Thanks, Carl, for pointing out another good credit card transaction company
option.  We have another for Adlanders: ClickBank. Not only have we had very
good, quick support from these people for our website, they also offer a
free Affiliate program for webmasters to promote their sites, and also a
Reseller program.  They also list on their links page some companies that
offer a fair value on US pay-by-check services. The fee for using ClickBank
is low and they deliver a good quality service to their customers.  Our link
to ClickBank (their referal program) is

Recently I have begun to have success with 2 of my newest affiliations.
It seemed since they are selling well for me on the web, that I should

completely FREE, of course.  Both of these programs have been generating

Hi Bogdan,
I have subscribed to Adlands Digest for a couple of weeks and although
fairly new to Internet marketing I am impressed with the quality of
content- so impressed that I save all editions in an Adlands folder for
reference.
I have a website which gets hits but so far has made no money at all so
I would like to have some pointers to improve its profitability.I'm even
thinking of following the advice of one of your subscribers and make the
links on the pages open a new window to keep prospects on my site.I
didn't know how to do this before and always thought it was a great
idea.
The URL of my site is http://www.hotyellow98.com/stevedoc .
Regards and keep up the good work.
Steve Doherty.
<snip>

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Sorry Steve,
It's BRUTAL time again.
UGH
How are you going to make me wealthy?
With other people's programs?
Not likely...unless you are looking for the people that are newer at
this then you, but of course the guys that signed you up have already
hit on them too.
282 doesn't count as hits, get rid of the counter, use a tracker that
keeps your stats personal, this is especially important for new
websites.
What's with the re-direction?
Kicked off? It won't be long before your home ISP does the same, I'm
sure.
Get rid of the banners and add some CONTENT.
You know what you know, start a website and tie into that... not the
stuff that you have there now.....
Use meta tags, get content, promote.... but first get a website that is
UNIQUE.
GEESH....at least most of your banners work, even if you don't link the
word "here" at all... A BIG NONO to NOT link the word "here" in a
sentence.
I know that I am at a page...how do I get off?
DO NOT use the tag to keep windows popping up, either your audience
wants to stay or they want to leave... a good navigation system will
keep visitors looking through your web-site, not a bunch of windows that
they have to close , it'll just leave a bad taste in their mouths and
you'll NEVER make it as far as a bookmarked site in their computer......
If this is what you want to do, to try and make some web-based money,
all the power to you.
At the very least, go to http://www.come.to and get a redirection URL so
that savvy web users like myself can at least be tricked into visiting
your site..I run when I see hotyellow, hypermart, etc.
Good Luck.
Inspiration works wonders, I hope that I have sparked yours.

ASIDE to Bogdan - Everyone reads Adlands for help, as do I. It is a
never ending battle to get high in the search engines, but that is only
a third of the battle, if that much. For the first year, search engine
placement will make or break a website, but after that if all you get is
hits from the search engines to sustain traffic, you are probably a porn
site with SEX all over it. Promotion starts in many places, everyone
will sell you top ten or twenty placement in a variety of search
engines, how much do you want to pay is the only question. The real
web-entrepreneurs know that promotion is keyed to other websites that
will share their hits and links openly, with a common goal in mind,
which is keeping the surfer coming back. If you don't get bookmarked,
remembered, or referred, YOU ARE DEAD.
The only thing that works is filling a need that is there, whether real
or perceived.
Find it, Use it, Exploit it, Profit with it.
Thanks Bogdan.

Good Luck To All,

Robert Lee

Site review for Lynne O'Connor Internet Homeworking Directory

<snip>

... partly with a view to getting my rating back but mainly, a general
opinion on how I can improve it. It's a website for UK residents wanting
to work from home, but has loads of information relevant worldwide.
http://members.tripod.co.uk/homeworking

By the way, no need to mention I'd be better with my own domain.
Somebody already has the names I wanted in co.uk and .com.

</snip>

Dear Lynne,

Your site is definitely going to be a treasure for those that want to
start a home based business.

First, don't worry about the competition for a few keywords. whatever
you are losing there you are making up in other areas, right?

I guess not, otherwise, why the question.

Use your keywords to your advantage.

First: What are the keywords that you are counting on for hits? This
would be needed to know to see the search engine and how it is now
listing your site and the listings that are now ahead of you. As an
independent webmaster, you are up against the Big Boys of web promotion,
so you have to view their pages and see how the got ahead of you.

Secondly: The use of keywords in your Meta Tag description is repetitive
and not necessarily properly set up for your site. You have the word
"home" in one form or another 13 times, but do not use all of the "home"
words on your page. That could be called spamming the search engine. Use
your site tracker to your advantage. Check what keywords are bringing
you traffic and move them to the front of your Meta tag description.
Make darn sure that your keywords are present in your web page, in order
of popularity and relevancy.

Your keywords are copied from one page to the next, thereby reducing the
relevancy of your site overall to any one keyword, unless of course the
pages are just copied over and over, which I can see they are not. You
don't repeat pages, why repeat keywords? Your site is well laid out with
relevant topics for each page, tweak your keywords to match.

I checked altavista, since that is the search engine that you are most
concerned about getting a good listing:

Homeworking and uk you rank well

Homeworking + uk you do not show up at all.

Homeworking you are at 37 and 39

While your competitor www.homeworkingmom.com has almost 40% on the
listings in the top 40, registering several different pages. This tells
me that you need keyword help, better placement of your pages will be
achieved with targeted keywords for the content of the pages they are
on.

Thirdly: I think that you have too much white space in your pages when
viewed at 600x800. Change your table width from percentage measure to a
fixed table width. Change <TABLE BORDER=2 WIDTH="100%"
HEIGHT="50%"> to <TABLE BORDER=2 WIDTH="620" HEIGHT="310"> to
better lay out your page.

Some spiders (search engine robots) don't read tables well. Start your
page off with a description, aim of your site, and a paragraph of why
your visitor needs the information present at your site (using your best
keywords, of course) above your first table!

Fourth: Get your domain name. A quick check on internic.net showed that
www.ihd-net.com and www.homeworking-uk.com are still available. Get one
while you can!

Fifth: Work on your phrasing for invitations for people to bookmark your
site, since it will change every week? Month? Whatever. You are missing
this. A newsletter would help too.

I have to ask, how are you doing with other search engines? I did not
look, this is maybe something to work on.

Change is good.

Good luck with your site. J

Hi Bogdan and AdLanders!

Your newsletter keeps getting better all the time, Bogdan!  Of all the (many)
newsletters I get each day, yours gets read first!

Robert, I went to your site and had a couple of ideas for you. I love the
way you make your tables behave - mine never want to do that for me!
I notice that you use one color background on the first few pages, then switch
to another color later in your site.  Could be me, but that seems to interrupt
the flow of your site.  I liked the single color background without the pattern
better.

Also, you made the Nav bar stay in place at the top while the page scrolled
up on your inner pages, but the Nav bar scrolls along with the page on other
pages.  It really makes your site easier to navigate when you had it stay at
the top like that.

You have a lot of interesting content on your site!  I would suggest that you
make
the jokes page open into a new window instead of having your visitor

leave your site to view that page.  You can do that by having the code
<<a href="whatever.com/my.html" target="new"> and then your visitor won't get
sidetracked on the joke page and forget to go back to your site :)

You should have lots of visitors to your page with your subject matter *smile*

Best in Success!

Terri

UPSELL FOR FREE
by Judith Tramayne-Barth

Garnering hits to your web site is hard work, yet when they do come, do
you maximize your marketing efforts with an upsell?

Example: I am an Artist/Author/Sculptor. There are at least 15,000 to
30,0000 or more art sites already on the Internet. How do I effectively
compete? By offering free art? Not in this lifetime, I would draw
approximately two people to my site if I'm lucky. No, I offer my free
electronic booklet "Loving Your Teenager (In Spite of Themselves)"
everywhere I can get free advertising.

As we all know, people like free stuff. My booklet is no exception. Even
though I want to share what I
Fve learned raising my children and make
life easier for parents of teens, I still have products to sell. This
means I use the last two or three pages of my free booklet to upsell
(talk about) other booklets for sale on my web site, my murder/mystery
novel and my Arti-zine&127; Art Lessons.

Next, I carry my upsell a step further. In my email, I include the
following message:

First, thank you very much for requesting my booklet "Loving Your
Teenager (In Spite of Themselves). I hope you enjoy reading it and, like
all advice, use what you like and discard what you don't. Second, if you
like what you read and think it might be useful to friends of yours who
either have teens or soon will have, by all means you have my permission
to forward this email on.

Thus I have accomplished three things:

The most important in my opinion, offered help to parents of teens.

Used upsell to promote three or more of my products and,

Enlisted the aid of the people requesting my booklet to help me in my
marketing endeavors by sending my booklet and upsell messages to even
more people.

And finally, let's not forget the all important signature line on all
of my e-mails where I list both my sites with a one tantalizing line
comment on each. Making it easier for people I "correspond" with to just
click and zip to my sites.

Remember, free is good, Upsell for Free is better.

=============================
If you'd care to see how the upsell works, by all means e-mail Judith
at trabar@trabar.com and put "Loving" in the subject line. But only if
you promise to send it out to five of your friends (only kidding --
well, sort of).
Tra-Bar your source for Arti-zine Art Lessons, see http://www.trabar.com
for sample lesson or http://www.agoodread.com to read two sample chapters
of "Conspiracy  To Love"
A murder/mystery and conspiracy novel with a touch of the paranormal.

Top 10 Requirements for Choosing the Right Web Host
By Earl B. Hall

After you've selected a great domain name and you're ready to
get started, the next step is choosing the "right" web host for
your business needs.

Your web site will be the very foundation of your Internet
presence. Selecting the right web hosting service is critical
to your success. I am sure you have heard the old saying, "you
get what you pay for". This usually rings true on the internet,
as well as in the real world.

Consider your choices:

1) Free Websites. A few megabytes of storage space, slow
servers, usually no customer support, can't use your own domain
name, bogged down with their advertisements, are not indexed by
most search engines, and none of the features you'll need to
make money.

2) Low Cost Web Hosting. Often unreliable, bare essentials,
little or no real technical support, lacking in features, not
really for a serious online business.

3) The Right Choice. Lots of storage space, super fast servers,
real people to speak with in case of problems, all the
features necessary to make big bucks. (your own cgi-bin for
interactive features, autoresponders, form mail, secure server,
etc.)

If you are serious about your online business success, the
choice is obvious. Why not use a web hosting service that
allows you to take full advantage of the Internet's
capabilities. You will most likely, not be able to compete and
will be losing big money as a result. Here are the essential
features you should be looking for in a quality web hosting
package:

1) Fast Servers - Quality hardware and redundant OC3 or T3
connections. How fast your web pages load is directly
proportional to your income. Don't let anyone tell you a
server can be too fast.

2) Domain Name Support & Registration Services - Your web host
must allow the use of your own domain name. They should offer
free registration and work closely with Internic to get things
done fast.

3) No Bandwidth, No Access, or Hit Charges - There is
absolutely no reason to use a web host that charges for
bandwidth, access, or hit fees. Unless you have an adult web
site. The best hosting services offer unlimited bandwidth with
standard packages.

4) Unlimited CGI Access (FTP/Telenet) - You will need CGI
scripts at some time or another. Make sure that you have your
own cgi-bin and the ability to upload any scripts you want.
Never use a web host that limits you to the their scripts only.

5) Unlimited Technical Support - A good web host should have
live humans to speak with on the phone. Insist on free,
unlimited technical support via both email and telephone.
You'll be glad you did.

6) Control Panel or Web Based Administration - Most quality
web hosts have some type of interface that allows you to
manage your server via the web. This is not necessary, but
can be very handy for many who don't consider themselves to
be the technical type.

7) Secure Server - If you plan on selling anything directly
from your web site, you'll need secure server capabilities.
The best offer low or no additional setup fees, and a low or
no monthly fee for SSL.

8) Email Services - Your web host should offer full email
services. Including, POP mailboxes, unlimited email aliases,
and a generous supply autoresponders. Do not pay extra for
these features.

9) No Minimum Contract - Don't ever sign a long term
contract. It's not necessary. If something should happen and
you decide to switch hosts, being locked into a long term
contract could be very costly.

10) Money Back Guarantee - A quality web host offers a 30 day
money back guarantee. You should insist on it! It is the sign
of a professional company that will stand behind it's service.

Don't make the common mistake of sacrificing quality and
essential features just to save a couple of dollars. The simple
truth is that using an inferior web host will not save you
money at all. You will inevitably end up paying a lot more due
to down time and lost profits.

Y-to-K Date Change Project Status

Our staff has completed the 18 months of work on time and on
budget.  We have gone through every line of code in every
program in every system.
We have analyzed all databases, all data files, including
backups and historic archives, and modified all data to reflect
the change.

We are proud to report that we have completed the "Y-to-K" date
change mission, and have now implemented all changes to all
programs and all data to reflect your new standards:
Januark, Februark, March, April, Mak, June, Julk, August,
September, October, November, December
As well as: Sundak, Mondak, Tuesdak, Wednesdak, Thursdak,
Fridak, Saturdak

I trust that this is satisfactory, because to be honest, none
of this Y to K problem has made any sense to me.
But I understand it is a global problem, and our team is glad
to help in any way possible.  And what does the year 2000 have
to do with it?
Speaking of which, what do you think we ought to do next year
when the two digit year rolls over from 99 to 00?

We'll await your direction.
