Ambu bags, also called self-expanding bags or bag-valve-masks (BVMs), are hand-operated devices to deliver positive-pressure ventilation to a person who is not breathing or is breathing inadequately. The device consists of a self-expanding bag, a unidirectional valve, and a mask. On squeezing the bag, air or oxygen is delivered through the mask into the patient’s lungs, which helps breathing during situations of emergencies like cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.
