Here comes great tip which I just confirmed myself.

First  to show you that it worked, go to
http://www.infoseek.com  and search for
< Free classifieds > . As a result you will get Adland Classifieds
as probably 5-Th entry.

I can't remember where I read about this tip,  but if you are on this list
and this tip comes from you, let me know and I will give you credit
for that.

and  now  for the tip.

Infoseek creates directory similar like Yahoo and by suggesting to
them your site in the appropriate category,  they might be willing to
permanently place you there. Write them to url_review@infoseek.com
and tell them your URL, your site name,  short description and category
you suggest your site for and why. Give them also your contact email.
It took three days for my listing to appear in their directory.

Subject: Re: Special message to Adland Digest Subscribers.

HI
I am just now getting to your email.
I don't know that emailing some one who is unreasonable about
spam is the solution.
I don't have a solution, however, I am also very concerned about it
I have a large ezine and I was also testing a new service, a
free submission service for people.  Last weekend one of the
people who requested an ad submission reported me to a
free email forwarding company I was also testing.  Even though
this person received 2 confirmation emails explaining that they
would receive email from the classified ads and links we submit
to, and they also filled out in great detail their ad info.
Anyway, without notice the free email forwarding service shut
down my account and emailed an auto message to anyone trying
to contact me a message saying we were "guilty" of spamming.
First we never  spam.  Second, they state right in this email
message that they have verified this and reported us to our ISP.

Low and behold, our ISP never received any complaints from
the free email forwarding service or the person who complained.
However, because of my volume of traffic I was forced to stop
my free submission service completely and In a 48 hour period
I lost 42,000 subscribers!!!!!
I won't tell you the mess it made with the servers and our income.

I would like to find other people like your self who run good businesses on
the internet and find out how we protect ourselves
from these newbies and trouble makers who have nothing better
to do than cry wolf!

Any suggestions since you sent out your original email message
below?
Have a Great Day

Note from Publisher.

I believe that one thing you can always do, is to try to show
that you are not guilty and make sure that large number
of people can be notified about that, so you can  get their support.
If you get third party involved and they can give you their
vote, then this is much more powerful than trying yourself
explaining and clarifying it to your ISP or service provider.
See post below:
Ben and Dar Thomas were given 24 hrs to explain their spam accusations
after they emailed Heidi to support my position about Adland.
Heidi notified their ISP about being spammed.

I realize that this is not exactly  the answer to your question, but  here
it goes

This here is ISP response after  Ben and Dar Thomas  and I emailed them to
explain the situation.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Thomas:

We appreciate your quick response and willingness to comply.  We have
received the e-mails that you have sent and have reviewed your case
further.  We now understand the issue and apologize for the citation we

It has been decided that no further action will be taken at this time
and that your case is concluded.  We appreciate you bringing this matter

I
have a joke newsletter I send out several times a year. Some people who
have requested to be on it forget. Some people are added by other people.
Sometimes both of these groups threaten me. I just delete them from my
list. Life is too LOOOOONNNGG to mess around with idiots.  You are giving
some people the gratification they desire by answering them.

How can any law be enforced-- even if there were one- like the anti spam
everyone is talkin about? How can I know if the email I am sending is
going to Washinton or any other state. No where does the address show
where the person who gets it lives. How about mail servers such as Lycos
or Yahoo? I have an address for business at Yahoo so I can get important
mail from anywhere in the world I am. All important mail is forwarded to
my Yahoo address by my office staff when I am out of the country or
somewhere else on a business trip and I need to see it and tell my staff
what to do.

Keep up your good job.

One thing that always bothered me when people get indignant when they are
spammed is that everyday almost everyone pays to get spammed. Almost
everyone

Subject: Hello Bogdan

Hello Bogdan,
My name is Rich Via and I have been reading all about the problems that you
and others have discussed. Pretty ugly people.

Many have suggested many things, some good and some not so good. We all
have to remember that the internet is World Wide and what rules apply in the
U.S. do not apply in other Countries. (as stated by one individual in AdLand
#63) We all need to work together to make E-Commerce a comfortable
experience
for our visitors by continuing to do good things. Negativity brings on
negativity. After all, thats why we all stay up late hours staring at a
screen trying to make things look just a little better. (RIGHT)

We have never posted to your group before but have always enjoyed reading
it when it comes out.
We do not believe in SPAM either but I do agree with some of the others
that it will probably continue no matter what laws are created. Although, I
do
not agree with posting these Badboys an Girls at the bottom of an e-zine or
group list. This just gives them advertising and these types of people need
to be ignored.

You may want to let your users know that one of the worst things they can
do is reply and ask to be removed from these lists. (unless they know that
it
is a responsible list owner such as your own) This only lets the spammers
know that you do receive mail from that address and it usually continues.

We have found that by just deleting them from our mailbox that they usually
quit after a few mailings. If they do not stop then we just put their
address in our mail sorter. (deleted off server and never seen) Most mail
programs have this ability.

You had one post regarding FFA Blaster and an alternative e-mail service
such as Yahoo, etc. for their postings. This is what is done by most of the
people posting to FFA pages already. They should not worry about it. (Have
them check their collect.txt file to prove it to themselves and feel
comfortable about it)

We would also like to submit one of our sites for review. It can be found
at: http://dctdistributing.com

We just did a remodel with FP98 after Christmas and would like to have a
few people visit to see if other visitors can view it in an acceptable
manner.
We welcome all comments as this is how we learn! By working with fellow
webmasters.

I hope that your problems can be resolved soon with that #@&* person and
your life can get focused back on your friends, family, and business.

Best Wishes and God Bless,
Rich Via

Good day to all.

First, I would like to say that I enjoy this newsletter and the comments
expressed.

Second, I have the Adlands banner on the top of my site,
http://www.freeyellow.com/members5/mysticeagle !

Third, regarding SPAM - I have had a situation whereby I was accused of
SPAM, had to talk with my local provider, the person went that far. After
much
checking (the person accusing me would not say what they had received!) it
was discovered what I had done was place an ad on a FREE Classified Site!!!
I had not sent this person anything, we are not even sure how he received
the
ad, BUT he took exception to receiving it and filed a SPAM complaint!

I agree with other comments, make a cc of everything you send out! You
never know when, not if, you will be accused of SPAM!

Keep up the good work on this newsletter.

This may be a solution for you if you use Eudora:
(I do not know if it would work on other email clients)

Download URL Manager 2.5
(might have to pay the shareware fee for this effect.  If you don't have
this already, it is guarenteed to change your online life, so buy it.)

http://www.url-manager.com/

When running URL Manager, under File go to 'Import', then to 'Scan Text'.

Then browse through the folders to your system folder to your preferences
to your Eudora folder and THEN select the file 'In"

I think this will do most of the job of sifting the info you want out of
chaos.

Let me know if it works.

Your HTML looked like it fit the page to me but
the page takes too long to load. Although this is
partly caused by using free web space, you could
speed it up by having a plain white page instead
of the background and replace some of the banners
with text links which work better at times to
generate leads.

Just a few suggestions.

From: Paul "the soarING" Siegel" <soarsegl@ix.netcom.com>
Subject: Strategy Trumps Tactics

Strategy Trumps Tactics

The Internet is new, alive, constantly growing and
changing. Therefore, during the first few years since
1995, businesspeople needed to become acquainted with
it, learn about the technology and the people in the
network, and get to understand the system. This required
constant experimentation. Trying different hardware and
software technologies, website and email techniques and
marketing approaches.

We did not know enough to develop coherent strategies.
So we set goals, and used certain tactics to achieve
them. If the goals were not met, we modified our tactics.

As a result of all this experimentation, we have a long list
of tactics that "work."

A few of the technologies that common wisdom says
"work" are autoresponders, shopping carts, list
processing software, banner rotation software, search
software. Does this mean they "work" for everyone? For
YOU? Must everyone use an autoresponder? Perhaps
you may be better off making human contact? Whether
you use it or not should depend on your overall strategy.

Many website and email techniques have been found to
"work." Among them are forms, newsletters, discussion
groups, articles in publications, reciprocal links, news
releases......and many more. Should you use all of these
or none of these? Almost everyone sings the praises of a
newsletter. Can you imagine a thousand marketing
experts producing a thousand newsletters, all offering
"tips?" Perhaps there's a better approach for you which
more closely fits your strategy.

On a higher level, we've developed marketing approaches,
such as banner ads, data base marketing, guerrilla
marketing, one-to-one marketing, and affiliate programs.
Again which will you use? One-to-one marketing, for
example, is an outstanding way to go. But is it useful for
everyone? More important, can it be a fundamental part of
your strategy?

Strategy. We've neglected it. It's time to think of the
strategy we want to follow. Not just marketing strategy.
Overall business strategy. Instead of focusing on tactics
to reach short-term goals, we should concentrate on
strategy to produce our long-range vision.

Strategy is a concept with many synonyms, among them:

  + Mission
  + Values
  + Policy
  + Standards
  + Business Plans
  + Business Models

Strategy trumps tactics. Choosing the correct strategy is
the main factor in business success. In my estimation,
painting a grand vision is the best way to get there.

To help executives and entrepreneurs develop Business
Strategy, I am launching a new mailing list, called
LearningFOUNT. It will be devoted to discussion of
Business Strategy. To subscribe, just send a blank

From: John Colanzi JColanzi@aol.com
Subject: How To Choose An Affliate Program

The idea of using affliate program to produce extra income - to attain
financial freedom - has taken the internet by storm! More and more people
are looking around, and attempting to find a real winner.

The problem is, affliate programs are sprouting up all over the place, and
there's just too many of them to keep up with, for the average webmaster.
This makes the choice of the best one or ones to "hook up with" a
frustrating
and time-consuming process.

Before you "hook up with" any affliate program, I advise you to run through
this check list:

THINK ABOUT THE PRODUCT. Is it a product that you would use regularly, and
freely recommend to your friends?

FIND OUT AS MUCH ABOUT THE OPERATION AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN.

Find out how the company keeps track of all incoming orders and when, as
well as how you'll be paid.

In essence, before deciding to become involved with an affliate program and
expecting to make a profit, it is essential that you understand:the program
and how it works.

It's up to you to decide just how much time you'll spend promoting affliate
programs.

Picking a winning affliate program can be exasperating because there are so
many to choose from, but the ordeal can be a lot more profitable if  you'll
just ask yourself the questions outlined in this report.

Subject: How to get people to advertise on my site

Hello All,
This is a message for the mailing list.
I am currently designing a Website for the promotion of various
organizations that provide Internet Tools at a good value.
Does anyone know of any approach I should use to help me gather thta
first bunch of people wanting to advertise on my site?
Do I really have to approach idividual producers or is there some sort
of middleman I can use?
Please email your suggestions to wink53@hotmail.com
Thank You!!!

--------------------------------------------------------
Note from Publisher.

Amongst many ad networks  and affiliate programs which you can find at
http://www.markwelch.com , Adland banner hosting program at
and Adland affiliate program
members.adlandpro.com/Affiliate/Affiliate.aspx
might be the answer for you.
Adland banner hosting program will offer you  $ 0.06   per click,
whereas Adland affiliate program will offer you Free advertising plus
20% commissions on each products sold at Adland.

Keep in mind that  many ad networks won't give you their banner on your
page unless you can prove that your sites has large number of viewings.
Usually not less than  100,000 per month. After testing  myself
http://www.valueclick.com on m site for about three moths, I can tell you
right now,  that you won't make a fortune on hosting banner  for ad
networks unless your site receives hundreds of thousands  visitors daily.
Except that,  advertisers with ad networks are not always interested in
people clicking on their banners. They are running branding and recognition
campaigns,  which are meant to create brand awareness about certain site
or concept. As I remember, large number of banners
served by valuclick on my site was for hotmail and infoseek. How many
people will click on it?
Your best  option is to try to identify your niche market and make an
effort to  appeal to visitors in your  area of interest. Maybe initially
just exchange links  with them to show them effectiveness of your site.
With this approach also comes reliability of advertising
with you. You should be able to show to your advertisers that you can
provide them with stats regarding usage of their impressions and visitors
coming to them from you.
I've  done this with  Adland, and this was turning point in anything which
happened since then.  View this page
to see how  my advertisers  can view their stats broken by days.
This page is only one of many which are available to my affiliates or
advertisers. Since offering this type of real time verification, I get more
orders for advertising  than my site can handle. I have to think of
upgrading
my hardware, my network and getting additional resources to handle
amount of work which comes with it.
