doing, in this fashion.
Now make this internet site a cornerstone of a program
that permits nonprofit organizations to become
distributors in strong, established, debt-free
companies that offer no-entry-fee positions yet pay
commissions and residual income to the nonprofits (and
even with no minimum monthly requirements in some
cases).
Any person entering one of these businesses within a
nonprofit distributorship's network also automatically
benefits that nonprofit distributor simply by
conducting ordinary business.
So now we have nonprofit organizations benefitting in
multiple ways from ordinary business activity on the
internet without anyone spending a dime more than they
would do in the usual course of their business
activities.
These concepts have been used to create a proposed
program on the internet that can benefit anyone who
wishes to participate as well as the nonprofits
involved. "Automatic Technogiving" thus becomes a
significant force that can lead to an "internet social
revolution" that eventually matches the legacies of
Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. Nonprofits worldwide
can benefit.
These ideas were put together in a proposed program
called, "Partnerships
for a Better Community: Creating an Internet Social
Revolution -- Prescreened
Businesses for Success on the Internet with Automatic
Charitable Technogiving."
Please see
http://www.321website.com/members/home/data/nfcmktg
I am looking for people who will review this proposal
and perhaps provide feedback, ideas, brainstorming and
partner to make it available on a broad scale across
the globe.
Thank you for your consideration.

Just a thought. Can authors keep their URL`s and email addresses to
one line; I have found that if Outlook express has to word wrap a url
/ email address, the automatic click through won`t work. Maybe that`s
why people are not getting the click through rate expected.
Can I also suggest people adopt re-direction servers such as
http://www.bigfoot.com This isn`t a deceitful move,
but a safeguard.
If you change your ISP, all your classified ads / banners / links will
refer to the wrong site. By using an indirect server, all you have to
do is change one line, and all posts are re-directed to where ever you
decide to set up shop again!

Subject: Search Engines Postings
Hi to all my fellow Adland subscribers. I've been reading the digest
religiously since I first signed up in early 1998. In case some of
you out there haven't realized it yet, there is a wealth of
information in each digest that is helpful to the Internet
entrepreneur.
My business has benefited from the information I have received in the
digest. My company, NetQuest911 Hosting http://www.netquest911.net/
has seen increased traffic and sales in recent months as I've begun
using what I've learned. Mostly, I have learned to take the time to
study the search engines so that I could place my site within the
first few pages of key word searches. Which brings me to my 'words of
wisdom' for the day.
Sometimes our business is in a competitive field and search engine
look ups bring up hundreds of thousands of web pages. Getting listed
in the first few pages in such a competitive listing is a small
miracle to say the least. If you've been unsuccessful, try a back up
plan. Think of the next best key word look up and try to get a top 10
listing there. In my case, I was unable to get a top ten listing with
the key phrase 'web hosting'. So, I targeted other key words such as
'oc3' and 'oc12' and 'resellers' which also pertain to my business and
which web hosting customers are inclined to search for with the
engines.
The result has been a dramatic increase in traffic from the search
engines. When I look at my web site stats and see dozens of listings
from Altavista and Lycos, it makes all of my many positioning efforts
worthwhile! And most of all--- DON'T GIVE UP!

Subject Do it yourself Link and Banner Exchange
page.
Hello everyone with Adland. It has been awhile since I sent an
article so thought I should contribute something.
Many of us have Link and Banner exchange pages on our web sites to
help bring extra traffic. Sometimes they can be a little bit trouble
however. I don't know how many times I have just logged on for a
minute to check my e- mail and received a request to exchange links or
banners. I thought why not have a page where everyone can come and
post their own Links or Banners and then Link back to the page when
they have time. The page helps everyone involved rather than just
someone visiting my page and following a link to your site or vise
versa. If you have a few minutes take a look. You may want to make
your own do it yourself Link and Banner exchange page.
Sincerely, Daniel Moe

GET
FREE MEDIA PUBLICITY BY AVOIDING
THESE
EDITOR PET PEEVES.
What makes editors and publishers want to publicize your business.
by Carol Wadell
www.WorkshopInc.com
Media publicity is terrific FREE advertising if you can get it.
Nothing convinces prospects that you, your product, or service is
worth their money like an unbiased media endorsement. Although media
make their money by selling advertising, you can get free media
publicity if you follow these editor needs and pet peeves.
Newspapers, ezines, magazines, tabloids, TV stations, and radio
personalities are constantly on the look out for good stories and
helpful information **their audience will appreciate**. Those last few
words deserve emphasis. Editors aren't interested in giving you a free
plug nearly as much as they want to give their audience something
valuable. If your information is of interest to the audience, editors
don't mind giving you a boost in the process.
There are several do's and don'ts that impress editors.
1. When contacting an editor or publisher, get right to the point with
your phone call, email, or letter. Start with the part of your story
that will interest them the most. Don't ramble on too long. Their time
is valuable. Provide contact information so the editor can get back in
touch at a later date. Offer to follow up with more information.
2. Don't call a newspaper editor or reporter after 3pm. That's crunch
time at most daily newspapers when the staff is rushing to reach
deadlines. It's best not to call a TV station just minutes before the
newscast or while the cast in on the air.
3. Make sure your story is "newsworthy." Your message must be of
interest to a large part of the audience. Editors hate it when
somebody tries to disguise an ad or commercial as news or an article.
4. Make sure your written message has good grammar and correctly
spelled words. TV programs are looking for something visual. Offer to
supply tape showing your event or product. Ezines and tabloids are
interested in helpful information you can share with readers.
5. Don't forget radio which needs a constant supply of interesting
stories every day of the year. Call radio DJs when they're on the air
or right after their air shift is over. Have something entertaining,
funny, interesting, or controversial to say.
