Omega-3 fatty acids are commonly found in fatty fish, fish oils, flax seeds, chia seeds, flaxseed oil, and walnuts. Fish-derived omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are important for proper fetal development, including neuronal, retinal, and immune function. They also help reduce cardiovascular risk factors such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure, weight management, and cognitive function in those with very mild Alzheimer's disease. ALA also helps mildly decrease the impact of cardiovascular diseases and arrhythmias.
