Hi all,

I'm sending next issue to you  earlier than usual.
The reason for this is that you were spammed 2 times
in last three days by Adland mailing list. These two messages are here
http://www.adlandpro.com/spam_messages.htm
Some of you might notice this some not.  These two messages were mailed to
you, using Adland digest mailing list (I stopped second message half way, so
not all of you received it) .Although I didn't send them to you, it could
look like I did.
Senders of these messages knew how to fool mail server and confuse it enough
to send this spam to all of you.
I can hardly believe that this is coincidence, taking into account story
with
Heidi which most of you are familiar with.
I believe that somebody wants to cause troubles to this list and if not
dealt with, might be successful.
If anybody on this list could help me in tracking of these people, please do
it. You will see that header information is all wrong.

Subject: Spamming and  spam haters !

Dear All listmembers
I am the individual who was writing about spamrules which are only
valid in the US .
I can understand that the problem like Heidi Thomas is much
bigger than I thought.
I was asking you members to comment on an idea of making a
new website , focusing on Spamming - Anti spammer fanatics -
ourselves and our not always white collegees , MLM listings of
good and bad , fraud etc.
I just want you to know that due to the emails I have got this idea
is now being made to reality. I together wiith one of  the
listmembers will very soon announce a new WEBsite dedicated to
give us Network Marketeers a chance of defending ourselves in
cases like Heidi Thomas. I am also trying to get some 500 ISP to
join the idea of sending copies of all abuse claims to me for trying
to build up a database , for the purpose of having information about
repeatedly same anti spam fanatics .
I would like to try to help those of you like in last digest who has
experienced a lot of losses due to close down by your ISP .
I can as I am situated outside US and even outside WestEurope
offer to sent from here what is needed without you have to be afraid
of loosing your ISP.
Could this be developed further as an businessopportunity to make
mailings from a safe system for others who are afraid of loosing
their ISP ??
I agree the new "wawe" ffa submittings are very irritating as it does
not REAL give any visits to your site but only a full mailbox for all
different kinds of suggestions. It is in my opinion not anything else
than a camouflaged emailcollect system .
A tip is to use a double registration domain name as sender (with
registrated alias), and SMTP server like Smtp.mail.ru  then you will
not have the problem of a shut down as it can not be reported to
your ISP !
Off course only for responsible mailings , I do not support
deliberate spamming , but the rules has gone too far in my opinion .
We all can use a filter if needed.

Please let me have your comments -
mailto:kaviar@theoffice.net

NB the new domain will be
TheMailcheck.com

Dear Rich,

I get your point about my suggestion and I "stand corrected", publicly.
Other suggestions were well received, but on this point, I think you are
correct. I'm not sure these people can be educated on this particular
subject or made to feel comfortable with their web experience, however,
we would be remiss if we did not continue trying to enrich their
experience and find their comfort zone for communication.

I visited your website and found it to be quite interesting. There
is some comfort zone there to be sure. Aside from your obvious artistic
talents, you found a way to put your visitors at ease and bring a little
humor into their experience with the pittsburghese and tomigotchee.

I suspect you are making some money there somewhere.

God Bless,
Glenda Wilson

Subject: Debbie Ducker sentiments

Having been working on my web site, I`ve been a bit lax and am just catching
up with my newsletters.

Oh how I echo the sentiments of Debbie Ducker is #62 re tolerance to email
mailings having been shut down twice. OK, so the first time I suppose I
deserved it when I used an item called "PostAgent" Not only did the ISP shut
me down for using it, but they also insisted I remove all ads for it from my
site and apologise to the usenet groups. I did this, but after four weeks
they still wouldn`t reinstate my site despite charging £10 per month. I
changed ISP.

Next, I "cross-posted" to video groups; same result. Yet I only sent one
letter to five groups. Now I avoid contacting usenet at all. Mind you, I
have also seen the "other side of the coin". I joined a video manufacturer`s
discussion list ... but soon unsubscribed when I got 125 postings from them
within 5 days. It was an unmoderated list, and any email sent to the server
was automatically mailed to everyone regardless. Now I feel THAT is true
"spam"

Naturally, if I`d quoted my "real" address on banner ads and the like, such
ads would have been rendered useless by ISP`s shutting me down. So instead I
use a redirection server. Now I can move my account where I like, and by
updating the server, surfers will be sent where I choose. I also set up a
"mirror page" on Tripod so that if one site goes down, I redirect people to
the back up version.

Anyway, onto real reason for letter. My web site is related to video makers,
especially those that make tapes for resale. So I set up a modified
guestbook on my site where people can list details of articles they`ve read
in relation to marketing in the idea that it might help others with offline
/ online promotions.   Do you know of any newsletters or reports that
deserve a mention here ? The list will hold 120 entries.(I have a similar
book for video related articles if anyone`s interested) The site address

Hope this is of interest

Subject: Fw: html Page Widths

Hi Nikki,
I reviewed the responses to you page width inquiry, and I would like to
share the following tips.
First of all, different browsers handle the page width problem differently.
What looks good on the Internet Explorer or Netscape Browsers will not
necessarily be
interpreted the same way, i.e. will not look the same on AOL, for example.
Secondly, the only way to be really sure is to test it out with different
browsers and compare them.  If your page is "geeked" on one or more
browsers, then you probably need a more sophisticated html pagemaker.
Thirdly, line width can be controlled with generous use of the <br> tag at
the end of
lines which "run" off the browser page.  This tag will force a line break
wherever it is applied.
More, I did not have the benefit of your URL, but from the comments of
others, your
page is apparently very busy, lots of images or links.  AS they commented,
they do slow down the time (drastically during high traffic periods on the
internet).  This
is exactly the opposite of what you want your visitors to experience.  Very
few visitors ant to twiddle their thumbs while your page is loading.  Most
will estimate very quickly how long they'll have to wait.  If its past their
waiting threshold, you can kiss them Goodbye.
Still more, if your background is complex, simplify it by using a plain
colored background, or a simpler pattern.  You can check out the load times
on your own
browser, and try to hit a happy medium.
Finally, if you have text wrapped around a graphic, some browsers may crowd
if off the page.  Again the <br> tag can help, and you can place it closer
to your graphic and shorten the lines beside it.  Another useful tag is the
<clear="...."> which has three attributes,i.e. the value between the quotes:
RIGHT, LEFT, AND ALL. This tag causes the test to stop flowing around any
images.  This means that if you have say, three lines after the graphic, and
you want the next line under the graphic, you use the <clear="...."> to
direct the line placement on the page below the graphic.
Hope this helps.

Subject:    I've been marketing online for over six months and have had a

Dear Friends,
I've been marketing online for over six months and have had a little
success. It is really a learning curve. I've run my own business since
1972 and thought that marketing could be easy over the net. Wrong!!
When you're only able to work part time on a limited budget it's hard
to get things going,  plus the fact that all these "get rich schemes"
cause people to view you with skepticism if not downright disdain.
I have come upwith a Free promotion page
that although it's not the "slick" professional one I have put some time and
research into it. I'm going to try to update as often as time allows and
I've came up with the idea of a Site of the Week. I hope this helps all you
newcomers and part timers to get some free or at least low cost promotion.
Have a look and feel free to send me some feedback.
Thanks

Low Cost E-Marketing!
By Jim Daniels

Like many small business owners, I work with a small marketing budget.
Okay, truth be told, I hate to spend money on advertising. Especially if I
can get better exposure at a very low cost, sometimes even FREE!

During the past three years online, I've learned some great ways to do
just that. Today I'd like to share them with you.
Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you to spend days and days at free
classified sites or newsgroups. The methods I'll be sharing with you are
much more powerful.
So how does the cost-conscious marketer get the best free and low-cost
exposure?

Simple. By utilizing various forms of the best free marketing tool ever
invented...   Email!

There are many ways to utilize email marketing. For the most part, email
marketing can be broken down into two distinct categories... Targeted and
Untargeted.

First I'll touch on the untargeted, just to show you why it is a waste of
time.

UNTARGETED EMAIL MARKETING

Untargeted email marketing on the internet usually takes on the form of
"Unsolicited Bulk Email". Whether you are doing it yourself or hiring one
of the thousands of email blasting companies online, it makes no difference.
Bulk email is NOT a smart way to market.

Let me explain exactly why...

"Spamming", or sending mass email to "unqualified" email addresses is
considered bad "netiquette". If you send unsolicited email to addresses
that do not want commercial email, not only do you risk the reputation of
your
business, you can get into more trouble than you would expect.

What kind of trouble?

Well, since many ISP's do not allow this activity, they will discontinue
your account as soon as the inevitable complaints start to trickle in.

If you want better results without the risk, consider the following
alternatives...

TARGETED EMAIL MARKTING

Targeted email marketing works. Truly targeted email means getting your
email to recipients that HAVE approved of it. Not only do your get better
results, you won't have to worry about ISP cancellation and more
importantly, the reputation of your business.

Here are the best targeted email marketing methods I've used. (Listed from
most expensive to least expensive.)

- "Opt In" email list rental.
- Ezine advertising.
- Ezine publishing.
- Email Discussion group participation.

Here are details on how I utilize each...

- "Opt In" email list rental

Did you know that you can actually rent email lists of people who have
approved email about certain topics.

(Just about any topic imaginable!)

This method is not the cheapest form of targeted email marketing, but it
works! On average, you'll have to spend about ten to fifteen cents per
address. The companies that rent the addresses even do the mailing for
you.
You just sit back and wait for the orders!

When I released my book, "Insider Internet Marketing",  I used this method
and sold a few thousand dollars worth of books in a two day span. The
company I used is called Postmasterdirect.

Here are three more companies that offer direct "opt-in" email
marketing...

Bulletmail - http://www.bulletmail.com

Htmail - http://www.htmail.com/customer.html

Targ-It - http://www.targ-it.com

- Ezine advertising

I'm a big fan of ezine advertising and regularly utilize this low budget
technique. I'm not just saying that to drum up advertisers for my own
newsletter, actually I have a waiting list of about a month just to get
an ad in
here. Why? Quite simply, email advertising works!

Take a look at the advertising section of your favorite email ezine. The
reason there are so many ads there is because the advertisers get
results.
Not only do you reach your target audience, you reach them by the
thousands. Of all the online marketing methods available, ezine
advertising could be the most effective.

Many larger companies are just starting to realize this and are entering
into  this exciting new advertising medium. Compared with the high costs of
web
site banner advertising, ezine advertising is a bargain.

- Ezine publishing

One step better than "advertising" in ezines, is actually publishing your
own.
If you are not already publishing your own e-newsletter, I highly recommend
you do so. It is much easier than you might imagine.

Your customers and prospects will constantly be "in touch" and your ezine
can keep them abreast of new products and services as you make them
available. You can also generate income offering classified or sponsorship
advertising if you wish.

Unlike traditional newsletters, there are no printing or postage costs.
Since your own cost is zero, you can offer free subscriptions, thus insuring
a steady flow of new prospects.

To get started publishing your own ezine, you do not need to pay for list
management. You can manage and deliver your ezine yourself with a good
email program like Qualcomm's Eudora or Pegasus Mail by David Harrris.
These are the best email programs available on the internet and they can be
downloaded for free at the following URL's

http://www.eudora.com
http://www.pegasus.usa.com

Once you have your email program installed, practice mailing to a few
people at once by using the BCC (blind carbon copy) feature. It's important
to use the BCC field when mailing to a list. This insures that everyone on
the list does not see other email addresses on the list. No one wants their
email address publicized all over the net.

After you've perfected your emailing skills, all you need is some
subscribers.
That's easy, simply post a message announcing your newsletter to the
"NewList Announcement List". Full details on posting are here:

http://scout.cs.wisc.edu/scout/new-list/format.html

- Email discussion group participation.

An email discussion group is delivered via email like an email newsletter.
But a discussion list differs from an email newsletter in one major way --
you are allowed to voice your opinion, usually through a moderator.

Discussion lists also allow you to ask for help from others with similar
interests. What's more, you can assist people in need while your sig file
(the footer you include at the end of every email message you send) invites
readers to your site. Discussion group marketing works because the posts
are delivered directly TO a targeted audience. Once again, push marketing
at it's finest! In addition to posting to discussion groups you should
consider advertising if the group you join offers it.

No matter what you are marketing online, participating in discussion lists
makes sense. Not only will you learn some valuable information, it's is a
great way to soft-sell some of your wares.

To find some discussion groups on your particular area of interest, visit
http://www.e-groups.com . While  you're there you can even start a group
of your own!

Now that you are armed with the facts about email marketing, go out and
start your email marketing campaign today! And remember, whatever email
marketing method you choose, be sure that everything single email you send
out includes your URL and a brief description of exactly how YOU can be
of service to anyone who may be reading that email!
