Greetings All

Welcome  (122)  new subscribers who joined list since last mailing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had enough posts for another issue and they will be included in
coming issues.  Be patient.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was contacted by this company which offers affiliate software.
Since we had questions before on this list how to run affiliate
program not having appropriate resources and skills,  this
solution might be the answer. I don't know the product but
I would be interested to here and  publish it in Adland digest
if somebody can try it out. There is number of people  who
could start affiliate programs if they would know how to handle
it technically.
Please see this site for details.
http://www.SuccessInMind.com and look for the 'My Affiliate Program 2000tm'.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since issue of double-spacing in Adland Digest  read  through Eudora popped up
again I would like to ask those who use this software and don't have this problem
either contact directly Elizabeth K. Scott <loanlist@loanlist.com>   and try to help her to
change settings or mail solution to the list if this is something obvious.
I would like very much to solve it but don't know where is the problem.
Need some feedback.
If you think,  you have an interesting success story to tell, please send
it to digest as usual and indicate as such.
At the end of 1999  I will create web page and will invite everybody
to vote for the "Success Story Of The Year"
Best voted story will receive one FREE year of advertising
in the form of  small button at the bottom of each Adland page.
From: John Vance
Subject: Online Marketing Techniques
Hello everyone;
                        i really thought it was kind of cool seeing my
information printed in the last posting - gives me inspiration to write
more.
                        Anyway, i really liked the guy that wrote about
how he pulled himself up out of his incapacitation and continued making
things happen with his online business.  Keep up the good work there,
Joseph.
                        I will also reiterate that i would like very
much to know specific FREE AD sites that are not worth going to at all
or that are basically a waste of time.  Since i haven't started doing
that myself - i believe from now on i will start writing down all of the
FREE AD sites that are like not functioning or a waste of time.
                       i also mentioned that i was interested in knowing
names of e-zines that accept FREE ADS - even if it is only one free ad
just for subscribing.  i have also come across some very good ezine
directories that people might want to go and check out if you want to
locate  the ezines that offer free ads for subscribing.  A couple of
them have pretty high circulation.   Here are a couple of the ezine
directory addresses that might help folks here - if mentioning them is
not appropriate here and they are edited out of this post, please e-mail
me for the info and i will get their addresses to you.
http://www.foxcities.com/directory/lifestylespub.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?10535
http://www.choosenetworking.com/ezine-directory.htm
http://www.alacarim.com/ezine-book/
                       i have been on the internet now for about six
years and have only in the past year become more aggressive in pursuing
success with internet marketing.
                       i operate a website as a human rights activist
right now and have decided that i might be able to raise money through
this medium to help in my human rights work.   i would also say at this
time that i will give out my human rights or business site only via
email - special request.  So, if you would like to check out my human
rights or business website - you must send me a special request for that
information via my email address at aleien@jps.net
                      i have never communicated in this manner before so
bear with me.  i will say that as far as my business goes, i have
received two orders for my bumperstickers
on my human rights site - $20 for two sales on an affiliate site i have
- which i won't get until it accumulates a total of $100.   i have
invested $30 in two sites that i feel have been helpful in promoting my
ads and i am now focusing on a MAJOR site now to see where it goes. So,
it hasn't been productive for me, yet - but i have a lot of time tied up
functioning as an activist - so it has not been a real big effort to
become any "netrepreneur" therefore, don't become discouraged - there is
simply too much "out there" to not succeed IF you work at it - and - i
have this suspicion , you really do have to "WORK" at it.
                     i do believe that you have to be careful and not
get spread too thin.  i keep seeing these offers to have all of these
affiliate sites and all of these YOUR OWN FREE AD SITES and umpteen
autoresponders, etc and etc and etc.   All i can say is that i have
enough trouble now just dealing with all of the e-mail i get without
getting too complicated by having this going on here and that going on
there and that over there and this over here and here and there and
everywhere.  Know what i mean, anybody?
Anyway, i would say to pick yourself out a couple of what you feel are
potentially positive and honest online businesses and focus on promoting
them - it seems it just doesn't happen overnight - so plan on
persistence - consistence - and resistance (by resistance meaning to
resist the bombardment and temptation of all the many offers in your
email that will probably do nothing more than waste your time - learn
how to use your delete key)
                      i know - i know - i have been babbling - but i
just want to put something out here that might help others - and the
SPAM thing - try other approaches like the ezines and newsletters and
banners and opt-in lists and exchange programs.  Something i am learning
more about myself everyday.
                      Anyway, i won't be able to blurt out stuff like
this every day but i will try to contribute something i hope is useful
now and then.  Please feel free to elaborate on what i have stated if
any of it seems relevant to you.   Thank all of you for letting me vent.
ps: And thank you fo providing this forum....keep it up! :O)
Sincerely,
john vance,
Hi Bogdan,
Great digest I learn alot from this list and the members are great for
answering questions. Thanks to everyone.
I wanted to respond to Franks questoins about not being able to find his
links on the FFA pages.
They were probably good at one time for there weren`t very many of them.
But now they have sprouted everywhere. The owners of these site use them to
promote their businesses by using autoresponders. When you add your link
then you get their ads. Also with all the atuosubmit programs out there
your link probably doesn`t stay any longer than a few minutes or maybe a
few hours.
That is why when you go to check your link you can`t find it.
Subject: Falsely Accused (Spam issue)
In Digest #97, 'Resident Alien Troublemaker' writes:
>I gotta disagree with this analogy. If someone sends me
>unsolicited mail, they are opening themselves up for the
>same......<snip>.. It's not the same as stealing...
>(I do hate the whiners who don't know how to use the delete
>button, shift and control keys to mass delete.)
>I do think they should all have an unsubscribe by replying
>'remove' in the subject line...
Hello "Pred" & Adland Subscribers;
Pred, I think you must have misunderstood the analogy.
I didn't say that spamming is stealing.  I said that two wrongs
don't make a right. Stealing because you were stolen from doesn't
make stealing 'ok'.  Spamming because you were spammed doesn't
make spamming 'ok', either. If spamming is 'okay', why are ISP's
shutting people down for it?  Why are there laws agains it?
If someone spams you, are they 'opening themselves up for the
same'? Maybe, but does it matter? I don't spam, so I don't
look for 'acceptable' times or situations to spam.
The question we ALL need to ask is: Are we online to play
spam wars or to do business? Is the risk of getting shut
down for spamming worth it?  What is a reputation worth?
In addition, many people don't have "unlimited" access.
Should they have to 'pay' to download spam?
People have made false accusations of spam, often subscribing
& forgetting where they subscribed. If the person 'accused' has
an 'anti-spam' reputation, many people will spring to their
defense.  This can make the difference between getting shut
down or staying online. What is that assurance worth?
I have taken an ethical stance against spam and I stand by it.
Dale asked for 'feedback'. I just gave my opinion. Does that make
me a 'whiner'?  Personally, I think people make a subconscious
parallel assumption regarding name-calling and professionalism.
Then again, that's just my opinion, right? ;)
I know how to use my delete key. I also know how use filters.
I do both. Your comment about "remove" addresses is very
innocent for someone doing business online. Many professional
spammers use remove addresses to build new lists of addresses
that they know will reach a flesh and blood person and aren't
a 'dead' address. Those lists are worth a LOT of money to
professional spammers. Filters work much better & they're safer.
Incidentally, I went to your website to see if I could
find a 'name' other than "pred". I noticed that none of
your testimonials have signatures, email addresses or
urls listed and the only 'contact' names I could find were
Mikey & Shaggy.  Would you be Mikey or Shaggy?  It's
nice to know who one is talking to, you know?
Note to Bogdan:
I usually try to keep my posts brief, but felt that this
one deserved the "whole dollar", not just my "two cents".
I'd really hate to see someone new to the net follow the
'bounce back' advice and getting shut down for spamming.
Sincerely,
Linda Caroll
G'day Bogdan,
I would like to address these comments to
Teresa <TGrabs6462@aol.com> who wrote:
>One last question....Honesty or dishonesty?  I have always been a
>truth about my opportunities.  I see ads that say you can make 5,000 your
Teresa,
I'm going to refer you to a very informative report on
just this subject with more suggestions than you could
shake a stick at. But first some initial comments...
First and foremost suggetion ... honesty.  Everyone who
starts out earns zero at first.  Everyone has to start
making their first sale(s). But if for no other reason
than a good sleep, be honest. And every honest person
like you has the same dilemma.
You are doing the right thing by not making untrue claims.
In any event, relatively few people actually ask you in the
first instance how much you are actually earning. Don't
mention anything like this, unless it is fact, or you know
something is real. No BS! The essential thing is to maintain
your reputation and credibility.. especially for later on
when your name starts to get recognised around the place.
Your reputation is a very precious thing online.  You must be
honest even when it hurts. You don't have to be a saint.
Just be wise about it.  It really doesn't become much of an
issue unless you make it one in some way.  Be honest about
your product or whatever it is, don't overhype it up, be
factual and learn up on all the good ways to promote things.
There are big mobs of ways of doing this honestly and
highly effectively.  Without lying.
Your prospects will usually make up their own minds on the
info you give them.... not by how much money your earning.
Don't rely on a prospect's greed to make a sale.  They are
not the long term people you want to be associated with.
Prospects who are gold to you are those who THINK and
ask questions.  They will be eventual winners themselves
no matter how inexperienced they are to start with.
If they start off by asking how much money they can make,
they are either dreamers or comparing opportunities on
money making claims.  Both are poor foundations for
planning a success online.  Be helpful but wary of them.
Until they prove otherwise.
Coax and harvest your prospects. There's a number of ways
to do that and honesty takes a big lead in establishing
a good online working relationship with them.  People who
trust you, will buy from (or join) you.
I would like to recommend this report which I have had
published before and has been well received. It's fairly
long but covers this issue very well.  It's aimed directly
at new internet marketers.
It's called 'Dealing With Your Prospects'.
You can get it from autoresponder at:
mailto:dwp@GetResponse.com
I also have a list of other articles covering a variety
of subjects, each with a brief description, and all
aimed at new internet marketers, on autoresponder at:
mailto:loa@GetResponse.com
Response to Teresa <TGrabs6462@aol.com>
Subject: Website Review
First off I would like to introduce myself as I have never posted
to here before. I have been reading this forum for quite some time
now and thought it would be nice to express an opinion or two.
I am not a self proclaimed internet Guru but think that people
might be interested in my opinion from time to time.
This response is directed to Teresa in regards to her request for
a review of her website.
Response to Teresa <TGrabs6462@aol.com>
Subject: Website Review
snip <>
>I noticed that you review websites.  Do you allow for private
>(mine) to be reviewed?  I have put it together myself and am
>very proud of that.  It is far from being great but I can't do
>all the things I would like to.  I can't get animation to work
>and other problems.  I like brutal honesty but so far have only
>you paid someone to create a killer website for you.  If you
>could just look at it and give some suggestions I would greatly
>appreciate it.  The URL is: http://tgrabs.freeservers.com.
snip<>
This is my opinion and I am not sure if it is shared by others
so take all opinions that you get and look through them and take
out what you don't need and use what works for you.
I noticed a few things and I feel I must comment on them.
The first thing I did when your site loaded was look around for
my sunglasses. That background is far to bright and will drive
people away like there is no tomorrow. There are more reasons
to use a design company than being able to say look how much
I spent on my site. I am not saying "for $$$ I can make you a
great website". You already know that most design firms can do
that.
The second thing I noticed is there is no passion in your site.
You are one of I don't know how many sites that sell nothing but
somebody else's product. Affiliate sites are so common that if you
want to be one you need, no you must, stand out from all the
others. Have you ever sat up late at night when you can't sleep
and watched the old infomercial? What thoughts went through your
mind? I can tell you that when I was looking at your site I asked
myself would I actually come here on purpose. The answer was no.
My advice if you really want to make money, be it on the internet
or elsewhere is to find something that stirs your blood, something
that is a passion to you and do it. Selling other peoples programs
has a history of making money but in the final analysis you have
to ask for who? Look at your bank account and if possible, though
I doubt it, look at the owner of the affiliate programs bank
account. This should make the answer pretty obvious. Some people,
though not all, would have you think that in selling their product
you will be on the road to riches, the fact is someone is and it
is usually them because they have you and how many others selling
for them.
Lets say, hypothetically, that there was an item that sold for
$69.00 and you make $7.00 for selling it. If you do the math who
is making the money here? You sell 100 items, they make $6200.00,
you make $70.00. Seem like that's a path to making money?
Finally there is more to doing business on-line than creating
a website and sitting back and watching the money roll in. There
is the marketing, the daily tweaking of each program that you have.
Do you know which ads work for you and which ads you are working
for?
It sounds to me that you have a lot of the right ideas, you work
hard, you tend to your business daily (10 to 12 hours). I think
you might need to look at what you do in those 10 to 12 hours and
refocus your efforts. If you can actually make a statement such as
you did in your post...  "It is far from being great but I can't
do all the things I would like to.  I can't get animation to work
and other problems.".... then I think you need to do some more
research and rethink what you want to do on the internet to make
the income you are after. If you built a car and told me that it's
not perfect, it doesn't quite start every time and it might not
always get you to where you want to go but I will sell it to you
do you think that people will really want to buy it?
Do some more research, there are literally thousands of sites
on-line that can help you build a better website. But in the end
it is all your choice. I hope this was fair enough and that you
are able to see things in a different perspective.
I wish you all the luck in your on-line ventures.
Sincerely,
Peter G. Browne
Hi Jon:
Responding to your post in Adlands. Looked at your site and here are my 2
cents:)
The site opened a litle slow, maybe doing away with frames would help since
you only have one item on it.
Some of the banners have text overlapping and doesn't look professional. A
few misspelled words, like hear!, and grammar. These things all add up to
detracting from the professional image you want.
I think that there is too much scrolling. Most surfers don't. So put links
on the homepage instead of having alot on it.
Otherwise, good job!
Dan Farrell
  expression he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and
  pour it into the river."
  With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the
  world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."
  And then finally, he said, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world,I'd
  take it and pour it into the river." Sermon complete, he then sat down.
The song leader stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, "For our
  closing song, let us sing Hymn #365: 'Shall We Gather at the River'."
