Greetings to all,

It looks like our list grows in spite of me removing all addresses
sending autorespnses  to the list. Also number of guest articles
submission grows to the point that I'm not able to include all of
them. Although all of them are very interesting thoughts and ideas
for growing business, I'm trying to focus  "on web marketing and
promotion". When submitting your articles please keep in mind that
this is what this list is about.

Subject: Pay for Ranking Search Engines.

Hi Rhondah

just read your article in Adlands #69, and about your success with GoTo.com
We have purchased 3 keywords with GoTo.com but with disappointing results.
As it is a pay-per-click through I think we shall still have an account
with GoTo.com when I retire :) {Although we aren't exactly what you would
call "The last of the Big Spenders"...our words are costing us only 1/ 2c
each :).... ok u can call us tight...but we're on a very ltd budget }
However I was interested in what you had to say about "tweaking" keywords
to suit special holidays etc. May give that a go.
I was wondering what sort of site you had, whether is was a business site
or product based?
I only have one reservation with "Pay for Ranking Search Engines", is that
over time (and immediately if the "Big Boys" {Excite etc} go this way),
that the keywords would become unaffordable to the "little woman". How on
earth could we ever hope to compete with people like Barnes and Noble,
Amazon and all these other big multi-nationals. As it stands now, sure it
is difficult to get a top position on one of the search engines, but at
least I can "try" and work towards it.
Perhaps the net would split into a 2 tier system, with the big Cos. taking
up all the places on the search engines and the littlies hmm, what? start
their own search engines?, work through web rings and links?
Hmmmmmm, what do you think? Is this a good thing or not?
Just musing.
Fiona:)

Subject: A topic I don't see - Helping Virtual Host
clients ponder their Web Site function.

Hi there,

I've been reading the digests for a while now - lurking I guess ! - and
in my own business, I see an issue arise constantly. Usually around
accounts time.

A lot of web site owners have their pages up so others in the local
community can easily find them. But how best to promote themselves.
Search engines are not what I'm talking about here. I look after that
for them. What I'm asking is, what can they do for themselves? As anyone
in business knows, 90% of business is done locally. There is very
little discussion any where actually, with regard to "What is a web
site best used for?".

In my opinion, a web site is a communication platform, between a
potential client, or actual client and the business/web site owner. The
last thing it should be used for is "Advertising". Its probably the
worlds worst advertising medium anyway.

But how does one remind the owner of this? What I'd like to see is a one
page description, or "Users Guide for Web Site Owners". In fact I'll
write one myself, that is addressed to non-technical web site owners
(not the hosting site managers)

I mean, how many times do you hear "I've had this web site for 12 months
now, and only had two clients from it!"
My reply, politely of course is "How many new clients has your fax
machine generated in the same time? Neither are advertising platforms,
but a means of enabling your customers to more easily contact you"

what do you/others think?

Cheers
Robert

Subject: Lack of Success

We are a specialised receptive Tour Operator for Austria. We have
had a web page for over two years and have tried various efforts
to increase business but without great success.

Working with some specialised organisations we create a lot of
e-mail traffic but not real customers.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has some suggestions as
to how we can improve our sales to Austria.

Willkommen  Kim Waddoup,
Wie geht es dir?

I looked at your  site briefly and found it professionally designed, fast
loading and informative.  I found two links offering contact with you  and
in my opinion they might be also  source of your email traffic.   Without
doing more research you don't  know how your clients learned about you.
How do you  know if your clients didn't find  you through internet. and
after they requested your brochure over your   request form , contacted
your office over the phone or fax?

I would suggest   following to enhance your business.

1. Add secure online  ordering of your packages.
2. Give your clients discount if they order online.
3. Add maps of regions where tourist resorts are located
(maybe I missed that, it wasn't obvious though)
4. Right now 90% of traffic to my site is generated by US and Canadian
visitors. This proves who has access to the internet. You should tune
your site more   to those visitors by  arranging not just  accommodation
and recreational activities    but also arranging    transportation to
    and from.
( If you already doing this I didn't see   it after quick look)
5. Arrange partnerships with sites located in North America. Pay  them
commissions for sending clients to your site.
Look at my affiliate program info
    http://www.adlandpro.com/become_an_affiliate.asp
6. Buy advertising from sites dealing with travel and sport. (skiing)

7. For some strange reason you don't have  German version of your site,
unless you have  different domain for it. Not counting countries where
German is spoken  half of the remaining  part of Europe can   better
    or worse  communicate in German.
8. Remove links to "Under construction" pages.
This is  frustrating for visitors  and taking away focus from things
    you can do now.

Das ist alles , was ich mich gedacht habe.

Subject: New Comer

Dear list member,

I am a new comer on this list. Since my country -Indonesia- facing an
economic crisis, then I turned my business focus from inviting foreign
investor, to selling products from Indonesia -an export oriented
business-. I am planning to be a small but solid exporter non producer
in my country within 2 years using internet.
I have started with listed export quality handycraft, but then confusing
which one is more urgent, develop an internet store -web site- or just
offering trough mailing list first, put a longer list or just start with
my exsisting list.
I need your comments and advices according this.

Regards,

Endianto<endianto@indo.net.id>

To only find out what is in demand,  you have t o start offering it. Time
will show what goes and what doesn't.

To make me interested in your exported products, you would have to show
them to me. I would never buy  a product (handicraft) if I wouldn't know
how this could fit with my existing style. In short you need to display
pictures of your products and prices. Provide secure online ordering and
transaction processing.
This is the only way to convince your buyers that you are serious about
your business and  you know what you are doing.
The quickest way to start , is to get one of the offered services which
allows you on creating of your own store by just using browser. One
which comes to mind, is Yahoo store. For  $100 per month you can
keep up to 10 items. Yahoo store will provide you with shopping basket
and  secure credit card ordering. You don't need to know anything about
programming to get set up. Just use their tutorial and your store can be
setup within half an hour if you have images of your products.

I hope this helps.

===================S u c c e s s   S t o r y======================

From: "Sharon Evans" <sharon@npwt.net>
Subject: Sucess Story

Almost a year ago I gathered up the courage to venture out on the
Internet.  Scared!  Clueless and lost all the time.  Looking back, I
remember the days when I didn't know how to get from here to there and
back again. Some how I found Ad Lands.  Don't ask me how, I just did!
In the beginning I searched the world over to find a business that would
bring the cash cow home.  I looked at network marketing, affiliate
programs, the click through banner things, Giving away Free websites.
You name it I most likely have looked at it.  Anything to be able to
work on the net.
However I kept coming up empty handed.  This is just great, thinking to
myself, I finally have the world at my finger tips and I still couldn't
find that one thing, I just knew would be it, if only I could figure out
what "IT" was!
Over time I started to pick up on things about websites.  I would take
note of what made me stay at a site and why I would just surf on out.  I
started to notice that many websites are headed in many different
directions with out a clue.  Little did I know what was happening while
I was studying this occurrence. I also noticed that businesses are
struggling with blending their out side business to work with their
inside business.
Along my journey I discovered Chat.  For a chatter box like myself, this
was like striking gold.  I looked at chat as a way to  build up an on
line following for what I had not yet a clue.  Sure enough that is what
happen.
Christmas came 2 days early.  One night while chatting away, this one
person was determine to chat with me.  I didn't know them from Adam.  I
tried to dart any conversion with this person in fear they were a wacko.
And yes you do come across them in a chat room.  This person was so
determine to prove to me they weren't a wacko,  they invited me to take
a look at their site and to get back to them and tell them want I think.
Lesson number one don't ask me what I think because you may not get the
answer you are looking for.

This website was a nightmare.  A mess!  They needed help.  Big time.
Not over the tech part but the way it was going in too many directions
and unorganized.
I sent my "analysis" of their site and I did tell them it was a
nightmare.  I offered to help them out a little. No charge etc.  After
all I wasn't doing anything at the moment why not help some one out who
really needs it.  (that's the mom in me)

Because the site was that bad I never really took the time to learn
about who I was working with.  After 2 weeks of time I asked for an info
packet on their services.  To my complete surprise they are an EMMY
AWARD WINNING ANIMATION STUDIO.  They have worked on some little
projects like Tiny Toons Adventures, Animanics, Taz Mania, Pinky & The
Brain and the list goes on and on.
I about dropped dead on the floor.
It took almost all of January just to get the concepts and plans all
work out.  Not ready for prime time promoting, I started to link their
site to free link pages.
Remember how this started out as just a little help project?  Today I am
please to announce I am their website rep.  I earn a commission on any
work that comes in from their website.
After just 3 weeks of using free links a  cartoon series work order came
in.  Not just some little series but a $250,000 cartoon.   This is
beyond any thing that even my mind could ever cook up alone.

Did this all happen over night you may ask?  NO.  In the outside world
of business I have had many failures and learning adventures in selling
promoting and marketing.  I bring 15 years of marketing and selling and
promoting experience to the net.  I just finally took everything and
bottled it up into a neat little package for the net and found the
prefect fit.
Be my guest at our: Pre Grand Opening invitation.  If you would like to
visit The World Of Cartoon Stars please be advised our grand opening is
set for March 1st.  We still have some final touches to add.  But you
will enjoy learning about this studio at www.startoons.net now!

I do not have my own website because I work with my clients website.  If
you would like a free website analysis done just e-mail. sharon@npwt.net
with your website address.

So there is my journey to success.  Hope you enjoyed it and I wish you
the best.

Sharon

Subject: BE AGGRESSIVE - BE INNOVATIVE

BE AGGRESSIVE - BE INNOVATIVE

To succeed online these days we must be aggressive
and we must be innovative. We cannot be one without
the other. There are many people out there, that are
very aggressive, mailing every day, but their pitch
is not innovative. Have you ever asked yourself what
made you stop and actually look at an ad? What caught
your eye? It was probably something innovative and new.

A number of months back I received one of the usual emails
from someone who promotes his numerous businesses on a
daily basis. Yes he is a pain in the neck, but I never
remove him. The reason? Because on one particular day I
opened his email and something caught my eye. He was
innovative in his pitch, and within the first couple
of lines I knew that he was on to a program that had
great potential. I have made over $3,000 dollars from
that program in two months. I will not pitch that program
here, but will tell you I am very glad I never deleted his
email and glad I never asked to be removed from his list.

So we must learn to be innovative. We can email 10,000
people our message and if it is not innovative then we
don't stand a chance. You can email 100 people and if
you are innovative and catch their attention you are
going to be a lot further ahead than the person who emails
a 5 page letter to 10,000 people. If you are innovative you
will also become time effective. Being innovative will save
you time and allow you to reach more people, and give you
the chance of having more people join you.

The hard part here is that you are going to have to become
not only a salesperson, but also a marketer. You will have
to constantly be coming up with new advertising gimmicks to
attract people. It is one thing to be a salesperson, but on
the internet your presentation of yourself and your product
requires you to become an advertising wizard as well.

This is one reason I joined the Warriors site. I have access
to hundreds of ideas, reports, things I can offer free to my
downline and people I correspond with. It constantly gives me
new and fresh ideas and I also teach these ideas to my downlines.
I can participate in their online forums and meet other network
marketing people and share and get ideas from them also. It is
not free, it is a one time fee of $39.95, for a lifetime of
ideas and fresh material. It's an investment in yourself.

In today's internet world you CANNOT AFFORD TO FALL BEHIND. You
must constantly be on top of everything new that is happening out
there. Your potential audience is growing at a phenomenal rate
EVERY day. You CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS this fast growing market.

The link to the Warriors site is http://www.clo.com/~jjj/tricks.html

If you don't get your money's worth at this site they will refund
your money. I will bet that you will learn more at this site than
you ever expected, and it will help you to recruit more people,
faster than anything else you may do on the internet today.
