For everybody's info -
Hi All -

Just to update you on Carl's suggestion. I too signed up with ccnow and use
them. Their main limitation for those of us selling on the web is that they require that you are
selling 'tangible' items that you physically ship to the customer. Thus it doesn't apply to sales
of 'services, web access, etc.'

The other important point for right now is that they have stopped taking new
applications until they upgrade their facilities. :-(  .
You can check out their website for more info.
Luckily I signed up a week before they stopped taking applications.

I don't know whether others have mentioned   www.ibill.com, but they seem to be
quite reputable. A lot of people use them and they do process cards for services, internet access,
subscriptions, etc.

Their rate is 15% and there is also a 10% holdback that is kept for 6 months.

Still not bad if you don't want to expend the money for your own merchant
account, especially if you are not selling a lot of product yet.

In my search to create a banner, with little graphics knowledge, I found the
following site: http://www.animationonline.com. There you can interactively
create an animated banner for free (additional features are charged for, but
in my opinion worth it, and then post your banner on a free exchange

because I too had no graphics knowledge.

Subject: About reviewing sites

Dear Bogdan,

I want to thank you for posting my request for a site review. Taking the
time each week to visit sites that request site reviews has given me
more experience in what I want in a web site. I can see what would work
for me, other things that would work for the particular site I am
visiting. Although I often review harshly, it is meant in a non-personal
way, directed at no-one but the site content, or lack of it.

I would certainly encourage others to visit those requesting site
reviews, it will open your eyes, and help you in your endeavors.

Seeing my site through other's eyes certainly opened mine, and I want to
thank them all.

Often the biggest thing lacking in a website is the most important bit
of information that does not appear in a browser window. Of course we
are talking about Meta Tags. I will not go into a spiel about them here,
but I do have something that readers of Adlands Digest will appreciate.

About 2 years ago, when I was a younger webmaster, I found a Meta Tag
Builder Program that I still use today. Meta Tag Builder is a free
program, so it fit my budget then, as it still does now.

I am offering it to the Adlands Digest Audience now. Just point your
browser to http://www.alovelinksplus.com/webmaster/meta_tag.htm and
download it for yourself.

Thanks again Bogdan

From: Chris Leilich <postmaster@businessbug.com>
About "Winning the Affiliate Game": Why you only earn under $10 per sale

This is about the book "Winning the Affiliate Game" by Declan Dunn,
just in case you have not heard of it yet, take a look at
http://www.activemarketplace.com/store/2685

Here is the 'cut through the hype' version: This book is aimed at
affiliates. It is sold via a two-tier affiliate program. You earn
25% for personal sales and 10% for downline sales. The book itself
retails for $97 (printed) or $67 (download).

Now let's apply a little logical thinking here. Where is the cheapest
place to buy a book offered this way? Your own affiliate site!
And just in case you don't get that idea, right after signup, step
3 is to order the book and check your sales report.

Should you buy at this point, you pay $67 (download price) and will
recieve 25% or $17 commission back later. In other words, you have
just bought a hundred dollar book at half price.

I don't need to tell you that 'price highly first, then discount to
close the deal' is a really old selling technique. It works well
everywhere where prices are hard to compare.

Big deal, you say, I just need ($50 divide by $17) 3 more sales to
have the book for free. And sales is precisely what the book
promises.

Except ...

Everyone you recruit will do the same, and therefore you will
never make a second personal sale, ever. All you'll get from now
on will be downline sales worth 10%, that's below $10 or below $7
in money. And there is Declan harping on about how Amazon's
offerings of only $2 a book are ripping you off.
http://www.activemarketplace.com/cgi-bin/store/deliver.cgi?seven-2685

Assuming that everyone buys the cheaper download version, you need
8 sales (i.e. 8 sub-affiliates) before you break even. And given
that there is no third tier in this program, every sub-affiliate
of yours who does not buy a copy for him/herself is worthless to
you, but still free advertising to Declan. He just can't lose.

This is not financial!:) When I am browsing using Netscape Navigator 3,
it doesn't take but a few pages and I start to see
"cache cleaning:removing 237 files" on the bottom of my screen.
I have looked into DOS cache & removed all TMP files - I've removed
Internet Temp Files & regular TEMP files, but I still keep getting the
message. It brings everything to a frozen halt for a long period of
time. It locks me to the page until the cleaning out is finished.
Does anyone have an idea as to where these files might be hiding?
(It does not happen in IE or Communicator - but my mail is in NAV 3
and I don't know how to change mail locations.

Subject: About classified ads

Hello Adland and list subscribers.
In order to promote my site, I have been advised to place classified ads
at as many places as possible. The problem is, when I search for "free
classifieds" the first 100 listings seem to be "free classified sites", i.e.
not places where anyone READS the posted ads but a place where everyone
just post their ad and leave. I except Adland, of course :)
Where can I find a list of "good" classified ad sites?
Also, I am a new subscriber, is it possible to read older newsletters? I
sure could use the tips.

Best regards,
Mris

Hello!

I am a new member to the list.  I am an internet marketer with years of
experience in sales, marketing and promotion.  Feel free to look at my
on-line resume at http://www.inergy.com/Carle/resume.html.

If I can be of service to any of you (short of signing up to your
program), feel free to ask.
I have innumerable tools and tehniques I use to get results.  These are
readily available to anyone who wants to use them.  Best of all, most of
them are free.

I am constantly amazed by the number of valuable services found on the
web which are at no cost to the user.  Much of what I use has been
procured from others, so it is of no consequence to me if others use it.
Besides, maybe you will see my ad and sign up to one of my programs.

Anyone out there have info on promotional tools and website
creation/enhancement?  All replies are encouraged and appreciated.

Thanks for having me as  member.  I hope I can be of some service.

Sincerely,
Cliff Carle

Hello, I would like to make a comment about one
of the sites that reviewed.

I visited this site http://www.hotyellow98.com/stevedoc
out of curiosity after reading the review. I must say I had no clue
of what I was to do once I got to the site. What is this site selling?
What is the point? Where the contact information?  If you are
going to use your frontpage to transfer to another page for
some content, then design it so, that it is a doorway entry page.
I too run when I see hotyellow, geocities and so on.

By the way Bogdon, I love your newsletter. Great stuff.

From: "Robert Lee" <webmaster@alovelinksplus.com>

<snip>
We have put in a lot of effort into our site
<http://www.lookupdelhi.com> .
However, hits are few.
A review of our site will be highly appreciated.
</snip>

This is certainly a site to be proud of.
But you want a critique, not cudos, so here goes.....
You have installed a mass of information on your site, that certainly
has a lot of value, not only to local residents, but for travellers to
your part of the world. Start visiting travel agents web-sites and trade
links with them.
Your site is very compressed, with too much information per page. Break
out of this habit and spread the information that you offer to more
pages, it will increase the download speed of your pages and give you
more pages to submit to search engines, with the appropriate keywords,
of course, don't just copy them from one page to the next. Offer a
NO-Frames version of your site, you may be missing the percentage of
visitors whose browsers do not support frames.
Your standardized navigation on each page is good, but stop underlining
words that do not link to anywhere, its too confusing.....use bold or
another font to display the differences in your headings.
Good luck, your site should certainly be drawing the traffic, just get
them coming back by finding a way to announce updates and changes to
your site such as a newsletter.

NO Secrets just hard work!
By David Kidd

There is no real secret to making money on the Internet.
There are just well-known key factors that must be met in order
for you to achieve online success. If your business doesn't
meet these key factors then it is bound to fail. Without further
ado,

1. PROVIDE VALUE

Let's look at two of the most successful online ventures: Yahoo
and Amazon.com. Why are they so successful? They provide tremendous value
to the Web. That's what they've been doing all along. Your website must
provide free resources, foster a sense of community and show real value to
your visitors. Without useful information and real content, your website
will just be background noise. Provide real value and the revenues will
follow.

2. QUALITY PRESENTATION
Providing content, community, and utility is not enough. It must
be presented well. Quality means fast, clear web design that looks good
and is easy to understand. It should be easy on the eyes, as well as the
brain. Your users will make quick determinations about the quality of your
site. High quality will result in repeat visitors and more traffic. The
word about your awesome site will spread!

3. BE UNIQUE
Your site must be unique. You should own something no one else
has.
In most Internet business opportunities you're nothing but pitching
something you don't even know anything about with a web site that
looks exactly like thousands of others. It's depressing to see people waste
their money promoting some "get rich quick scheme" or advertising the same
programs as everyone else. Not to mention
those ripoff cybermalls. So, if you don't have your own unique
website which fosters the Five C's (content, community, consistency,
capability and commerce) then you're nothing but a cyber-static
salespitch.

4. BUILD YOUR BRAND
Why is Yahoo! valued at 10 times more than Infoseek? It's their
brand name. Yahoo! is now virtually synonymous with the Internet.
Amazon.com has also attained great name recognition. Both companies have formed
a name that people can easily remember and with a comfortable ring to
it. Today the key success factor is not about gaining market share, but
rather gaining "mind share." This means brand recognition. Your name needs
to be catchy and meaningful. Your name needs to express a feeling or
image in the mind of the consumer. For example, the name Yahoo! is exciting
and makes me feel like I've struck gold. The name Amazon.com paints a
picture in my head of a vast and great jungle where anything is possible.

5. E-COMMERCE
Let's face it. E-Commerce is here to stay. According to
Forrester Research, Online retail sales will hit $108 billion by 2003. Your
site must have a fully-functional E-commerce system built into it. It's
expected if you want to actually make sales through the web. Visitors need to
be able to purchase your product or service at any time with just a
click of a button. Your site needs to make shopping a fast, fun and easy
experience. Cater to the impulse buyer and provide a simple yet effective
shopping cart system. How else do you expect to make any money on the Net?

6. FORM AFFILIATIONS
One of Amazon's biggest success factors is their affiliate
program.
Wherever we go there's an Amazon book being sold on a website. It is
so important to form solid partnerships and affiliations. Set up your
own affiliate program and you might just see your profits soar.
Develop joint venture partnerships with those web sites that fit with the
"theme" of your business. Remember, you won't survive very long if you're
trying to do it all by yourself.

7. TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE
No one accomplishes all of the above key factors without
substantial
technical know-how -- or at least ready access to it. It goes without
saying Yahoo! and Amazon.com have many very technically savvy people on
staff. Surely you wouldn't expect to build a substantial online business
without doing the same. Of course, you don't have to be a programmer, but you
must have access to those people who can support you technically.

8. PROMOTE
Advertise! Promote! Tell the world about your site! And I don't
mean spam. I'm talking about a constant, strategic and aggressive
promotion by using opt-in lists, ezine advertising, classified advertising,
search engines, targeted email marketing and other online promotional tools.
Advertise on the radio, newspapers, and television. You have to let everyone
know that you exist and that you mean business. A web site is, in reality,
infinitesimal bits of data buried in a computer. It only means anything if
people
come see your site.

9. PATIENCE
You have to be patient and think long-term. It takes a lot of
hard
work to be successful and it won't happen overnight. Plan ahead.
Focus on your strategy and develop the right moves for the right
time. Take your business step by step and you'll be greatly rewarded.
I see too many people trying to make that fast, quick buck without
putting much work into it. It's just not going to happen that way.

10. INVESTMENT
In order to reach your goals and dreams, you have to invest time
and money. If you're short on finances, then try to gather friends,
family or investors to fund your project. If you think you have a really
great idea then you should approach angel investors and venture capital
firms. According to the Small Business Administration, angel investors pour
as much as $20 billion a year into some 30,000 small companies.
