Subject: SkyBiz

Well, here I go again.

Al, I am sorry your problems with Sky Biz. To date I have had very few.
Upline is great and Tech support has always been there for me. Though I
figured out early that if I wanted an answer quick, I needed to call them
direct. But they've always come through for me. I love the product and
Building sites with SkyBiz could not be easier.
I have had very few problems and the ones I have had have been handled by
Tech support or have taken care of themselves.

As far as upline is concerned. If your direct upline is not responding, go
farther up. There are lots of folks who will be glad to help you with
sponsoring and your questions. But you have to ask. They won't build your
business for you but they will build your business with you.

I guess the point is some people bend the rules or push to hard. I am a very
easy to talk to marketer of SkyBiz. I don't push. I very rarely mention 3
Websites when I talk to a prospect. After they sign up I will go over the
advantages of 3 sites, but it's always up to them. My Wife and I have 4 sites
between us, but unless you're really sure of yourself, or have a need, I
wouldn't suggest it. If you start with SkyBiz just get one site. If it really
starts to go, you can always buy more. But that's just my way of doing things.

And things are looking up for all in SkyBiz. New builders coming on, updated
educational software, new products coming later in the year and a new way of
helping work the business with Corporate support is being developed.

No Company is perfect and I won't pretend SkyBiz is. But for my money, it's
still one of the best values on the Web. After all I'm not pushing pills or
marketing books, or the latest get rich quick craze, I'm marketing education
and a 35 meg site with builders and the freedom to do with it what you want.
Plus a nice little business that's thrown in for free. What the heck, for
$100 per year, what more do you want?  Plus new builders coming soon and no
price increase!

John

===========C o n t i n u i n g D i s c u s s i o n (3.1)=============
From:Jim McPherson
Subject:Debt Payment Club

First of all, keep up the great work through this wonderful e-zine.  I look
forward to receiving it in my mail!

In response to the query of the Debt Payment Club, I joined over a year ago
when they called themselves the Debt Management Club (before I had access to
the internet), sent out literally hundreds upon hundreds of faxes,
invitations, etc. to my network of friends, family and contacts.

Shortly after I signed up (and sent them my hard earned money) I noticed
that they changed their name from the Debt Management Club to the Debt
Payment Club.

I kept calling them to find the status of my "sign-ups" and was constantly
advised that I had "no one" in my organization.

I became very suspicious of this as several of the people I had referred to
them claimed to have "joined" (aka "forked over their hard-earned money").
The ONLY response I received was from the person who referred me, and his
response was that the "Club" had re-organized under the new name for "legal"
reasons and that any sign-ups I had under the "old name" were no longer
active.

I guess my first "red flag" should have been that they did not offer any
kind of a "money-back guarantee"!

The second "red flag" should have been when I sent the product they shipped
me (to keep it legal) to Galbraith Labs in Knoxville, TN to have it analyzed
for purity, potency and particle size.

The assay came back and I was dumbfounded!  Needless to say, I would NEVER,
EVER, EVER consider putting that stuff in my body!  I immediately contacted
those who had "signed up" under me (and who had received product) to told
them to IMMEDIATELY wash the stuff down their drains.

After many phone calls and written complaints (Registered / Return Receipt
Requested Postal Mail having been returned as "unclaimed") with absolutely
no resolution to my queries, I washed my hands of the entire deal,
apologized to my friends, family and associates, licked my wounds, and put
the Debt Payment / Management Club behind me.

I had not seen any promotion of this organization for quite some time until
I started getting blasted with ads via e-mail.  I was kind enough to drop
everyone a letter relaying my experiences and invited EVERY SINGLE one of
these prospectors to reply if they had any experiences contrary to my own.
NOT ONE SINGLE RESPONSE!  Hmmmmmmm...  Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

So I did the ultimate... I had someone contact DPC / DMC and express an
interest in signing up with them using my old "Extension" number as the
referrer.

Guess what, DPC had absolutely no qualms about that!

I could fight this thing until I am blue in the face (or fingers), but I
have simply put it all behind me and moved onto much more profitable
ventures with a much more solid and reputable company which has long-ago
provided me with far more income than was needed to "pay off my debts" (with
LOTS of extra income to spare), which had been in business since 1936 (no
"fly-by-night" operation here), which did not cost me one red cent to join
and which is always there to respond to my inquiries, comments, suggestions
at any time.

So my suggestion to the DPC is this:  fully investigate this "opportunity"
(maybe they have had a "change of heart" - yes that is cherubic music you
hear playing in the background :-)) before you plunk down a hefty amount of
change (a couple of hundred bucks) for something with questionable
stability, service, products, support and for which you might regret down
the road.

Blessings of happiness, health, peacefulness and prosperity,
Jim McPherson

From:Marion Stearns
Subject:Does The Internet Cause Blindness?

Hi, Bogdan and Adlanders,

Re: Ray's " Does The Internet Cause Blindness?" really rang a bell with
me. I don't think the internet causes blindness, per say. It is a
general pipe dreaming effect most people experience that inflicts the
misery. The allure of quick cash grabbing is the culprit. Dishonesty in
advertising is the true reason people get themselves into these flakey
programs. I have never lost a dime yet so I know it is possible to find
good biz opps. I do consider myself a newbie so I understand the
nightmares associated with these pie in the sky ideas of "Instant
Wealth." Honesty in advertising could do wonders for the decent people
who are searching for a good, reliable, viable business
offers. It is almost impossible for the new person to distinguish truth
from fantasy in most ads they read. I, myself, have been drawn to
explore information from ads that "seem" to be
trustworthy, only to be disillusioned with some
illusive explanation of the biz opp or offering.  My best opinion on
internet blindness is to ask for opinions from others who may have had
experience with any given program. NEVER rely on advertising alone.
Deception abounds in e-advertising so one must walk with a determined
caution.  The internet doesn't cause blindness nor does greed as
suggested in Ray's commentary. It is my firm belief that deceptive
advertising causes most of the heartache we are subjected to in our
internet travels. Truth in advertising could be the answer to all of
these sucked-me-in complaints.
Thank you for the opportunity to express my opinion on the matter.

===========C o n t i n u i n g D i s c u s s i o n (5.1)=============
From:Edward "Mister Ed" Mayo
Subject:Good Web Host

What defines a good host?

There are too many variables to nail down a one size fits all solution.
I would like to offer some guidelines to consider.

But first let me tell about me so to establish at least a little
credibility.  I used to work for the second "place" to  ever join what
is now called the internet / www.  I have been doing this for a very
long time ... in internet years ... lol.  I owned a very large ISP in
Denver Colorado and now I do hosting on a large scale.  So I know a
little to get by when it comes to this subject ... but I don't profess
to be all knowing.

Here is what I have seen:

1.  Free site hosting is for people who are not serious about being in
an online business.  It does benefit a person to try out their idea and
see if a web site is something they'd like to do.  This way they are not
investing  in something that may not be worth while to them.  But
remember, free sites come with a price of their own: very slow access
time, slow site management (takes all day to create a decent page),
annoying banners that steal or distract your visitors, and a lot of
visitors that view the site as low end or not as a serious net business
cause they don't have "real" hosting.  It basically ends up being a
confidence issue in some respects.

2. Free Site creation tools are very lacking and will make you appear
... well I won't say it.  You will look like everyone else or worse.
Take the time to learn how to design your site.  Html is very easy and
is very user friendly in most respects.   Sure it has limitations due to
being and independent process language, but it can be enjoyable if you
like learning new things. Site creation tools will never substitute for
doing it yourself or hiring an inexpensive pro to do it.  There are also
free templates available all over the net that pros have created, so try
them as well.  Also remember not every one uses Microsoft Exploder as
their web browser.

3. NT is not a requirement for a hosting platform if you use the Windows
operating system.  In fact NT based servers tend to be less reliable and
have more security loop holes to penetrate.  Unix or Linux can be
intimidating, but they are actually not that bad.  Infact most people
just use a standard FTP program to upload their files.  Nothing to be
afraid of there.  Most hosting companies that use Linux or Unix will be
happy to help you thru the process if you are unsure.  I would prefer to
help someone than install the NT platforms and open up my server farms
to more problems.

4.  24/7 tech support is not necessary unless you are awake all the
time.  The only time I have seen the need for 24/7 tech support is if
you are using an NT based solution, or you like studying how to do your
web creation at 2 am.  Most servers have so many fail safes that it
would take a nuclear accident or an act of God to take you offline.  For
example, we use redundant power supplies, Raid technologies (which means
3 hard drives would have to fail with in an hour's time for the server
to become useless), redundant UPS units, a backup generator, spare parts
on hand, redundant routers, and more.  If  a machine or connection goes
down, an alarm goes off and two techs are paged that can immediately
respond.  Now all this was built in, but has never had to been used.
Most 24/7 support has been found to be just a security blanket and has
proven useless in most cases when called upon.  So don't put a lot of
faith into 24/7 support.

5.  Use a host that uses IP virtual hosting rather than domain name
virtual hosting.  Two reasons: one, some browsers don't recognize domain
name based hosting and you will get more page loading errors.  And
second, it is more secure.  If someone is able to crack thru another
domain that is hosted on the server (domain name based hosting) ... your
site and everyone else's is in jeopardy.  IP virtual hosting helps to
limit the hacker to that domain until he is caught.  It's not fool proof
but it is better.

6.  The lower the price the more they have to sell to make money.
Bandwidth is like gold ... $300 for hosting is going to get you more
than 7.95.  The more they have to sell, the slower your site will become
when visitors try to access your site.

7.  Stay away from hosting that allows banner exchanges, chat rooms or
adult content.  This will eat up server resources and cause your site's
performance to suffer.

There are many more things to consider, but these tend to be the most
common issues that I have seen.  If you are unsure about your hosting
solutions, just buy me lunch and I'd be happy to help you out  ;)

From:Penny Osbourne
Subject:Viva Rebates

Hi - I really enjoy the Adland Digest and look
forward to each issue. I would like to defend myself
concerning remarks made by Mr. Neil R. Kemp
in Issue #230 concerning my post in issue #226.

#1 Mr. Kemp said:
<quote>When it was first formed as VISA
Rebates, the idea was to create the world's largest
community of Visa Card users. It was thought that
they could just go ahead and advertise them, and
work out deals with Visa later.</quote>

Really Mr. Kemp - If that's the gospel then Visa  or
Viva Rebates is in real big trouble. To believe that
a person or group of persons would jump head first
into a business without any research stretches the
limit of my imagination. Surely they must had, "at
the very least" been aware of the regulations for
the business enterprise which they were
undertaking.

#2 - Mr Kemp said
<quote>Visa are still their largest supporter and
supplier.</quote>

Mr Kemp! did you not read my post at all, my post
included a message directly from "Visa" not "Viva"
but Visa. Here is an excerpt from that
message directly related to your quote above. If
you wish I will email you a copy with header
attached.

<excerpt>
According to Visa International's Risk
Management personnel, Vivarebates.com
(formerly known as Visarebates.com) is not
affiliated with Visa International or Visa U.S.A .,
nor are any of its programs related to Visa in any
way.  Therefore we cannot vouch for its legitimacy.
Visa would like to remind consumers that all  "Visa
cards are issued only through financial institutions
that are licensed by Visa to use the VISA trade
marks"</excerpt>

# 3 - Mr Kemp said: <quote>
Isn't it funny how some people choose not to read
these comments when it suits them? They
completely ignore them, as if they never
existed, just to jump on the bandwagon and say
their piece in print.</quote>

Mr. Kemp really!

#4 -  Mr Kemp said:
<quote>  And the interest rates Penny talks about -
we are told, again clearly, that the country's APR
does apply only if you use your card and fail to pay
it off in any month (plus a 25-day grace period), or
if you are in debit at the year end.</quote>

Mr Kemp if you are going to quote me please use
some words from my post. If you can find mention
of interest rates in my post I will give you (3) free
dinners and I will eat crow.

# 5 - Mr Kemp said:
<quote>I suggest that those who wish to 'have a
go' at Viva, go into the Web site and read it
properly, and FULLY, before doing so. </quote>

Mr. Kemp don't you think that would be somewhat
akin to asking the fox to count the chickens?

In conclusion I would like to say that I did sign up
with Visa Rebates but when I was informed about
the name change and the possible legal  liability of
using the "Visa name" I took a long hard look.

In Mr. Kemps defence I point out the fact of him
saying - "But one thing puzzles me - if no-one
ever pays a penny, how can they be conning us?"
But then some people may have spent funds on an
advertising budget, to promote the VivaRebate
program.

Thank You for the opportunity to defend myself on
this issue.

Kindest Regards,
Penny Osbourne

I can understand your concern, but what readers
send in is what's on their mind at the time.

Multilevel marketing is a hot topic on the internet
right now and I don't see what's wrong with any
subject running it's course.

There are many topics in the newsletter and that
just happens to be a recent one.

The only way to eliminate the coverage is for Bogdan

than letting any subject of interest to readers run it's

Melanie you are absolutely right. I've only received about 5 publications so far
and was beginning to think that SFI was an established topic in this digest. I'm
really quite new to the internet (6 months) and I'm hoping to learn a lot from
other peoples discussions but of more general issues and topics. MLM's are real
businesses and like any other business enterprises the success people have with
them is a reflection of their efforts. What I'd like to see is a discussion on
how people who are having success in their different MLM's explain what they are
doing to accomplish their success. This would make the banter more enjoyable and
useful. Maybe we don't see this because there is too much competition for
memberships and people jealously guard their secrets. Or perhaps everything a
person needs to know should be found in the upline support structure and those
people willing to make the effort can find everything they need. Lazy people
simply will never be successful.

Subject:Verging on unsubscribing

I have to take exception to Melanie Kozik's posting about the changes in Adland
and MLM.  She seems to paint MLM in general with the same brush as Going
Platinum et al in that an MLM company is not a real business.

I have enjoyed the discussion of late that has evolved around several MLM
companies.  There have been some great comments from readers that hopefully will
encourage people to do their "homework" before joining any program.

Regarding MLM, she infers that MLM is not a real business.  That's true to a
point as MLM is just one of many product/service distribution channels used by
companies to move product/services to the ultimate consumer.  Many Fortune 500
companies use MLM as
one of the channels to move their products to consumers. Companies like
Citicorp, Conseco, Coca-Cola, Sprint, MCI, Nike, Avon use MLM to distribute
products and services.

I think many MLMers and MLM companies mistakenly use the term "MLM industry."
If the product is selling an opportunity, then MLM industry applies.  Otherwise,
the company is in whatever industry their main product lies.  For example, Amway
is in the Home
and Personal Products industry competing against companies like Procter and
Gamble, Alberto-Culver,  Johnson & Johnson and others.

Hey yall -
In volume #231, Melanie offered comments on MLM's that I have to agree with. I'm
sure SOME people SOMEwhere are making money with MLM but most of what
I read seems to say that alot of people are getting ripped off, or at least feel
they are.
I personally am not interested since I am old enough to remember the hoopla in
the
late 60's over 'pyramid schemes' and this is what MLM seems to be.
At my site, www.heyfish-head.com I have posted about a half dozen times that MLM
sites will not be included in my directory, but still, I get a couple submitted
almost
everyday. Are all these people not aware that they are MLM sites, or do they
think
I am kidding about NO MLM's?
I would like to know if Melanie and I are alone in the idea that with hard work,
networking online and offline, and offering a legitimate product or service is
the
REAL way to make money on the Internet.

I'm writing this because, like Melanie, I think the digest has
gone downhill from when I started reading it over two years ago.
It used to be filled with subscribers who had something useful to
offer other subscribers (i.e., site checks, useful sites -- read
that content rich sites with no hype).

Now, too much discussion is based on how to make money quickly on
the Internet.  People need a reality check.  There is no easy way
to make money on the Internet.  Face it, all our sites are
sitting in a cul-de-sac on the Info highway and it takes work

To help subscribers on this list, the following is offered:

http://www.agoodread.com/NoHypeFreeEBook.exe

As the name implies, it has over 60 articles of useful articles
with no hype.  Just information which will helps people make a
better web site and also market their site.  The link just
downloads the free ebook.

Why did I go to the trouble of building 60 HTML pages, compiling,
etc. to create this free ebook because I was tired of all the so
called free ebooks which were nothing but ads.  We are also on
the Internet to help other people.  I have based my site at
http://www.agoodread.com on this concept.

True I have a product I sell on it but I know it is one that
helps people who have little or no money to spend on marketing
and advertising their site.  Also on my site are free articles,
free ebooks and link pages to free software and other useful
sites.  Why?  Because to be successful, you must first try to
help the other person be successful.

My point is -- MLM will not make you very much money because,
just like in real life, when you are working for someone else
(and MLMs are just based on this concept), they make the profits
and you don't.  YOU must have a product or a service to sell.

Face it, who are you going to work harder for -- yourself or
someone in your upline?  The thing is -- take stock of what you
have a passion for and create a web site around it.  You can bet
there are people on the Internet who share your passion and will
want what YOU have to sell.

I have only been reading Adland for a few months and for what it's
worth, here are my thoughts.  I think Adland is one of the best and
one reason is the free exchange of ideas that take place.  Even
though I am involved in an MLM, I am turned off by all the SFI etc,
but when I see the subject and I don't like it, I skip it.  If it
comes to the point of the majority of Adland being dedicated to that
type of information, I probably will look elsewhere.  Keep up the
good work, Bogdan!

anyone. It was my impression upon subscribing that this was to be of some
help to people and not cut them down. I was move to email only by the

For her to out right say "Here's some truth-If you were not successful

become one" Is  wrong. Some wealth people started from nothing.
This statement only discourage others. I hope she is more compassionate in

I will keep subscribing for the time being. I hope you pick you emails
on a more positive note.

Steve-O,

I promote my eBooks via my website. I offer them in HTML openable in a
browser or RTF openable in a word processor. The eBooks Amazon.com sells are
only available openable in Microsoft Reader. That prevents the buyer from
copying or printing the eBook. It can only be read in a computer.

Thus I wouldn't advise offering your music as an eBook openable only in such
software. As the performer needs a paper copy. So I suggest you offer your
eBook via a website you have control over. And then offer it in a format the
buyer can print.

Right now I E-mail my eBooks till such time as the pagemaker software and
server will handle the whole thing, including credit cards.

Sincerely,
Pauline Wendy Phillips

Subject:Problems with Duplicator.com

I recently had an unpleasant experience with theDuplicator.com and I
would be interested to learn whether any of your readers have any comments about
this program.
The problems began when I checked on a pay for clicks advertising that I
was running and discovered that my theDuplicator website was not working - in
effect I was paying for people to click to a 'this page not available' message.
When I contacted support at theDuplicator.com there was no support
response.  I  continued trying to gain response from technical support,
management support and billing support but I received nothing more than a form
reply that my message had been received and would soon be answered.  After 2
weeks and no communication I advised theDuplicator.com that I was canceling my
membership - requested a refund per their 30-day guarantee - and advised them
not to make any further charges to my credit card.  No reply
theDuplicator.com has not responded to me in any form.  They have not
canceled my membership and they have made another charge to my credit card
account (I have filed a complaint with the bank and those charges are now being
disputed).
My experience leads me to believe that theDuplicator.com is a fraud and
the owner Tom Wood dishonest.
       Any comments?

Hi
I really appreciate this newsletter, it has saved me from a lot of time and
money. I would had lost joining this or that program, Thanks again.
I would also like an update from Max Burton about the subject below or his
Email.
I recently joined a similar program called MN Partners, Inc. but its $100.
plus 2 recruits or, $300. qualified.
I hope its not the same person running both programs because MN Partners is
having difficulties with the banks and has come to a supposedly unwanted
stop. I checked on WHO IS but they have nothing on MN Partners, Inc.
If someone knows anything, please let me know at mcgregorjp@hotmail.com .

Subject:Synergistic Model Amortization

Hello Bogdan and fellow Adlanders,

Does anyone know anything about a company
called Synergistic Model Amortization, part of Seven Ltd.?
Apparently if I pay them $50 and recruit two people to the
scheme or alternatively send them another $100 they are
going to give me a series of loans over the next 24 months
amounting to thousands of dollars which I will never have to
repay !!!
This MUST be a scam, but just in case I
will keep the info on file for a couple of weeks!!

                        Regards all,

Subject:URL Submit Tip

Submitting to Yahoo, Google and other indexes.
The following information which I am about to reveal to you is
common sense but often over-looked, it has given me
substantial traffic over time.

I have discovered that pages with search forms
are being given preference by that particular engine. example;
"Yahoo" - "Google" - "Altavista"
and so-on. This information was realized by having affiliate
search boxes from different engines on my site (still do).

When checking my stats I noticed that a page with
a "Hotbot search form" had a significant more referrals from
"Hotbot"  as opposed to others, or a page with a  "Google
search form" had a significant more referrals from "Google".
This trend held true for other indexes.

Therefore I suggest you try the following:

#1 - When you create your page try and include
a Yahoo or Google search form (box) - even a link   some where
in the page.

#2 - Insert the name of the search(s) example; "AltaVista"
"Google" "Hotbot" even the keyword phrase "search the web with
"insert name here" in your keyword, or description metatag.

When you reflect, it makes perfectly good sense that you will
get preference when you are touting the service of that
particular business. You have nothing to lose by trying these
suggestions - potentially a lot to gain

Subject:Is my domain my own??

Hi Bogdan

The other day I was speaking with a friend who mentioned an article about people
loosing their domain names because they were either similar in name or where the
same except for the suffix (.com, .co.uk, etc).  This worried me so I decided to
look into it a bit.  Here is what I found (well was told).

If you own a domain name, let's say 'mydomain.co.uk' and a company has
registered the name of 'mydomain.com' then they can take your domain name from
you!! They will have to pay for the costs that you paid for the domain name and
that is that!!

I was also told that if a company registers a .COM domain name then they are
entitled to request all other types (.net, .co.uk) to hand them over.  Do you
know if this is true or a load of rubbish???

Why is this worrying me you may ask??? Well it's because I own a web site called
www.freeadvertising.ws and there is a web site called www.freeadvertising.com.
Does this mean the .COM version can just come and take my site away??  I've
spent a lot of time, money and effort building my site and don't want to see it
all go down the drain.

If any of the digest readers can make things more clear for me then I would
appreciate an email at webmaster@freeadvertising.ws

You are marred with popups ,they don`t sell.
Sell your niche not popups. Your download page become a link page which

I can see that you don't link your original url:

But still, geesh. Go to http://www.freeservers.com and get a free website
with a name you choose, and an email address that you can forward to your
yahoo one.
Then go and add some content to your site, not just a page of links.

Review: Peggy, lose the advertising popup on your main page - not only does
it hide your site, sometimes it doesn't even load!! Who's site are you
trying to promote, anyways? And what's with that "recipes" page? Shouldn't
the recipes be in some kind of order, such as you'd find in a cookbook? AND
why am I redirected to another site to see them anyways....... And what's
with those popups? [of course, they could be a hold-over from another site I
visited, geesh! :-( ]
Shouldn't your recipe of the week (day?) be on the front page as a content
model, not just a link to another page that sometimes doesn't load?
You need to do some redesign in a BIG way.
Good luck.

Review: Oliver, you have some good articles and stuff, so you may be able to
make this site work. I'd try to make it a little more friendly, not so
linear, but you do get your point across that you have ways to sell stuff,
since that is what you are doing, selling stuff. Not much in the way of free
information or encouragement for a return visit here, unfortunately. One
question though, have you used any of the programs that you are promoting?
They may help you here.
Good luck!

That's all Bogdan, Thanks.

=====================Joke of the Day   (1)===============

The patrol officer stopped a motorist for a traffic violation.
Standing outside his expensive foreign car, the red-faced driver
frantically waved his hands and jumped up and down.  "I'll have
your job for this!" he shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Sir, you wouldn't want my job," replied the unruffled officer as
he wrote out the citation. "The hours are long, the pay is low,
and you meet some of the nastiest people."
