Editor's Comments
Barry Scott -Digest

Anywhere you can place an ad is great for you as a business, however it is up to you to find what works for each market. Too many times I have heard "I tried ads on a particular site but they don't work". What is more likely being said is "I put a few ads up but never received any contacts". You cannot expect a successful ad with out having a few unsuccessful attempts.
Remember to track each ads performance! Your viewed ads will always fluctuate in their performance and the easiest way to track them is to open up an Excel spread sheet, copy the entire contents of your ad into a cell. In the cells beside it you can have categories for where you have it advertised and what its performance level is for each site it is advertised on. Track the ads weekly to see what is working where and what is not.
You can keep an unlimited number of ads this way and never delete old ads, as they can be recycled again in the future. This would apply to ads that had short but sweet success, in these cases they may just be ads that have a short shelf life but are still effective over a short period of time but can probably be reused with the same success a few months later.
The point is ads come in all shapes and sizes and so does their performance, if you utilize the peak performance for each ad you should see a jump in sales.
As always and feedback or questions are always welcome, just click on my name below
Sincerely, Barry Scott Editor

Forum Etiquette - The Right Way to Use Forums
By Donald Saunders
There are literally hundreds of online forums these days and they can be extremely useful for anybody who runs an Internet business, providing you with the opportunity to make your name in your particular field and to attract visitors to your website. However, there are a few rules which are common to all forums and which you must follow if your are to succeed. 1. Do keep to the topic of the forum. Forums are designed as a meeting ground for like minded people and will normally cover a single topic or perhaps a small group of related topics. There is nothing which will upset members faster than posting content which is off topic.
2. Do include all of the necessary information in your posts. Whether you are asking or answering a question make things easy for forum members but including all of the necessary information in your posts. There is nothing worse that incomplete posts which then get dragged out by members having to ask for further details or for clarification.
3. Do be nice. It is a simple fact of life that forums attract people whose sole purpose in life seems to be to try to upset as many people as they can as quickly as they can. Do not react to such people when they enter into a discussion with you and deliberately try to provoke a reaction from you. No matter what comments are thrown at you be nice and polite to everybody and, if necessary, simply ignore rude posters rather than getting drawn into an argument with them.

4. Do not quote previous
messages. Most forums use
software which allows you to
quote previous messages when
adding a post to a thread but
you should not do so unless it
is absolutely necessary to make
your point. People are perfectly
capable of following a thread
and adding in quotes simply
makes the thread unnecessarily
long and cluttered. 5. Do
not spam a forum. If you are
going to participate in a forum
then your objective should be to
gain recognition and establish
yourself as an expert in your
field by bringing real value to
the forum. It should not be to
simply advertise your product or
service. It is generally
possible to advertise your
product or service through your
forum signature block and you
can also promote your product or
service through your posts as
long as you do so subtly and
only where it is appropriate to
do so.
Participating in forums can
be a very good way to make
contact with your target
audience and find out exactly
what your customers are looking
for. However, it is vitally
important that you follow the
rules of a forum and make a
genuine contribution to the
discussion if you are to get a
good return on your investment
as a forum participant.

Absolutely Essential eBusiness Building Principles
By Tom Klos
Does starting an eBusiness appeal to you? Or are you struggling with an existing eBusiness? For most entrepreneurs, the opportunity of running and operating a business from anywhere with an Internet connection is too enticing to pass up. The excitement, however, soon deflates as the hard work of making an eBusiness successful becomes reality. Here are the top 10 absolutely essential principles to make your eBusiness a success: 1. Find a need and address it
2. Leverage existing services - YouTube, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
3. Use what you know and love - this will help you become an authority in the area and help you persevere in hard times.
4. Use offline marketing - advertise in newspapers, use business cards and print materials, etc.
5. Be patient
6. Choose a domain name wisely - dot com is best. The shorter and easy to remember and spell the better.
7. Content is key - write clear Web copy that is not cold and impersonal.
8. Have a call to action - make it easy for visitors to buy and contact you.
9. Build trust and confidence - show your address and telephone number. Use testimonials.
10. Build a professional website - it doesn't need to be a complex website. In fact, simple designs that are clean with easy-to-use navigation and that make good use of white space and color are best.
There is no magic formula. Nothing replaces hard work but hard work must be well directed and spent. The aforementioned 10 principles will help you get a solid footing on starting and building your eBusiness.

Common Technical Questions
Why do I not get the contact information of visitors to my
ads? I get an email telling me they visited but all it has
is an IP address is there a way to get the contact
information?
One way to think about this, what if you are surfing the
internet, would you expect that every time you visit a
site your contact information would be made available to
the site you just visited? Of course not. Responses to
your advertisement are email messages we send to you
when a visitor to our site clicks on the heading of your
ad.
When this happens, our visitor is redirected to your
site. At the same time, a message is being sent to you
(if you selected this option) to notify you that a user
has visited your site. This option helps you to analyze
the effectiveness of your advertising. Those messages
act like simple hit counters for your ad when you have
no other sophisticated tools to track your responses.
In some cases when the user who clicked on your ad is
our registered Adland Pro user, your confirmation email
will contain a link to contact this person. The most
effective way to capture the visitors contact
information is to offer a free catalog, e-document, e-zine
or some form of free download that would be of interest
to the visitor. You would need their email address to
send them the freebie and you would also have the email
for your follow up.
If you have any questions
regarding email
notifications or if we can help in anyway please
contact us.
