Dear Bogdan,
I have previously written into the digest with our success story but
thought you may like to know the developments.
This is part 2 of "Our Success Story".Firstly we are probably a little
different to most of you in that we are a "Gift Shop" site, we actually
sell products. This I has been a big challenge for us as we have discovered
that while there is a lot of help out there for MLM and Affiliate sites
there seems to be very little knowledge specifically for sites that sell
products. So we have had to do is take the help/advice and "adjust it" to
suit our own marketing needs, mostly through trial and error.
We have been online for almost 6 months now. Been through a change of
webmasters and site rehashes and tried many and various methods of
advertising.
What we have discovered is that variety & targetting are the key issues for us.
So we use classified ads, newsgroups and targetted lists, some small paid
advertising in appropriately targetted ezines, which have worked very well
for us. So long as we keep the costs to $10 or less we find they are very
worthwhile and usually pay for themselves. We generally pick up a few new
subscribes to our newsletter through them.
We are still working towards search engine positioning and have had some
success with Alta Vista. We trialed GoTo.com paid keywords and while the
hits were great the resulting sales were disappointing and we found did not
cover the cost of our advertising efforts.
Some of our reciperocal links are very worthwhile, some are not, but
through these we have met some new friends:) (And I count that as part of
our success).
The e-bay auctions have been very successful for us and also have led to
new customers.
At the moment we are trying the Real Names 60 day free trial.... I'll have
to let you know how this one goes.....
What has happened for us now is that we were asked to market for another
site, which we are currently doing, but we have also been approached to put
together a package of our services to offer them to other businesses.
This has been a surprise and new direction for us. We have increased the
hits for the site that we are marketing for between 2/3 times. So they are
quite happy with the results.
We haven't made a decision about this offer yet, as we need to decide which
direction we wish to take. Any advice/ thoughts on this would be appreciated:)
Ka kite ano (See you again)
Fiona & Joan :)

NO, this is almost the same as spamming as all you are doing is collecting
email addresses and sending your message to them which is what got Bulk
emailing a bad name in the first place. Also think, how do you feel? Do you
get that elated feeling when you see someone supposedly taking an interest
in your ad? Do you then feel let down and deflated when you find it is just
someone sending you their offer? I know I do and I feel that they have
conned me into reading their mailing by saying that they are replying to
mine and instantly delete it. Do you really have any
intention of looking at their offer or is this an empty promise? would you
do business with someone who got your attention with a lie in the first
place? IMHO the answer should be an obvious one NO DON'T DO IT.
Thanks for your time

Dear Andy,
Please let me answer your question below you posted in the Adland Digest
yesterday.
>Hello all!
>I would like to hear of your experiences in using e-mail lists for
>direct marketing purposes. Any tips?
I signed up with an opt-in list about 5 months ago, and to use their
email addresses. They were supposed to provide "fresh names" of people
to send your message to. However, I believe these "safe lists" are sold
to spammers, who will indiscriminately send you tons of unsolicited
emails. There's no real way to track if they're safe. They will put the
standard safe list disclaimer code at the bottom though, so you'll think
it came from a member of the list.
I never made one solid business contact this way. In fact, I've never
had any luck whatsoever with push technology advertising. It seems like
the web is setup pretty good to use pull technology. Search engines are
a perfect example of this. I don't think there's any shortcut to
establishing viable business contacts. I've found Networking and
participating in discussion groups much more powerful, although I'm
still new to discussion groups :-)
Hope this helps.

Subject: Yahoo.com classified ads
Judith mentioned:
When using Yahoo.com classified ads, you might like to think
ahead. It allows you to put in 10 places. Don't squander these 10
places becauseyoudon't get to put them in for at least another
month. Yahoo will ask for azip code so use only one per state and
make sure it is the biggest ...
**************************************************
This isn't exactly correct. You can delete your ads everyday,
some or any of them, and re-submit so that your ad is always on
top. Also the Biz Ops catagory does Not require a zip code so it
goes to every state. The BeCanada powersubmitter also allows
you to *spawn 10* ads at once so you can delete your old ads and
submit new ones everyday in a breeze.
On another note: Do any of you think that the FFA Links Blaster is
a waste of time? I mean it appears to this one that all it does is
post links to pages that noone ever really looks at...you simply get
a ton of ads sent back to you via autoresponder....it doesn't seem
very well thought out to me. The FFA pages seem very
obscure...like who ever goes searching through them?

Subject: Free Advertising of Self-Replicating Sites
Hello all,
I am still brand new to internet advertising and site promotion so pardon me
if I sound stupid. A lot of MLM and other programs give you a personal web
site which looks exactly like the site from which you signed up (a
self-replicating site). I have found this to be a great feature since I am
not an expert at web design. The problem with those types of sites,
however, is that they cannot be changed and this eliminates a lot of free
advertising opportunities. For example, a lot of advertising services
require you to put their link or banner ad on your site in order to display
your ad. This cannot be done because you are not allowed to change anything
about the site. Has anyone figured out how to get around this problem
without busting your wallet to do so? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Matthew Daniel

From: Chris Brown" <chris@pegasusvideo.freeserve.co.uk>
Subject: Ad rotation service
I have recently found a program that rotates your own banners on your own site.
So rather than have 15 banners displayed, you have just one banner -space- and
the ads appear here in turn.
The down side does mean that people will only see one of the items you`re
promoting each time they visit your site, (unless you include the code on
each seperate page), but hey, it makes for a neater page. Alas, the program
won`t accept banner exchange program codes as it has to issue your banners
from its own server. Oh, I almost forgot, the service is free.
http://adrotation.com
I`m always adapting programs, so my recent idea is to use the above server
taking other people`s banner ads for display on my own three web sites. It`s
another free service, and I will give 1000 impressions. (At current rate of
visitors to site, that will take about six months to display!!) Well, I say
its free. The "catch" is people should display one of my banner ads, either
directly on the page, or via their own ad rotator. For details of this
offer, read my report

TOO Far To Turn Back NOW!
By John Ellis
http://www.je-circle-marketing.com/jumpstart.html
Hello Everyone,
How is YOUR
business? Everything fine, I hope?
I am starting to
see something that is occurring
frequently in
many businesses on the net; and I
thought I would
try to share my thoughts and
leave you some
words of encouragement.
The new trend I'm
starting to see, is that many
internet
marketers and businesses are "bailing
out" off the
web, they're giving up on the net.
You attempt to
visit their sites, it's no longer
there, you send
emails and get no responses, they
have given up on
their associates programs, stop
publishing their
ezines, stop networking,
submitting
articles to ezines, unsubscribing to
ezines, stop
marketing etc... This situation
disturbs me
deeply because most of these
individuals were
great friends, associates and
had great
potential to succeed on the internet.
If YOU don't
receive another point from this
article; please
take heed to this advice; NO
matter how hard
things get, NEVER give up. DON'T
QUIT! YOU MUST
retain persistence and
perseverance. I
hate when adversities gets the
best of an
entrepreneur or a netrepreneur.
Have you ever
went to the mall or went downtown
and you were
looking for your favorite store;
only to find out
that it went out of business or
was closed down?
How did you feel about this?
This just does
something to me. It's like part of
me was taken. I
guess it's because I'm a
entrepreneur and
a netrepreneur as well and my
passion is to
help individuals and their
businesses
achieve the success you deserve;
because I even
feel this way if it was one of my
competitors.
On YOUR road to
success there will be many
problems,
obstacles, conflicts and adversities
that will arise,
but you can't give up! You MUST
be persistent and
persevere, adhere to your
course, stay
focussed on your goals and
objectives, and
surround yourself with successful
people. In doing
this success will come.
Persistence is
one of the strongest
characteristics
an individual can possess. I have
a very good
friend who is very successful, she
wasn't always.
She was one of those people who
had a hard time
getting through school, she
failed many
classes. Even now she will openly
admit that she
wasn't the smartest student, but
she possessed the
greatest characteristic,
persistence. Even
though she had failed classes,
she NEVER gave up
or just dropped out of school;
she continued and
graduated and then went to
college. Because
of her persistence she was the
only one in her
family to receive a high school
diploma and the
only one to go to college. One
year after
graduating from college, she was
making $35,000
and year (was good then because
she was singled).
I talked to her recently and
she told me she
just received a promotion; so
that means she's
making more money.
This person
inspires and has inspired me because
of her
persistence. Now when problems arise in my
business, family
life, marriage or any other
aspect of my life
that may cause me to feel
discouraged or
feel like giving up; I immediately
think of her and
her unwillingness to quit. I am
also reminded of
the results of her struggles,
how she became
better.
Start to view
your adversities with a positive
attitude and
allow them to bring out the best in
you. I'm not
saying when something comes up,
ignore it. No
address the problem, but with a
different
attitude. Success or perfection can
only be attained
from your persistence to go
through your
adversities and sufferings. It's
like gold when
it's refined by fire. The more
intense the heat;
the purer the gold will become.
(Adversities +
Persistence = SUCCESS)
Recently I was
reading in an ezine, a individual
said that he has
been on the web for 3 months
now; he has
submitted URL to search engines,
placed ads on
classified sites etc..., but he
complained the he
wasn't seeing any results from
his marketing
efforts. Three months, WOW! Maybe
he thought he did
everything that could be done
and expected
traffic to just run him over? Or
maybe he was
feeling discouraged, and was
thinking about
quiting also? Maybe he was looking
for someone to
tell him to give up, the net is a
big
"hype", or your wasting your time?
I don't know what
he wanted, but I remember when
just starting on
the net, I didn't start making
money or
attracting a constant flow of visitors
to my sites for
about 8 or 9 months. Now because
of my persistence
and my perseverance and after
ducating
myself, consulting with other successful
netrepreneurs; I
can say with conviction, that YOU
CAN make money on
the net. This is why I feel
obligated to
assist others in achieving your
success from the
web. When I see these
businesses that
have given up on the web, I
feel as if I
failed to do my job; because I know
it CAN be done!
I'm doing it everyday!
I always say,
"Success won't come over night. It
requires hard
work and persistence." Yeah, you
might even make
many mistakes or mess up
everything on the
way, but don't worry because we
all have and we
will make many more mistakes
before we're
done. It's said that a good man will
fall 7 times, but
he will rise again. He remains
persistent. Don't
YOU give up! NEVER quit!
"Quitters
NEVER win, WINNERS NEVER quit!"
