A Halon fire extinguisher is a type of fire extinguisher that uses a gas called Halon to suppress fires. When discharged, the Halon gas chemically interferes with the combustion process, extinguishing the fire. Halon fire extinguishers are typically found in areas where the use of water or other types of extinguishing agents could cause damage to property or sensitive equipment. However, the use of Halon as a fire suppressant has been largely phased out due to its ozone-depleting properties, and more environmentally friendly alternatives, such as clean agent extinguishers that use gases like FM-200 or Novec 1230, have become more common.
