A complex, delicate structure makes up the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. These nerves are susceptible to various types of injuries ranging from trauma to neurodegenerative diseases that cause progressive deterioration: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis and multiple system atrophy if one hurts themselves anywhere. Because of the complexity of the brain and spinal cord, little spontaneous regeneration, repair or healing occurs in the body.
