Subject: Here's an idea about a new type of FFA links page
Hi,
This is in response to William Bret's post about a new type of free links page.
I have come accross something similar to your suggestion which is free and cheatproof, and
will also be of interest to anyone promoting a site. This page allows you to place
your free ad for anything you'd like and you can offer other people the chance t
o do the same. When someone places their ad on your page a new page is generated for
them with their ad, but it also contains yours. As more people apply for a free page
your ad is taken with it and eventually will be on thousands, maybe millions of pag
es throughout the net. You can also place your banner on the page for a small fee, but it
is totally optional. If you do put your banner on the page it will stay on all the
other pages that are generated from yours. It is a great way to build free traff
ic! You can take a look at this http://www.adnetwork.nu/st/1553812.htm
I also have a question about HTML which hopefully someone can answer for me. Does
anyone know the tag to use when linking to another page which will also open a new
browser?
Thank you,
Howie Arzt

Subject: HTML tip
Dear Bogdan,
You had someone a while back ask about opening new windows with the
links on her pages (so that people who surfed over to her affiliate
programs wouldn't lose track of her page). Specifically, I think that
the html tag, inserted right after the target URL, is: target="_top".
E.g., <a href="http://www.quickrich.com/" target="_top">,
although other
words work as well. I personally use "new"; e.g., <a
href="http://www.quickrich.com/" target="new">. The
"target" tag is
used extensively for building frames, when you want a link in one window
frame to pop up a page on a different, "target" frame.
My main point, though, is how to learn this and other information about
html. If you see something on a page that you really like, look at the
"page source" in "view". You can't copy pages verbatim, of
course, but
the tags themselves are not copyrighted, and you can pick up a lot of
ideas to apply to your own pages. I learned the 'target="new" tag' and
also how to create "seamless" frames by looking at source html on other
pages.

Subject: All The Marketing Sites
I would just like to know the opinion of
other marketers on this list about the
amazing amount of marketing sites on the
Internet.
Now don't get me wrong here, I have the
opinion that there is always enough room
for all of them, but what I don't
understand is the poor quality of the
sites. It seems everybody on the
Internet feels that they can get a site
at hypermart, throw up a million banners
and literally wait for the money to fill
their mailbox. They think a few
sentences describing the new free
business opportunity will make them
financially independent. Despite what
successful Internet entrpreneurs are
telling them, they don't want to listen
to what does work.
I've had a marketing site up for about a
year now and have had quite a bit of
success with it. I'm not going to try
to brag about anything here but I want
to make the point that the only reason
I've brought any money in through my
site is because I have worked hard, I
have learned new things, and I have
really tried to help people. It is the
same way successful offline small
businesses have been run for years, yet
somehow everyone thinks the Internet
should be different.
Maybe I'm just blowing of some steam
here, but I would really like to know
what others think. Please don't get me
wrong, hypermart is a great service for
a business with limited funds, and I
have seen many wonderful sites on
hypermart. I was just using them as an
example of free sites with poor
marketing site quality. Thanks for
letting me vent.

Hiya John,
Good job, I do believe that the site is coming along nicely. All your 'META
TAGS' are in the right spot with good descriptions too. I did not find a bad links in your
easy to follow menu at the bottom of the pages. Infact, the only fault I can find is
just in the theme. Not all your pages follow the same theme. When the themes are as
opposite in colors, as yours are, this can cause some eyestrain. Most of your pages are
the same theme so I was expecting the same when......boom! My poor eyes! LOL! I wo
uld suggest the theme to be the same throughout. I'm not to sure I would have used the
black theme but it could be just me. I always try to use bright warm colors. But that is
me.
Good luck and keep up the good work!
regards,
Michael Bryant

Hi Walker,
Not bad, Gotta love that frontpage eh? LOL! Here are a
couple of tips: Put in some 'META TAGS' in your pages. You have none right now and
thus your site will not get listed in the search engines. Especially use the 'keywords'
and 'description' tags
as these are the 'biggie' points that search engine spiders look for. Also on this page http://www.honeywilldo.com/newpage1.htm
one of your graphics is not working. The one linking http://www.scotland-net.com/ .
Good job,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Richard,
Interesting use of colors. LOL! Not my choice but hey, whatever
works for you. :)
Here are some of the things I noticed:
Your title has HTML in it.
You need to add in those 'META TAGS' 'keywords' and 'description' are important. Search
engine spiders 'rank' your site based on the keywords you use. And try to use some of the
keywords in your title.
Use the same theme throughout your site. On some of your pages I had difficulty reading
the text because the colors of the text almost matched the back ground.
Seriously consider getting a Domain name. Any business on the web that has been there for
awhile will tell you that a domain name is a 'must' for those wishing to make serious
money. I understand the costs, especially when just starting up a business. How
ever it is worth the cost in the long run. I would suggest using http://www.virtualis.com/vr/mbryant/ I
have several sites through them and have found that they have the 'BEST' in support.
Good luck and keep up the good work!

Michael Bryant

Developing and hosting your site is only the first step. Now, the real work begins
By GEOFFREY R. CAPLAN
Many companies become so focused and concerned with the development of a web site that
they forget one very salient principle: a commercial web site should bring measurable
results.
This happens too often. Site owners, web developers and creative people become so wrapped
up in the creative project that no thought is given to the marketability of the site.
Then, it's too little, too late.
I have spent five years marketing web sites for small, medium and large companies. I can
tell you candidly that it is not easy to market a site successfully.
Innovative, "out of the box" thinking helps tremendously. It's time for a new
web marketing paradigm. You should work closely with a professional web marketing company
or consultant as early in the development process as possible. Try to make this person
an integral part of the development team.
You will reap big rewards with this type of thinking. The site will be optimized for
search engines, download fast and maintain just the right balance of relevant content and
attractive design principles.
Web marketing services must be applied strategically and comprehensively. Search engines
are inundated with submissions at a record pace. As a result, the chances of achieving and
maintaining a high search engine ranking are becoming increasingly difficul
t.
Web site optimization for search engines has become a major industry on the Web, with
companies starting up that guarantee high positioning. The fallacy is that high search
engine rankings can be achieved, but not consistently. Search engine algorithms ar
e changed periodically to avoid spamming the index and the best a company can expect is to
achieve a relatively high, but not top, position. Again, a well-balanced web marketing
strategy should employ a multitude of traffic-building programs.
Start to think about how the site can be marketed effectively both on and off the Web. Web
marketing should be a well balanced and multi-faceted program. Search engines and
directories are very important but they are by no means your only source of traffi
c. Linkage, ezine and newsletter advertising, web classifieds, press releases and other
forms of web marketing are proving to be increasingly effective. Web marketing should be a
well-balanced and multi-faceted program.
If the site is hosted but receiving poor traffic - and many are - this could be a good
time to have the site reviewed for overall marketability, including search engine
optimization. There are services that will review your site and make recommendations. Q
ualifications and experience will vary so be sure there is some assurance of measurable
results.
